Good afternoon from Minnesota! Right before we landed, the flight crew announced that it was three degrees in Minneapolis. I am not in Florida anymore, that’s for sure!
And speaking of chilly temperatures, I missed our very first snow in Charlotte! I am so bummed! Ryan said Sadie has been having a ball running around outside and he sent me this picture of our sweet lil’ lady in the snow.
I hope there’s still snow on the ground when I arrive back home late tomorrow night!
Today’s Travels
My alarm went off at 5 a.m. and I scrambled around the condo my family is renting on Sanibel Island and packed up a few last-minute items before it was time to head out the door. My mom was sweet enough to wake up super early to take me to the Ft. Myers airport and I made it to my gate with plenty of time to spare before my 7 a.m. flight.
The breakfast options in Terminal C were rather limited and since the line at Great American Bagel was ridiculously long and I wasn’t feeling overly patient, I ended up selecting a grab-and-go chicken salad sandwich from one of the little shops.
It wasn’t your typical breakfast, but it did the trick. I also packed a banana and some rosemary almonds in my carry-on to tide me over during the three hour flight.
Since I gained an hour thanks to central time, I landed at 10 a.m. and made my way to baggage claim where I met up with a friendly driver who took me to the hotel I am calling home tonight. I checked in and got situated before deciding room service sounded like a great lunch option since I wanted to have some time to work from my computer before the day’s activities begin at 1 p.m. (I also may or may not have wasted time browsing the TOMS sale on Zulily while I waited for room service to arrive… I bought a pair of the light blue canvas TOMS for $29 and hope they’ll be a comfy, neutral springtime shoe!)
I called the hotel restaurant and was able to order off the breakfast menu since it was before 11 a.m.
Chicken salad sandwich for breakfast and an omelet for lunch. A little bit of a typical meal reversal today, huh?
My ham, vegetable and white cheddar omelet came with a biscuit (I ate half) and fresh fruit, but I couldn’t resist ordering a latte and a side of ricotta beignets as well.
It was quite the satisfying meal.
I’ll be sure to fill you guys in on the details of this trip soon, but for now, I have to head out! Have a great Tuesday!

The omelette you got from room service looks pretty good. I’m definitely a breakfast person, so whenever I go to a restaurant that serves breakfast all day that’s usually what I go for.

Yay Minnesota! We are Cali girls and my daughter is a sophomore at the Univ of Minnesota studying pre vet animal science. She adjusted pretty easily to the cold temps, although she has spent a ton of my $$ purchasing Minnesota proof winter gear. When she returned to school after winter break she went from 70+ to -10 in 5 short hours. Give me Cali any day
Julie says
Ha!! Hope your daughter is loving her major– i know it’s a tough one!!

BRR. I am shivering just reading about three degrees!
And I need to try out these rosemary almonds! Where did you buy yours?
Julie says
Trader Joe’s!
Natalie @ Never Serious Blog says
I was already planning on swinging by my local TJ’s after work this evening so I’ll have to grab some! I love rosemary SO much. When I was a kid, I used to put fresh rosemary in my mac & cheese! Which sounds weird, but is actually delicious!
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job says
Beignets sound amazing right now! I hope you have a great trip and stay warm! I am leaving for CA tomorrow so thankfully I will be able to escape the high of 1 degree that Chicago is supposed to have on Thursday.
Courtney! @ Redefining Athlete says
Those ricotta beignets look delicious! I’ve never had a beignet. I’m saving myself for NOLA!
Cute room! I love Minneapolis, but only from April – October.

We just got our first snow of the season here in Chapel Hill, NC, too! We spent all of last night sledding down a giant hill near my dorm on mattresses 🙂

Ricotta beignets? Yum! Brrrr! I can’t imagine 3 degrees. It’s only a high of mid-40s in Alabama today, and I’m freezing!
Allison Nimlos says
Oh, I live here! Can’t wait to hear about all that you do in town, maybe I will get some ideas. I’ve only live in MPLS for a year now. I wish I could meet you but I know you’re busy. Hope you’re keeping warm!

Those beignets look amazing! We have been hit with single digit weather here in New Jersey. It some parts of the state yesterday it was in the negative degree range. (Would love a trip to Florida right about now). And today we were hit with 3-5″ of snow (had to drive to work in that mess). Stay warm out in Minnesota.
Somer says
Enjoy MinneSNOWta. It’s hard to believe since I’m living in the Caribbean now, but I really do miss it there! Depending on your schedule and the weather try to get out to some of the infamous lakes (Calhoun and Cedar are my favorites!) – they’re incredible even in the winter!
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday says
Your breakfasty-y lunch looks delicious – love those beignets! Chicago’s supposed to get some single-digit high temperatures over the next couple days, so I feel your pain. Stay warm and have fun!!

For some reason I still live here.

I live in Minneapolis – so weird to see several of the bloggers I follow popping up with posts about it! Definitely a chilly day – I got about 90 minutes of cross country skiing in and layered right, but my toes froze! Even colder tomorrow, I hope you enjoy Minneapolis despite the windchill temps (and come back in the summer haha it’s much more pleasant)
Kim says
What are some of the other bloggers you follow? I’m always looking for great new blogs! I LOVE this one, obviously. Thanks!
Laura W says
Hey Kim! I follow wayyyy too many blogs haha, although several are just for the recipes. The ones I read religiously are Hungry Runner Girl, Fannetastic Food, Fitnessista and Run Eat Repeat.
Julie says
Hi Kim!! I read a bunch of blogs but some of my favorites (aside from the ones Laura referenced which I also LOVE) include Honeystuck, Eating Bird Food, Sweet Tooth Sweet Life, The Lean Green Bean, Blonde Ponytail, Life in Leggings, Run Pretty, Katy Widrick, Carrots ‘n’ Cake, Healthy Tipping Point, Lunchbox Diaries… and MORE!! I hope this helps!

Ohmigosh! As I was reading you talk about the scary cold MN temps, and saw the pic of Sadie pop up, I really thought for a split second that you brought her with you. I don’t think there are enough adorable pajamas to keep her warm in that. Brr…
And…that hotel breakfast?! Uh, yes please! That looks so delicious! 🙂

Brrr, Minneapolis sounds cold!!! I’m shivering just thinking about it. I was there last fall when it was a downright balmy 17 degrees.
Deanna says
Welcome to the tundra. -9 this morning was no joke. And yes, the food options in Terminal C at RSW needs serious upgrading. I make the trip to RSW from MSP a few times a year for family.
Erin says
Welcome to Minnesota 😉 We don’t have much snow this year, but you are welcomed by the cold! I live about 2 hours north of Mpls. It was 14 BELOW when I left for work this morning!!! Bundle up! Come back to MN in the summer, its warmer 🙂
Kelsie says
I read your blog regularly, and I live in Minneapolis! I hope you’re enjoying our typical weather 🙂 It’s actually been pretty mild this year with not too much snow- fingers crossed it stays that way! I hope you make it to some of our fun attractions, like the Mall of America.
Kelsey says
You have to fill me in on where you stayed in Minneapolis! It looks magnificent, and perfect for a weekend away from Duluth. Isn’t it weird the options that are available in airports? I ended up snacking my way through the day until I was home last Monday – nothing at the airport sounded good for a meal!
