BIG discovery today, guys.
BIG.
Did you know that Starbucks makes a mocha coconut Frappuccino?
Judging by the responses I got to my Tweet about this discovery earlier today, yes you do.
Well, it’s a brand new flavor to me and I am basically in love.
I ordered the light version of the Frappuccino late this afternoon and it tasted like a Caramel Delight Girl Scout cookie… or a Samoa, as some of you say.
Quick poll: Are they Caramel Delights or Samoas to you? Caramel Delights all the way, bay-bay!
After working through the afternoon at Starbucks, I headed downtown for a meeting about an upcoming Orlando tech conference. I felt a little out of my element with all the talk about aps and start up technology businesses, but we’ll see where it goes!
On my way out of the meeting I stopped by Mochi for some fro yo for real reason other than me just wanting the creamy dessert.
If you spend $5 at Mochi downtown you’re supposed to receive validation for parking in the garage. Well, apparently that validation only applies if you’re parked in the garage for under two hours, so I ended up paying $5 for frozen yogurt and paying $16 (YES, SIXTEEN DOLLARS!) for parking.
What a punch in the gut!
I got back to the hotel room in Ocala a little after 8:30 p.m. and am now off to slip into my pajamas and grab something quick to eat for dinner. I missed the hotel buffet (oh darn!), so I’m left to scrounge up a meal from the stuff we have in our fridge. I think that means dinner will be Greek yogurt with banana slices and a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter. That actually sounds delicious right now.
See ya in the morning for Blog Talk Tuesdays!
SAMOAS all the way!
I definitely say Samoas! I think I’m going to have to try that frap tomorrow!! 🙂
Samoas! Have you ever tried the Samoas ice cream? It is soo good!
I LOVE the ice cream too!!
YES! love it!
at least you had the $$! once i thought if i had validation, parking was free..turns out if it was only under 2 hours…i didn’t know so i parked there, ran errands, got my ticket validated only to find out i had to pay about $7. i only had $2 cash on me. they made me write a check. thank god i had my checkbook.
Caramel delights to me, too…. but you can call them whatever you’d like, as long as I get to EAT THEM!
I also LOVE the mocha coconut frapp. Yum-O
Carmel Delights! And they are my favorite Girl Scout Cookie behind the lemon ones!
Guess who is heading to Starbucks tomorrow to try this? 🙂
Hey Julie! I feel kind of silly for never commenting but I’ve been following you for quite some time now and since I pretty much know we have the same tastebuds… you NEED to try the frap with the white chocolate syrup!! one of the workers recommended it to me and it is soooo much better… let me know what you think! 🙂
oh yummm! thanks for the head’s up!
Umm, Samoas! Are they Tagalongs or Peanut Butter Patties? (and the answer better’d be tagalongs!)
ahhh i grew up with pb patties. ah!
I find that so strange! Would a tagalong by any other name taste as delicious? YES!
Mmmmmmm now that I know they taste like SAMOAS (NC shout ot) I’ll have to try one! I’ve been curious but not brave enough yet 🙂 That is my fav Girl Scout cookie ever!
My husband says they are Samoas. . . . I never had Girl Scout cookies growing up (Yes, I was deprived.).
Bummer about paying so much for parking!
Samoas! That’s what they were called when I was a little girl so they’ll always be samoas to me.
Are those little tiny marshmallows I spy? Yogurtland doesn’t have that as a topping and I’d totally use it to make a s’mores yogurt!
When it comes to fro yo, you are the topping queen!!
No way…$16 for parking??? That’s nuts. That froyo looks delish, by the way. Now I’m totally craving some!
I’ve never had the Mocha Coconut Frap because it sounded funny but if you say it tastes like Caramel Delights (That’s what they’ll always be to me) then I’m going for it next time! Those are my all time fav cookie. Have you tried the special edition girl scout cookie ice cream? Carmel delight in Vanilla ice cream! YOW! SO GOOD!
Caramel DeLites is what I grew up with, but Samoas have dark chocolate so I’m torn!
$16 for parking is quite the punch in the gut. I think it may be a location thing because when I lived in S. Carolina we called them caramel delights but when I moved to Indiana we called them samoas. Samoa is the name printed on the box so I thought maybe I had just been saying it wrong the whole time. Enjoy your breakfast for dinner! 🙂
I LOVE the Mocha Coconut Frapp blended Light! I do get the toasted coconut on top, but not the chocolate drizzle. I love the “chewy” bits 😛
$16 for parking, yikes!
Really!? Awesome!
Bigger news: Did you know there’s a recipe for a mocha coconut frap in your vitamix recipe book?! Now, I live on a Starbucks-less island ( =( ) so I can’t compare it to the real thing, but the vitamix version is pretty tasty!
oh that’s great news!! i’ll check it out when we bring it out of storage.
Samoas all the way!
Your fro yo looks diviiiiiiiiiiine!
Samoas all the way 🙂 That fro yo looks unreallll
1. Samoas. I don’t even think I’ve ever heard them called the other.
2. That parking fee is outrageous! I would have died. But at least I would have died a happy woman post fro-yo.
3. I now look forward to our froyo date on Thursday even more. Although we may have to spend it fighting the name of Samoas. Be forewarned. 😉
4. Bring a mocha coconut frapp for me and I’ll let the Samoa thing slide. Because I’m like you and had no clue that flavor existed and it would quickly become my fave!
Definitely Samoas. They were called Samoas when I sold them as a girl scout and thats what Edys ice cream calls them as wel. MUST be legit 😉
Hmmm… I’m originally from Wisconsin, and I’m pretty sure we always called them Samoas. I didn’t hear that Caramel Delight thing until my (now EX) boyfriend (who is from Kansas) called them that. Neither of us knew what the other was talking about!
I also get a skinny mocha latte and have them add a pump of coconut….just as good and it’s warm!!!
At least you guys have been saving money on all that hotel breakfast food. Should make that $16 hurt a little less. I mean, not much less. But a little less. 🙂
That frapp looks awesome!!! So does the froyo! 😀
Julie — no idea if you will actually make it down to comment #90 but…I saw these a few weeks ago and when I saw your post on this, I had to send it over in case you hadn’t seen it. Check out this homemade version of the frap: http://www.howsweeteats.com/2011/07/homemade-mocha-coconut-iced-coffees/
i need to make this!!!
OMG they came out with the Mocha Coconut Frappuccino here in Canada this summer (I didn’t realize it was new in the US too?)…. it is hands down my absolute FAVOURITE thing to get at Starbucks now! 😛 …… geeze.. now I want one! 😉
Girl, where have you been?! 😉
I had that Mocha Coconut Frappuccino when it first came out and I fell in love with it! It is SO good. It really does taste like a Samoa! I thought the same exact thing when I tried it! 🙂
Self-serve frozen yogurt places are dangerous for me. I always end up spending so much money!
I don’t know if you saw, but Jess @ How Sweet It Is re-made the fraps AND she made Mocha Coconut Frappuccino cookies!

Think you might LOVE them 😀
Oh, and I say Samoas- never heard anyone call them caramel delights…do they say that on the box too?
They were Caramel Delights when I sold them. I’ve seen both down here though. Maybe because I live in Middlesex county and work in Monmouth *shrugs* South Jersey is a whole nuther universe
A friend of ours brought over Edy’s GS Caramel Delights/Samoa ice cream a couple months ago. OMG it was heaven.
I’m a “Samoas” girl all the way – I hate that they changed the names though! I still usually call them by whatever they were when I was a kid 🙂
I neeeeeed that frap in my life! I had a skinny latte made with coconut syrup the other day and it was to die for! If you’ve never tried coconut milk in your smoothies, you should definitely check it out. It’s pretty low-cal (~80/cup), but tastes super creamy and delish. I love it!
I’m totally a Samoas girl! I had actually never head it called a Caramel Delight before this post haha. Gotta love marketing name changes.
I’ve always called them Samoas, but it would probably be pretty dangerous for me to try this drink considering my husband and I ordered 17 boxes of Girl Scouts for the two of us this year. Oops. Good thing I’m training for a half marathon!!
Totally nerdy, but we had a big debate about this at work a few years ago and I actually know why there is a discrepancy in the names between Girl Scout Cookies! Essentially, there are two different commercial vendors who supply them for distribution, Little Brownie Bakers and ABC Bakers. There is no standardization of the names, so whichever vendor made the cookies determines the name — LBB makes Samoas; ABC makes Caramel deLites! (the vendor is determined by your Council).
There have been complaints about a difference in taste between the two bakeries and the “same” cookies before.
(http://www.ohio.com/news/top-stories/girl-scout-cookie-fans-are-tasting-a-difference-1.84956). Because I work with a bunch of neurotic scientists who need to test every theory, we got a box of Samoas and a box of Caramel deLites and did notice that there was a higher caramel:coconut ratio with the Samoas, but the cookie was crunchier with the Caramel deLites.
Just thought I’d share some useless Jeopardy-style knowledge taking up space in my brain! 🙂 And definitely listen to the commenter who suggested the Keebler knock-offs…. because LBB is owned by Keebler! 🙂
uhhh yes ive heard of it! it sounds ridiculous…hence me staying away from starbucks otherwise it will become a problem!
my hubby would love this!!! I actually found coconut M&Ms randomly at the grocery store a few weeks ago and he was DYING over them. I am not a coconut fan but he pretty much died and went to heaven over those!
1) I found out about Mocha Coconut Fraps this spring and it’s been a SERIOUS problem!! Little fact, in case you didn’t know, this was a limited time only flavor in 2002.. Starbucks held some kind of poll online and everybody voted to bring this bad boy back!! And I thank them!
2) Carmel Delights!! But they are called both depending on where in MN you live. My BF calls them Samoas. (Same BF that told me about Mocha Coconut btw.) Go figure.
I haven’t had this mocha coconut frap but now I want a box of Samoas!!! Love those! 😀
Ugh you have to pay for parking?? :p Sucks
No I did NOT know this existed! And they will always be Caramel Delights to me… and “Tagalongs” will ALWAYS be Peanut Butter Patties!
Forever and always Samoas! 🙂
And they are sooo tasty!
My wife loves that drink at Starbucks! I’m more of an unsweetened iced tea and iced Americano guy myself (gotta cut down on calories somewhere) but I will admit that it is tasty. If they take it off the menu at the end of the summer, you can still ask them to make it for you, and if there’s someone on staff who knows how they will do so. (They’ll also make the winter drinks in the summer.)
I have never heard of calling Girl Scout cookies anything other than what the Girl Scouts call them. Samoas were always my favorite!
i was a girl scout and our boxes said “caramel delights” for those cookies!
mine too! but if you look at the boxes now, they say both. 😉
Oh how weird! Why would they print different names on the boxes in different areas? I swear it’s a conspiracy to keep everyone in this country talking about the same thing in different ways, to keep us all confused. LOL 😉
I NEED TO TRY THIS.
I may or may not have eaten an entire box of caramel delights (yes. not samoas) in one sitting before with my best friend in middle school. normal?
annddd I did my research a while back because I got sick of people correcting the names of the cookies. it’s a regional difference!
apparently, in the chicago/NJ areas, caramel delights and peanut butter patties (not tagalongs) are where it’s at. (and shortbread cookies. not trefoils.)
Samoas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, must be a Michigan thing 🙂
I always get the light mocha coconut frap.. it’s my favorite! The toasted coconut is so yummy 😀
I almost choked when I saw how much you paid for parking… Horrible!
There must of been something in the air yesterday…I was on the sweet train as well. I was thinking of what to get…and WISH I had seen all the mocha coconut talk on twitter…I got ben & jerrys fro-yo (half baked) and was SADLY disappointed when it was freezer burnt! Didn’t stop me though…I added coconut milk, mixed it up, and devoured 😉
