For my fellow circuit workout fans, the Circuit Workouts page was updated this morning!
I added a small handful of new workouts to the bottom of the page underneath the “NEW Workouts” section.
I like to be overly obvious like that. Hope you enjoy!
Lunch
For some reason my lunchtime seems to be getting earlier and earlier. I normally eat closer to 1 p.m., but by 11:30 a.m., I was ready to eat.
I think I was ready to dig into my midday meal early because I was so excited to eat this salad.
When I bought the watermelon and feta cheese yesterday, I knew this salad was in my future!
I usually make the watermelon and feta cheese salad with arugula rather then spinach, but bags of fresh, baby spinach were buy one, get one free at Publix, so the cheap bag of greens reigned supreme.
On the side I had some fantastic G.H. Cretors all natural kettle corn.
It was sweet and salty and had a delicious buttery flavor. It reminded me of the authentic kettle corn I’ve purchased straight from the kettle at the Downtown Orlando farmer’s market that somehow keeps me going back for handful after handful.
The company sent me the kettle corn and the Chicago Mix (cheddar cheese + caramel popcorn) to try and both were incredible. Ryan and I ate the entire bag of the Chicago Mix in one sitting on Sunday as we hung out on the couch.
Most Popular Baby Names of 2011
Last night when I was blogging on the couch and Ryan was browsing CNN.com, he told me that the most popular baby names from 2011 were released and Noah, the name of our friends’ Dru and Carrie’s baby, made the list!
For some reason silly information like this interests me far too much, so I immediately had him list the top names:
(Source)
Today I noticed a lot of follow up articles on the internet about the release of this information, but the little nugget of information I found most interesting is that the name Jacob has held the number one spot for boy names in the United States for the past 13 years!
Sophia beat out Isabella, the front runner from the past two years, to claim the number one spot for girls.
Where is Julie!?
I’m actually quite fine with my name not being a “top name.” I’ve met a small handful of Julies in my life, but not a ton, and yet everyone knows how to pronounce it and spell it. It has been good to me.
Question of the Afternoon
- From the above list of top names, what are your two favorites?
For a boy my favorite is Ethan. For a baby girl, I like Emma or Ava.

ELIZA says
My name is eliza and a lot of people call me Elijah at work and stuff!
peanutbutterfingers says
ha!! i think elijah wood ruined it for you! you should just yell at them and say, “i am NOT a hobbit.”
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I LOVE the name Sophia! I would absolutely love to have a little girl named Sophia one day or even Sophie. I also like the names Emma and Madison. They are cute too. As for boys, I like Mason, Ethan, and Jacob. It’s nice to see my fiance’s name, Michael make the list 🙂
Julia says
I’m Julia, but I hated my name growing up. All I ever wanted was to be able to get those personalized pencils, pencil cases and the little license plate for my bike with Julia (with an A) on it, but only ever found Julie. So sad! I got over it as I got older and loved that my name was a less common that other names around me.
peanutbutterfingers says
too funny! i feel like i had the opposite problem… finding “julia” and not “julie.” we should’ve swapped stores! 🙂 and people do say “julia” to me sometimes – i must mumble my name or something!
Julia says
The only person who ever got away with calling me Julie was my grandfather 🙂 Now that he is gone, anyone calling me Julie WILL be corrected. It’s just not my name. We totally should have switched stores!
Sam @ The Real Pretty says
I used to say that I was absolutely going to name my daughter Emma whenever I have one, but now that everyone and their momma’s have that name, it totally lost it’s luster for me.
PS- I just read that it is national chocolate chip cookie day. Any plans? 🙂
Rachel says
My friend named her daughter Sophia Emma! I really like Emma for a girl and Jacob and Alexander for a boy! My BF and I actually were just talking about family names and what we like and don’t like.
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
Ethan, Evan, and Aidan are my favorites for boys – I like Abbie and Sophia for girls! 🙂
Kaella says
I love this post!! Especially because we just found out we’re having a little BOY today!!!
We have NO boy names picked yet (We don’t want anything too popular or too “out there!)
Off this list though, I love Nova and Emily.
peanutbutterfingers says
AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! congratulations, kaella!!! this is such exciting news!
Kaella says
Thank you!!! I’m really excited to meet our little man. My husband is already planning out all the sports he’s going to play 😉
Danica says
Sophia and Olivia have been my 2 favourites for a long time, I also saw this on the new this morning and was surprised to see my 2 favs in the top section….for my name i usually get ohhhhhhhhhh like the race car driver! (i sort of do have a heavy foot on the peddle so i guess it works well) 🙂
erica says
i like noah & aiden for the boys and olivia and ava for girls!
Emilie @ Emilie's Enjoyables says
I’m seriously addicted to all flavors and varieties of popcorn, ESPECIALLY kettle corn!
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance says
I love Aiden for a boy but my best friend has claimed that name for years. I don’t think my name has ever been a top name, which I’m okay with too. I do wish people wouldn’t call me Carolyn though!
Courtney says
When I was pregnant my goal was to avoid the “Top Names” list! I think I’ve successfully beat the list for both of my children 🙂 My son is Sullivan and my daughter is Sawyer.
I have to admit, the Sofia was on the top of my list but I just couldn’t do it – so she became Sawyer 🙂
The names fit them so perfectly and I can’t imagine what else I would even call them!
peanutbutterfingers says
those are beautiful names!!
jenny says
Sullivan and Sawyer are two names on my short list !! Crazy!
Lindsay says
My nephew’s name is Sawyer! 🙂
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers says
Jacob, really? I don’t even think I know a Jacob! I like Ethan and Abigail. I’m a sucker for traditional names.
peanutbutterfingers says
i said the same thing last night. i know two jakes but i don’t think i know even one jacob!
Kim Perry says
I thought the same thing! but then I realized that Jacob was the most popular name for the past 13 years, so all of those Jacobs’ are between the ages of 0-13! Maybe your future children will know some of them? Hahaha!
peanutbutterfingers says
haha! yeah, i thought of that afterward, too. and i don’t really know a lot of 10 – 13 year olds. 🙂
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
from the names on the list, i love ava or madison for a girl and mason or ethan for a boy. i swear my name was at the top of the list in the mid to late 80’s to early 90’s because i feel like every time i turn around i meet another ashley! haha.
Krista @ Blonde Aesthetic says
Probably Noah for the boy, and either Ava, Madison or Emma for the girl. I love Austen’s Emma so I am just biased on that one.
Stephanie Y. says
Sophia and Jacob are my favorite. I am biased on Sophia, since that is my newborn daughters name!
Becca says
If I have a boy were are naming him Jacob! It’s my favorite boy name. From the girls list I really like Ava and Olivia. Both are very pretty names.
Lindsay @ FuelMyFamily says
we were going between Cassidy and Chloe for my 2nd baby but saw chloe was on the top 10 list so we went with cassidy. I didn’t want my daughter growing up being called CHloe L her whole life to distinguish herseelf from the 4 other chloes in her classes. Naming kids is hard!
Angie says
Ugh I have beef with this list… the only reason i know some of these names are popular are because of the kardashians and twilight!! and i would love to like emma but it reminds me of “emmit”… LOL I like Ava out of all of them… but again, i believe it became popular because of reese witherspoon’s little girl. ok rant over! 😉
Emily @ I'd Rather Walk says
I have four other Emilys in my class all throughout middle school and high school. Objectively, I like my name, but I don’t love how common it is.
Lisa says
I love Mia and Ava. My name was actually supposed to be Mia, but my parents changed it at the last minute. I swear so many people have my name now, its nutty.
Hayley C @ Running Down the Runway says
I love Aiden for a boy- and Emily for a girl, but spelled “Emalee” I love unique names and different spellings, but definitely nothing too bizarre or out there!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
My little brother’s name is Mason! I love the name William, but I actually don’t like any of the girl names!
Mrs Type A says
For boys I like Jacob and Aiden. I’m planning on using Jacob as a middle name for one of our future kids because it’s a Jewish name and it’s also a family name on my side (last name, oddly enough).
For girls I like Sophia and Ava. Husband has nixed Sophia and I think I actually prefer a name *not* on the list now, because I don’t want my kid to be one of 18 million with the same name in her class. Remember how many Stephanies/Jennifers/Sarahs there were in our day??
jenny says
I’m a JENNY, not a Jennifer, but everyone assumes that my name is Jennifer because of the 1000s that were born in the 80s!
Stephanie @ My Freckled Life says
Aww man! I used to LOVE the name Sophia, but I hate that it’s now made the top of the list. It has been on my list of favorites since I was a little girl, when old fashioned names weren’t back in style! I always swore that I would never name my kid a name that is in the top 10, since my name (Stephanie) was like #5 for the years surrounding my birth and I always had a TON of other Stephanie’s in my classes! What a bummer… looks like I’ll be searching out a new baby name for my totally non-existent child!
Lindsey says
I’m such a name snob, I don’t like any of them! None are bad, but I’m very happy my baby boy’s name, Harry, is #709 on the list! However, it’s #3 in the UK!
Sarah says
From the list
Boy: Daniel (my brother’s name)
Girl: Sophia (my niece’s name)
But I wouldn’t name my kids either. And I guess being 16, it’s a little too early to be thinking about this stuff, but I have girl names picked out for my little ones already! I obviously have WAY too much time on my hands. Here they are:
Julianna Rose
Christina Dawn
Violet Marie
No stealing please 🙂 I should get ’em trademarked or copyrighted or whatever. And to my future girls: you’re welcome!
Ashley says
Jeez my family needs to get more creative. My cousins are Ava and Jacob and back when I was born, Ashley was in the middle of about 10 years in the top 10. Maybe we just inspire the masses?
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Ethan and Emma are my faves from that list, although my all time fave (so far anyway) baby names are Jamie (boy or girl) and Hannah. I’m quite ok with my name not being on the most popular list either. It’s strange actually – I was always the only Angela in my class growing up, but in the past couple of years, I think I’ve met and become friends with 4 others!
Agnes says
I actually had a dream last night I had a baby boy and named him Ethan haha….my husband would disagree with that name but we both love Sienna and Madeline for a girl 🙂
Gen says
Nice! That can give some ideas.
Bethany @ Accidental Intentions says
I like Mason on the boy’s list, but honestly I don’t really like any of those girls names :/ I don’t think I would give any of them to a future daughter of mine.
Bethany rarely cracks the Top 100 for names. When I was little I didn’t like that because it was nearly impossible to find personalized stuff (where as my siblings, who have much more common names, had no trouble). I always had to settle for Beth, which I rarely go by. I like that my name is unique-ish now, though. That way when people say Bethany I know they’re talking to me haha.
Andrea @ Andrea Out Loud! says
I like mason for a boy and madison for a girl! sorta matching haha.
My name is hilarious because i have met quite a few andrea’s actually. Yet most everyone pronounces it wrong it is “Ann-dree-uh” but most commonly gets pronounces as “On-dray-uh” which I have never met any that were pronounces differently than mine! haha
Jana @ Newly Wife Healthy Life says
This is so fun! I always loved reading the top baby names when I was younger. My husband ahd I pretty much already have our future baby names picked out, but I know it could change by the time we actually have a baby on the way! 🙂 My favorites on the lists are William and Alexander for Boys, and Emma and Olivia for girls. I was almost an Emma (named after my great grandma) but my parents picked Jana at the last minute. I really do love my name now, but I wasn’t a fan as a kid! I wanted a name that was easier to pronounce.. 🙂
LizK says
It’s funny that you said that. My husband and I had names “picked out” back when we were dating even. Then I actually got pregnant and there was a real baby connected to those names and we totally changed our minds, haha. I am 29 weeks and we’ve been settled on Collin for awhile but it could change at anytime (especially after he is born).
I have always thought my name (Elizabeth Marie) was a little too “boring”, but as I get older I do think it’s pretty and it fits me. Hmmm, does that make me boring if my name is boring and fits me?
Katie @wishandwhimsy says
Between your breakfast cookie post and this watermelon salad, you Ma’am have me hungry! This looks DEEELISH! (And refreshing, too.)
Alysha @Shesontherun says
For some reason I don’t really care for boy names. Girl’s names are much prettier! I love Sophia and Ava. But I don’t think I’d ever pick a name in the top 10 because they are too many people with those names. I like unique names but not weird ones (like apple – gross!).
Lindsey says
Love Isabella and Eva for girls and for boys Jacob and Noah. Me and my husband have our baby names ready to roll and I am kinda relieved not to see them on that list!
Christa says
Oh gosh. Those names… My husband is a Jacob so I like that for obvious reasons. He refuses to be referred to as Jacob, though, and only goes by Jake. We just had a niece in the family named Emma Lee. Emily is my all time favorite girl’s name but I inherited a sister in law with that name, so it’s out! I’m a Christa and let me tell you, after years and years of “Christina,” “Kristen,” “Christie,” “Kursty,” I just let people call me whatever they want if I know I won’t be seeing them more than that one time.
Michelle (Better with Berries) says
My favorite boy name from the list is Michael – it used to be Aidan, but now I just associate that with Jon and Kate Plus 8. And my favorite girls’ name from the list is probably Olivia.
However, my favorite female name is Michelle 🙂 I swear it’s not just because it’s my name! I just love the way it sounds… which makes me sound very egotistical. But I can’t help it – I love my name!
Kimberly says
This is totally off topic, but did you put any dressing on this salad? I love the combo (especially with argula). I imagine it’s delicious without dressing, but just thought I’d ask! I love any and all salads that are just a few ingredients (so I have less produce that ends up going bad in my fridge :)).
I’ve never really thought of baby names as my husband and I don’t plan on having kids, but I remember desperately trying to get my parents to let me change my name to “Stephanie” when I was growing up. That never happened and I’m perfectly happy with my name now 🙂
hayley w says
My two faves are definitely Olivia and Mason!! Also have to give an honorable mention to Abigail (my dog’s name!)
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
Probably Aidan and Abigail. 🙂
Since I’ve started working in the Child Center at Lifetime Fitness, I have seen SO many interesting, unique names that I had never heard of before. I need to start keeping a list, so that I have some creative ideas for when it comes time to have babies myself! 😉
Emily says
Well I’m partial to the name Emily but that’s a given. I’m pretty sure Emily topped the list for about 10 years only to be knocked off by Emma. I think it’s because the REAL meaning of Emily hasn’t been revealed yet. Someone once told me it stands for Every Minute I Love You. Cute, right?
Brigitt says
I like Aiden and Olivia! I don’t think my name has ever been on one of these lists–especially the way I spell it. I kind of like it that way =)
Stef says
I just found this, and felt you needed it in your life. picky-palate.com/2011/03/10/cookies-and-cream-peanut-butter-midnight-snack/
That salad is very pretty, I wish I weren’t allergic to watermelon!
Caitlin @ This Bride's Joyride says
Wow I am surprised that my favorite boy name (hayden) is no longer on the top of the list! I wonder if Twilight made Jacob more popular.
Funny I have only met a few “Julies” too even though it used to be a popular name in grade school- but one of the Julies I know is my best friend and I swear seems SO similar to you – looks and positive attitude!
Laurel says
Ethan has been my favorite boy name since White Fang and my love affair with Ethan Hawke….If you have a baby boy before me…which unless the Gods curse me will happen, and you name him Ethan just know he will have a friend name Ethan…I will not give that up!!!
Laurel says
And I dont like any of those girls names…..
Alex @ therunwithin says
Oh wow that popcorn is making me drool. That Chicago mix sounds heavenly.
Miriam says
I know a lot of Julie… It’s a very popular french canadian name.
Realy I just looked how many facebook friends I have named Julie and I counted 16! (and almost as much Julien!)
