My mom is leaving early tomorrow morning, so I’m doing my best to soak up every last minute with her. I will actually be heading to Florida toward the end of next week, so I’ll see her again soon, but there’s something special about having her here with me in our new hometown. I just want to see and do everything with her!
Our day today began with a mother/daughter Jazzercise work out! Taking Jazzercise with my mom during her visit here has made me want to get more involved with my local studio. It really is such a fun work out and I always leave in a good mood.
After class, we drove to La Patisserie, a local family-owned bakery and café, for some sweet treats to bring home with us for dessert tonight.
La Patisserie was highly recommended to me by both our realtor and one of my girlfriends, so I have high hopes for the pumpkin spice cupcake I chose for myself! (The fact that it isn’t already gone is some kind of miracle.)
On our way home, we got to chatting in the car and decided to go out for breakfast at a new-to-me restaurant. Sun Up Café is another restaurant I had been meaning to try thanks to a series of recommendations and I’m glad we popped in this morning.
I loved all of the natural lighting and our food was quite tasty!
The huevos rancheros was fabulous!
Once we were done eating, we ran a few errands related to the gallery wall I am hoping to complete today. I bought tons of frames at IKEA last week and have done my best to fill them with photographs, a beautiful picture of Sadie from a talented blog reader and other PicMonkey-made designs.
(Sadie and her tennis ball have supervised the entire process.)
It’s definitely taking longer than I anticipated to get everything together, but I am hopeful we can get everything on the wall in my home office tonight and worry about filling the three remaining empty frames later.
One of our pit stops for the day took us to HomeGoods where we ended up leaving with a new dog bed and blanket for Sadie. As I’ve mentioned before, she’s such a baby about sitting or laying down on hardwood floors, so we got her a new bed and cozy blanket (she’s a burrower!) and she’s already a big fan of both.
Now I’m in serious need of a shower before it’s time to head out to coach my Girls on the Run team! After practice we have plans to go out to dinner for my mom’s last night here and I’m looking forward to a night of good eatin’!
Have a wonderful evening, my friends!
Mommy/daughter days are the best! Those cupcakes…..wouldn’t make it to the car let alone an entire day with me 🙂
I love mother/daughter days! Sadie’s bed looks so comfy! Unfortunately, our dogs prefer our bed…
It sounds like you are having a fantastic time with your mom!! I love trying new restaurants with my mom. I am loving your gallery wall and I’m trying to come up with how I can do that in my itty-bitty apartment! haha 🙂
So fun… loving the looks of that gallery wall!
Love the gallery wall! Your treats look delicious. Enjoy the resst of the day with your mom!
LOVE that picture of Sadie! How is she adjusting to the cooler temps, especially in the morning, that we have had glimpses of here in NC?
I cannot even handle that picture of Sadie- too cute!!
How did you resist those cupcakes? Props for your discipline!
Sadie looks like she’s saying, “But I wanted the red blanket, mom!” Too cute. Home Goods has great pet buys! Good luck with the collage and enjoy your last evening with your mom 🙂
Mums are just the best 🙂 Enjoy your day with her!
So jealous of your mom time! I’m only about an hour away from my mom, but I still don’t see her near as much as I’d like to!
And holy NOM – those cupcakes look divine!
That’s so fun that you got to have a mother/daughter day! Shopping for home things with your mom is the best! I love the gallery wall btw! I have one too and love it! 🙂
That’s an amazing picture of Sadie. She’s so cute!
I know you hear this all the time but I just love all your pictures of Sadie! She reminds me so much of my 2 yo GSP that I had to put down last week, so now I love them even more! <3
I am so sorry to hear this, Amber. I absolutely love German shorthaired pointers (we’ve actually toyed with the idea of getting one) and I have only heard good things about their sweet personalities. I know dogs are little members of our family so I am sending so many big hugs your way. Sadie is sending lots of licks your way, too!
Love the picture of Sadie that is going to be hung on the wall and the pic of her in her new bed. She looks so cozy
The cupcakes look amazing! Let us know how they taste! Have fun at Girls on the Run!
Mother + daughter days / weeks/ years / lifetimes!? are the absolute best. Enjoy!!
PS. Sadie’s bed looks so comfy, even I’d take a snooze in it.
My mom and I said the same thing! It looks like the perfect place for a nap to me! 🙂
How nice! Mother-daughter time is so special. Definitely making me miss my mom a bit but I hope you are having a blast with yours.
I’m so glad you are having such a great visit with your Mom. I’m hoping my mom can come visit soon! And that sweet Sadie is always so precious. God love her.
So glad to hear you’re having such a great time with your mom! Mother/daughter time is the best. Looking forward to seeing the finished product of your gallery wall! I always love the look of them, but I feel a little intimidated doing one by myself.
Sadie is adorable in her new dog bed! My husband is always trying to talk me into getting a dog and Sadie has almost convinced me ☺ Your gallery wall already looks great. Can’t wait to see it finished!
Sadie looks so cozy!
Some of the best days I’ve ever had have been when my Momma has come to visit me in San Francisco from Florida. It’s sooo true that you want to show your Mom everything and do everything. Hope you guys had a great time! 🙂
My Mom lives so far away. I wish she lived closer so we could do more together. She usually spends part of the winter with me in AZ. It’s always nice to have her around for that extended time to make up for the rest of the year.
this reminds me i need to call my mom and schedule a day for the two of us! also, i think you’ve convinced me to try jazzercise.. i have to admit, i was one of those people that thought it was just for old women..
You must be super woman, because I would have eaten that cupcake before I left the bakery! Can’t wait to hear how delicious it is!
Shopping for my dog has to be one of my favorite things. Finding a cute dog bed that will fit his giant self is a whole other complicated story though. Glad to see Sadie is really nestling into her new home! 🙂
Those cupcakes look amazing!!
That picture of Sadie is just too cute!
You are in my hometown now! I live in Mooresville NC, both the restaurants you went to are wonderful! Hope you are enjoying getting to know NC, I think it’s the greatest place on earth!
Oh my goodness La Patisserie is one of the best spots in town! You must go there for breakfast or lunch one day. I recommend the santa fe salad or the french toast!
Oh man those cupcakes look good!
Why do you only take Jazzercise with your mom? If you love it so much why don’t you you take more classes on your own?
OMG those cupcakes look amazing!
Oh, my goodness!!! My Abbey does the same thing! I’ll make the bed in the morning and come back minutes later to a big pile in the middle with a 23lb dog under the center of the mess! Blankets on the couch, bedding, her own blankets or bedding… just a dog shaped bump with a little nose sticking out. So cute!
Those cupcakes look so good!!
I love when my mom is in town! Such a treat, glad you had fun!
Sadie is the cutest dog ever. I love her burrowing skills! My dog tries to burrow but he usually isn’t very successful, unless its a night in our bed, then he’s very successful (and jabs his paws into my back at the same time)…fun, fun stuff! <3 those fur babies!
I’m excited to see your gallery wall, once it’s finished! My husband and I created one above our sofa last year and it took FOREVER! We made sure to mix things up by including a greeting card, a section of a hiking map, a funky postcard, and some personal photos of epic adventures we’ve had. One thing that helped was tracing all of the frames on scrap paper and taping the paper shapes directly to the wall. We left them up for a week, moving them slightly each day, until we were happy with the whole look. We were able to come up with the perfect layout BEFORE attaching any frames to the wall! Good luck 🙂
Sadie is the absolute best!! Her personality is so similar to my dachshund Lucy. Lucy is also very particular about where she sleeps and is a big time burrower!
Just had a wonderful Mother/Daughter WEEKEND that I am so thankful for 🙂
