I love basically any BodyPump class, but when you couple BodyPump with my intense love for LaBouche, you have a real winner.
Today’s BodyPump class was rockin’ and had me feeling the burn. I’m really enjoying the new release. It’s amazing what quality music can do for a workout.
With each BodyPump class I take these days, I can’t help but get a little sad when I remember that the gym we will likely join in Ocala doesn’t offer my beloved ‘Pump. (I did find one gym in the area that offers BodyPump, but they only have it one day of the week at a time that doesn’t really work for me.)
I will really, really miss BodyPump when we move. The class provides me with one heck of a workout. I am trying to think of the lack of BodyPump classes in Ocala as an opportunity to explore new workouts, but I am pretty bummed. I guess I’ll just soak it up while I can!
Walk + Breakfast
Ryan joined me and Sadie on our morning walk around the lake today which was great! It’s nice to have a human to talk to sometimes.
We walked around the lake, taking about odds and ends… including the NBA and NFL. I oddly don’t mind listening to Ryan talk about sports because he knows the facts and tidbits I will find interesting and typically shares only those with me. I like the details about the players’ personal lives, team dynamics, etc. Today we discussed the NBA lockout. Riveting stuff, I’m tellin’ ya.
Once we arrived home, it was time for breakfast.
On the menu for today was two waffles, a dippy egg seasoned with salt and pepper, veggie bacon and a wedge of Babybel cheese.
Today’s breakfast felt like a bit of a treat. I felt like I was eating a weekend breakfast this morning! Something about waffles and dippy eggs scream lazy Sunday morning to me.
And now I should probably shower. Probably.
Question of the Morning
- What group exercise class, cardio or weights machine would you miss the most if it was removed from your gym?
dana says
Maybe you could get certified and teach pump at your gym!! 🙂
Katie says
I would miss BodyPump SO much!! I really like the yoga classes at my gym, too, but you could do those anywhere. BP is a total necessity for me!
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
I heard that Jari Love’s DVDs are very similar to Body Pump. Maybe you can do those at home instead?
Gen says
I would really miss my spin class!!!!!!
I had a dippy egg for breakfast too! My favorite! 😀
Kristen says
I would definitely miss my Wednesday morning boot camp. I just don’t even want to think about it!
Caroline says
I’m currently obsessed with Pure Barre up at school.. but I’m moving home to St Pete in September and they don’t have any type of barre class at all. I’m practically mourning.
Samantha says
You should definitely talk to your new gym about starting a BodyPump class! I worked at a gym all through college and we LOVED it when we got new class suggestions. It’s a good way to spruce up the rotation and bring in new memberships. BodyPump is wildly popular too, so if you give them some background info I’m sure they’d at least seriously consider bringing it to the gym!!
And I would definitely miss spinning.
Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun says
Do the gyms in the area still have weights classes? I find that many (like Group Power in our area) are basically the same thing so maybe you will luck out that way. 🙂
Angela says
3 of my college friends and I became obsessed with Body Pump and during winter break this past year we didn’t know what to do with ourselves when body pump classes stopped until the spring semester. So we used youtube to find videos for each body pump track!! we tried to find all the most recent, but some of the tracks we could not really find. However, it worked amazingly. My friends and I would take my laptop and go into the group exercise room when it wasn’t being used and blare the music and do body pump together!! One day 5 other regulars from the body pump class saw us and joined in! It was really cute, and when the body pump teacher found out she was impressed. if you want the tracks/youtube videos that we used (its not the latest versions) I could email the word document to you with the links. Then you could do body pump on your own at home (if you have or buy the equipment/weights) or at your new gym! then maybe the new gym will take the hint and start up some body pump classes… or you could get body pump certified and become an instructor! haha, just a thought 🙂
Girl in the pink says
I moved and didn’t have a gym for awhile… I missed spin and bodypump the most! I also really missed my crossfit gym, it is the best workout ever!!
Claire @ livingspreethegoodlife.wordpress.com says
Oh my goodness there are soooo many other amazing classes! Like BOSU Bootcamp, spinning, duathlon (spinning and running intervals), pilates, bar method (just started this: it’s killer). I’m sure you’ll find different workouts that you will love. Variety is the spice of life! 🙂
Katie says
Did you check if your gym has Body Pump but just under another name? After reading about Body Pump on so many blogs, I really wanted to take it but the only gym around me that offered it was too far away to join. Turns out the gym I joined has a ‘body pump’ like class, they just don’t call it that to avoid fees and stuff (kinda shady, but hey). You probably already thought of that but just in case 🙂
I think that class is the one I miss the most, and yoga too
Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) says
Oh my gosh, I would miss the bike I think the most! I immediately thought treadmill or spin class, but I could run outside and honestly don’t utilize the spin classes enough… This reminds me, I want to take more spinning! I would love, love, love to take body pump all the time, but we don’t have it at my gym unfortunately.
Rachel @ The Avid Appetite says
Right now I take Zumba and I love it! I would be so sad if it went away.
Katie says
Julie, definitely check out the class schedule at your new gym. My gym does not offer BodyPump, but they do offer classes called FitFlex and Muscle Conditioning (which seem exactly the same to me). They sound a lot like BodyPump – we use barbells, resistance bands, hand weights, etc in a fast-paced class with great music in the background! Maybe your gym offers something similar?
Shanna, Like Banana says
Oddly enough I’d miss treadmills if they were taken away. I feel like I can do anything on those things!
Corey @ Family Fresh Meals says
I would miss pilates the most. A close second… which is pilates based is Xtend Barre. Have you tried it? It’s a mix between ballet and pilates. I would highly recommend it if you have it in your area 🙂
PS… My little girls and I had veggie bacon this morning too! Love that stuff!
Diana says
I would probably die without my yoga classes – my gym costs roughly 3 zillion dollars a month and I attend for the ahhhmazing yoga instructors.
Since reading about BodyPump classes all over the blogosphere, I really want to check one out! I rarely attend group exercise classes of that nature, but everytime I do I always feel like my limbs will fall off/appreciate them – I’m wondering what the specific differences are between Pump classes & other weights workout classes, they sound awesome!
Jillian says
I take a Boot Camp class at my gym out here in California. I absolutely love it, and although I just started going regularly a few months ago, it has really changed my life LOL That sounds so lame, but I truly get so excited for Monday and Wednesdays!!!
Keri :) says
Julie–you have taken so many body pump classes and love an active lifestyle… you should INSTRUCT a body pump class at the gym! 🙂 A lot of women in Gainesville have their own jobs, but teach classes at the gym in their free time! Then, you can make it fit YOUR schedule, yet still get the workout!
Just sayin’! 🙂
Keri :) says
AND include REALLY awesome “totally ’80’s” music!! 😉
Casey says
Ahh I’m sorry Julie! I know how you feel. My gym in Indiana had BodyPump offered multiple times a day, nearly every day–then I moved to California and my gym (and barely any gyms out here) offer it all. I’m going to look at it as an excuse to get into kickboxing maybe? That seems to be big out here. I feel you though. There’s nothing like BodyPump—at least not yet! Maybe something will pop up and surprise us! 🙂
Ali says
Last week I actually did a Yin Yoga class and it was wonderful! I haven’t stretched that much in years and I felt great walking out of there. It definitely wasn’t a workout, but served a different purpose.
Aditi says
You should request it or start teaching it! You would be great!
Tara says
I absolutely LOVE Pilates, and during my freshman year of college we had an amazing instructor that offered an early morning class that fit perfectly into my schedule. After that year, she left to open her own studio and it literally took 3 years for a class to finally fit in my schedule! Anyways, I am now taking pilates again and loving it!
Cait @ Cait hates Cake says
I would really miss Muscle Max. It’s a full body weights class that is as close as my gym has to Body Pump. It’s my favorite class by far.
briana says
The gym I attended in college had body step which I loved and now I dont get to take classes because my gym now makes you pay for the classes 🙁
Jackie says
Our gym has a Body Pump-like class that does lots of reps in time with music so you new gym might have an alternative as well. The one thing I would caution is that at out class, there aren’t set routines. So you won’t be able to go in and have an idea of how hard you will be working each muscle/body part. I have heard that is one benefit of Body Pump if you go regularly.
Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy says
I like Zumba. Although, my gym has been switching up its instructors, and it’s really not as good as it used to be :/.
Allison says
I know the feeling of losing a class you love. At my gym in college we had an amazing body combat class that had me in the best shape of my life. Moving home I can’t seem to find anything that works me as hard. I have heard many people swear by crossfit or kickboxing. You should look into those!
Natalie S. says
I feel ya girl. The university gym doesn’t have BodyPump (and even if they did, I’d have to pay an extra $150/semester for it!!). Luckily the sort-of nearby YMCA has it, and my parents’ YMCA has it, so I’m able to get a ‘Pump sesh in if I’m willing to make the drive. Hope you find a good replacement!
meg says
I do body pump at home a few times a week because I don’t have money to join a gym/my schedule is crazy and I probably wouldn’t be able to make the classes anyways. You can get those step things anywhere (I think I got mine from walmart) and I ordered the weight bar thing online (it is Troy brand but i forget where I got it). And then I ordered a few of the dvd’s from ebay (yes they are from China/Hong Kong and probably illegal). All in all I probably spent about $200 which I don’t think is that bad considering I do it multiple times per week and don’t have to pay for a gym membership.
BIOCHEMISTA says
hey lady! maybe on your free time you’d consider getting Les Mills certified? Or, since I’ve been going to BP for a long time now, I can pretty much do a class on my own when I can’t make one on the schedule
Margo @ peanut butter trees says
I love veggie bacon! I don’t have it often, and I know it does not compare to real bacon at all, but as a vegetarian it brings back those aromas and memories of weekend mornings back when I was little and my mom would cook it, and when I used to eat the real deal 🙂
Leanne (Bride to Mrs.) says
We have a big track at our gym and I can’t imagine not having that option. I like running on the track instead of the treadmill sometimes 🙂
Jenny says
Have you ever thought of leading a body pump class yourself? Sounds like you certainly have the experience and have seen a variety of styles that would make you excellent for the job! I know I personally I like worrying only about my own workouts though, especially in the morning…!
Jen says
I hear ya on the BodyPump! Have you ever considered home workouts? There are some awesome DVDs out that will help you burn those muscles when the ‘Pump isn’t available.
Let me know if you want recommendations – I’m a health and fitness coach and have some DVDs that have transformed my body 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
i have but sadie makes it a little hard to workout at home. i wanna try the jillian michaels workouts though!
Jen says
Jillian’s videos are definitely solid – I had 30 Day Shred on heavy rotation a few years back, which is great for something quick!
Chelsey @ Jam&Run says
I’m big on bootcamp classes, I love that every class is different, each trainer teaches in a unique way, and the workouts are ALWAYS intense. Luckily my gym offers bootcamps every summer and it’s something I look forward to once the weather starts to get warm!
I love kickboxing too, so I’d be crushed if my gym stopped offering it at times convenient for me to attend. It’s always heartbreaking when that happens!
Laura @ Unchartered 20s says
That dippy egg looks extra amazing to me this morning for some reason!
I don’t have anything I would miss but I really really want to try Body Pump! I love total body strength training type classes and think this would be perfect for me, but my gym doesn’t offer it. Maybe one day!
Shayla @ The Good Life says
I would die if there was no spin room/classes in my gym…it’s my #1 fav group exercise class!
Emilia says
I would probably cry if my gym got rid of the cross-trainer/elliptical machine. I realize every gym has one pretty much, but I just think they are so much fun! It’s like dancing.
Mary @ Fervent Foodie says
I’m in love with Body Pump too, so I’m so sad for you to lose it! But, I have found on the days when I can’t make it to body pump, trying out new classes really kicks my butt since you are forced to work out in different ways than your body is used to. So that is a plus!
Jamie aka "Sometimes Healthy" Girl says
mmmmm. dippy eggs. Sounds good right now!
I would DEFINITELY miss kickboxing most. It is my absolute favorite and this kind is only offered at my gym.
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
I would definitely miss body pump!!!
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
The treadmill would be first and foremost. And then probably the elliptical. 🙂 (Boring, I know.)
Sorry if I missed this part… but when are you moving?
peanutbutterfingers says
ryan starts his new job july 25, but our lease is up aug. 1.
Vanessa @ Sweaty in Pink says
I would miss spin class way too much! It’s just not the same when I try to do my own workout on a spin bike.
Jeni Wood @stepping out says
I would miss the pump class. It’s not bodypump but it’s a strength training class. I already miss my regular Tuesday evening yoga. My gym didn’t get rid of it but the instructor (the best they had) moved to San Diego.
Allie @ sweet potato bites says
I love the new body pump release! The music is so upbeat and fun.
I’d miss body pump and spin if they were no longer offered at my gym. Those two are my faves.
Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats says
I love being able to talk to my boyfriend about sports. I know that it is something that is important to him and he listens to me talk about blog stuff so it is only fair! 😉 I would miss Zumba, the treadmill, and dumbbells.
Paula @ Eat: Watch: Run says
I miss spinning! My gym doesn’t offer it – or any classes – cuz it’s so cheap. Not that I would have time for it with my marathon training right now. But after that’s over…watch out! I’m gonna become a spinning fool again.
Lauren says
Dippy eggs are my favorite!
I would probably stop going to my gym if they got rid of my 20/20/20 class. It is a combination of cardio, strength and mat work/abs. It really kicks my butt (I burn over 600 calories in the hour class) and I would never do plyometrics, ever, if I did not take this class which are exercises that have really improved my stamina during runs.
I do feel your pain about losing Body Pump, but hopefully you will find a class that you love just as much!
