The toasted cinnamon (or cinnamon raisin) bagel +melted cheese + jelly combination creates a serious party in my mouth. I just can’t get enough!
Today’s bagelwich was prepared on a toasted cinnamon Alternative Bagel (I buy them at Publix), topped with melted muenster cheese and raspberry jelly.
On the side I included some sugar snap peas for a little green nutrition.
The bagelwich won the MVP of this meal, hands down. Pretty sure peas can never compete with cheese, so it wasn’t really a huge upset. 😉
One upset did occur during this meal…
It ended too soon. And I was sad.
All this MVP talk made me remember a proud(?) moment in my (brief) career as a high school swimmer.
At the end of the swimming season my freshman year, an awards ceremony was held where the coaches presented awards to swimmers to recognize their athletic achievements and improvements throughout the season.
I remember watching all of the top swimmers receive awards and clapping for them as they graciously accepted awards for “Fastest Time in the Freestyle” and the like.
When my name was called, I remember being shocked.
You see, I wasn’t very good. In fact, I was pretty bad. (I switched to diving the following year which was a much better fit.) When my name was called, my mind started racing about what wonderful award I was about to receive from my coaches.
“Julie, we have a special award for you. We would like to present you with the award for the most entertaining member of our swim team.”
I made my parents so proud. 😉
Back to work for a few hours! I wish I was playing outside… It’s gorgeous out today!
P.S. The Fashion page was updated this afternoon!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I love that they gave you that award — to be honest, having people on your team who have a positive attitude really helps the team members (who are really good) to perform at their best — at least that is what I believe!
peanutbutterfingers says
haha i’d like to think that, too. 🙂 also, i LOOOOVE the name of your blog!
Lauren @ Hungry Dancer says
Whenever I see this bagel sandwich in my google reader I know it’s your post even without checking the blog name! 😉
Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin says
hahaha I LOVE that award you got. Great story!
Kaella says
ha ha ha, I love it!! My brother still gives me a hard time for the “Fastest Typer” award I got in high school. Hey…as a journalist, it’s a skill I’m proud of!! 😉
Laura @ prettylittlewords says
I still have yet to try your bagelwich..for some reason I never buy Muenster. But it always looks so gooey and melty in your pictures!
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
I think that Most Entertaining is by far the most prestigious award someone can win- congrats! 😉
Gen says
Awesome award! 😀
That sandwich looks amazing! No wonder you never get tired of it!! hahaha
Carrie says
ahah WOO for most entertaining player!! i got an award in softball for ‘most likely to start a dance party’– its very true, i must say!
oo i would definitely award an MVP to my oats!
Kelly says
Every time I read your posts about bagels with Meunster cheese I think of Ke$ha’s video for ‘Blow’ and chuckle…and of course your posts make me want a bagelwich sooo bad! Haha
Kim says
Awww, I love the swimming award! I swam competitively starting at 5th grade and all through college, I love the water! Your lunch looks delish, I think I need to try it.
Katy @ A Healthy Shot says
Haha I have the same reaction when I finish my bagelwich! There never seems to be enough. I want to try your cheese/jelly bagelwich so bad but I never buy Meunster cheese… maybe it would work with Swiss?
Have a great afternoon!
peanutbutterfingers says
yes, it definitely would! i’ve made it w/ swiss before & it’s great!
Melissa says
I’ve made it with cheddar, too, & it’s tasty!
Katy @ A Healthy Shot says
I have tried cheddar and jelly!! I forgot how ridiculously awesome that is 😉
Alaina says
I love that combination! My favorite is raspberry jam with brie.
What a great award to get! 🙂 When I was in high school, I got the drama award. I was always an understudy or an extra so it was cool to be recognized. I think attitude goes a long way!
Jihane @Sinful Sundays says
Haha! That reminds me of the time in the 7th Grade when I was on the softball team. I SUCKED. I ran slow, dropped the ball, messed plays up, etc. It was just bad, but i DID try. I’m sure my coach noticed my effort because at our awards banquet, I got the last award of the night— “Most Hustle” award. ugh. so embarrassing, lol.
Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries says
I hope that award is hanging somewhere in your house 😉 I swam all through high school (read: as a hobby. I was no good) but my friends and I had so much fun on the team! It seemed like sprints and meets were no big thang 🙂
Andrea says
I recently tried your MVP as an after-work snack, and now you got me hooked as well! Really tasty. My 8-year-old son was loving it too. 🙂
Flea says
Haha – I was also a failed high school swimmer turned diver! Cheers!
peanutbutterfingers says
haha i like your style!
Jess says
I think I just might have to try this amazing bagelwich you speak of so often 🙂
Oh and I’m super jealous you have lovely weather (well, duh you’re in Florida) because here in good old Rochester, NY it is SNOWING. Ugh I need to relocate lol 🙂 Poor Rush is not liking the return of the cold white stuff–he shivers anytime he has to go out in it!
Geraldine says
I think I’d prefer a “most entertaining” award to one for fastest time!!
When I eat bagels I have to eat one side at a time. Kind of like an open bagelwich! If I eat a closed bagelwich I just feel like it’s over all too soon 🙂 And then I make a face like yours.
dana says
You’re so lucky to have nice weather! Here in Baltimore, it’s a chilly 42 with rain and a chance of snow the weekend…blaaaah!
Kate says
Your delicious bagelwich’s inspired me! I made one last night with a toasted bagel thin and spread Skinny Cow French Onion cheese on. It was DELICIOUS!!!
Stephanie @ LiveCookLove says
I think you have officially convinced me to find and buy the Alternative Bagels. I checked the website and I hope they are at my local Sprouts store! If not, I might just have to order them online 🙂 It’s beautiful out here in Austin, TX too!
Kristin @ Absent Minded Kris says
I’ve found the Alternative Bagels in Wal-Mart in Austin—they are in the refrigerated section by the cream cheese 🙂
Melissa says
I feel the exact same way at the end of pretty much any sandwich. Last bite = pouty lip!
Jill says
I wanna try the alternative bagles soooo bad. the site has a min order of 18.00 and then shipping was 21.00!
I guess I cant justify that unless you tell me how good they really are. LOL
Amanda says
Julie,
I have just started reading your blog but I wanted to say thank you for always have interesting and fun things to read about. It truly brightens my day! Thank you and I look forward to many more posts to come!
peanutbutterfingers says
aw, thank you for such a nice comment. i’m so glad you found your way here!
Katie @ running4cupcakes says
I love your sandwich today! (and everyday!) I need to find some cinnamon bagels. I agree with you, the worst part is when it is gone. Oh well, there is always tomorrows breakfast/lunch/dinner. . . 🙂
Lindz @ Happy or Hungry says
Hahaha, sounds eerily similar to the award I received from my volleyball team ;). What I lacked in skill I definitely made up for in enthusiasm!
I really need to try out that bagel combo..
Jamie@cupcakedynamite says
HAHA! I was sooo bad at cheerleading when I was little (which is funny bc I ended up cheering in college- still badly I’m sure) and at camp they gave everyone these fantastic awards and gave me one for “nicest camper”. LOL
peanutbutterfingers says
i’d rather hang out with the nicest camper than the best cheerleader any day! 🙂
Jamie@cupcakedynamite says
LOL well THANKS! I would most definitely rather hang with the most entertaining swimmer!!
sassy molassy says
AH Just saw your choc overnight oats on fitsugar.com! Way to go, chica!
Sable @ Squat Like a Lady says
I think that’s a great award!! 5 years after high school top swim athletes likely aren’t great athletes anymore, but people with positive attitudes are still people with positive attitudes 😉
Lindsey @ Cardio Pizza says
Reminds me when I used to get “7th” and “8th” place ribbons (aka 2nd to last and last place) on the swim team when I was a little kid. Clearly I was meant to swim 😉
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
I swam until I was 14 and it was actually the one sport I was decent at, but I HATED it. I’m just not a water person at all!
Alexa @ SImple Eats says
Love LOVE cheese + jelly sandwiches. I was always the slow poke on track…probably way I got the “Most School Spirit” award. Ha.
Meg says
I must get my hands on some GF bagels and try this out 😀
Baking Serendipity says
I love the award! I’ve never tried the cheese and jelly combination…but I do love cream cheese and jelly on bagels, so I’ll have to give it a shot!
Tara @The Game of Life says
hah that is hilarious! But hey those are the people that make them team!! Without them it would be boring 🙂
Colleen @ Jimmy Choos on the Treadmill says
Those kind of awards are the best! And I know what you mean about the addiction to the bagel sandwich–I think I have been eating the same egg sandwich for over a year now! 🙂
lisa says
ever have a cinnamon raisin bagel (or toast) with cream cheese? SOOO good. Id be perfectly satisfied with a cream cheese “sandwich” with cinnamon raisin bread! 🙂
Jen says
Fun…I was a swimmer in high school and college! I LOVE reading your blog every evening! Thanks!
Mac says
I like to do cream cheese and jelly on my bagels, but I’ve never done jelly and cheese… interesting !
Floey says
How awesome! I was a swimmer in HS too! 🙂 What was your time for free?
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
oh my gosh, i have NO idea. i’m tellin’ ya, i wasn’t good, so i’m sure it wasn’t very competitive. 🙂
Floey says
Haha, I’m sure you were a speedy bullet
val says
I love this interesting combo. YUM
Whitney L. says
Alright… you’ve finally talked me into trying the cheese + jelly bagelwich combo! I might have to make a stop at the grocery store today 🙂
Caroline says
I did that workout today, with a few changes…I didn’t drop below 6.2 mph and kept the incline at 1.0, also I did the route 2 times…I loved it!!! The short sprints definitely made my time on the treadmill go by muuuuch faster!!! Thanks!!!!!
