If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, then you know that I am basically the most low maintenance person in the world when it come to my hair.
I get $7 hair cuts from Great Clips (I always go when I have a coupon) and I’ve never colored my hair.
This past week I was talking to my mother about how “blah” I’ve been feeling lately. I feel like my hair falls flat and is just kind of boring.
I suppose that’s not hard to believe considering I only ever get a trim when I get a haircut and my hair is cut at one length across the bottom. I’m so adventurous!
My mom suggested going to a real salon and speaking with a professional about the possibility of longer layers or a different haircut to add a little more oomph to my hair.
I made an appointment earlier this week for a haircut at J.Con in St. Pete.
After speaking with my stylist, Shelle, we decided to angle the hair around my face and do long layers in the back. I thought I’d feel nervous about doing something out of the ordinary, but Shelle made me feel confident that she wouldn’t do anything drastic and would keep my longer length.
Check out the new ‘do!
Totally different, right!? Okay, so it doesn’t look that different, but I think it will be fun to play around with the added layers. I just hope they don’t make my hair look even thinner!
When I arrived home from J.Con, I pinned my hair back to make Ryan think I got a bob. Muhaha!
He starred at me for a minute, smiled and said “You just pinned it back!” I get the feeling that he is a little attached to my longer hair. I’ve done the short thang before in middle school and it made my face look like a pumpkin, so short hair will not be seen on my head in the near future.
Breakfast
Today’s breakfast was a weekend favorite.
Pancakes!
I made the pancakes using Fiber One pancake mix that my parents had on hand. I’m hoping the added fiber will give these lil’ cakes some staying power.
Off to enjoy my Saturday!

Gorgeous!

a pumpkin?! i find that hard to believe, haha. i actually think that a lob would look great with your facial structure, maybe side bangs?!
clearly i love giving people opinions about their hair. haha
peanutbutterfingers says
we talked about doing thick side bangs! i chickened out… maybe next time!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
A pumpkin! haha, the visual on that made me laugh 🙂 Love your cut, it looks great. I envy all the money you’ve saved getting $7 haricuts for this long!
Kelli says
me too! I spend a small fortune evey 8 weeks with a cut and foils!
Sweet and Savvy says
Love the layers! I get my hair cut in a very similar way and I love it! It is simple and easy to fix, But not too boring!:)
Ciera @ Rose & Thistle says
Oh very cute! I love the layers plus in my hair I find layers make it look better when I’ve curled it & I know you wear yours like that too sometimes 🙂
Emma @ Microcosm of Life says
It looks soo sooo good! I love the “piecey layers” look…my hair is super thick so it never looks quite right on me. But you are pulling. it. off.
I’m like you though, I always want the same cut and wait a really long time in between them!
Vanessa says
I think your haircut is cute. I wish I could get $7 haircuts but I just don’t trust it with my hair (curly).
Diana says
Getting a new cut is SUCH a great way to mix things up – it’ll always grow back! The cut is super cute and layers might actually add MORE body to your hair!
I’ve actually been debating attempting your $7 trick – the $60+ cuts in NYC have been doing some serious damage to my wallet! :O
Nicole says
The layers look GREAT! You will love them. And they make ponytails look awesome.
And I just happened to have pancakes for dinner last night!!!

Gorgeous!!!! Love it! It’s fun to change things up once in awhile:)
Tracy @ Tracy's Treats says
BEAUTIFUL! I think it looks great with the layers!
Cait's Plate says
Haha I’m the same way – up until recently I only used what we call “Super Cuts” which is about a $10 hair cut. I’ve since learned that making the trip to a salon every once in a while is SO worth it!
Your hair looks fab 🙂
Leah says
Love it! I go to JCon too. 🙂
chelsea says
I’ve had a horrible hair cut experience before so now I just cut my own hair. I don’t get that soft fresh cut hair feel though 🙁
I asked for layers and GOT a bob. It was horrible..I cried 🙁 It was right before homecoming too and all I wanted was a trim with some layers added. Your hair looks amazing and just right <3
char @ char on a mission says
Tricking the hubby…love it! He can see through you though!! Time to bust out bigger guns! I need to do something like this to trick my hubby hahaha!
But anyways, the hair looks great!! I honestly feel like even a little change in hair can make a huge difference in mood. And I am so shocked you’ve never coloured your hair – good for you!!!! Your hair must love you for that!!!
Shannon [Tropical Eats] says
aww love it!
Morgan @ Some Kind of Sunshine says
YAY! I love layers! They definitely make your hair look like it has more body. CUTE.
Shanna, like Banana says
Looks faboosh and it’s a nice subtle change!
My hubby wouldnt like it if I cut my hair either…
Amanda says
I love your new hair! 🙂 It looks great! And those pancakes look really good too! I might just have to make some for tomorrow’s breakfast after seeing this picture!
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
Looks great! Really suits you 🙂
Bianca says
Your hair looks great!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Lovely! the pancakes and the hair haha 😉
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
I’ve done layers before but my hair grows like a weed so they only stay pretty for a few weeks, then you can’t even tell I had them! I love angles at the front too. I’ve talked to so many guys who say they “don’t care” whether a girl has short or long hair, but then the second a girl talks about cutting hers they tell her not to…
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
Very cute hair! A little change to add some variety, but not too crazy. I like it! I know what you mean by feeling a little nervous to do something different, but sometimes it can be fun. 🙂
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
I love it!! It’s adorable!
I also love that you tried to trick Ryan, too funny!
Kaitlyn@TheTieDyeFiles says
I finally splurged and got a good haircut a couple months ago! It’s amazing what a difference it makes. Yours looks great! I’ve been loving my Saturday morning pancakes too. I did banana this morning 🙂
Gracie (complicated day) says
I really like the layers! I am low maintenance myself – I actually always cut my own hair. I layer it, too, but more to thin it as it is a little too thick to lie flat and play nice. As long as you keep a neat bottom layer of hair at the length of your choice, it’s fun to play with layers in hair on top and not difficult to do yourself. I use a razor for a softer edge so in case I make a slip it isn’t obvious.
Aska @ Finding My Happy Ending says
Love the new ‘do! Gorgeous as always 🙂
Sarah says
Ever tried peanut butter on your pancakes? It’s a favorite of mine 🙂 I even take a little tupperware of peanut butter if I eat pancakes at a restaurant!
Brittany says
I love it!!
I used to be the same way with my hair and went months without getting it cut. When I did, I went to Hair Cuttery.
But I’ve started going to a real salon and getting regular hair cuts – it definitely helps to keep your hair healthy and looking good. I still haven’t ever dyed it though. I like the natural look. 🙂
Maria@La_Piattini says
Cute hair cut! I wish I could just go to Great Clips but I’m too scared! I get all freaked out about my hair so I just stick to the same salon hairstylist I’ve been going to for years.
Nicole @ Giraffelegs says
so cute!! bahaha poor ryan!
Marie says
I’m the opposite, I’m low maintenance with other things like shopping (hate it!) but I love going to the salon. Before being a SAHM, I used to go every 12 weeks. At first it was just a cut and then I started getting highlites. I have toned down a bit now. I actually tried out Great Clips because of you earlier this year and liked it!
Did you enjoy it enough to do it again? Your new cut looks great; you have gorgeous hair, regardless. I think I would freak out too if you cut it short. 😉 My husband is the same way about loving my hair longer.
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
I live for my salon time. live for it. cute cut, btw. (however, I rarely get in more than once every 6 mo!) I need to do something about it.
Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) says
Lookin’ fly, girl!! I love the out-of-salon feeling. Think I’ll probably schedule an appointment for myself soon too!
My Hubs loves my long hair too– he gets really weird when I suggest I might get a bob 🙂
Hillary says
Oy. I wish I could get $7 haircuts. My hair is out of control curly, and I only trust someone with a curly hair training background to cut it! I only get it cut twice a year, but it’s almost $100 each time. The price we pay, right? ; )
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
You & I are one in the same with our hair (hurr) Julie! I usually go in to Supercuts and just get a one length cut straight across.
And what’s even crazier is that I JUST did a post about my hair evolution yesterday! Great minds think alike?
Brandi @ The Vitamin Bee says
Super cute! I really really like it!
I’m super low maintenance (as much as I can be) with my hair too. I like it to be mostly one length! It’s so funny, my bf notices if the stylist gets a little carried away with the trimming. I think its cute that boys get attached to hairstyles! 🙂
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
Very cute! Layers are the easiest way to make your hair a little different, without doing anything too major! I’ve had them forever!
Dawn @ Blonde on a Mission says
Your hair looks amazing!
And I’m the same — I could never have short hair again… long hair gives me confidence, even if it’s thin!
Anna @ Food Fitness and Frolicking says
I LOVE your new haircut! It looks great!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
CUTE! I love the new do!
I am low maintanence with my hair too, so I feel ya!
mel says
I have the same fine long hair as you and I too have angles around my face and layers in the back. I love it and I like when I have my hair in a pony tail or half up I have the option of keeping a few pieces out to sweep across my face or pin them back with a clip or headband when they bother me or when I’m sweating! Love your cut!
Anne @strawberryjampackedlife says
Have you ever thought about going short? Granted, it might also be different for you in regards to face shape. I have very fine hair, and if my hair starts to reach my shoulders, it just looks blah. I go short and it gives me hair a lot more volume. I actually cut off my wedding length hair the day after the wedding, and it looks so much better.
Anne @strawberryjampackedlife says
Apparently I need to read closer. I still wouldn’t be too shy to try short hair again. I had a bad experience with layers in middle school, and now I couldn’t imagine my hair without them.
Linda says
Love the new cut. Looks great!
Sierra @ Posh Meets Pavement says
Looks great! I love my time at the salon, I feel like a lady of leisure. I drink coffee, I gossip, I read magazines, and I always leave feeling like a million bucks.
My husband is also terribly protective of my hair, and always insists that I never cut it. What is it with men and long hair?
Just so you know, you have opened a new chapter and you will never go back to Great Clips. Enjoy!
Dani @ Dani Delicatessen says
haha a pumpkin? Don’t you hate when you decide to go bold and get a different hair cut and you look like a completely different person-in a bad way. ha happens to me all too often-i should learn. The new cut looks great though! : )
Alaina says
I love the cut! And your natural color is gorgeous. 🙂
Nichole says
Your hair is so cute! I cut my hair short a long time ago and let’s just say that is never going to happen again!!
Melissa says
Since my mom is a hairstylist I’ve never had to pay for a haircut or color. Your new do looks great, but i always admire your hair being so straight and shiny. Mine is always wavy thick and Frizzy due to the new Orleans humidity.
