Since our neighborhood was quite the hot spot for trick-or-treaters last year, Ryan and I are well prepared with tons of chocolate to giveaway this evening.
Pumpkin Dog is prepared to keep a close watch to make sure no funny business goes down.
I figured I would make a big pot of soup for lunch that Ryan and I can easily reheat for dinner this evening. We’re thinking about hanging out on our front porch with our candy and a bottle of wine since it’s supposed to be nice and chilly this evening, and I figured soup would be the perfect porch dinner!
I cooked up a batch of Harry & David potato corn chowder using the mix that I bought when I was in Oregon and added a bunch of chicken to the base for a punch of protein.
The soup was incredibly flavorful and satisfying and I’m looking forward to eating it again tonight. Let’s just hope it passes the Soup Hater’s test.
And now it’s giveaway time!
New Balance 860s Lace Up for the Cure Giveaway
Ready to win a new pair of shoes!?
As I’m sure you’ve noticed from the plethora of pink that has popped up this month, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I have a fun pink-related giveaway for you guys today!
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while now, you know that my mom is a breast cancer survivor.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2008, underwent surgery (she had a double mastectomy), chemotherapy and radiation and now, with every scan that comes back cancer-free, our family breathes a sigh of relief. We all feel so lucky that my mom found the lump in her breast through self-exam and sought treatment when she did.
When New Balance reached out to me about their Lace Up for the Cure® Collection, I was happy to learn about their pledge to donate 5 percent of the suggested retail price of sales from their Lace Up for the Cure Collection (with a guaranteed minimum donation of $500,000) to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® in 2012.
The Lace Up for the Cure® Collection is available year-round and includes sneakers, zip ups, capris, tees, tank tops and sports bras. My two favorite items from the collection include this quarter-zip lightweight workout jacket that I wore on a hike with Ryan and Sadie last weekend:
And these incredibly comfortable and lightweight walking shoes:
Steel gray + pink is always a winning color combination in my book and I love the ruching on the inside of the sneakers. Such a fun, feminine touch!
When New Balance approached me about hosting a giveaway, I asked them if they’d be willing to donate $1 per giveaway entry up to $1,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and they agreed!
Now you can enter this giveaway to win a pair of New Balance 860s (normally $89.99) and know that your entry is helping to raise money to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and their efforts to find a cure for breast cancer through research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 50 countries.
To enter this giveaway, simply comment on this post below. It’s as easy as that! And since I’d love for us to hit 1,000 giveaway entries and take advantage of the full amount New Balance has offered to donate, you can tweet something along the lines of the following for an extra entry:
- Hoping to win a pair of @NewBalance Lace Up for the Cure shoes from @PBFingers!
If you send out a tweet, please remember to comment back on this post again to tell me you did!
I will randomly select a winner on Friday, November 2.
GOOD LUCK!
I am in desperate need of a new pair of shoes! Love these =)

A great giveaway for a great cause. So many of the active things that I do make me think of my friend, Joy, who we lost to Breast Cancer in February. For Joy!
I love this! So wonderful for New Balance to help raise money for breast cancer awareness.
Love the shoes! Love the color! Love the cause!
Our town postponed Halloween until next Wednesday because of Hurricane Sandy and the kids are pretty disappointed, but hearing your mom’s story about being a breast cancer survivor is a good reminder of what’s really important 🙂
Great job raising all this money for a great cause! Keep it up!
Such a great cause! I love when large companies give to charity!
Hot pink and grey is an awesome color combo!
Great cause, great giveaway! I love New Balance and would LOVE to win these sneakers 🙂

What a fantastic giveaway! Although it wasn’t breast cancer, my mom had surgery at the beginning of the year for uterine cancer and it was very scary. I am happy to say that, although she will have to get regular checks for the next 3 years, today she is cancer-free. What a blessing!
Such a great way to raise money for a great cause!
It’s awesome that they are donating for each entry! What an amazing company to stand by their cause! 🙂
What a great cause and a great idea on your behalf to suggest a $1 donation per entry! Also, the shoes are pretty cute, too 🙂
What an awesome idea! I love the shoes! My mom is a cancer survivor, too, so I’m just happy to help the cause. 🙂
I just found your website the other day through Pinterest and love it! You give great tips and ideas and I enjoy reading different recipes that you use. Thank you for supporting breast cancer and this giveaway! I wish your mother year after year of healthy reports!!
Great giveaway. I love new running shoes. Thanks!
What a great idea! NB’s are my favorite running shoe.
Hoping to win the 860 to wear in breast cancer marathon in Feb. Glad to hear your mom is doing well and cancer free! God is so good
To help for such an amazing cause!!
^^
I’m so happy your mom is doing well. My mom is a survivor also! Great giveaway for a great cause!
I LOVE New Balance and I’m in the market for new shoes! I sure hope I win! Also, best wishes to your mom – I’m so glad she’s doing so well. My best friend’s mom (so my surrogate mom) just lost her battle to cervical cancer, so I’ve spent a little too much time thinking about the other side of the coin recently.
Just tweeted, too! (megash113)
What a great giveaway snd love the running shoes!
I’d love to win New Balance shoes! Especially knowing that this is for a good cause!
Great giveaway. Gray + pink is one of my favorite color combos!
Wow! What a great way to earn money for a cause close to so many people’s hearts! Awesome that NB is doing that! And what a great response you’ve had here!!
Love those shoes! And I need another pair….:)
I have found myself only buying New Balance the last few years. I love them! They hold up really well and are great support. But the main reason is that I found out they are manufactured in the US, one of the only athletic shoes that are fully made in America! I’m in need of a new pair, so if I win you save me a trip to the mall 😉
and i tweeted!
I have some NB shoes and love them!!!
Such a great cause! I love hearing your mom and other survivors’ stories!
