Today has been dedicated to paperwork, drug tests and fingerprinting. Can you tell Iām getting ready to begin a new job?
Workout
Ryan and I headed to the gym nice and early for our usual Monday morning workout. I followed the planned Best Body Boot Camp workout and loved it. Best Body Boot Camp workouts change every two weeks, so this was a repeat week and I repeated last weekās workout, but increased the number of reps for some of the exercises.
The killer move of the day? Surrender squats! (You can see Jillian Michaels demo this exercise in this video at 1:27.)
They are intense. My shoulders were burning by the end and I was more than ready to move onto the next exercise once I completed my final rep. Theyāre tough!
Breakfast
Breakfast this morning came in sandwich form. I made an egg sandwich with jelly and cheese and it hit the spot.
After typing up my morning blog post, I got ready for the day and headed out to take care of some new-hire must dos for my new job.
My first stop was a visit to the police department.
I had to get fingerprinted as part of a background screening and was surprised that the whole process was computerized. I guess I should have assumed that it would be, but I was prepared to get inky! The woman who took my fingerprints said that they still use ink from time-to-time, but typically stick to computerized fingerprinting now.
With my fingerprints in hand, I headed back out to my car and drove about 30 minutes to Quest Diagnostics for a drug test. Always a fun experience! I waited for about an hour before it was my turn.
I then took all of my paperwork to the gym where I will be working and my new boss joked, āDo you feel like youāre going to work for the FBI?ā There was a lot of paperwork and background check formalities, thatās for sure!
Lunch
Last night, after dinner, I prepared a big pot of chili so Ryan and I could have a good meal to reheat for dinner tonight after our small group meeting. When I arrived home, all I wanted for lunch was that chili, so I guess Iāll be having the same thing for lunch and dinner today!
Hope youāre having a great Monday!
Chili is one of those meals that you can definitely do twice a day š Totally need to check out those squats…I’m a big squat fan!
Wow you guys have to do some full on tests before you start a job. We don’t have anything as intense as that here in Australia as yet but I know they are thinking of it.
Those surrender squats do definitely sound intense!
I’ve never had to do the fingerprinting thing before! That was definitely a new one for me!
I am sooo excited for you! You are going to love PT!
HahaI that’s about all the same things I had to do to get my carrier’s permit recently! And I had a similar sandwich for breakfast..soo good!
I don’t think I’ve ever been drug tested! And the only finger printing I’ve done was for taking the LSAT… they take identification very seriously I guess…
Julie – quest now has online appt scheduling. At least in our area they do – no more waiting – last time – i was in and out in under 10 min! Best of luck to you in the new job !
Sooo… you passed your drug test? š Haha! Just kidding. I’ve never had to do any of those things… yet!
Did finger printing take forever? When I had to go for my teacher background it took at least 25 minutes because my “finger prints were gone”. They say people who deal with a lot of paperwork are the hardest people to fingerprint. Lucky I had a nice officer, but it’s weird standing in the “book’em” room! š
Congrats on the new job! BTW…I know exactly what you mean…surrender squats are totally hardcore. I hate them, but they’re definitely worth the pain!
Love the Jillian Michaels DVDs — surrenders are no joke!
I work for the military, so I know all about new job testing! Hope it all went smoothly for you!
good luck with your new job!!
I remember doing all those errands! I work in physical therapy and had to do all that finger probing stuff too. Fun stuff. Excited to hear how your new job goes!
Congrats on your new job! Can’t wait to hear how you like it! Would you ever consider writing about stuff you learn in small group? I’m interested to read!
Hi Elizabeth! I actually wrote about one of our discussions here: https://www.pbfingers.com/2013/03/12/love-is-a-verb/ I definitely hope to touch on more in the future, but just in case you’re interested, we’re following Andy Stanley’s “Staying In Love” DVDs. š We watch one part per group meeting and then spend a lot of time discussing it. I love it!!!
Thanks so much!!!
Fingerprinting is SUCH a pain. I know when I went to get mine done, the machine would not read my fingerprints and i kept having to scan them over and over. He was saying how I might have to come back the entire time and I was thinking, “Uhm, no. Get this done now.” haha
I thought I was going to have to be fingerprinted because I work part-time at a high school, but they never fingerprinted me! The only time I have ever been fingerprinted was as a small child. My parents got us fingerprinted in case we were ever kidnapped (scary thought).
congrats on the new job! sounds awesome!

I’ve never had to do fingerprinting before, for a job?! Crazy.! I bet that feels good to get all those errands done š
Those surrenders look awesome – I am going to add them into my aerobics class this week! Thank for the link to the video. š
How exciting!! I am so happy for you!
I remember having to go through a similar background check when I started volunteering at the hospital. Definitely an interesting experience. Congrats on your new job!
I know you hate zeee needles! I hope you are okay š
That does seem like an awful lot of red tape to work at a gym! Oh well; it’ll be worth it!
I was thinking the same thing about those surrender squats this morning. Yikes!
those squats look intense!
Ahh, sweet and savory breakfasts are just the best, aren’t they??
Good luck with all of your job prep! I hope it goes smoothly š
Hey Julie! I recently had to get fingerprinted for a job too, but the police department by me still uses ink. I went out to lunch with a friend afterwards and looked like a serious criminal covered in that black ink – needless to say I got some funny looks š Best of luck to you with your new job adventure!
Good luck on your new job girl! I’m getting ready to graduate from college here in May so I know what you’re going through with all those must do’s!
Wow that is a lot of background checks! At least you know your coworkers are safe people lol.
Those surrender squats are intense! They hurt so good, and I love them because it really changes things up from typical squats!
Drug tests are the worst, waiting around for an hour just to pee in a cup stinks.
Congrats on the new job!!!!
Oh goodness, fingerprints!…I’m a teacher, and I’ve had to get my fingerprints taken at LEAST four times in the past four years due to certification requirements for different states. Such a pain in the bum! It is for good reason, though š
I had to do the fingerprinting for my teaching license last summer and that was my first time seeing the computer prints too. It was cool!
Sounds pretty intense!! All for a good cause though. š
How exciting š working at a gym sounds absolutely… what’s the word? FUN AND NOT LIKE WORK AT ALL š Jealous!
Wow! Us nurses up in Canada don’t even have to go through all that when we get hired! All we have to do is get a security clearance check. I’m honestly surprised that we *don’t* have to do drug tests though, since so many jobs do.
I’m so excited for you and your new job! You’re gonna have a blast!
That’s so exciting…and a little crazy on crack fingerprinting and all š Definitely will check out those squats!
That chilli looks identical to the one we make at home for dinner! Hopefully it tastes just as good too š
Do yall not eat at your small group meeting? That’s my favorite part! Ok, we’ll maybe not my favorite part, but I do love to sit and have a meal with my ladies!
Hi Julie,
As if you had to go through all those checks !! What’s the world coming to lol glad you passed (or did you?) haha just kidding.
Thanks for the video, I will check it out, need to work on my legs.
Thanks for sharing.
š
Okay, somehow I’m going to add those surrender squats in my workout today. AWESOME MOVE!
Oh dear, I’m so going to have to do this one day too when I get my certification. Eeekkk. Thanks for posting about it so that I’m fully aware!
You put jelly on your egg sandwiches too!? It makes me happy I’m not the only one. My BF thought I was crazy until I made him try it.
To bad our world has come to everyone needing fingerprinting for so many jobs. I used to be the one taking your prints. Did it for years. Went from the messy ink to computer.
I started BBB a few days late so yesterday was my first time doing surrender squats and boy am I feeling them today! I can’t wait to incorporate them into future workouts.
Wow, that’s intense! Haha, I remember once going to Quest Diagnostics for some bloodwork…I understand your “fun” experience š
Ahh you got me craving BBQ now!
That’s actually one of my jobs at where I work, background checks aka fingerprinting and we also use a computerized one. š
I think I missed a post – you have a new job?! SO EXCITING. I need to catch up.
By the way, I typically have to get fingerprinted for my job, and last year they used real ink on me! My fingers looked awesome all day. š
Will definitely be trying out those squats–love a good burn š
New jobs are exciting. I felt like I was joining everything when I enlisted in the National Guard. It was intesne. Background interviews, fingerprints, DNA work up, the list goes on.
I bet you will be an awesome trainer- congrats on the job!
I find races on active.com and local blog that posts a ton of races… Carolina Runner!
Ugh waiting for all of those tests is so annoying! Luckily you were able to knock them all out at one time! I need to go get my fingerprints done again for teaching clearance. Congrats, Congrats, Congrats on the new job!!
