Last night, I did a little experimenting in the kitchen and prepared what I hoped would be a delicious, yet super easy breakfast bar that didnāt require any time in the oven.
The end result was a chocolaty, chewy and protein-packed bar that was ready for me to eat this morning without any effort at all. A great option for a go, go, go kind of morning!
No Bake Breakfast Bars
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 2 small bars 1x
- Category: breakfast, recipes
- Cuisine: Breakfast
Description
These No Bake Breakfast Bars are chocolaty, chewy and a protein-packed bar that was ready for me to eat this morning without any effort at all. A great option for a go, go, go kind of morning!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
- 2 tablespoons protein powder (I used chocolate)
- 1/2 teaspoon cocoa powder (optional, but recommended for a more chocolaty flavor)
- 2 tablespoons almond butter
- 2 tablespoons chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons chopped or slivered nuts (I used almonds)
- 2 ā 3 tablespoons almond milk (or milk of your choice)
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients except for almond milk. Stir everything together and add almond milk, one tablespoon at a time until everything is moistened but thick enough to shape into bars.
- Shape into bars and refrigerate overnight.
Paired with a banana, this breakfast bar was one heck of an easy morning meal!
This recipe can easily be doubled, tripled or even quadrupled to make a giant batch of breakfast bars to last you through the week.
An important note: Use a protein powder that you love. From a flavor standpoint, I think Fitmixer chocolate milkshake protein powder is seriously delicious and Iāve heard fabulous things about the flavor of their vanilla milkshake protein powder, too. Iāve also used Ryanās Optimum Nutrition 100 percent whey for years and like it as well, but we are both in the market for a quality protein powder with a better ingredient list (Iāve heard good things about SFH) and would love to hear your recommendations if you have any that you love!
Questions of the Morning
- Do you ever incorporate protein powder into your meals or smoothies?
- What is your favorite kind of protein powder?
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Sunwarrior, vanilla preferably but pea protein makes for good pancakes! I like to use a bit of hemp in a green smoothie. Love that the recipe just makes the two bars!
Sanaz @ Run for Cake says
Yum! I love no bake everything. Throw some oatmeal in there and you can have my heart! I am not big on protein powder. So many of them have a lot of artificial indigents. I am on the hunt for a simple delicious powder so these days I find other sources of protein for my smoothies (mostly Greek Yogurt).
p.s. still can’t get enough of the new blog look!
Jess says
I might just have to make these since I have all the ingredients on hand and they sound delicious! I have never liked a protein powder until I tried Solgar’s Whey to Go protein powder in chocolate. It is seriously yummy!
Becky @ Life Outside The Box says
I use Formulx Whey, it’s popular in the CrossFit community. All natural and very clean!
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat says
I love how simple these are and would definitely be an easy snack to bring to work with me. I love PlantFusion protein powder. I use it all the time in smoothies, oatmeal, granola bars, energy bites, etc. It’s so versatile!
Jackie says
These look awesome!
Sabrina says
I love all your no bake recipes. Thanks for making it so easy!
Ashley @ Sweat for Sweets says
This looks great! Thanks for this recipe. I’m not huge into protein powder (it kind of scares me what’s truly in them!) and haven’t found one natural enough that I truly love yet. That said, I haven’t really been looking that hard either, so I’m always open to recommendations. Love the new blog look, Julie! š
Paige @ Your Trainer Paige says
These look delicious! I love making protein bars š
As for protein powders, Poliquin’s Whey powder is made of extremely high quality whey protein and ingredients. Also, Whey Cool is made from the highest quality ingredients and the whey is from grass-fed cows. I love ’em both! Of course, they don’t taste quite like Fitmixer ;), but from a quality stand point, they’re awesome!
Abi@AbsofSteel says
mmm, that sounds delicious. The few protein powders that I’ve tried to make into bar or snack ball form tend to give it a kind of weird texture. i’ll have to check out the protein powders you recommended
Megan says
You really can’t go wrong with oats and a nut butter! I am not a big protein powder user so I have no suggestions for you!
Jana @ Bananas for Balance says
I’m checking back here for others’ recommendations too! I’ve experimented with all kinds of protein powder but haven’t found one with an ingredient list or taste I truly love. This one has been the best so far – http://shop.rainbowlight.com/Protein-Energizer-Creamy-Vanilla/p/RBLT-410064&c=RainbowLight@ByName. Love the new blog look by the way!!

Check out http://www.perfectfitprotein.com – it’s my favorite protein powder !
Dana says
These look great!! Love the new facelift! š
Tiff @ Love Sweat & Beers says
Oooo, a new look! (Maybe I’ve been gone too long, is it new?) I like the idea of chocolate in my breakfast. š
Aimee - funfitgirl says
YUM! These looks amazing! I’m definitely going to be making some this weekend.
I like to use Vega protein powder in smoothies…I haven’t tried in baking yet, but I want to!
Amy says
I love sun warrior protein. It is vegan and has a very small ingredient list!
Marissa @ Barefoot Colorado says
I’m a big fan of Progenix (belgian chocolate!) or BSN Syntha-6 (Vanilla cake batter!)
Hillary | Nutrition Nut on the Run says
Is that Winco ground almond butter? My favorite!
peanutbutterfingers says
It’s just plain ground almond butter from Earth Origins. I love it!! š
Miranda @ Lovely Wife Lovely Life says
Those look amazing! I’m still searching for a good protein powder. I have PlantFusion right now and so far, so good!
Lyric says
I do occasionally inlcude protein powder in my smoothies and the vega vanilla almond protein powder does taste good but in anything thing else it tastes, wellā¦ not so good and it was super expensive. So Im still on the look out for my favourite protein powder; i’ve heard good things about Cellulor but I cannot find it anywhere!
Katrina says
Great recipe!! I have a hard time reading the new print on your blog and I miss that your comments aren’t highlighted in pink anymore. That always made it easy to read your comments to other people’s comments. I think I’m the only one that has anything bad to say about the new look! š
Kelsey says
I personally use Syntha-6 from BSN and the flavor is out of this word amazing but the ingredient list is not quite as impressive. I have heard great things about Gnarly protein and their ingredient list alone is worth justifying the higher price…http://gognarly.com/
Kim @ Hungry Healthy Girl says
These look great! I typically don’t use protein powder in my recipes, but when I do my go-to protein powder is MRM. Great ingredients!
Kylie says
Looks good! I love to have healthy grab ‘n’ go snacks/food on hand! I totally agree with you on finding a great tasting protein powder…I’ve heard good things about MRM and I tried About Time Pumpkin Spice and it was pretty good.
Jess @dearhealthyness.com says
Easy and no bake… yes please! However, I barely use protein powder so I don’t know much about varieties or which one is better :/
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
My favorite protein powder is Sunwarrior, but I also like Perfect Fit Protein from the Tone It Up girls. I add it to smoothies, oatmeal, and sometimes mix it with PB2 to make a protein sauce!
Allie says
I only use SFH after my CrossFit coach urged me to switch. It is one of the cleanest ones out there, and while it takes getting used to just having it with water, I feel a lot healthier taking it and knowing that it’s truly helping me recover from my CrossFit WODs and runs.
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
Wow these look great! I will be bookmarking them for sure!
Amy says
Those look delicious! I can’t wait to make them. As for protein powders, I have been struggling to find one that does not give me a stomach ache :(.
Are you still a member of the Junior League? I have been a longtime reader, and remember you going to some meetings when you moved to Ocala. I just moved to a new place and was thinking of trying it out, just wondering your thoughts!
Lindsay @ Fit & Awesome says
These look great! I’m going to try and make them with gluten free rolled oats.
Right now my favorite protein powders are Amazing Meal and Vega One.
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
We make some similar “balls” sometimes, and they’re delicious!! Anything no bake is fabulous! We like to add shredded coconut too š
Rachel @LittleChefBigAppetite says
Oh my gosh these look so great! I love that you don’t have to bake them. So easy. I love Jay Robb Egg White Protein powder. I avoid dairy, so this is a great alternative and the taste is delicious!

Cellucor Whey Protein – Peanut Butter Marshmallow. It’s SO creamy and just tastes awesome. Who can beat a fluffernutter?

I love making these kinds of bars for a morning or afternoon snack at work! Easy, portable, and nutritious!
Ashley says
Do you think these would work with an egg white substitute for the protein powder?
Rudi says
I love About Time Whey i have the birthday cake flavor!
— great ingredient list and it doesn’t leave you feeling bloated!!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
My new favorite protein powder is the Perfect Fit protein powder. I haven’t tried the chocolate but the vanilla is really good. I’ve also enjoyed some of the Plant Fusion and Vega flavors. I’m all about plant-based proteins. š
peanutbutterfingers says
I’ve been wanting to try Perfect Fit!
Ashlee says
They have a sample pack for 7 $$ and free shipping http://perfectfitprotein.com/pages/perfect-fit-sample-3-pack-free-ship-special-offer
megan @ that running girl says
Okkk these look AMAZING! (Also, still ooing and aweing over your new layout.) I am curious what kind of protein powder you use. I have been too nervous to incorporate any into my daily diet because most of them I see have a ton of ingredients. Any suggestions? I am definitely going to make those bars soon!
Leanne says
I tried to be good and switch to a natural, plant-based protein. It said on the tub that it was “delicious”….ummm ya, they were wrong. It’s especially gross in overnight oats – it gives them this really weird texture. So now I have this big tub of gross protein powder, and I’ve lost the receipt (which sucks, since I bought it @ Costco and I know they’ll take anything back!). The brand is LeanFit, Complete Green Protein, I wouldn’t recommend it. I think I need to bite the bullet and order PerfectFit, I’ve heard great things about it!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
Mmmm, these look great and super simple!
I love adding protein powder to my oats or shakes to help my protein intake for the day. My favorite is Designer Whey!
Kate@ Trekking Kate says
I love adding a scoop of vanilla protien powder to backed goods. Such an easy way to kinda healthify desserts!
Stephanie at Whole Health Dork says
What a great recipe! I think I’ll be whipping these up this weekend! Thanks for sharing!

I am a huge fan of Progressive Organics Vanilla Whey Protein. If the quality of the product is something you are interested in, this might be a good fit for you too! I really enjoy the flavour as well!
Here is a link for information about it (I just realized that I sound like I am making a sales pitch- haha, I just really like the product!)

Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
Those look awesome! I love make ahead breakfasts. I made a big egg/veggie casserole yesterday to last me through this week! and hmmm I don’t use protein powder so can’t help too much… I love Tone it Up and I know they have the Perfect Fit protein which supposedly is super natural/organic/healthy!
Natalie @ Free Range Human says
I’m so glad you put out the call because I’ve been in the market for a good protein powder. I’ve never really used them so I’m a novice when it comes to picking one out!
Dawn says
These look yummy! I love to mix chocolate protein powder into oatmeal and then top with sliced strawberries. It almost feels like dessert for breakfast. Right now I’m on a smoothie kick, and I’ve been meaning to pick up some protein powder to throw in there.
Stella says
Jay Robb protein powder is a great one with a really small ingredient list – I’ve only tried the chocolate, but I can’t imagine the vanilla is bad.
