Eventually I was over snacking through dinner and figured I should sit down to a real meal. One problem: Neither Ryan nor I were in the mood to cook.
In the end we decided to keep things simple.
English muffin pizzas to the rescue!
Roasted green beans served as our side and provided added nutrients to our meal.
And for dessert? I have a mini banana bread oatmeal loaf baking in the oven and it smells fantastic!
October Book Club
With nearly 54 percent of the vote, American Wife is the winning book for this month’s book club!
On November 15 I’ll dedicate a post to this book that will include my review and discussion questions like I did last time with Room.
I hope you guys will join me! I ordered this book for super cheap (less than $4!) on Amazon.com and it should be arriving this week!
Speaking of paying for books… I really need to get my act together and get a library card. I heard our new local library is actually quite nice and I still have yet to explore!
Another thing I need to do? Get a driver’s license with our new address and my new last name on it. I think I’m going to make it a point to do this before our one year wedding anniversary at the end of the month. Better late than never, right?
Olivia @ PeanutButterNerd says
When I was a kid I used to eat english muffin pizzas all the time – only without any sauce. I would just toast an english muffin, then top it with cheese, the microwave it. Weird huh?! I was kind of a chubby kid though, haha!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Pretty sure it took me like 3 months after we moved to go to the library….I guess it is just one of those things we keep putting off! haha.
I changed my name as fast as I could because I knew I would never do it–so I guess I did that one fast! Best of luck-it is sort of a pain….
I LOVE english muffin pizzas-looks delish!
Hope says
English muffin pizza is the best! Sometimes the most simple dinners are the best tasting. 🙂
I love going to the library. It definitely saves on buying books but the only downside is that you have a time constraint.
I hope changing last names isn’t a huge pain. I think I’m going to do it as soon as we get back from our honeymoon.
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
I’m so excited to talk about American Wife with everyone on here! Also, those English muffin pizzas look amazing!
It didn’t even occur to me the process involved after marriage with changing your name! Was it a lot of work?
peanutbutterfingers says
it’s not a TON of work, just kind of a pain! i feel like there should just be a box you check when you get your marriage certificate if you want to change your name.
Sweet and Savvy says
I was not in the mood to cook at all either! Itonically, my dinner included roasted green beans and eggs! Great minds think alike… or lazy minds? 😉
dana a. says
Have you thought about a kindle? I have one and its awesome! Now, you can check out books from your local library too. Just an idea:)
My Mom is making an awesome Mexican crockpot meal…it smells so yummy!
Anna @ Food Fitness Frolicking says
Your night sounds pretty similar to mine..I found myself snacking through cheesy bunnies at 7pm and decided to make an official meal of cheesy pasta. Haha
Rebecca says
I still have my NY license… And I haven’t lived there for almost 3 years 😡
Do you think buying the books isn’t worth it? I’ve been considering ordering some cheap ones online not only to read but to build up a little library but I’m not sure if it’ll be worth the money.
peanutbutterfingers says
well, now i have a full bookshelf, so i’m not as big on buying books anymore! before that, i liked having a little collection.
Cara @ EAT.PRAY.RUN. says
Pizza muffins remind me of bagel bits and THAT makes me happy. I used to love those preservative packed things as a kid!
Beth says
I got married the same day as you and have yet to change my name, too – I’m considering it part of my husband’s anniversary gift since he’s really excited for me to do it 🙂
Pumped for the new book although my sister got me hooked on “The Last Summer (of You and Me)” – pretty addicting
Linda says
I changed my name officially very soon after I got the certificate in the mail. On my license, however…I think it took me at least a year, if not more. I had to get a new license a week before we got married and was not in the mood to pay another 30 bucks for another one two months later.
Best part about the whole changing of the name thing was the certificate. We live in Ohio, but got married in Florida, so every time I’d take it somewhere, they’d look at it and say, “This is an application, not a marriage certificate.” “Yeah, except for that big old notarized seal at the top that says otherwise.” I had the library card changed the day I came home from the honeymoon though. I worked at the library so it was easy-peasy, and I didn’t have to explain myself to anyone. 😉
Gen says
That dinner looks awesome…simple but tasty! Can’t wait to read your book review! 😀
Kari Burghardt says
Mmmmm, I love the way banana bread makes the house smell. I just made really good healthy banana bread muffins last night. I posted the recipe on my blog if you want to check it out. Take care!

Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
I was in a “no mood to cook” last night, and we ended up with leftovers. It happens! Tonight I made that baked potato soup you made from Skinnytaste – both my husband and I loved it! It’s so easy too.
About the driver’s license – I’ve lived in Utah for a little over a year and a half and just got my Utah driver’s license about a month ago. Oops! 😉
Sylvia @ Frolic Through Life says
I can’t wait to have the American Wife be the first book I download onto my new iPad. Exciting stuff.
I have a library card since I’ve been a kid, but our local library stinks. All of the funding goes out the window since NYC is in all sorts of financial troubles.
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
Haha, that’s my sister-in-law’s goal for this Saturday, to get a new license! Although she got married in June. We also had a debate this weekend on whether she should change her e-mail address, which has her maiden name. Personally, I said no; that would be such a pain!!!
Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats says
English muffin pizzas are SO wonderful and simple! Love them! 🙂
For some reason I feel like you and Ryan have been married for way longer than a year! lol.
Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) says
Aw, I love this book!!! One of my favs.
English muffin pizzas used to be a staple in my house growing up when my parents didn’t feel like cooking.. they always remind me of my dad!
Nicole says
Hey, a book I have already read. I am fairly sure this one is loosely based on George and Laura Bush. I’m just saying.
We have those nights, when no one wants to cook. Or I should say me, since I do about 95% of it (and happy with it that way). So once in a while, I say “you are on your own” and I have a bowl of cereal. Or toast.
Nicole!

you know, i’m going to be honest…i wasn’t totally in love with American Wife. i heard such good things about it and it was not at all what i was expecting! a little too long…but i hope everyone else really enjoys it! there were definitely some good parts!
Amy says
Do you use fresh green beans? And do you eat them like French fries – with your fingers? I tried making them a while back and they just didn’t turn out right. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.
peanutbutterfingers says
yes! fresh beans. i usually eat them with a fork.
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Great dinner! Can’t wait to hear the book review 🙂
Cait's Plate says
I hear ya! We did the same thing for dinner tonight!! Naan pizzas and side salads 🙂
Kara says
Hey Julie- how do you buy your green beans? Frozen or fresh? They always look so yummy…
peanutbutterfingers says
fresh! definitely. i feel like frozen ones always have a weird texture.
Denae says
What type of Freelance work do you do? and how would a person start doing that?
Electra @ vanillabeanlean.com says
New drivers license with the new name!?!? Ooo … that’s actually pretty darn exciting!
And I’d love to hear more about your freelance work too and how you go about acquiring it, like Denae said. Maybe you can work it into blog talk tuesdays?
Did I ever tell you that your blog rocks my socks?? 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
haha thanks, electra! and yes, a freelance post is in the works!
KellyB@goodfoodtripslife.com says
English muffin pizzas are the bomb. Seriously…I like them on bagel thins too. Yum. haha I love how your plate looks like a smiley face.
Shannon says
OOO I love mini pizzas on sandwich thins. Sometimes if I happen to have skim ricotta in the fridge I’ll spread that on the bottom, then add the sauce, then sprinkle the top cheese. So yummy.
Lindsey says
I finally got a library card this summer and love it and what is even better is I go online find the books I want, put them on hold and then go to the check out desk and they are ready for me!
Brandy @ Let's Grab a Coffee says
I just got this book a few weeks ago! Thanks for making this so easy on me. 🙂
Ashley C says
I love english muffin pizzas!
Also, I have seen you and Ryan’s “first look” picture popping up on Pinterest a lot in the last few days. Kinda fitting since your anniversary is soon! =)

Do you ever get real pizza?? From an Italian place?? Are there any good pizza places in Florida? This is coming from a Jersey girl, home of great pizza! haha.
peanutbutterfingers says
yes! definitely!
Khushboo says
I am loving green beans at the mo, even raw! Looks like a great dinner 🙂
erica says
i am in the process of changing my name on everything! (guys have it so easy!) i had to get a new license asap so i can travel!
Alexis says
Tip: if you get pulled over, say yes, this is my current address. I got a ticket for that! For being honest! A warning but then a ticket for not having current address! I went immediately to fix it, and now a drivers license pic with swollen crying eyes and no makeup!
peanutbutterfingers says
aw!! and here i thought honesty was the best policy… 🙂
Lauren says
Oh gosh you just reminded me that I SERIOUSLY need to update my license. Why is it so hard to remember that? 🙂 I even have gotten pulled over with an outdated one and it STILL hasn’t convinced me to go get a new one yet. haha
Mercedes says
Just ordered the book! Hopefully I can get it in time and have it read before you do your review 🙂
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
The library is such a great resource – even though we have a great public library system in Pittsburgh, I haven’t renewed my card in two years… oops!
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
You should get an e-reader! I have a Nook & I <3 it!
Amanda says
Definitely join the library! Not sure about yours, but mine also had a huuuge selection of DVDs that you could rent for free. Also you can renew books online, so it’s super easy 🙂 Loooved American Wife, it’s very juicy!
Nicole Pearson says
Hey Julie,
Congrats on your mention in the newest Oxygen magazine!! It is one of my favorite magazines and was fun to see your name mentioned! I have been following your blog for a while now and can relate to the early morning workouts, It’s not always easy, but is such a nice feeling to have my work out over with bright and early.
Jillian Michaels says to ask yourself “is an extra half hour in bed going to get me to my goals today?” LOVE IT!
Keep doing what your doing girl!

Hi Julie, Can you give me any info. or leads on freelance work? I desperately want/need to break into this area and have no luck. Any advice, websites, places that need anything? Thanks for tips.
Vicky says
Great post! Those look amazing! I wasn’t in the mood to cook last night either, so I made an omelet with mushrooms and baked Alexia sweet potato fries.. totally random, but definitely delicious!
cheryl says
i’m a big fan of amazon’s used section. paying for shipping isn’t so bad when i often get books for under a dollar (and often from charity-related places)!
i had passed over American Wife many times but looked at it again when you listed it. since i am a liberal and a pacifist who fell totally in love with a conservative military guy, i def had a new take on the description. i actually also got it on amazon (a penny, plus 3.99 shippiing…all paid for by visa points) and it just hit my mailbox an hour ago!
Amber K says
I love utilizing my local library. It’s where I get all of my books! The only bummer is sometimes I put books on hold and don’t seem them for awhile and then all of a sudden they all pour in at once. I just got 4 loooong books that came in together. But I’m powering through!
