Hello, hello!
I hope you are having a lovely afternoon.
My afternoon was as lovely as it can be when you have an annual women’s exam on the agenda. I like my doctor a lot but I am still waiting for the day when I feel even 10 percent more comfortable once I slip into that paper gown. It’s never a fun experience, but everything seemed to check out okay and I was on my way a little more than an hour later. (There was a serious wait time before I was brought back to an exam room and I entertained myself by catching up on some emails on my phone.)
Work + Workout
Work today went well! My TRX class was the highlight of the day for me since I put some time into planning a new shakeup workout for the class.
As for my own workout (I don’t do the TRX workout with the class which I explain further in this post), I kept things short and sweet since I wanted to have time to shower before my appointment. After 10 minutes on the elliptical, I rounded out my workout with a 15-minute Nike Training Club (NTC) workout and some additional leg exercises in the weight room.
Today’s NTC workout was the Beach Legs workout, which is quickly becoming a go-to workout for me on days when I want to work my legs but I’m not in the mood to pound out tons of heavy squats, deadlifts or lunges. It’s awesome and if you’re looking for a quality leg workout that doesn’t require weights and keeps things moving, I highly recommend it!
Lunch
Before I headed out to my doctor’s appointment, I grabbed lunch in the break room. (<—I accidentally typed “weight room” at first. Now that would be a treat.)
My salad was enjoyed out of a Tupperware container, but since I made the same salad for dinner last night, I’ll share last night’s photo with you instead since it looks slightly more appealing.
Feta + Watermelon + Arugula + Olive Oil + Salt + Pepper
I’m pretty sure that is my all-time favorite salad. It’s so simple but so, so good. A summertime staple for sure!
Since I am done with work for the day, I am planning to run a few errands before heading home. I’m hoping to swing by Ulta to pick up a heat protectant for my hair. When I had my hair done for my sister’s wedding, the woman who did my hair seriously stressed the importance of a heat protectant, especially since my hair is so thin. I should’ve asked her for brand recommendations because I have no idea what I should buy, so if any of you have any recommendations for heat protectants you use and love, please let me know.
See ya later!

Oooh I’ve never had watermelon on a salad before! That sounds super good! Can’t wait til watermelon is in season and in stores again in Wisconsin 🙂
And I love the leg workouts on NTC! Short, but sometimes not so sweet when I’m sore afterwards! haha
Ashley says
Now that the weather is getting warmer I seriously need to bring this salad into my life!
tricia says
I use John Frieda’s frizz-ease protection serum and it works great! That watermelon salad looks amazing and makes me craze summer, which seems like its never going to come to NYC 🙁
Ashley says
My go-to has been JF frizz-ease for 12 years (wow, that makes me feel old). I didn’t even think to list it because it’s so much a part of my routine I don’t think of it as a protectant!
Ashley says
CHI has a really good heat protectant 🙂
Kelby says
That watermelon and feta salad looks AMAZING! Looks very simple, but so delicious. I must try!

Jen @ Pretty Little Grub says
Watermelon on salad! I never thought of that…
I know I should use a heat protectant too but am soo bad at that.
Jodea @ chillichocolatelove.com says
I adore Moroccan Oil – I can’t live without it! It’s not cheap but you only need a teeny blob, so a bottle lasts ages. Plus it smells good and is natural.
Mary B says
You have ‘fine’ hair, not ‘thin’ hair. I do too, and I think it sounds better that way. 😉
Laura@SneakersandSpatulas says
One thing that helps me feel better in those little paper gowns is to wear a zip up hoodie. It keeps me warmer and more comfortable! Since it zips up it is easy to remove if necessary.
Ashlyn says
Looks delish! I’ll be picking up some watermelon for my salad on the way home! I love Its a Ten or the trusty old Biosilk, but if you have fine hair then you may want to stay away from oils. I also have Redken Clear Moisture polishing prep leave in… smells amazing! I have fine hair but lots of it and these are my go to’s 🙂
Heather @ Housewife Glamour says
That salad looks phenom! As for heat protectant sprays, I currently use two: Redken Heat Glide for blow drying (http://bit.ly/1iHDTbb) and CHI Iron Guard for dry hair when I use the straightener or curling wand (http://bit.ly/1dukHZo). Both can be purchased at Ulta, Target, Walmart or even at convenient stores like CVS or Walgreens! 🙂

TRESemme! http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=prod2111184
Julie @ A Life Exotic says
Agreed – love the Tresemme heat protection spray! They call it Heat Defence here in England but it looks like the same product. It mists on really lightly so it’s easy to comb through your whole head of hair without using too much.
Katie C says
I use Argon oil – you just need a tiny bit and it makes your hair smooth and soft too! I also am in the very fine hair club… my girlfriends who complain about their thick hair are insane.
Anita says
I’m all about “It’s a 10 Miracle Leave In”– it’s a heat protectant but it also makes your hair smell awesome and adds a little volume. 🙂
Nikki W says
I love Kenra’s thermal spray
Kyra says
I love the heat protectant Aveda makes (obviously not at Ulta), but I also really like Tresemme’s heat tamer spray.
Alicia says
Tresemme’s is awesome and cheaper than a lot of them! It smells great too! Can I ask a favor? when you post about your NTC workouts could you put what section they’re in? That way I can locate them and try them too?
kelsey says
“Hot off the press” by Paul Mitchell — amazing product!!
Beckie says
I use Tresemme’s heat spray! I have super fine hair and it doesn’t weigh it down at all!
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves says
I love quick and effective leg workouts so I’ll be sure to check out the NTC Beach Legs one! And ugh I need that salad. It looks so summery and refreshing.
I definitely recommend Tresemme Heat Protectant! I use it every time I blow dry my hair or curl it, and I have thin hair as well.
Linda @ running4two says
I have never used a heat protectant but I’m curious to know if everyone should use one. I have really thick hair so so I need one as much as you would? I look forward to reading about what you choose. 🙂
Mary Beth says
I swear by Pureology’s Heat Spray Product. Normally, I don’t spend this much on hair product, but since it’s a spray, I can make it last several months. This is the one I have used since December (and I’m only halfway through the bottle), and I’ve noticed a considerable difference in the health of my hair. (link below)
I would love to learn TRX. I’ve seen classes before, but they always start while I’m still at work. And my office actually invested in a TRX system. It comes with a book, but I’ll be honest … trying to maneuver while flipping a page around isn’t easy. HA! I wish gym classes would sell video memberships where I could plug into a class through my iPad and remotely participate. Wouldn’t that be great???

Gotta say I’d rather go to get my yearly checkup with a DR than going to a dentist. Probably because I’ve always had tons of fillings and uncomfortable needles 🙁
Abi@AbsofSteel says
that’s one pretty looking salad! Step ups to step back lunges are such an awesome leg move, awesomely painful of course.
Erin says
I second “hot off the press” by paul mitchell 🙂
Megan @ Meganmumbles says
Moroccan oil is the best thing I have done for my hair in a long time!
Marjorie says
That is my FAVORITE salad as well! So good! Waiting till the watermelon selection is a little better here in Georgia before I get it! I have recently started using the Moroccan oil heat protectant spray! I find it doesn’t make my blonde hair greasy looking (which can happen with the plain moroccan oil), but it still has the amazing smell of it! I don’t think you can buy their products at Ulta or Sephora, but many hair salons have it. It’s $28, but it’s a big spray bottle and will last you a while!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
I use just a little drop of Biosilk and LOVE it. It smells good, and makes my hair super soft, and it’s good for it!
Bryanna says
NTC is so awesome! I love that I can use it anywhere and I feel so accomplished after I complete one of the crazy workouts 🙂
Hanna says
I love those Nike training club workouts! So perfect for when you want more of a metabolic workout – I am always drenched in sweat after those ha!
I’ve used a Redken heat protectant that I love. Usually I’ll pair a heat spray with Moroccan oil (can’t live without moroccan oil)
Beks says
I use Got2B Guardian Angel. Protects up to 425 degrees, and adds a nice shine. I have super thick hair, and it’s awesome.
Celina @ My Cajun Trinity says
I use Aveda Damage Control before blowdrying, then light hairspray before curling or flat ironing.
Shel@PeachyPalate says
What did we ever do before the NTC training app! LOVE the dynamic kettlebell workout! Going to try Advanced Get Lean Transformer workout tomorrow!
Amanda says
I use the Redken brand of heat protectant. I asked my hair dresser for a recommendation last time I was there bc ever since I started parting my hair in the middle, I feel like I’m seriously frying it when I straighten!
Elizabeth {Positively Healthy} says
Your salad looks amazing! I am so going to have to try that combination! I have super thin hair as well, maybe I should look into a heat treatment as well?!
Chrissy @pinkpolishandrunningshoes says
I use the CHI heat heat protectant. I never used to use anything, but a hairdresser commented on how dry my hair was and asked if I was a swimmer! After I started using CHI it made a huge difference. I can tell my hair is a lot healthier now.
Lindsey says
it’s a 10!! leave in miracle product- heat protectant, plus 9 other hair helpers in one product!
love your blog!
Megan @ The Skinny-Life says
Watermelon on a salad sounds so refreshing. Will definitely keep that in mind for my climate in AZ!
Brittney @ Sweets 'N' Greens says
I love watermelon + avocado + arugala salads! A restaurant in my hometown makes the best ones!
Ellie@Fit for the soul says
Mmmm I still have yet to try your watermelon salad! It’s starting to warm up quickly in LA, so watermelon it is!
Dana says
Tresseme Thermal Creations is the best I’ve used! I know it’s highly recommended by a number of beauty bloggers too.
Ulta is doing their 21 day sale: 2 for $15 Butter London nail polishes today. It was such a steal, couldn’t resist.
Kim @FITsique says
The woman’s doctor!!! yuck!!! I will never ever ever feel comfortable there! And I hate when they try to have a conversation with you while they are doing their thing down there..its like just do it and be done!
Kristi says
I have incredibly fine hair as well and have started using John Frieda’s Frizz-Ease. I think it smells fantastic, so that’s a huge plus (and incentive to use it)!
tina posey says
This salad is amazing,I will try tomorrow morning!
Livi says
I love circuit workouts and the NTC app is perfect for coming up with new and fun workouts!
Jackie says
Be sure to share the protectant you buy, I have super fine hair too!
Amanda says
I’ve been meaning to try this salad since you wrote about it in the summer. I’ve gotta have it! I love Moroccan oil products for heat protection or the one from the brand Abba.
Samantha McCann says
That salad looks delicious! I’ve heard wonderful things about that combination for months now but have never gotten around to buying the ingredients for it… with it being the first day of spring today maybe I’ll get around to it sometime this week.
I’ve never used a heat protector either, but when I informed my hairdresser of this a week ago she was absolutely horrified haha. From her reaction I guess it does make a difference! I went out and bought one after that. I’ve been using Aussie’s hair insurance heat protectant, but I’m not sure if it’s any good just kinda picked it at random at Shopper’s Drug Mart.
Alex @ Alex Runs For Food says
ugh the dreaded women exam 🙂 Maybe once we have children it won’t be as awkward.
That salad looks amazing!!!! I really love arugula! I’ll be trying that!
Quincy H says
Okay so totally random, but did Leslie and Ross purchase that cross that they got married in front of? I am obsessed with that idea but don’t even know how to go about it!
