This week is going to be a little out of the norm for this girl because tomorrow I’m off to New York City and then at the end of the week, I’ll be in Boston.
Both trips are for blog-related events and my agenda is full, but I’m really looking forward to visiting two big cities, meeting new people and seeing some of my blogging friends.
I can’t wait!
I’ll be leaving for NYC tomorrow afternoon and will be spending time there for a Fitness Magazine Meet & Tweet blogger event on Wednesday.
I am actually speaking on a panel about blogging with the three amazing women behind these wonderful blogs: Kelly Olexa (she’s also the CEO of FitFluential!), MizFit and Carrots ‘n’ Cake. Public speaking always makes me a little nervous so I hope it goes well!
Actually big events like this often intimidate me because there are so many new faces and I always feel a little awkward introducing myself to people out of the blue. I just try to remind myself that everyone else is probably in a similar boat, right!?
I am also extra excited to head to NYC because I made dinner plans tomorrow night with Merri, one of my very best friends who moved there last year.
(Merri is in the middle in the above picture from my visit to see her in January!)
My trip to Boston is for an event with Reebok on Friday and I’ll be visiting the Reebok headquarters which has me super pumped.
I can’t wait to see what goes on behind the scenes at such a large company. The event is also supposed to include a Crossfit workout and I am anxious to give it a go. Ryan has been asking me to try out Crossfit with him for months now (we’re both very intrigued), but we haven’t just yet, so this will be a new adventure for me!
I hope I don’t collapse.
Lunch
Since I am going out of town this week, we didn’t load up on a ton of food for the week, so my lunchtime options were rather limited.
I ended up making myself a smoothie that included the following:
- 2 bananas (extra creamy!)
- 1 cup strawberry Greek yogurt
- 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 3/4 cup milk
Doubling up on the bananas makes smoothies so incredibly creamy.
That last picture is for my fellow Knights out there!
I also had some leftover roasted vegetables on the side.
Random, but it works!
Salsa Trio Recipes
Remember when I blogged about turning my kitchen upside down after playing with tomatoes to develop a recipe for Lipman Produce? I promised that I would share the salsa recipes with you guys when they were available and today is the day!
While I was asked to simply develop one tomato-based recipe, I wanted to have a little fun and ended up creating a salsa trio because I had too many different flavor combinations floating around in my brain and couldn’t reel them in.
You may now find the recipes for the three different salsas on the Lipman website along with a bunch of other delicious looking creations.
- Black Bean and Corn Salsa
- Mango Avocado Salsa (<— My favorite!)
- Fresh Salsa
Question of the Afternoon
- Have you ever tried Crossfit? Would you want to?
Amy says
sounds like such a fun trip!!
crossfit is definitely intense sometimes but i think you’ll like it. my only issue with it is sometimes i dont know how much weight to lift and dont feel comfortable doing certain things without a spotter (ive never been to a crossfit gym). but thats great you’ll actually do a class so they can help you…you’ll like it!
krystal@coffeecardiogoddess says
That smoothie sounds amazing I have never made one like that before. Have a great time on your trip!
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
My husband has been wanting to do CrossFit, but it’s a bit expensive. So I’ll be curious your thoughts. I think it would be an awesome workout … I’m just too cheap haha! 😉
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
While I’m slightly intrigued by Crossfit, I can’t say I’ve had a strong desire to try it out myself. It seems too intense & almost sort of competitive for me, which really isn’t my style. I’m interested to hear what your thoughts on it are!
Cindy @ The Flipping Couple says
You’ll love it! I started Crossfit a couple years ago and eventually dragged the hubs along with me. He’s never looked back. : ) Can’t wait to hear what you think!

I started CrossFit this past January as part of a New Year’s resolution to do something new. I was getting bored of my same old workout routine and wanted to be challenged in different ways.
Well I am now officially hooked! Many people complain about the cost of a CrossFit membership, but in my eyes it is TOTALLY worth it! For one, class sizes are usually limited to about a dozen people and you are always getting personal help/training/ etc. from your coaches. It does take a few classes, however, to get the swing of things as far as the way workouts are organized and general technique for certain lifts/moves.
Secondly, I’ve found that even if I am dreading a tough workout that’s been posted for the day, I know that when I go and actually do it, I leave feeling absolutely amazing and accomplished! I have completely surprised myself with what my body is capable of doing in just these past few months! I have found a new sense of confidence!
I think you and Ryan will actually really like CrossFit. I find that a lot of their workouts are similiar to circuits just a shorter list of moves. In which case, you generally will do an AMRAP workout, or as many rounds as possible in a set amount of time.
I feel like I am back on the playground sometimes, just playing on the monkey bars til my hearts content! 🙂 But what I am really doing is building my strength, stamina, and confidence!! I recommed CrossFit to anyone that likes to work out, and more importanly like a good challenge!
Lisa says
Yum, I love bananas in smoothies. Have you ever tried avocado in smoothies? It sounds weird, but is so good, makes it super creamy! I still have not tried crossfit, but really want to. Hopefully sometime this month!

Hey Julie!
Wow fun things ahead! NYC and Boston will be fabulous, can’t wait to see pics and read about it. 🙂
I am moving to NYC for the summer for an internship with Sarah Copeland, the former head baker at Food Network and now cookbook author. I am so excited! NYC has the best foodie spots. I plan to blog about my experience as the summer intern in the city.
PS 2 bananas is always a good idea hehe 😉
PSS go to STAND for a toasted marshmallow milkshake when you’re in the city, it is life changing.
Tara says
I have been wanting to try crosscut lately but haven’t found the right opportunity. I am kind of like you in that I feel pretty fit but am worried about totally getting my butt kicked!! Also, what kind of protein powder do you use?? I keep trying new ones but am never completely satisfied
Martha says
Hey Julie!
I did Crossfit once last year, it’s fun, but super hard. They help you through everything, but don’t focus much on form, so in the beginning take it slow and focus on that. While you’re here in Boston, definitely try out Stella in the South End, and the new restaurant Blu, Inc. has a Superhero brunch every weekend. I’ve been dying to try it. Safe Travels.
Stacie says
Oh I am so jealous you get to go to NYC! Have a fun and safe trip!
Stellina @ My Yogurt Addiction says
Your visiting my neck of the woods!!! How long will you be in Boston? I have been to the Rebok headquarters several times. It’s a realllly cool place, I think you’ll like it!! What is the event there, is it invitation only or did you sign up for something? I’d love to meet up if you’re around town, but I know you are probably going to be super busy.
Alicia says
Wow those salsa’s look amazing! Perfect for the summer, I can’t wait to try them out!
Jill @ A Cook's Nook says
I hope you love Boston & everyone treats you well! (I’m biased since I live here!)
Shay @ Whine Less, Breathe More says
Crossfit scares me, too. Can’t wait to hear how your experience with it goes.
Two great cities! I am jealous!
Athena @ Fitness & Feta says
I’m super jealous of the Reebok event!!! The HQ is literally 5 feet from where I work and I can tell you I would much rather be working out there than at my desk! I’ve yet to try CrossFit, mainly because I teach so many other fitness classes I don’t have time…but I’m also a little intimidated. Have fun!
Lauren says
SO jealous of your fabulous trips this week. I’ll be in Boston in a few weeks and I’m seriously counting down the days. Have a blast lady!
Katie says
I visited the Reebok headquarters earlier this year, very cool! Will you be working for them, or is it just a blog thing?
Kortney says
I’ve been doing crossfit for about 2 1/2 years and love it! They are circuit workouts that are different everyday and make your workout fly by. I also love that you can get your cardio and strength training in all at once. The workouts are timed, so it really helps push yourself to do your best and leave a sweaty mess! Depending on your WOD they have you do, I feel like until you have done it for a couple weeks it’s very easy to get nausas from the fast pace lifting and cardio mix. So don’t eat close to the workout, ive done it, no a smart move. Have fun, I hope you enjoy it! 🙂
Erika says
I do CrossFit three days a week and I love it. For me, it’s worth the cost. It comes out to about $8 per class. I would spend more on a Zumba class and the workout at CrossFit simply is more effective (for me at least) I always have butterflies in my stomach before I go. Mostly because I know I have to push myself and I am working out with others so there is a competitive side that comes out in me. (which I am not used to!) I do not get the type of workout in the gym that I get in CrossFit. It just doesn’t compare. Cannot wait to read your updates on the Fitness blogger event. You and Tina are my favorites!!
Elisabeth says
I’ve been doing Crossfit for about two years now, and I love it!!! I am completely in love with the short, intense workouts. The trainers are amazing, and the results are even better 🙂 I go to the West Hollywood BRICK crossfit. Honestly, even after running a half marathon (with the Nike Women’s half in October, too!) There is nothing that gets you prepared like Crossfit. I have tried to just work out at a normal gym, and I can’t seem to make myself go back 🙂
Annie says
i still go to a regular gym, as well as 3-4x/week crossfit classes, and i totally agree with you-crossfit is SO much better.
and i must add- i ran a 5k at the end of january without any training (other than my crossfit sessions), and i cut off 3 whole minutes from my fasted 5k time! it really does work 🙂
Sarah @ RunningChickago says
these salsas look sooo good! hope you have great trips this week!
Julie says
I haven’t tried CrossFit – it’s been on my list for a long time, but I’ve decided I’m not that into it right now.
Good luck on your adventures – seems like a lot but so much fun!
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
GO KNIGHTS!!
That is all 😉
Alex says
Hey Julie! I love your blog and all of the variety. I recently started a health and fitness blog (loved the post on starting a blog – quite helpful!). I added you to my blogroll and looking forward to reading more!
Dana says
Have a great time in NYC and Boston! I did a intro to Cross Fit class with my brother a few years ago when he was really into it, but it was before I seriously started working out and it was a bit over my head at the time. In the past few months I have found myself really wanting to give it another try. I don’t know how pricey it is in other cities, but her in New York it seems to be really expensive, which is the only thing holding me back 🙁
Mary @ food and fun on the run says
Woo hoo, Go UCF!!!
Brita says
No way! I live in Boston! Watch out for colder weather up here….but it’s such a fun city. Make sure you do some sight seeing!
Have fun 🙂
Kaycee says
I live in Boston and I love it! You’ll have plenty of fun, you lucky girl 🙂
Abby @ Change of Pace says
Sounds like a really great trip. Have fun!
Keri :) says
My roommate has her Level 2 certification for Crossfit, so I hear an OVERLOAD of Crossfit information! haha! But she just got a really sweet pair of Crossfit weight-lifting shoes from Reebok and already LOVES them! They are pretty cute too considering some of the other selections I’ve seen!
She is always trying to get me to come do “Gator Rampup” (which is the beginning class where they teach you all the Crossfit terms, etc) but the ONE thing I’ve found about Crossfit that I don’t like is….THE PRICE! It is SO DARN EXPENSIVE!!
Maura @ Running to Saks says
I’m also a Bostonian (okay well, I live across the river in Cambridge but anyway..) The weather will start to clear up by Friday! We’ve been having some cloudy, rainy days up here. A few of my good friends work at Reebok Headquarters. You are in for a treat!!
Kimberlee says
It was great hearing you speak at the #fitblognyc event today! I’ve always been passionate about writing and can write for days even if no one paid me. Although I wouldn’t be able to eat 🙂
Lipman says
Hi Julie! Thanks again for creating this salsa trio for us. It really turned out fantastic! Can’t wait to try them out at our next fiesta.
