Ryan and I tend to tackle annoying household chores on Sunday afternoons and I find that baking something and smelling the sweet smell of a homemade treat wafting from the oven makes scrubbing or vacuuming a little less miserable.
I don’t mind doing dishes nearly as much when I know that, in 12 short minutes, I’ll be biting into a warm, freshly baked cookie.
I made this batch of oatmeal peanut butter banana cookies last Sunday and wasn’t sure how they would turn out since I was experimenting a bit and was trying to make them relatively healthy by cookie standards.
As I placed the rounded balls of cookie dough on the baking sheet, I sampled my fair share of the dough and had high hopes when it tasted great.
Luckily the cookies ended up being nice and soft and packed with peanut butter and banana flavor.

If you make these, I hope you love them. At the very least, I can promise that you, or your very lucky dog, will enjoy “cleaning” the measuring cup that you filled with peanut butter.
looks delicious! thank you for sharing 🙂
Totally making these today… maybe now!
Do you have any ideas on substitutes for the sugar? Honey, agave, or molasses maybe?
Thanks!
I’m going to try making these with almond flour 🙂 Sound delicious!
Good thing the dough was in rounded balls and not square balls.
I have a very serious question. What kind of balls are not rounded?
A post with cookies and I see the measuring cup of peanut butter and want to just eat it up. Forget the cookies…pass me the pb jar. PB Finger style! 🙂
Had I been there when you made these, Sadie would have had to fight me for that measuring spoon. 🙂
Those look delicious!!
yum! oatmeal + banana + peanut butter all packed into a chewy cookie sounds perfect in my book! our pups will love licking the pb measuring cup too… they always lick my pb spoons. 🙂
Oatmeal cookies are the bomb diggity. Good idea to bake while scrubbing….. 🙂
Sadie is definitely a lucky girl 🙂
Thanks for posting these Julie, I have been waiting all week to try these! They are smelling fantasic baking right now 🙂
We do our annoying house hold chores on Sunday too, and then usually I make a mess again in the kitchen right after experimenting with recipes. This would make for a very unhappy bf if he didn’t get a cookie out of it! 🙂
oatmeal, peanut butter, AND banana?! Sounds like the perfect combination to me!
These look delish! I think they’d easily work vegan too since the only ingredient that has to be switched out is a flax egg for the egg.
Your cookies look delicious! I can’t wait to try them out!
These cookies look and sound delicious! I am totally going to make these once I have ripe bananas 🙂
I think I need to make a batch of those. Wait, I need to encourage my husband and kids to make ME a batch of those for Mother’s Day!
Hum they look so delicious! And I love the picture of Sadie licking peanut butter!
I once grossed someone out by saying that I let my dog lick a plate. They asked me if I threw it away after. Uh, no. It went in the dishwasher.
The Kidless Kronicles
I’ve been super into banana lately…and peanut butter just makes everything delish!
these sound delicious! oatmeal cookies are always my go-to when I’m trying to “healthify” a cookie recipe, and of course you can’t beat the peanut butter + chocolate combo 🙂
Delicious sounding recipe. Bananas and peanut butter are one of the best combos out there. They just belong together.
I’ll be trying these! I love that there isn’t two sticks of butter in them. As much as I love a good regular cookie full of butter, I really try to rotate with a healthier treat.
Btw, I suggest audiobooks for making house cleaning (or any chore) more fun. I let my body go on autopilot and my mind wander. This weekend I’ll be cleaning the house with Harry Potter. 🙂
I am making these as soon as I have access to an oven again!
Also, did you stay in The Helmsley while you were in New York? (I ask because of the Bryant Park photos.) I was staying there for work Monday-Wednesday. I would have died if I ran into you in the lobby!!
This sound delicious. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
Ever since you mentioned these cookies I’ve been looking forward to this recipe, and it defintiely did not disappoint! Sounds wonderful – can’t wait to try it out!!
These look amazing! I’ve been waiting for the recipe!
They look perfect! I’ve been craving some hearty type of cookie with wholesome ingredients~this makes me ravenous…haha
made something so similar last sunday too! great minds think alike, right?!
Yummy! I will be trying these!
Yum! These cookies combine some of my favorite ingredients. Thanks for sharing, Julie!
so much peanut butter! i’m thinking i need to make these 🙂
i happen to have some overripe bananas so this is perfect! i like watching my dog eat peanut butter he really struggles with the stickiness in his mouth haha
These look amazing Julie! 🙂
these look delish! I love baking on the weekends – there’s something so lovely about the smell of fresh baked goods on a leisurely day off 🙂
Mmm…! Such a yummy combo! I love pb and banana together 🙂
I have a recipe similar to this. I love this combination. And I find that when people hear there are bananas in it, they automatically think it’s healthy! 🙂 I like to believe that too.
These look awesome. I love any type of oatmeal cookie. I’m printing as we speak!
I ended up making these tonight and they turned out amazing. I added some chopped pecans and it was a great bite of crunch. Thanks for sharing this!
I made these today and they’re delicious! However, mine aren’t nearly as solid as yours look, and I even added another 1/4 cup of flour since the dough was so liquidy. I used natural peanut butter, so maybe that made a difference? In any case, great recipe! I will definitely make these again!
oh gosh, yes, i don’t think natural pb would work w/o adding more flour! i used traditional pb which is much thicker. i’m glad you were able to salvage the recipe!! phew!
I made these into bars, added chocolate chips and topped the bars with roasted strawberries. 🙂 Wow! Great, great recipe – thanks!
I noticed that I had a bunch of over ripe bananas and decided to make these today! I can confirm they are awesome. Now I need someone to give some away to so I don’t eat them all myself!
My daughter was having a study group at our house so I decided to make these as a healthier snack/treat. They were a big hit and one person said they tasted like Clif bars. I just scrolled through comments when I went to write this and saw that someone who used all natural pb added extra flour. I should have done that as mine were a bit “goopy” (great right out of the fridge though!). I think next time I would make some oatmeal flour to add in. And there will be a next time!!
I made these last night and added chocolate chips. Delicious!!!
