The smoothie I initially had planned for breakfast popped up around lunchtime!
In today’s smoothie bowl:
- 1 c. almond milk
- 1 scoop chocolate protein powder (Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey)
- 1 c. frozen strawberries
- 1 1/2 tbsp. cocoa powder
- 1 tsp. xanthan gum
- 1 handful fresh spinach
In case you want to cram in all the smoothies you can in the next month or so before the cooler weather sets in, here are some of my favorite smoothie recipes:
- Banana Mocha Protein Shake
- Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Smoothie Bowl
- Extra Chocolaty Smoothie Bowl
- “Ice Cream” Smoothie
- Mocha Green Monster
- Peanut Butter Cup Smoothie
- Piña Colada Protein Smoothie
- Pumpkin Pie Protein Smoothie
- Strawberry Banana Smoothie
- Thin Mint Green Monster
I also had a microwavable quesadilla on the side of my smoothie bowl.
This fast lunch served as good fuel for some puppy playtime in the backyard.
Isn’t my coworker such a cutie?
And speaking of coworkers, I thought this might be a fun little topic…
Office Romances!
Have you ever had a crush on a coworker or dated someone you worked with?
My high school boyfriend and I were lifeguards together, but he got the job after I already worked there, so our relationship didn’t originate in the work place.
I love watching office romances blossom (is that creepy?) and quite a few office romances popped up around me at my last workplace.
I remember asking Ryan to weigh in on one relationship I was convinced was forming at an office Movember party we attended. (<—Whoa! Throwback post!) Ryan said he definitely thought there was something between the couple I pointed out. A few weeks later, I saw them kissing in the parking garage! Caught!
Question of the Afternoon
- Have you ever discovered an office romance between two coworkers?
- Have you ever had your own office romance?
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
Ooohh thanks for the smoothie round-up!
My boyfriend and I were in the same class in college – does that count as an office romance? 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
haha it’s not quite as scandalous… but it’s cute!
Alysha @ShesOnTheRun.com says
That happened to me too 🙂 We had “study dates” and everything. Ah, college…
Cait's Plate says
This is so funny because my co-workers and I were JUST talking about this at lunch! It seems to be a fairly common occurrence in the agency world because you’re working so many hours and it’s a lot of young people, a lot of happy hours, work dinners, etc. But definitely not so much where I work. It would be fun to have my own Jim/Pam thing going on! Would make day to day life much more interesting!
Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) says
No office romances, but classmate romances for sure! Already we’ve had 4 serious relationships form between classmembers last year, one that concluded in a WEDDING this summer! That’s right– met, dated, engaged, and married in less than a year. We’ve also had several pregnancy drop-outs.
Professional school is weird!!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
In my small company (60 ish employees) there are 4 office marriages! It’s almost incestuous.
peanutbutterfingers says
whoa that’s crazy!!
Stephanie says
Pretty sure at my former company, two of the executives were having an affair. They would come in for work at like 10am, leave together for 2 hours around 11:30, then go home for the day around 3pm. Right before I quit, she started to look a little rounder in the midsection, too! Whenever they were at the office, they were in one of their 2 offices, door shut. It made for an awesome rumor mill!
peanutbutterfingers says
holy scandal!
Alexa @ SImple Eats says
I actually met my current boyfriend at work! He is a year younger than me and is in med school now, but he was actually working for me when he still worked here 🙂
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
oh my goodness gracious. my first job out of college was managing a restaurant, and I had to field a budding “romance” between a busboy and a waitress. it was obnoxious.
(and by romance, we’re talking top secret activities in broom closets.)
Marissa @ Meeses Pieces says
awww..my bf and i met at a job together almost 6 years ago and we’re still together!!! =)
peanutbutterfingers says
yay! ryan and i are going to a wedding for two of his former coworkers that met at work next year! 🙂
Sara says
lol cool they met in the future! 😀 that made me giggle, thanks julie!
Sara @ The Foodie Diaries says
I’ve never witnessed an inter office romance, BUT when I was a junior in college I was taking a Psych class with my best friend Chelsea. We sat behind this couple who sat together every single day. The next semester we took another Psych class and the couple was in our class again, except it appeared to us that they broke up because instead of sitting together like the usually did every day the semester before, they sat on oppsoite sides of the room. It was hilarious to watch! Chelsea and I would sit in the back of the room and they would sneak glances at each other, or we’d watch as one pulled out their phone texted something and the others phone would vibrate. It was like our own little psych experiment in our psych class 😉
peanutbutterfingers says
that would amuse me WAY too much!
Laura says
My boyfriend of 3 1/2 years and I both worked at the same cafe together. He was interested in me and I definitely wanted no part of that at first. HA! He was pretty (VERY) persistent though, and now we live together!
Girl In The Pink says
In middle school we found out two {married} teachers were hooking up…! We thought it was just a rumor but years later we found out they divorced and then got married to eachother!!
I’ve never had an office romance myself though!
peanutbutterfingers says
whoa!! that happened w/ two of ryan’s former coworkers, too. SCANDAL!
Shanna, Like Banana says
Where I work there are TON of marriages…it’s kinda creepy 😉
I had a HUGE crush on someone I worked with before here..we may or may not have had a little something for awhile, but when it ‘ended’ it was awkward
Kelly @ Not So Rocky Road says
Too funny on the timing of this post! A coworker is dating our boss. Thought I was okay with it but I’m just not sure. They do make a good couple. It hasn’t come out officially to the office yet but I am friends with her outside of work, which is why she told me & couple other ladies. We already had already been speculating anyways. Just not sure how I feel about it though, keep going back & forth. Especially since she stood me up at the gym yesterday.
peanutbutterfingers says
anyone dating the boss is always a strange situation… i’d love to hear from someone who dated or married their boss! anyone???
Janey says
That would be me. 🙂 My now husband was my boss at our old company. We liked each other from the start but didn’t date for the first couple of years. How awkward if it wasn’t mutual! But it was okay with our co-workers since I was the only employee in my specific department.
But eventually we got together and have now been happily married for over 6 years! We both left our old company and now work for rival companies to boot. 🙂
Mari@BFF says
Me too. I had a huge crush on my dreamy boss Jay (and apparently he had a crush on me) and always felt that there was something there but we never did anything about it and always kept it professional. I moved into another dept where I was able to work with Jay instead of for him and we got along so well! Months later a mutual acquaintance invited us to a get-together and we finally were able to get to know each other. We dated for about 6 months before actually telling any of our co-workers, though most were surprised a few did speculate we were dating- I guess our eyes would light up a bit whenever the other would walk into the conference room/building/office. Almost 3 years later, we’re planning our October 2012 wedding!!
peanutbutterfingers says
aw! congrats on your engagement, mari! and janey, congrats on a wonderful, happy marriage!
Tara @ Chip Chip Hooray says
My cousin met his now-fiancee (!!) at his office–she actually interviewed him! They both still work at the same company, carpool to work together, and eat lunch together every day. Thankfully, now that they’re, um, engaged, they don’t have to keep their office romance secret anymore. 🙂
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Haha I think you have a crush on your office co-worker! Sadie is such a catch 😉
peanutbutterfingers says
you know i do. 🙂
Catherine 'T' says
I do too!!! Sadie…not Julie…no offense!!! 😉
Brittany *Sparkles* says
That’s where I met my current BF of two years 🙂
I briefly met him when I had to run to the factory in a different building for parts and he showed me around his quality lab while I was waiting. The next Monday he made up some excuse to come to a meeting in MY building so that he could casually stumble by my desk and ask me to show him good restaurants in the area… later learned this was all planned, clever clever man!!
I wouldn’t let him tell anyone at the company we were dating until he transferred to a different program though — hate office gossip!
Karen says
OHH YES!! I had an office romance!! My now husband *of one month!* and I met on the set of CANADIAN IDOL. We both worked on the show, me as the directors assistant and him in the production camera side and we are now married!!
Our wedding was even features on a blog! http://www.valleyandcoblog.com/2011/08/married-sweet-love-in-barn.html
Sweet and Savvy says
It was definitely a smoothie day for me too!
I think office romances are alright.. as long as they act cool and professional at work. No PDA, please!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I used to intern at the law office and there always seemed to be an office romance between the youngest lawyer (there were only 3… the other 2 were married to each other), and whoever the secretary was! Haha, he was a cutie! I had a question about your protein powder, have you ever tried it in baked goods? Like pancakes or anything like that ? Because I buy the same kind and I tried mixing it into oats once and it went very very badly…
peanutbutterfingers says
i haven’t used the above mentioned brand in baking, but i have used all the whey brand protein powder and it worked really well.
Tracy @ Tracy's Treats says
Yep! I met my last serious boyfriend working together with him. And I also knew another couple who met at the same place!
Trainer Kjirsten @ Balanced Healthy Life says
I’ve never had my own office romance but love finding out about others in a relationship! I think office romances are just so cute!!!
Anna says
I met my husband when I started working at a movie theater in high school. We worked together for 3 years before we started dating.
Carrie says
My husband and I met at our workplace. The standing joke of the nonprofit where we worked was if you started single, you would end up married. If you were married, you would have kids asap. They even hand out onesies with the nonprofit logo on them. =)
Paula @ Eat: Watch: Run says
I am IN an office romance! I met my hubs at work and we are still working at the same place 9 years later.
I swear cupid works here because there are a ton of couples who met here and got married. It’s the office “hook ups” that are the interesting ones. Not the romances. LOL
Natalie @ Will Jog For Food says
I had an office romance about 5 years ago… we were always flirting and then finally went on a few dates. But it fizzled out pretty quickly, haha. Lucky is wasn’t awkward afterwards 🙂
Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups says
My boyfriend and I started as an office romance, although I don’t know if you’d even call it that. We both worked for a huge employer (they employ 65,000 people in our town). We worked in completely separate divisions, never had any overlap and never even saw each other during the workday. About nine months after we started dating, I left the company for a new opportunity and then almost a year later, he also left for a new opportunity. So now neither of us even work there. But two years later, we’re still going strong!
Tami says
I was a student worker in an office in college and I started dating someone who also works in the office ( he was not a student). We dated in secret for 3 months!!!!!!! And have been married for 11 years……professor student relationships happen a lot more than people think!!!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Wow, look at that crazy good intuition you’ve got! 🙂 Can’t say I’ve ever been involved in one myself but I do know several people in the company I work for whose other halves work here as well. Not sure if I’d like that for myself, but I think office romances definitely make for good entertainment!
Chloe (In Fine Feather) says
My current boyfriend and I met at work, but we didn’t start dating until he left for school. Of course there was lots of flirting involved – but for some reason people are still surprised to find out we’re together!
Ciara says
At my previous job, two of my bosses were friendly enough at work, but the woman would bad mouth him and always say how bad of a director he was, how he had horrible leadership, etc. She left not too long before I did, and about 6 months later I found out they started dating! They are now living together and it looks like they are very happy. It’s just weird how it seemed like she hated him for the longest time!
Krissie J says
I did once and it didn’t work out at all. I lost interest and it fizzled for me but not so much for him? I decided to go on a different path in science and found a new (and better) job elsewhere and after that we didn’t communicate anymore.
Faith @ For the Health of It says
Heheheheh this is hilarious 😀
My intern (at my last job, obvs) and I had a thing going…we thought we had it well under wraps until one of my coworkers picked up on it and then made a HUGE stink every time we went off on a field trip together. Le sigh. I was actually thinking about him today when I told Jensen a random story about when I worked there. Funny, funny stuff!
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
I think the office is a great place to meet people. With that said, though, it’s probably super awkward if you break up. Still, I think it’s cute. I mean, Jim and Pam, anyone?? lol
Ashley@MyFoodNFitnessDiaries says
My boyfriend that I had early on in college was an “office romance” if you want to call it that considering we both worked as swim instructors at a pool. It made it fun going into work everyday, but it had its challenges too! I bet it was fun for our co-workers to watch it all come about. Ha!
Lauren says
I married my office romance almost a year ago 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
YAY! 🙂
Lindsay @ biking before bed says
My boyfriend and I met at work… but are thankfully not in the same office building. Everytime I go over to eat lunch with him we get so many comments about the “love birds.” He works with all guys so it cracks me up… they are worse than a bunch of old gossiping women!
I am on the same page with the smoothies. I have had one every day this week to beat the heat!
Andrea says
I dated a guy for a while at my old job. Needless to say it did not turn out well at all. It is tough to see someone all day long every day and then try to spend quality time together after work and NOT discuss work related topics. I am sure some people make it work but I was NOT one of them. And working with someone day in and day out after a break up is terrible. So I warn all you people out there to think about how awkward the break up would be before you jump in!
natalie @ southern fit foodie says
At the school where I teach we have some marriages (they happened prior to coming here though), but at my old job in college……oh man were there some interesting and scandalous relationships that popped up. One was top secret because it was between a manager and a “regular’ employee, which breaks policy. Everyone knew about it, and it was hilarious to watch them at work trying to pretend there wasn’t anything going on (ESPECIALLY when they were arguing about something). Comical to say the least. There were also hookups and breakups, as well as pregnancies and marriages. Needless to say – it was never boring!
Ruthie Hart says
yes!!!!!!! that is how I met my husband!!! I was the sales intern at the company he worked for and a romance quickly sparked. We would sneak off to lunch together in hopes of no one seeing and even had our first kiss in his office! Turns out everyone in our office was so happy for us (and claimed they knew!). We worked together all through our engagement and both got new jobs after we got married. It was pretty darn scandalous the more I think of it since I was underage (and we were going to office happy hours!) but hey it was worth it!!
lauren @ Life's Better With Freckles says
When I was in high school, there were rumors of a student (male) hooking up with a teacher (female). It turned out that they were true because they got married and had a kid a few years later. NUTS! I also think my bosses are hooking up and it creates some interesting office gossip…and awkward third wheel situations. 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
teacher + student!? illegal!?!?! how long did they wait to get married?
lauren @ Life's Better With Freckles says
I know right? It was a few years later, although I think they are divorced now. She was like 10 years older than he was! Everyone suspected that it was going on, but I guess they couldn’t prove anything and they didn’t date “officially” until he was out of school. Everyone talked about it -it was quite the scandel for a small town in TN!
Lori says
My now fiance and I started dating while working at the same place. We were close friends prior to working together, so the romance really didn’t start because we worked there, but I thought it was nice to see how we got along in a busy work setting. When I tell people we worked together at the start of our relationship, so many say “I could NEVER work with my significant other!” and I think that’s just sad. It is stressful situations like those that make me confident that we can work together even when we don’t agree and we can be a good team – which makes me confident that we will be great spouses even when things get tough in our marriage.
Colleenzo says
We had a torrid office affair at my work! New girl joined the company, started canoodling with a (married!) employee….she broke off her engagement, he divorced his wife. Our department head had to have a talk with them about not taking vacations at the same time or planning business trips together. He eventually quit and moved back to his hometown about 2 hours away, and now she’s *sick* every other Monday….visiting him we’re sure.
peanutbutterfingers says
whoaaa. that’s nuts.
Colleenzo says
Yeah, she’s my boss now, too! Which makes me feel a lot less guilty about the occasional *cough* “sick” day I take here and there!
Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled says
My now husband and I worked together for 1.5 years before we started dating. He was married and I was engaged, so we never pursued anything (heck, we barely talked to each other). But once we were both “free”, we started dating. Now we’ve been married for 4 months and I couldn’t be happier. Sometimes they do have happy endings.
Lisa says
I met my now Hubby at work (in lake Mary (ahhhh miss fl)) It was scanadslous because I had a boyfriend at the time. Also, there was a large group of us that hung out outside of work so it got a little weird. Were married and have two littles now, so I guess it worked out.
Katherine says
Haha I love that you caught that couple!
I went on a “date” with a coworker once- really he just asked me to lunch and I agreed. In the car ride back to the office, he asked me if I wanted to get dinner sometime. I hastily said yes, and then once I slept on it, realized that I did NOT want to go down that road. I had just gotten out of a long and terrible relationship, so having to deal with awkwardness at work was not what I was looking for.
I wound up telling him the next day that I was not over my ex (true at the time), and he completely understood and thanked me for being honest. All is well that ends well. We remained friends for a while, but we have since lost touch now that he no longer works at my company.
Leslie says
Yes! I love this!
I am currently in a 3 year long office romance. Although, my last day is on Friday. Things are about to change big time for us! We commute to and from work every single day. We actually just had our last lunch as co-workers together today. Awww. It’s never been a secret at my office though because it’s not something that’s restricted. Did you know John and Sherry on YHL met at work??
Alicia says
I met my hubby at big kahunas – I was a lifeguard & he was my supervisor ha! Definite no no…until the end of summer 🙂
By the way, what type/brand of protein do you recommend? I was a light version w/o tons of calories, fat or carbs! Thanks 🙂
Pamela @girlgonewestblog.com says
OMG, I had the HUGEST crush on a former coworker. Wouldn’t you???

I met my husband at work. We got together right after I filed for divorce which was a little scandulous but quite a few people knew things were not working with my ex. There weren’t any rumors (that I know of!) and we kept it on the DL for awhile. We even worked in the same office but now we work in different offices but in the same company.
We were one of the first couples to get together in our group of friends at the bank. Two couples followed and they both got married before us. One already has a baby!
Stefanie-Anne says
Yup! At my last job a cute boy from California started working for us and we ended up dating for 8 months. It was a small company and I’m a very private person when it comes to talking about dating with my co-workers so at times it was stressful. Though in the end everyone knew even if they wouldn’t say anything. When you both go on vacation to California for the same dates it’s pretty obvious lol! I’m glad I ‘went for it’ but completely lucked out b/c by the time we broke up we had both changed jobs.
What I wonder is if anyone has survived an office break-up. I feel like that would be incredibly difficult!
