Today I am teaming up with Blue Diamond to share some of my favorite on-the-go snacks as part of our summer partnership. Below you will find a handful of simple, (mostly) healthy and delicious snacks that can easily be prepared ahead of time and packed in a beach bag or your purse for a tasty grab-and-go snack when you need it most.
- Trail Mix
This snack is always a favorite! It doesn’t require refrigeration and lasts for quite a while without going bad. Playing around with your favorite ingredients is the key to creating your favorite trail mix, but here are a few yummy combinations:
Tropical Trail Mix: Chopped Dried Mango + Unsweetened Coconut Flakes + Blue Diamond Toasted Coconut Almonds or Whole Natural Almonds + Plantain Chips or Banana Chips
Chocolate Lovers’ Trail Mix: Blue Diamond Dark Chocolate Almonds + White Chocolate-Covered Mini Pretzels + Chocolate-Covered Cranberries
Sweet Lovers’ Trail Mix : Kettle Corn + Blue Diamond Butter Toffee Almonds/Whole Natural Almonds/Cinnamon Brown Sugar Almonds/Honey Roasted Almonds + Dried Cranberries + Yogurt-Covered Raisins
- Whole Wheat Tortilla Roll Ups
Smear your favorite nut butter on top of a whole wheat tortilla, add a freshly sliced banana, apple or peach and a sprinkle of cinnamon before rolling it up and taking it to go!
- Dry Roasted Edamame with Blue Diamond Smokehouse Almonds
If you’re someone who gravitates toward salty, savory snacks, I think this one may be right up your alley. It’s crunchy and satisfying thanks to the protein and healthy fats and the smokehouse almonds add a serious punch of flavor.
These bite-size treats are simple to make and do not included any added butter or oil. All of the flavor comes from the banana!
- Fresh Fruit or Carrot Sticks with Almond Butter or a Handful of Nuts
Fruit is nature’s grab-and-go snack! Throwing an apple, a bag of grapes or a banana in your purse with a small baggie of Blue Diamond Whole Natural or Lightly Salted Almonds will allow you to have a healthy snack at your disposal at all times. Slicing an apple or pear ahead of time (squeeze a little lemon juice on the fruit to keep it from browning) and packing it with a bit of your favorite nut butter in a Tupperware container is a great way to have a dip-able snack on hand that tastes great and will leave you satisfied.
These bars are easy to whip up and don’t require the use of an oven – a big-time bonus in the summer! You can easily customize them by using your favorite add-ins! Some of my favorite additions: Coconut flakes, unsweetened dried fruit, chopped Blue Diamond Oven Roasted No Salt Almonds and mini chocolate chips.
- Homemade Granola
By making your own granola, you control the ingredients and can reduce the amount of sugar you might find in store-bought granola. Add homemade granola to your favorite trail mix, sprinkle it on top of a piece of wheat bread topped with a sliced banana and peanut butter or just eat it by the handful! My favorite recipes: Peanut butter granola + Almond butter granola
- Kale Chips
Toss fresh kale in olive oil and your favorite seasonings, bake at 300 degrees until crisp and allow to cool. Place the chips in a baggie and pack ‘em up! Here’s a must-try recipe from my friend Brittany: Spicy and Cheesy Kale Chips
Question of the Morning
- What is your favorite snack to enjoy when you’re on the go?
I’ve always been a fan of trail mix, fresh fruit and almonds.
aladygoeswest says
I usually stick to little bags of almonds and apples as an on-the-go snack. However, I just started dipping apples slices in Greek yogurt, and that’s pretty tasty too. I always have something to eat with me, just in case hunger strikes. Love the colorful snacks!
Katie @ happygokatie says
Two thumbs up for this post! If one thing is lacking variety when I pack my lunches it is my snacks. I will bring almonds or a piece of fruit, maybe some veggies and hummus – but honestly it gets a little boring after awhile. Thank you so much for sharing these and I’ll definitely be stealing a few. Gotta love that the granola bars are no bake 🙂
Julie says
Thanks for commenting, Katie! 🙂
Annie @ What's Annie Making says
Oh my gosh! The Blue Diamond coconut almonds are so good, but so dangerous!!! I think I could eat the whole container in one sitting. I love trail mix and granola/protein bars for on the go snacks. I’m definitely going to try that edamame combo. Looks so tasty!
Julie says
You and me both! So addicting!
dillowa1 says
My favorite on the go snack is definitely fruit with nuts or nut butter. It is easy and I can toss it in my bag and go. But I also love veggies and hummus, yogurt and hard boiled eggs. My recent favorite snack to make at home are energy balls – so many flavor combos and so fun to snack on!
Jaclyn @ Bumpsweat says
Some awesome snack ideas here! I’m a huge fan of fruit & almonds and homemade lara bars (which are basically fruit & almonds in bar form lol) when I need a quick, take-along snack
Almost Getting It Together says
I actually typically pack a sandwich and a baked sweet potato with yogurt and nut butter because I’m not a big fan of snacking and would rather have a meal planned out!
Michelle Hunt (@PeachyPalate) says
Banana and nut butter…always keep a jar in the car for dunking!
Katie says
The trail mixes and granolas look really yummy, but I always worry about how many calories and sugar are in my snacks, so I just plain avoid them 🙁 How do you maintain a balance??
Julie says
If you make your own, you can control the level of sweetness/sugar in the recipes. 🙂 for trail mix, if I use dried fruit, I tried to use the kind that isn’t sweetened. I will also try to have more nuts/seeds than fruits in trail mix because that generally keeps me more satisfied.
Anele @ Success Along the Weigh says
Excellent ideas! I’m horrible about bringing healthy snacks on the road. I did grab Trader Joe’s Peanut Butter Oat bars for last weekend’s road trip and they were a big hit but they’re also tempting. I like the roll up idea for sure!
Dana @ The Daily Moderation says
There’s so many to choose from! I always have a Luna bar in my bag. Also I adore dried fruit- mainly cranberries and apricots! And almonds , dry roasted and unsalted, are my fav!
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
Trail mix is one of my favorites. It’s easy to put into a bag, it doesn’t require utensils, and it’s not messy.
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
Mmm kale chips are the best! I also love apples + almond butter. So good!
Amanda @ Running By Day says
My favorite is trail mix! Because I like the sweet and salty combo of nuts and fried fruit 🙂
Julie says
Sweet + salty is the best 🙂
erinsinsidejob says
For a non messy, on the go snack, I will usually grab a bunch of Lara bars or Chia bars. My favorite snack that is not as easily transportable is homemade almond butter with medjool dates. By themselves, I find snacking on dates to be too sweet, but the combination of the almond butter and dates balances it out perfectly. I have a serious problem and sometimes purposefully don’t make any more almond butter because I know I’ll eat it all!!
thefaithfulrunner says
Honestly, when I’m taking snacks with me, I just opt for some carrots, strawberries with honey, or mixed nuts. Nice and simple, but I’m LOVING your recipes!
Kim @ Hungry Healthy Girl says
Love Blue Diamond Coconut flavored almonds… perfect paired with an apple for a healthy on the go snack!
Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne says
Love the trail mix, chocolate lover’s trail mix, kale chips, and roasted edamame!! I love having raw almonds, mixed with some coconut and dark chocolate, just makes the soul happy 🙂
Sarah says
I love trail mix! Chocolate Lovers and sweet lovers – yes! However, I’ve got to portion it out or I’ll eat the whole thing! Yum! I’ve never thought about almonds and roasted edamame…YUM!
Julie says
You and me both! Trail mix can easily morph into a meal for me! It’s just too addicting. 🙂
Linz says
apples, nuts, or bars!
Rachel @ Blonde with a Chanse says
These all look so good! I am normally terrible at remembering to bring snacks, so my own the go snacks are generally just fruits because I don’t have to do much thinking ha.
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
oooh I want to try those butterscotch bites! I’m always looking for new snacks. I work from home and I need healthy stuff that I can grab from the pantry– instead of the bag of chocolate chips, haa whoops 😉
Leslie @ Life Begins at 30? says
I have been getting the Nature Box snacks and they are fantastic. I love these options as well!! Making your own trail mix and granola is a brilliant idea! Bonus-you don’t have to pick out the stuff you don’t like. 🙂
Julie says
Nature Box is great!!
Natalie @ Never Serious Blog says
How have I NEVER thought of putting kettle corn in a trail mix?! *FACEPALM* I will be whipping that one up immediately! I’m such a sucker for variations of classic sweet and salty trail mix. SO yummy!
And you really can’t go wrong with good ol’ apple & nut butter combo, always hits the spot!
Laura @ She Eats Well says
Both of those trail mixes would be gone in my house within a day – so addicting and delicious! My favorite on the go snacks are turkey jerky, apple + almond butter, crispy seaweed, and occasionally Larabars.
Julie says
Turkey jerky and crispy seaweed are favorites of mine, too! I actually had jerky on my list of snacks to include in this post and totally forgot. 🙂
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables says
Ahhh I’m hungry and I forgot my snacks at home! I want to eat ALL of these! I love keeping some trail mix at my desk for times like this 🙂
Sky @ The Blonde In Black says
These are some really great ideas! If I don’t have snack on-the-go I get hangry real fast! One of my favorite snacks to have on hand during school is to slice up an apple and sprinkle it with cinnamon. Throw in a bag and enjoy it during class. It keeps me full and satisfies my sweet tooth.
Amy says
Looking at your pics have made me hungry. I’m currently on my way downstairs to raid the cupboards!
Great ideas by the way, glad I stopped by today.

Those banana bread oatmeal bites look amazing!
My energy balls and energy bites on my blog are my go-to healthy and quick snacks! Easy to mix up, roll into balls, and freeze!

You’re a girl after my own heart with all the trail mix combos! Thanks for including my kale chips. 🙂
Julie says
Of course!!
joelle @ on a pink typewriter says
Mmmmm, I love trail mix and especially almonds mixed with cashews!
Chrissy @ Pink Polish and Running Shoes says
I’m a big fan of the whole wheat roll ups. I love to put almond butter, sliced strawberries and a handful of chocolate granola in them.
kellyscleaneatsblog says
I am SO into carrot sticks and nut butter these days. It’s a little excessive. Great post!
Polly - TastyFoodProject.com says
Those oatmeal bites looks delicious! I like snacking on nuts or berries when I’m on the go!
emilyrockstheroad says
A combo of fruit and nuts always successfully quells the snackie munchies for me. If I try and go the granola bar route, even with the healthy, high-protein ones, I just get more hungry. My favorite is an apple with almonds or almond butter!
Caitlin @ Happy 'n' Hungry says
My favorite grab ‘n’ go snack is definitely a tossup between a banana or homemade trail mix. Maybe both for a breakfast on the run?
Sara says
I really want to begin making my own granola bars. It looks so simple and delicious. Plus I love knowing what I am putting into my body!
melaniem49 says
Thank you so much for this post! I always get stuck on what healthy snacks to pack when I’m out and about. I usually just bring some nuts in a small container or a granola bar, but that gets so boring! These sound great!
talklesssaymor says
I’m all for fruit, bars and trail mix! Just something that’s super easy to transport, keeps me satisfied and is delicious (of course)! 🙂
Kayla Hoffman says
Every single thing on here is entirely my favorite. Except the cheesy kale chips. I made them and was sooooo sick all night and the next day. I am sure I did something wrong. 🙁 I still love kale chips, but other flavors!
Casey @ Casey the College Celiac says
All of these look absolutely delicious! I wish I hadn’t just got back from a 10 day roadtrip – all of these would’ve been perfect! What I did munch on was a lot of fruit, overnight oats made in the hotel rooms, homemade granola and corn tortillas with meat, greens, and avocado. YUM!
The Silent Assassin says
First time reader and commenter… The Butterscotch Banana Bread Oatmeal Bites looks amazing. Thanks for this. I’m gonna try it for sure!

You should try the Blue Diamond wasabi almonds mixed with edemame!
Julie says
I bet that would be fabulous!
Kari says
I love making my own trail mix. Usually I’ll throw in almonds, some dried fruit, sunflower seeds, and dark chocolate chips (the most important thing). So good!
runninginscrubs says
I love eating the individual Justin’s almond butter packets and Kind bars.
markmymiles says
I absolutely love trail mix but can’t keep my hand out of the bag.
Haley @Cupcakes and Sunshine says
trailmix is always my go-to snack! Love these mixes!
Angela says
ACK! On your trail mix picture I thought there was a tarantula in the bowl! LOL…so funny!
My favorite on the go snack is nuts and seeds. I play a game with myself to bite each one into their natural halves and then put one on each side of my mouth. It keeps me busy but also keeps me from eating too much!
