We’ve had a good one over here so far. It’s felt like a much-needed work-focused week for me because Chase and Ryder are in camp this week. This is their first (and only) camp of the summer and having the two big kids off enjoying time with friends through lunchtime every day is giving me all of Rhett’s morning nap to dedicate to work. It’s reminding me, yet again, how much I enjoy blogging and the time I get to spend working on this space.
So what’s been going on around here? This weekend was awesome because we spent it with my friend Merri and her husband Andrew!

Merri and Andrew got married the exact same day I gave birth to Rhett last year and I actually watched their wedding via Zoom from the hospital. (I will never forget texting with my friends who were also Zooming in to make sure my video camera was off because I was most definitely topless and attempting nursing — haha!) Let’s just say our time together was looong overdue.
Merri has met Chase and Ryder before but this was her first time meeting Rhett and he absolutely loved her!
Rhett isn’t one to typically crawl all over strangers and is in a phase where he generally prefers Mom over everyone so it was awesome to see him really gravitate toward Merri and love on her so much. As for how we spent our time together, on Friday morning, Merri requested a workout and I was more than happy to bring her along to Burn Boot Camp!

She actually came to Burn with me during a visit to Charlotte years ago and I loved having her sweating along side me again!
We filled the rest of our time together with some outside adventures — paddle boarding, neighborhood walks, a trip to my father-in-law’s apartment pool and boating!
Andrew joined our crew after his golf tournament on Saturday night and we were happy to learn that he’s a lake-loving guy. Chase teamed up with him and Ryan teamed up with Ryder for paddle boarding while Merri and I stayed back with a sleeping Rhett and they all returned bright eyed and excited about their adventure. I worried they might be too tired for the day of boating we had planned but the boys rallied… right up until Ryder passed out.
When we asked Ryder if he wanted to lay down as he was dozing off, he said no and then immediately closed his eyes, kept his hand on Andrew’s leg and took a 10 minute boat nap. Ha!
As we were coming in from our boating adventures on Sunday, we were met with some rain but thankfully no thunder or lightning so our crew jumped off the dock where we keep our boat and swam around for an hour or so!
The boys seemed to think rainy day swimming was the coolest and Rhett surprised all of us by loving bobbing around in his lifejacket as the rain fell around him!
It was definitely a memorable way to round out our Sunday!
This Week
Merri and Andrew left on Monday morning and I am just so glad I got 3.5 days with Merri and some extra time with Andrew. They’re a wonderful couple and I’m just crossing my fingers we’ll be reunited again soon.
Once we said goodbye to Merri and Andrew, our weekday began full-speed ahead. The big kids have been in camp until lunchtime both mornings and Rhett blessed me with an epic nap on Monday where I flew through work at warp-speed. Anyone else out there feel like they always go into turbo mode during naptime? Phew!
As for my workouts, I’m going to Burn Boot Camp but also still doing some of my own at-home workouts. Yesterday I did an awesome garage workout during Rhett’s nap and I’m feelin’ it today.
In terms of food over here lately, was on a roll with dinners last week but my motivation to do much cooking this week has been virtually non-existent. I’m leaning into it and embracing easy eats — like breakfast for dinner on Monday night and pesto grilled cheese yesterday. At least it tastes great and everyone likes it!
As for the rest of the week, the big kids are in camp through Thursday and I also have a parent/teacher conference with Chase’s kindergarten teacher on the books for Thursday. I am sooo excited to meet her and love the fact that Chase’s school seems so proactive about getting to know their students and families before the school year even begins. I still cannot believe he’ll be off to kindergarten in a couple of weeks. What!?!?
Alright, friends, I’m off to get this Wednesday rolling and hope you all enjoy the rest of your week!

What type of life jacket do you have for Rhett?! My little guy is only a month older and he is a little fish! He doesn’t love the inner tube style floaties and is still too small for a lot of the toddler ones. He also get’s impatient being held in the pool and just wants to swim, swim, swim… I think something that allowed me to let go on him / not panic when he tries to wiggle out of my arms would be great!

Hi Kristen! Oh I feel ya on the life jacket search!! It’s intense! We’ve had the best luck with this one up until they’re ready for a toddler life jacket –> https://amzn.to/3Cix2CG I’ve tried a bunch (Chase was NOT having most infant life jackets) and that is the one that all of our boys have liked the best!!
