Ryan had a soccer game in the early afternoon and as he headed off to play, Sadie and I headed to the Downtown Orlando Farmer’s Market.
We took our time checking out the goodies and talking with some vendors, including the bakers who made the red velvet pound cake I previously purchased and loved.
After about an hour, we arrived back at home and I was ready for lunch.
Lunch
I made myself a smoked salmon sandwich on a whole wheat roll with chive and onion cream cheese.
Once I was done with my sandwich, I changed into my bathing suit and headed out to our backyard with a plate of apple slices and peanut butter to start reading The Art of Racing in the Rain.
I didn’t have a chance to start reading it last week and was anxious to begin. Before I knew it, several hours had passed and I was halfway through the novel! It’s a good one and I got sucked in quick.
Around 2 p.m., I received a call from Ryan that he was heading home, so I quickly ran out to the grocery store to pick up our food for the week so we could head out to the dog park right when he got back.
Dog Park
We had a great time at the dog park and I fell in love with the most adorable dachshund. It honestly looked like Sadie, but on a tiny, long body with stubby legs. The dog’s name was Charlie and I wanted to bring him home! I didn’t get a picture of him because I was already being totally creepy and following him everywhere, but he was beyond cute…
Just like this girl!
After spending another hour or so outside at the dog park, Ryan and I headed home to relax.
Sweet Treat
We were both in the mood for something sweet, so I set out to make us a small batch of sugar cookies.
I tried to cut a recipe for old fashioned sugar cookies into quarters so we would only have a dozen cookies rather than four dozen, but I totally forgot to adjust the amount of eggs in the recipe.
Once I realized the batter was way to liquidy for cookies, I poured it into a loaf pan and baked it. In the end, our treat tasted more like shortcake, so I topped it with freshly sliced strawberries.
Not too shabby!
Time to finish up some last-minute chores before dinner. I hope you’re enjoying the rest of your weekend!

Just about every day you make me wish I lived in FL! I’m so envious of your beautiful weather.
…as for the strawberries and quasi-shortcake? Yes, please! 😉
kristy @ kristyruns says
I was in Tampa this weekend, and it was beautiful! Hopefully it’ll be as nice in Atlanta! Glad you had a wonderful weekend!
Amy at TheSceneFromMe says
I like your shortcake cake! Sounds good.
We reached temps of 50 degrees today and thought it was wonderful, even went running outside. And now I’m eating fro-yo topped with Fruity Pebbles. I’ve got spring fever!
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
I loved that you salvaged the cookie recipe by turning it into a loaf. I’ve definitely messed up the ratios when altering a quantity too! For once it was actually rather sunny here too, though the 50s definitely isn’t bating suit weather…
Gen says
I would have totally done the same thing when quartering a recipe! Probably wouldn’t thought of baking it like that though…great idea! =D
Amber K says
Me either! That’s creative thinking. I would have just dumped it out.
Shelby says
So jealous of your weather. My family is going to Florida over their spring break but I can’t go 🙁 .
I will have to wait until summer to get weather like that.
Kacy says
Oh my gah, strawberry shortcake sounds amazing right now! Looks great!
Courtney @ The Granola Chronicles says
Spending time outside is the absolute best! Looks like you had a relaxing Sunday – just the way it should be!
Sarah K. @ The Pajama Chef says
sorry about your mishap with the cookies but at least you still got a yummy treat out of it 🙂
Jessica - Dinners, Desserts, & More... says
That sandwich looked delicious! Was that a fresh roll from the farmers market? Fresh rolls make the best sandwiches.
Heather says
I was just wondering – don’t you ever go and watch Ryan’s soccer games?
That sandwich looks so good – I’m still looking for those Salmon burgers that you mentioned the other day!
peanutbutterfingers says
sometimes, but none of the other wives/girlfriends really go, so it’s kind of weird and i feel a bit awkward. if it’s a big game and i can bring sadie, i’ll go!
Heather says
That makes sense! I just noticed that you always mention Ryan & soccer but never about going to the games. Thanks for the reply!
alexa @ simple eats says
That cake looks so yummy! I’ve heard that book is really good! I need to read it.
Allison@ Happy Tales says
Ahhhh what a fabulous day you had!!! We are lucky with the weather up here in Charlotte, too. Sunny skies and highs in the 70s! I was literally outside from 11am-7pm today… had to nearly be dragged in! I went on a 12 mile run and hiked a mountain with Ryan and Happy, and just relaxed outside… ahhh it was so wonderful and days like this make me SO excited for spring and summer! So glad you had a wonderful day as well 🙂
Melissa says
I don’t know if your weather is unseasonably warm for Orlando, but I am definitely enjoying the early spring here in VA! Such a treat to get outside in the fresh air! 😀
Anna says
Your shortcake reminds me of summer and it looks DE-licious!
When I read your blog, I feel like I try to live vicariously through your pictures, imagining I am in sunny, warm Florida instead of dreary, cold Michigan. Lol. Can’t wait for warmer temps 🙂 hope you are having a lovely rest of your Sunday.

The Art of Racing in the Rain is a wonderful book! Especially for dog lovers 🙂 I have a question I was wondering if you would answer. Have you ever experimented with drugs like marijuana? Why or why not?
peanutbutterfingers says
no. pot and other drugs just aren’t my thang.
mel says
haha what a funny question. I’ve never done any for of drugs either but I would feel weird answering this question regardless if my parents read my blog!
RoseRunner says
oh gosh, that sandwich looks divine! I’m tempted to make that my background screen on my computer…
I seriously need to get some salmon and a wheat roll and recreate this.
Amanda (Eating Up) says
Way to save the dessert haha!

Here in Canada I can’t even go outside for more than 20 minutes without my fingers turning purple!! I’m so jealous of your weather 😛
Katy (The Singing Runner) says
It was a beautiful day here in Jacksonville too, but I didn’t take advantage of it. 🙁 I was stuck inside doing school work. :p
Kristen @ That Hoosier Girl says
It makes me feel better to see other people goof on converting measurements! I usually just write the new ones out to the side, but I inevitably skip writing one because I think to myself, “oh…that one’s easy, I got it.” Half of 1/3 I’ll get correct, but I’ll mess up 1/2 of 2 eggs 🙂
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
What a great idea to fix a mess up-that is genius, Julie!!! 🙂
Ann @ Day by Day says
I LOVED that book! I read it last summer and at first I thought it’d be cheesy, but I ended up sobbing at the end. You’ll love it!
Mac says
I love it when bloggers talk about good books they’re reading.. looks like I have another book to add to my never ending list of “to reads”!

Last official day of summer here in Australia..and boy it was a hot one here in Queensland- 33 degrees celcius and very humid.. spring and summer are my favourite times of year here too though even though you could fry an egg on the concrete on days like today 🙂

Way to improvise! I love strawberry shortcake…it reminds me of summer!
We had a couple of hours of sunshine in between storms yesterday. I was so excited to be able to go out and enjoy a little of it before the rain started back up. How many more days till Spring??
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
nice last-minute save! I’m impressed. 😉
Kelly says
Ha! Good for you! I would have cried and thrown the cookie dough away and been pissy for the rest of the night! I am such a half glass empty kind of gal…I should use this as a lesson! 🙂
Annie says
I am so glad I found your blog- thank you sparkpeople! I live in Orlando as well, and also made good use of the beautiful weekend we had.
Just wanted to stop by and say I LOVE your blog, and as I read through your tips for new runners and browse your workouts, I feel a renewed sense of commitment to my routine. Two months of Monday thru Friday 5:30am heart-exploding workouts without any results on the scale or the fitting of my clothing has me feeling pretty demoralized and unmotivated. Your blog is just what I needed to re-energize!
Btw- your pup is adorable! I love running with my husky Mila, but I worry for her with the upcoming summer… I don’t want her to overheat with that coat of hers!
Holly says
I went to a dog show yesterday to try and connect with a good vizsla breeder. We ended up meeting the nicest couple who had 8 of their vizslas with them. They took each one out of its crate so we could meet them all and at one point I had four of them crawling all over me and giving me kisses. So cool! I just wanted to share that little story with you bc I figured you of all people would appreciate it!
peanutbutterfingers says
that literally sounds like my heaven!!! so jealous!!
