I was so anxious to share my apple walnut baked oatmeal recipe with you this morning that I breezed right over my workout!
After breakfast, I kicked off the day with a 20-minute session on the elliptical at 7 a.m.
I followed it up with a leg workout that once again incorporated single leg deadlifts. My sister actually did them at the gym yesterday and I got this text from her this morning…
They’re no joke, I’m tellin’ ya!
A beautiful view of the marina greeted me on my way out of the gym parking lot.
St. Pete is so darn pretty.
World’s Best Coffee?
On my way home from the gym, I hit up The Fresh Market with only one thing in mind: Nab some peanut buttercup coffee.
A couple of weeks ago, I got an email from blog reader Brittany informing me about the new flavor of coffee available at The Fresh Market for a limited time. It sounded right up my alley and I made a mental note to stop in the store to get some when I was in St. Pete and close to a Fresh Market. After smelling the grounds, I am so pumped to try it out. I’ll report back soon.
Lunch
Lunch today was leftovers thanks to my sister! She had a decent portion of her salad leftover from dinner last night and I made it my lunch today. (I ate most of it standing up in the kitchen, hence the sparse looking picture.)
Though the lettuce was rather wilted, I still loved the combination of flavors, especially from the spiced pecans and fried onion strips.
I added some Pretzel Crisps and a piece of Ezekiel toast with apple butter to my meal to make it a bit more substantial.
After lunch, I was able to work for a couple of hours before printing off some writing samples and my resume for today’s meeting in Tampa. Heading that way now!
Blogger on the Run
Yesterday something pretty cool happened!
I was featured on Women’s Running Magazine’s blog as their Blogger on the Run.
I answered a few questions about my foray into running (it’s hard, I’m not very good, but I love the challenge) and wanted to let you guys know about it because their blog is featuring a giveaway related to running every single day through June 19. I figured that would interest you lovely runners out there. Check it out! You might win some shoes or snazzy running apparel!
Also, let me know if you’re training for any races at the moment. I’m starting to get that half marathon itch again and think that an awesome race could be just the ticket to motivate me into training… although training in the middle of the summer in Florida probably isn’t the smartest thing in the world. I’ve done it in the past for the Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon though and it wasn’t too bad.

Cool feature! I’ve been debating doing a half marathon too (would be my first), but I’ve only ever done a 5k and I’m moving to Houston in August where it’s HOT!
peanutbutterfingers says
running in the heat really is a whole new challenge! i try my best to drink a ton of water the day before a long run which helps a bit… it still is tiring!
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile says
Holy moly. I HAVE to find that coffee, it looks divine. Guess I’m making my way over to fresh market soon 🙂
Jess says
Love the Q&A. I’m the same way, running doesn’t come “naturally” to me as it does to my boyfriend, but it really does improve with time. I’m planning on running my first 5K this summer. It’s no half marathon but you gotta start somewhere, right? And your blog always makes my day a little brighter! 🙂
Heather says
Love single leg deadlifts! Makes you very aware of your butt muscles the next day, lol.
Rachel @ Runner's Tales says
I am running the Wine and Dine Half Marathon at Disney in November and I am also running the Disney Full Marathon in January. My training hasn’t really started yet but I am trying to keep my mileage base intact. Running in the Florida heat is definitely rough!
Wendy says
I’m starting to train for the Philadelphia Rock N Roll half in September and the Atlantic City half in October. My first half marathons ever- still don’t know if this is a good idea, especially in this Philly humidity!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
You should run chicago rock n roll again!!! Haha I just registered!

I’m training for my first ever half marathon – Lady Speedstick Women’s Half Marathon in Nashville! My best friend lives there (I’m in Lexington, KY) and it’s one of my bucket list items she said she would help me cross off! Nervous, very nervous, but really excited!
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
That coffee sounds delicious! A couple of months ago, I actually picked up peanut butter coffee at TJ Maxx. If you search the shelves, they have some really good coffee find there. Home Goods has it too because they are owned by the same company.

I have lots of races that I’m training for! I’m running Half #3 tomorrow, Rock N Roll Chicago in July, Grand Rapids Half Marathon in October, Wine & Dine Half Marathon in November and my first FULL marathon (Walt Disney World Marathon) in January! Eeeek!
Carly says
Single leg deadlifts kill me… It takes me about a week to recover every time I do them. Loll! That coffee looks amazing, I’m definitely going to have to find it! I’m training for a half Ironman in August. My brother and his girlfriend convinced me and I love training so I signed up! Haha, my goal is just to get through it 🙂
Meghan @ After the Ivy League says
Oh my gosh that peanut butter cup coffee sounds to die for!
Running isn’t easy for me either (at all). The longest race I’ve trained for was a 10k trail run. I still haven’t quite gotten the itch to run a half marathon…running for two hours just doesn’t appeal to me yet. Maybe someday.
I’m running the Warrior Dash this weekend in Connecticut though and I’m pretty excited!
Alysha @Shesontherun says
I love the hot pink shoes! My new pair of Brooks is all black (because it was on clearance- I’ll gladly sacrifice color for a good deal)
Katy Marques says
I live in Florida too (Odessa-a small town north of Tampa) and the heat truly does make it hard to train for races-especially in the summer! I’m a newbie to running-I started running in April and ran my first 5k (Iron Girl) on April 22nd!
One thing that helps me tremendously is running with a group! I run with a local group called the Suncoast Striders. We meet about three days a week and have anywhere from 40-90 runners on any giving weekly run! The group has all sorts of ages and abilities, so there is always somebody to run with!
Knowing that there are people waiting for me, I am much less likely to skip out on an early morning run. Also, running is so much more fun when you have someone to talk to and to keep pace with! I wouldn’t run as far and I would take more walking breaks if it wasn’t for my fellow Striders!
I would definitely encourage you to check if there are any running clubs in your area! I found mine through a local running store and it has been the best experience-especially when it comes to races!
In regards to Florida races, I have quite a few on my schedule now thanks to the encouragement of my running buddies:
1) The Rap River Run 5k in NPR (tomorrow!)
2) The Frankenfooter Living Dead Challenge in NPR (5k plus half marathon) in October (my fiance, Ryan, might be running the 5k with me!)
3) The Women’s Half Marathon in St. Pete in November
4) The Holiday Halfathon in Madeira Beach in December
5) The Color Run 5k in December (Fiance is doing this one with me too!)
6) The WDW Marathon (depending on how my fall halfs go)
7) The Rock n’ Roll Half in St Pete in February
(I’m also eyeing a relay in early October as well as a beach obstacle 5k in early November!)
Sam @ Fit for My Fork says
Peanut butter cup coffee? That sounds amazing!! I am going to do a Colour Me Rad 5k in August but I haven’t run since last year so have to get back into training. I’m a bit nervous that I’ll be starting from square one again. Congrats on the feature with Women’s Running Magazine and PS, I love your pink shoes!
Beks says
I’ve never done a race before, but I’m starting to get more into health and fitness now, and I have a deal with my best friend that we’ll train together for the Disney Princess Half Marathon at Walt Disney World and Tinkerbell’s Half Marathon at Disneyland in 2014.
Stephanie @ My Freckled Life says
I love that your sister says “Julay”. Makes me think of “Jen-ay” from Forrest Gump!
Cindy says
I don’t know if this counts as a race, but at the moment I am half-ass training for the Calgary Spartan race.

I’m doing my next half in September at Miller Park (where the brewers play). It sounds like a cool race, but I doubt you would want to come up to Milwaukee 🙂 Although, you could make a stop in Chicago too!

I feel about lunges how your sister feels about single leg deadlifts. No matter how much I try to get better at them, my legs still feel like jello after.
Kaitlyn @ Pain Can Be Fun says
I’m (hopefully) training for my first half in October! The race I’m aiming for is in my hometown, Newport, RI! (Google Amica Marathon and you’ll get all the info on the half as well). It’s a gorgeous town and it’s been called one of the best half marathon courses in the country!! 🙂 You should look into it!

Thanks for sharing my workout! You’re the best!
I ran outside this am and it was so muggy and hot! Three miles felt like a half marathon. I have to remind myself to slow down in the heat and not fret about time!

Okay I live in St Pete and run by that marina (nearly) every day… So funny to see it on here! Next time you’re in town, you must try running early in the AM or at dusk… Usually have the few dolphins as running partners! 😉

I caught the running bug and I don’t want to lose it 🙂 come over to sunny califooooornia! I’ve got 1 half an 1 full lined up so ar…hopefully I can pack 1 or 2 more halfs in before the end of the year! 🙂
Bethany @ Accidental Intentions says
You should run the Chicago Half! It’s not until September 9, so if you follow a 12-week plan, you don’t even have to start training for another couple of weeks! I’m running it…first half ever! I’m super stoked 🙂
