Polar Loop Review
Having a goal motivates me. It doesn’t have to be a big, lofty goal. Small goals add up to some pretty amazing accomplishments, right?
When I received the opportunity to try out the Polar Loop, an activity tracker that notices every jump, step and run, I was very intrigued and immediately agreed! I had a feeling it would motivate me to move more throughout the day and I was absolutely right. That is my favorite thing about the Polar Loop: It’s motivating!
I see so many people at my gym wearing fitness trackers and I’ve heard more than a few of my clients rave about them, so I couldn’t wait to set up my Loop and get moving when it arrived in the mail.
Set Up + Battery Life
A little tip: When fitting the Polar Loop to your wrist, check out the instructional How To video online.
Though directions are included, I found it much easier to watch someone go through the steps of fitting the Polar Loop to their wrist than figuring it out with the illustrations.
Once I had the Polar Loop fit to my wrist, I charged it using the USB cord that came with the Loop and set up an account on Polar.com. An important side note: The Polar Loop has great battery life and charges quickly! I figured I would need to charge it at the end of each day, but it lasts several day without needing a charge.
When I created an account on the Polar Loop site, I loved checking out the map of the world to see what people around me were doing! I zoomed in on Florida and enjoyed looking at the activities my fellow Floridians were completing.
You can also set your profile to private (which is what I did) if you’d like so no one can see what you’re doing and you can be oh-so-sneaky. Or, you can allow only certain people to see your profile by adding them as “followers” which I think is a great way to sync up with friends and family members to motivate each other to move more throughout the day.
Once the Polar Loop is set up, you can press the button on the front of the tracker to view the LED display that flips between showing you the time of day, calories burned, total steps and your daily activity goal.
Polar Flow App + Inactivity Alerts
The Polar Loop can also connect to the Polar Flow (free) app and give you real-time updates about your movement and activity levels for the day.
Here’s an example of the breakdown:
One thing I really liked about the Loop was the inactivity alerts! If you’ve been sitting for too long, an alert will let you know and that was a big motivator for me to get off my butt and walk around or move even if it was for only five minutes or so.
Adding Your Heart Rate Into The Equation
The Polar Loop does not come with a heart rate monitor so this is an added cost if you want it, but it’s a great way to get accurate data about your overall calories burned and how hard you are working at certain times during the day. The Polar Loop retails for $109.95 and the heart rate monitor is an additional fee, but even without the heart rate monitor the Loop can tell the difference between activities like sleeping, walking, running and more. It’s also safe to use in the pool!
What Trends Did I Notice?
Some days it was really easy for me to hit my activity goals. On Saturdays, Ryan and I often work out and then take Sadie for a long hike after breakfast, so meeting my activity goals on Saturdays is rather easy. (And if I incorporate running into my workouts, it’s much easier to hit my goals!) On other days when I am working from home or even days when I am personal training, it’s a little harder because I am often sitting or standing around and only walking from one place in the gym to the next.
Since my hometown is not very walkable, the best way I found for me to hit my activity goals was to increase the distance of Sadie’s walks!
So, I think it’s safe to say Sadie is the Polar Loop’s number one fan.
On days when I might be more inclined to play fetch with Sadie in the backyard, if I was under my goals on the Loop, I’d leash her up for a walk instead so she wasn’t the only one getting exercise.

I will randomly select a winner on Friday.
Good luck!
I am most interested in the inactivity alerts feature. Having a job that keeps me at a desk most of the day, I would love a little reminder to get up and move every once in a while!
I’m interested in inactivity alerts!
I love that the Polar Loop will notify you if you’ve been inactive for too long. As a social worker, I have an emotionally demanding job that keeps me sitting with clients for much of my day, so having the Polar Loop remind me to take a physical and mental break would be great for me!
I would love to see the activities of those in my area. I love looking for new activities and see what those in my area are doing would be great. I also like the inactivity alert. I work in a Corporate environment and often times am sitting on calls doing computer work, so this is a great reminder to get up and go!
I’d love to see my patterns and if I’m really as active as I think I am. The calorie info would be nice too!
I am so jealous that you have one! I have been eyeing these little devices for a long time. I would love to be able to track my sleep and see it compared to my activity levels to see if there is a direct correlation. I also love the ideas of setting daily goals and if by the evening, I still haven’t met it, then I guess I have to take the dog out for a longer walk!
BTW- Sadie totally reminds me of my dog- similar mannerisms and activity level! He’s a boxer/whippet mix named Blake.
I’m intrigued by the heart rate monitor connection! This is exactly what I’ve been wanting from an activity tracker!
I’m interested in the inactivity alerts, especially since I’m both a student and my internship is mainly desk work. I wouldn’t have to think too much about if I’m doing enough to get my blood moving!
I would love to gain insight on my sleep habits. The inactvity reminder would be a great encouragement to get up and move every so often, particularly during the work day.
The inactivity alert intrigues me as I would like a friendly reminder if I am being too idle. This would be particularly helpful in the cold northeast winters when I find many excuses not to be outside due to the cold and snow.
How do I choose just one part that is most interesting?! All of it sounds great!
I like how they will sync up to any gym cardio machine that has the Polar functionality. I have the heart rate monitor with the chest strap and watch, but this looks like it would be easier!
I like that it notifies you when you’ve been inactive for too long. I haven’t heard of that feature before in a fitness tracker! 🙂
I am definitely interested in the Inactivity alerts! Since I work a desk job it is easy to forget to get up and move around during the day, so the alerts would definitely be beneficial!
I’m intrigued to know if I move around as much as I think I do. I don’t sit still well, but once I do I rarely get up. This device could be great way for me to know that it’s okay to relax or to get off my butt.
I’m really curious what my sleep activity is like. Also, the inactivity alert sounds awesome! My job is pretty sedentary so having that would force me to get up and move around.
I would be very interested in tracking my daily activity! As a mother of a five month old it can be a challenge to fit in runs and workouts, so this device would help make sure even if I didn’t get my workout in that I was still moving around enough throughout the day.
The inactivity alerts!
I would love to be able to track my sleep! But all the features sound awesome!
The inactivity alerts would be amazing! I am at an office job and always need a reminder to get up and moving!
I LOVE the idea of an alert after too much time being “inactive”. I am also intrigued by the sleep tracker. I know I need to catch more zzzzzs. I wonder how this product compares to the JawBone tracker?
Track my sleep please!
Since I have a desk job I’d really like to get the inactivity alerts. I know I need to get up and walk around more!
sleep data and actual activity. i sit at a desk all day but go to the gym in the morning and i’d be interested to see how much activity i’m getting during the day.
Definitely the inactivity alerts. I like to think that I do a good job at work (desk job) by getting up to refill my water which leads to lots of bathroom breaks but I am sure there are days where I sit for way too long. I’d love a friendly reminder to get up and do a loop around the office.
The inactivity feature!
the sleep data is interesting to me!
I like the inactivity feature. It would help me move more while working
I’m interested in the inactivity alerts and the sleep tracker!
I would love to see my sleep data! I know there are nights when I sleep terrible and I’d like to be able to have real numbers to look at.
I would love to be able to keep track of my steps during the day, I also love the feature that kicks in if you’ve been inactive for a while!
I love that it’s safe to use in the pool! That’s the hardest I’ve found to track – am I swimming moderately? Vigorously? I haven’t heard of this brand before and the wristband looks more comfortable than others I’ve seen, too.
The sleep data and inactivity alarm! I can go hours without getting up from my desk some days! That would be handy!
I definitely need the inactivity alerts!
I’m interested in two things: Steps + inactivity alerts! I hate that I work at a desk, so I always get up and walk around, take the stairs everywhere I go, or just go down to the bottom and back up. I’m curious to see how that adds up, plus the inactivity alerts would remind me to do that every so often!
I love the fact that it notifies you if you’ve been inactive for too long. I just recently got a desk job and find myself sitting for too long!
I love the inactivity alert thing and the fact that it tells you how much time you have been doing different things (like sitting) so you know to get up and move again!
I sit at a desk all day so the inactivity tracker would remind me to get up and take a walk!! Get Moving!
Inactivity alerts would be a big wake up call for me, I’m sure. As I sit at a desk the entire workday, it would be awesome to quantify the effects of sitting all day. I think this information would motivate me to get up and move around more at work, and also to stop hitting the snooze button and drag myself out of bed for an early morning workout.
I’m interested to see my activity for the day, but the sleep data intrigues me too.
I am so interested in my sleep cycle! Some days I feel so rested after a night, and other days I feel like I was a main character in World War Z….but I woke up so I survived at least! I’d also like to track my daily activity. Especially compare it to restful nights and zombie fighting nights…. 🙂
I am most excited to see the activity tracker!
I am most excited about the inactivity alerts. I go to school from 9-5 so I sit most of the day. :p
I love the inactivity tracker! Since I am sitting at a desk all day for work, it would be good to have a reminder to let me know when to get up and take a walk around the block.
I’m interested in the number of steps I take throughout the day. I am running around at work every day and would love to know exactly how much distance I cover.
Wow, this is awesome! I’m definitely most interested in the sleep tracker!
I would love the inactivity feature, especially when I’m sitting at a desk for hours at a time.
I love the motivation! Especially if my husband and I both use one..then its competitive 🙂
The inactivity alerts would be great for me! I’m basically in front of a computer all day at work, and I try to make an effort to walk around when I can, but sometimes I just forget. This would totally help me get moving during the day!
I think the inactivity alerts would be great. Let me know I need to get moving a little.
