Today’s adventures in IKEA proved quite productive!
Okay so we didn’t actually get anything, but I think that I now know what furniture I want for my home office.
I love the above bookcases and the sofa table. IKEA also has a desk that matches these two pieces of furniture perfectly.
I think they would look really great with a statement desk chair.
Something like this…
(You know I found that photo on Pinterest.)
I have a lot of different design ideas in my head and can’t wait to get started! I’ll be sure to post progress photos for you guys to see along the way. I am hoping my office has a clean, comfortable and somewhat vintage feel.
I really liked the layout of this office at IKEA:
Trips to IKEA are always an adventure. My mom, sister and I had a great time meandering through all of different rooms and could not stop “awww-ing” at the baby furniture section.
When my sister found these stuffed vegetables, we just about died.
I think these would be a hit with some beautiful pregnant bloggers I know! Someone buy the broccoli, please. So stinkin’ cute!
Dinner
When we arrived home from IKEA, Sadie and RYAN were waiting for us! Seeing Ryan and Sadie playing in the backyard together warmed my heart. My little family is reunited at last.
Dinner tonight included filets with a crab cobb salad, broccoli, fresh cherries and potatoes.
It was a good one!
Since Ryan was joining us, my mom made sure to get a special dessert for my Oreo-lovin’ husband.
Cookies ‘n’ cream cake!
I had a piece (okay, two pieces) with vanilla ice cream.
There doesn’t need to be a birthday to warrant cake in this house.
Time to hang out with the fam. Enjoy your Friday night!
Oh my God – I’m kind of in love with IKEA! 🙂 I never used to care about design/decorating…but as I get older, I am. I wish I just had a house – and the money! – to make use of it. But I occasionally go there just to look around and “envision” 😉 Sigh.
OREO cake?! Best. Mom. Ever. I ate so much food tonight – that my heart – and stomach – are racing…I don’t think that’s a good thing…
I LOVE your office ideas! Very cute. I especially like the “statement chair” idea. Enjoy your evening with your little family back together! 🙂
Those stuffed veggies are such a good way to get kids to like vegetables from an early age! Genius.
I definitely think that half the benefit of furniture shopping is getting room layout ideas from the store displays! IKEA is great for that.
yum! I love oreos, too. Enjoy your time with Ryan!
I wish our tiny one bedroom apartment had a den or a place for an office. I have a desk in the corner of our bedroom. Maybe I need to dress up the area to make it stand apart from the bedroom. Who knows!
have you looked at the ikea website for inspiration? it’s AMAZING the ideas they have for small spaces!
I say: nix the bookcase, replace it with a stuffed pepper. Nix the statement chair, replace it with a stuffed butternut squash. Nix the desk and replace it with 2 stuffed corns and a stuffed broccoli the size of a human.
This lineup sounds like the best office I could even dream of.
I promise, if I had pinterest, I’d pin that idea up on some sort of wall.
That office design is great!! are you planning on craigslisting the furniture for your place?
I would like a slice of that oreo cake myself 🙂
we’re probably going to craigslist as much as we can, but we may end up buying some of the “forever” pieces.
Those stuffed veggies are super cute, I wish I could find something like that in the Ikea here in China! I know a few pregnant ladies who would really love them.
I want to work in the offices of Peanut Butter Fingers!
BTW, your mom seriously rocks.
i agree 🙂
LOVE the stuffed veggies! looks like i’ll have to make an ikea trip 🙂
happy weekend, friend! <3
I love decorating! Or maybe I just love going to furniture stores and pretending I could put together something like that in my own house! 🙂 Either way, I think you should totally get that yellow chair! It’s gorgeous!!
Every time I go to IKEA my credit card leaves crying and my boyfriend doesn’t talk to me the whole drive home because he knows he has to put it all together and find room for it in our tiny apartment. lol. Also, those veggies are AMAZING! As soon as I saw the pictures I thought of Gina and Emily.
oh WOW! I love your ideas! I esp love that couch table.
Enjoy the evening:)
My friend got the stuffed broccoli for her son. It’s adorable, except now he won’t eat broccoli because he thinks he’s eating his friend! That plan kinda backfired…
Love those stuffed veggies!:) glad you And your family are reunited!!
I saw that exact thing on Pinterest. I think I may have even re-pinned it. It would be my dream work space.
Glad the IKEA trip was a success!
Those stuffed veggies are so cute!
I seriously want those stuffed veggies, but what in the world would I do with them. They are just so cute.
I love that color of yellow!
Those veggie pillows are too adorable for words!
Aww thanks for the shout out!
Rumor has it that Ikea baby furniture is actually pretty good! So the hubby and I are checking stuff out next weekend 🙂
some of it is adorable… other pieces look like they’re straight out of a dr. seuss book 🙂
i love that sofa table!! i almost got it!
Don’t you love having a close knit family? Where your husband is taken care of just like he has been there all along? Your mom seems like such a sweet person!
Love the carrot and broccoli! Have a fun weekend with your fam!
yes! it warms my heart.
Those stuffed vegetables are AMAZING!!!!! ….I *need* those in my classroom, like need them yesterday!!!!!! HOLY COW!!!
I want, I want, I want!!!!!
My husband and I love to go to IKEA to see how they make living possible in 200, 300, and 500 square feet. It gives him ideas on what to do with our house. Ahem, I am not living that small! 😛
Oh yum! My bday is on Monday so I’m hoping to get a pizookie from BJ’s!!!
It’s my brother’s birthday too! – Happy early birthday!
Thanks!
I totally love the furtniture you picked out. I’ve always wanted an office with floor to ceiling bookshelves and can’t watit to get a bigger house so I can get some. Your office is going to look amazing!
And that cake? I’ll take a bite, please?
I love Ikea! I feel like a kid in a candy store- so much fun stuff…I would have totally been all over those stuffed veggies!
So nice of your mom! I wish my family and boyfriend could be close like that too..hopefully one day. 🙂 Looks like the perfect day to me!!
I love that office in the first pic! Mine is a mess of boxes + photo area right now that seriously needs some attention. I keep telling myself to wait until winter when I have more time inside to decorate.
Julie- if your husband is a big oreo fan, I have a really good recipe for Oreo Dirt Cake on my blog. It is heaven in your mouth 🙂 It’s crushed oreos layered with a cream cheese/pudding filling. So amazing!
oooh off to check it out!
I really like that book case too! It has so much space. I know my friends love going to ikea here in the netherlands because you can get icecream and refill as many times as you want :p
Who seriously does not like IKEA, I could live in that place….actaully you probably could survive in their haha! I love those stuffed veggies! So cute 🙂
Anything with oreos is delicious! That cake looked so yummy! I also love Ikea and when I get a house I want to decorate my rooms with Ikea furniture! Its so inexpensive yet stylish!
I absolutely LOVE IKEA!!! It’s so addicting, although somewhat overwhelming! All the furniture in my studio apt is from IKEA!
Julie…could you post the recipe for the Oreo Cake? My 19 year old son LOVES oreos. He just left for college yesterday and on his 1st weekend home I would love to make it for him as a surprise! And btw…just found your blog…love it!
i wish i could! she bought the cake though. 🙂
Well then…the hunt is on!!
I kind of want your mom to make my next birthday cake. It’s not until June, so she can plan ahead ; )
I would LOVE a home office. The last two apartments I have lived in, I did not get to pick the apartments or have say in them really, and I have not had a dining room or a desk. This new apartment there is no dining room table or a desk. It drives me crazy but I love living with my boyfriend and it is affordable for us for now so that is always important.
The closest IKEA is about 3 hours from my house, but I hope to get to go there sometime!
Happy to hear the fam is back together! I’ve never been to IKEA, I guess I need to get on it!
I need a piece of that cake in my life.
OK, even though I’m not much of a sweets person, that cake does look seriously tempting …
How did Sadie react when she saw Ryan?? I bet her feet barely touched the ground!
That cake looks to die for!! Yum… I could definitely eat that for breakfast this morning. I love Ikea, for those of us on smaller budgets Ikea is seriously the best place to find stuff. That desk is adorable…great taste!
I love, love, love IKEA! Cory and I could spend hours there. And everything is so cheap – we’re like “4 bucks?! We’ll taken 10 of ’em!” Oopf.
that’s our office furniture! in the dark color, though. check out IKEA’s fabric area for some seriously amazing prints – we found an great chair at a consignment store and re-upholstered it, which saved me from buying the $500 chair i thought i wanted. $8 staple gun did the job instead 🙂
IKEA is amazing! I always get all my furniture needs from there because it’s such great quality for a really good price. I need to go there soon and redo my room. I’m in need of some revamping and IKEA is just the place for that haha.
Mmm that oreo cake looks deliciouso!! Lucky lucky.
Love the veggies! So adorable! Looks like a fun Ikea trip!
I can’t wait to see all the office ideas come together in your new place! I do love the stuffed veggies too! They are soo cute!
Ikea is the best! When I saw your post, I thought of this ikea desk makeover I saw on Little Green Notebook. It actually kind of resembles the style of the desk in your chair inspiration photo. This desk option can be reconfigured in so many different ways and it fits the description of the style of the office you are hoping for. http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/2011/07/my-desk.html
Have fun decorating!
i love that office pic w/the yellow chair! 🙂
love your new ‘do. i’ve seen so many people getting new cuts and colors on blogs and you tube…i feel inspired to change it up too!
I like Ikea too, you feel like you’re walking through a huge house and seem amazed by everything. An adult toys store! Oh and I love you’re mom’s cake, did she make it herself? What is it made of?
