Hello again, my friends! Thanks so much for stopping by this afternoon! We last left off with breakfast which I ate and enjoyed before taking some time to prep my first batch of bone broth in the crock pot.
I loosely followed this recipe from The Yummy Life and have high hopes for the end result. We shall see!
With my bone broth prepped, I threw on my gym clothes and headed out the door to work for a few hours. We’re already assembling the February group exercise schedule so there’s lots of planning and shuffling going on.
I ended up taking my lunch break a little early today because I really wanted to sneak in a late morning BodyPump class!
I’m so glad I was able to make it to the class because it was awesome. The instructor took us through a throwback release (#70) which just so happened to be one of my old favorites from the days when I used to take BodyPump two to three times a week in Orlando.
My favorite songs from Track 70 = Infinity 2008 (chest track), True Believer (back track) and Thunderstruck (shoulder track). All three are awesome and I just wanted to share them for my fellow group exercise instructors out there who may be looking for some new songs to add to a workout playlist. (FYI, for Amazon Prime members, you can get a remix of Infinity 2008 for free!) These songs just may find their way onto my Friday playlist I’m putting together for the barbell strength classes I teach.
With my workout done, I headed back to the gym to eat the lunch I packed and work for a little while longer.
On the menu for today was a sushi-inspired salad served with a Pink Lady apple and Greek yogurt topped with sunflower seeds and raw pumpkin seeds.
Plus, two small slices of fresh sunflower bread from The Fresh Market bakery. If you happen to live near a Fresh Market and see that bread on sale, definitely pick up a loaf. It’s fantastic!
After lunch, I worked for a few more hours and now I’m home on a quick blogging (and shower!) break with Miss Sadie. Time to head back out!
See ya in the morning!

I just made my first bone broth over the weekend! It was delicious. I can’t to hear how yours turns out.
Julie says
did you follow a specific recipe? i am hoping it will be delicious!!
Linda says
I did. I followed this one: http://paleoporn.net/beef-bone-broth/. I did roast the bones first. It was delicious. I let it cook in the crockpot for about 32 hrs. From 10am Sunday to 6pm Monday.

I made the broth for my dog…you should make some for Sadie: it’s REALLY good for them. Just use the bones and cider vinegar. (You can keep veggies in as well if you would like). I home cook for my dog and pour the broth over her meals. Sadie would love it.
Carrie says
bone broth sounds delicious!! what a lovely lunch too- enjoy the rest of your afternoon!
Natalie @ Never Serious Blog says
That crock pot is COOL. Looks like a spaceship! Haha, my crockpot is due for an upgrade!
Julie says
LOL! I love our crock pot! It’s actually really affordable and has three different pots you can use in the same stand for different size meals. It’s the best!
Jen Clark says
They started offering BodyPump at the Y in Ocala! I remember when you talked about trying to talk them into it. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet but plan on it soon!
Julie says
THANK GOODNESS!!!! I was fighting that battle there forever! Go figure they do it when I leave! 🙂 I hope you have a chance to try it out soon!
Jen Clark says
I had to chuckle when I saw it on the schedule and figured you would say that!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
Oh my gosh, I trained on BODYPUMP 69 and haven’t taught a release that old in forever! Truthfully, we’re only supposed to teach two years back and then stick to more current stuff. But whatever, it’s fun to revisit the oldies. I haven’t done the whole bone broth thing yet. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Julie says
really!? i LOVE it when instructors do old releases — they’re so much fun!!
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves says
My mom makes delicious bone broth all the time, and it’s the perfect base for her noodle soups! She also adds it to rice porridge in the slow cooker, which adds a ton of flavor.
Sounds like you’re having a busy but awesome day!
Laura says
What do you plan to do with the bone broth? What are the health benefits ? Thanks!
Julie says
Hi Laura! If you click the link above for the recipe, you’ll see a bunch of the health benefits (and here are some more: http://www.shape.com/healthy-eating/cooking-ideas/8-reasons-try-bone-broth). I am planning to sip on it and also use it to make homemade soup!

Thanks for the Body Pump inspiration!! There is a class at my gym this evening at 5:30 and I’ve been on the fence about taking it today. Your post may just be the kick in the pants I needed to get to the gym this evening! Thanks Julie!!!!
Julie says
yay! hope it’s a good one! 🙂

That bread looks really good. We have a Fresh Market but I rarely go because = $$. But maybe I will have to check out sales!
Abigail says
I’ve been dying to try a bone broth. I can’t wait to read how yours turns out!
I’m in the Northeast but my in-laws live in NC and when we visit we always make a Fresh Market more than once to load up on goodies for our stay and to take home. Not a typical tourist destination but I love it!
Skinny Fitalicious says
That crockpot is pretty awesome looking. I’m in the market for a new.
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
Excited to hear about how your bone broth turns out – I keep meaning to give it a try. Yummy lunch – the salad looks great.
Liz says
1- I love anything to do with the CrockPot and 2- Mentioning sushi brings up my craving for the fishy food! I have been dying to go to one of my favorite sushi places for the past couple weeks now–this will be my goal for the weekend!
Marilyn @ The Salonniere's Apartments says
That sushi salad looks yum! I’ve been looking for some new inspiration for salads but I never thought of making one inspired by sushi! That is such a great idea!
Kerry says
I have never even heard of bone broth until recently and now I see it everywhere. Wondering how it turned out and how difficult it is to make?

My local grocery store has sunflower seed bread too and it’s soo good! It never lasts very long when I buy it.
Marisa Tomasella says
Hi Julie,
Just out of curiosity, how much weight do you put on for each track? I’m sure it fluctuates depending on your workout/teaching schedule. I’ve been doing pump weekly for nearly a year. I would like to push my edge a bit and add more weight/more pump per week.
Thanks!
Marisa

you can see a breakdown of my *usual* bodypump weight in this post: https://www.pbfingers.com/2010/04/10/so-what-is-bodypump/ 🙂 of course it can change day-to-day depending on how i’m feeling, but that’s a basic overview. hope this helps!

Can I just say that I think Harris Teeter brand greek yogurt is THE BEST!! And so cheap…its so thick and delicious! Also love the sunflower bread from FM. So glad I have both grocery stores near me 🙂
Julieann says
Bone broth is a great way to start a chicken pot pie sauce, soup, a stuffing, or gravy for a roasted chicken, oh if it is chicken bones! The options are without limits though too for beef, or pork too. Enjoy!
Liv @ Healthy Liv says
I usually get Fage, Chobani or Stonyfield Greek yogurt, but I tried the Harris Teeter brand the other day and I was SO impressed! It was insanely thick and so creamy. I’d definitely going to get it again– it’s one of my new favorites!
Brit says
I have never heard of bone broth before! I will have to read up on it and maybe try making some of my own sometime.

Is it weird that seeing HT brand stuff in your posts completely warms my heart? I moved to IL from NC and I MISS HARRIS TEETER. Largely due to the free cookies.
Julie says

BodyPump 70 is one of my all-time favorite releases! It’s one of the few that I’ll do the entire list of (I usually mix and match to avoid songs I don’t like).

I made my turkey stock last weekend (carcass from Thanksgiving turkey), but I’ve never made beef bone broth .. that’s my next project 🙂
