A new toy arrived today!
I ordered a new Cuisinart 9-cup food processor when I saw it on super sale through Hautelook a couple of weeks ago and have been anxiously awaiting its arrival.
Now I want to process something!
Ryan and I already own a tiny food processor that I’ve been using for years. Its been great for making a small batch of homemade healthy banana custard (<— perfect for breakfast!) or my three-ingredient dark chocolate avocado mousse, but when it comes to larger recipes (or larger food), the small food processor just doesn’t cut it.
When we were registering for our wedding, I remember Ryan kept saying we should probably register for a new, larger food processor.
(Flashback photo from that lovely day!)
I told him that we had a perfectly good mini food processor that worked just fine. He said a bigger one might be a good idea and I brushed him off saying, “Yeah, yeah, maybe…” and surreptitiously made a mad dash toward the non-stick pans. See ya!
Well, it looks like someone was right, and now, a year and a half later, we’re finally in the food processor big leagues. Actually, they make a 14-cup food processor, so we’re probably just sitting on the bench in the big leagues, but we’re getting there.
I can’t wait to put it to use, so if you have any recipes that you love that require a food processor, please, please share and link to ‘em in the comments section!
Dinner
Dinner didn’t use the food processor because I had a one-track mind when it came to our evening meal. I wanted pizza and I wasn’t budging.
Using premade multigrain pizza dough that we bought from the Publix bakery, Ryan and I made semi-homemade pizza topped with cheese and turkey pepperoni.
It turned out fantastic.
For my fellow Publix shoppers, if you’ve ever made pizza with their bakery dough and it came out way too thick and doughy, leave the dough out on the counter for an hour before baking. It makes such a difference and after eating more than our fair share of crazy-thick pizza, Ryan and I are happy to finally follow instructions, plan ahead and let the dough sit for a solid hour before topping it with sauce and cheese.
And for dessert…
The last truffle from our Easter candy collection. Sad day.
See ya in the morning!
My boyfriend just surprised me with a Cuisinart Food Processor over the weekend, but its a bit smaller than yours. I finally got to give it a try today and I am very happy with the result.
The last truffle is always bittersweet! 😉
I have the same food processor – it’s awesome! I don’t know where I would be without it, seriously! Also, I love the dough from Publix and you’re right, being patient and leaving it out makes a huge difference.
you can legit make anything in a food processor except cooking things!
sauces, granola, doughs, batters, pestos, smoothies, puree some fruit and freeze: instant ice cream! the possibilities are endless.
You will LOVE that food processor! I have the same one, although I held out for a long time. So much easier than using the small one, and you can make enough for leftovers. Now I want to process something!
Homemade pizza on my blog today too!
I also have a small food processor that is just not good for anything except small things…and I too have been checking out the big guys on hautelook and ruelala for some time. Like you, it’s just probably time I commit.
That’s my secret for pizza dough too! Leaving it out for a bit always does the trick!
I love that food processor! It’s the one we have, and I LOVE it!! Enjoy 🙂
You will love your cuisinart! I’ve had mine ten years. Leave it out so you will use it. Do u have a good healthy recipe for manicotti? I have some ricotta and spinach I need to use. Thanks. E
You will love a big food processor! They come in so handy. That pizza looks awesome!
My food processor was one of the things I wanted MOST off my registry! It’s not something I use all that frequently, but it does come in handy. I made a delicious artichoke dip using my processor: http://4thesakeofcake.com/?p=3998
I asked for a food processor for my birthday and I love it. Google zucchini fritters by smitten kitchen they’re so delicious. I’ve made them about four times already. I’ve also made potato pancakes and homemade hummus. I would say I use it about once a week. Definitely make zucchini fritters though and let me know what you think of them if you do:)
Oh and mine is a seven cup KitchenAid food processor which is the perfect size for a single person like me or two-person household.
I don’t know if you ever found a yoga may, but I was just at target and they had a super sale. Mine is thick, squidgy, fits my height (I am five eight), And was 50% off!
My go to almond butter recipe: http://astoolatthecounter.wordpress.com/2012/01/14/almond-butter/
Definitely worth the risk of licking the blade. MMMM
I just bought a 10 cup food processor a couple of months ago and I absolutely LOVE it!!! I use it for EVERYTHING! Smoothies, salsa, sauces and so much more!
Those Lindt truffles are the best! It’s a good thing I only get them at Christmas though, or else I’m sure I’d weigh 20 lbs more than I do.
That pizza looks so good! and I can’t wait to see what you make the with food processor!
I just got a 14 cup one for my shower on Sunday, so your post’s timing is perfect… looking for stuff to “process” myself! 😉 I can’t wait to make huge batchs of salsa, hummus, and dough!
I don’t know how I DON’T own a food processor. I love using my dad’s—and making homemade almond butter!
you’ve gotta make this..chocolate chip cookie dough peanut butter! http://www.howsweeteats.com/2012/04/a-quick-and-easy-treat-chocolate-chip-cookie-dough-peanut-butter/
I have the same one and absolutely love it! I use it most frequently for pureeing canned tomatoes (specifically Cento) for use in spaghetti sauce, and hummus. Plus, it comes with that awesome white spatula thing that cleans the sides of the bowl clean so you get every last drop of hummus-y goodness. The Cuisinart recipes for hummus are actually pretty good; you should just make sure you get the tahini sauce for it. Have fun! Can’t wait to see what you start making with it!
we got a big food processer for our wedding, and i love it! i think it’s actually that same on you bought. i honestly don’t use it quite as much as i thought i would, but it gets brought out from time to time. my favorite thing to make with it is various homemade nut butters! just dump all the nuts in there and blend until smooth! yum. 🙂
I love my Cuisinart. Mine was actually a hand-me-down from my mom – I think it’s almost as old as me (and I’m 26)! It’s missing a few of the fancy blades, but it does the trick. My old apartment didn’t have the storage space for it, but my new place does. I was so excited to get it and try it out!
We had pizza (cheese and turkey pepperoni with Publix dough.. no joke) for dinner tonight. And it was super thick and doughy. We hadn’t ever had this problem before (and it was still super delicious, so it wasn’t really a big deal), but I’m glad to know the reason. We’ll definitely wait the full hour next time 🙂
I just got a food processor a few weeks ago for my birthday and love it!! I made a really good hummus-like dip in it. Here’s the recipe:
http://ashleylovesbaking.wordpress.com/2012/04/06/white-bean-spinach-artichoke-dip/
I’ve never even USED a food processor, but it’s on my “want” list for next Christmas 🙂
the white chocolate truffles are the only ones i’ll eat – so good.
I just got a food processor too! I recommend homemade Larabars.
1 cup pitted dates, 1 cup dried apricots, 1 cup raw sliced almonds, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, pinch of nutmeg. (You can substitute different fruit or nuts too.)
Put in the dates and apricots, process until combined, add the nuts and spices, process a little more. Then press them into a container with wax or parchment, freeze for 30 mins or so, take out, cut them up and done!
I make hummas, salsa, and pesto among other things in my processor. Love it!
Good tip about the Publix dough! I used to split the dough in half because it would be too thick. Then I’d just make 2 pizzas.
And P.S. Brandon and I used the Chili’s coupon that you included in the last post … thanks for the idea! 😉 I got to finally try their Oreo molten cake … soo good!
Make veggie burgers!
I made this tonight and it was a hit with the whole family!

I could NOT live without my food processor! I use it about every other day it seems and sometimes have to hand wash it because it’s dirty and I need it again. Probably one of my favorite things to do with it is make homemade breadcrumbs using up bread or buns before they go bad. Store in the freezer for a very long life. I also make all kinds of pestos and pasta sauce. And almond butter! Roast some almonds and process for about 10 minutes. So good!
I have a 10 cup Kitchenaid (so about the same size) and I find it plenty big enough (12 or 14 cup not necessary) 😉
I have that food processor and LOVE it. I’m always amazed by what it can do. I have a fabulous recipe for Chocolate Tofu Pie (you can’t taste the tofu!) from Eatingwell.com
http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/choc_raspberry_tofu_pie.html
It’s really great. My husband is not a tofu person…. he’s a true chocolate lover and he went crazy over it and begged me to save the recipe to make again. =)
You have to make salsa! Here is my recipe:
http://www.exerciseforfries.com/2011/08/best-homemade-salsa.html
I LOVE my food processor. I’ve been using it to make gazpacho a lot recently. You just use it to chop up all the veggies and voila! lunch for the week! (plus shrimp)
I need to try making pizza at home sometime. We haven’t done that in years.
Best food processor food ever= cauliflower mash!!! I head steamed cauliflower + some fat free sour cream, butter/margine, garlic, salt and pepper! You will swear you are eating mashed potatoes!!!
i have to make this!!!
I said the same exact thing when we registered (although to myself b/c my husband probably couldn’t even tell you what a food processor is if it was starring him in the face) and then regretted it for the past 5 years. I finally got a big one this past Christmas (the 14 cup one actually) and it is night and day! I think you should christen it with some nut butter because that was one of the things I hated that I couldn’t do in a mini. Delicious and so much cheaper than buying all those fancy kinds 😉
What flavor Lindor ball is that- white choc?
We have that food processor. It is incredible.. And quiet! Ok you are going to think this is gross, but you have to try it. It’s called veggie cereal and we got the recipe from MckMama. You put everything in the food processor in this order: baby carrots and pecans, cauliflower and broccoli, then a large apple. Then serve it up as cereal with almond milk and cinnamon. It’s perfect for packing more veggies in your day!
whoaaaa. sounds crazy, but i’m oddly intrigued!
Ive had that processor in my amazon cart for a week! I think i officially need it now! I want to try this…http://stylishstealthyandhealthy.com/2011/04/20/baked-mac-and-cheese/ Love mac n cheese!
oooh! i LOVE mac and cheese! right up my alley! thanks for sharing, jen!
aw thanks, Jen 🙂 I hope you do try it- it’s one of my faves!
We registered for a food processor. I would love to have one. I think it would be great and I can only imagine how many things you can make with it. I’m hoping we get one. 🙂
I love homemade pizza! It looks so yummy!
I’ve been dreaming of getting a food processor! There’s so many sauces I’ve wanted to try but can’t because I think the ingredients would straight up kill our blender!
First on your processing list? Homemade almond butter. trust me on this one. 🙂
I use my food processor all the time – especially for making nut butter! http://gabbysgfree.com/2012/02/whipped-cocoa-peanut-butter-spread/
I have that same food processor and I love it! I make homemade hummus and dips in it a lot, and just made a Thai peanut sauce with it last week that turned out great 🙂
Here are the two recipes! White Bean Dip: http://somesugaradded.blogspot.com/2012/03/cooking-class-white-bean-dip.html, Thai Peanut Sauce: http://somesugaradded.blogspot.com/2012/04/easy-thai-style-peanut-sauce.html
Yum! We make homemade pizza with the Trader Joe’s dough probably once a week. It’s so good and a good way to use whatever veggies or random toppings you might have laying around.
Oddly I had a food processor for a couple years and only used it for one thing: black bean dip! YUMMO!!!
Process a can of rinsed black beans with 1/2 packet of taco seasoning, 2TBS olive oil, 1 TBS lemon juice. Whirl it until well mixed.
Adjust oil, lemon juice & taco seasoning amounts to your deisred taste & consistency. I love this stuff!
People wrinkle their nose when they see it, but after they taste it they’re hooked.
Slice up some pitas & bake for a great dipper.
I just ordered the same one from Macy’s with wedding giftcards. Hope you love it!
