Good afternoon kiddos!
Is this Monday flying by for anyone else?
I churned out a freelance article this morning and am trying to get a decent amount of work done before Sadie’s vet appointment late this afternoon.
I know we were just there, but Sadie has to go back for a follow-up appointment following her Lyme disease vaccination. (For those who asked, it’s not a common vaccination, but our vet thought it would be a good idea since we take Sadie hiking a lot and have to pick ticks off of her after every single hike.)
We may have to stop by Dairy Queen to get me a Blizzard Sadie a pup cup on the way home if she’s well behaved. Our local Dairy Queen is the queen (ha!) of pup cups. The minute they see Sadie’s head pop up from the back seat, they start getting a “pup cup” (a little cup of vanilla soft serve) ready for her which she absolutely adores.
I love it when restaurants or stores are dog friendly. When we lived in Orlando, Ryan and I loved that many of the restaurants (specifically those on Park Avenue in Winter Park) were incredibly dog friendly. They leave water bowls outside for overheated dogs walking by or offer dogs treats if you sit down to eat at their restaurant.
The only problem is that Sadie isn’t much of a dog biscuit-lover, and biscuits, like Milkbones, seem to be the default dog treats. Sadie prefers her dog treats to have meat in them and typically takes the biscuit and then spits it out in front of the biscuit-giver.
I told you she’s a princess.
Lunch
Lunch today was rather random, but fortunately it worked!
I started with a base of Pacific Natural Foods Thai sweet potato soup.
I added steamed broccoli and leftover chicken breast and roasted sweet potato to the soup to beef it up a bit.
The soup itself was delicious but a little spicy for my taste. Thankfully the addition of the chicken and extra vegetables helped tone it down a bit.
Now I need something nice and cool because I’m feeling overheated. Hot soup in the middle of summer in Florida is risky business!
July Book Club
With nearly 46 percent of the votes, the winning book for the July PBF Book Club is…
Wild by Cheryl Strayed.
This book is due at my local library July 13 and I have dibs on it next! Can’t wait to get reading!
As a reminder, we’ll be discussing the book on August 1.
Happy reading!
Carolyn says
haha – I know what you mean – I made quinoa chili yesterday and questioned what I was doing as I was sweating into the steaming pot. Tasted good! Good luck with the vet appt!!
Danielle says
Ha, I’ve never heard of such a picky dog! 😉 I’m sure she appreciates the fact that DQ is so dog-friendly.
I think I’m going to join in on your book club this month. Excited to get started, too!
Christina says
I love your pictures and captions of sadie! Hillarious! Im going to start joining the pbf book club. This seems like an interesting read. Was the soup good?
peanutbutterfingers says
it was! it was just a little too spicy for me, but i’m a big baby when it comes to spicy food.
Christina says
its ok. I’m like the spice queen. haha. Thanks for the feedback. I love boxed soups easy to make.
dotsie says
Too funny about Sadie! I bought Nutro brand treats for my dog- berry flavored! She liked them! I was a proud momma!
Laura @ LauraLikesDesign says
I had no idea DQ did that for dogs! How fun!
Alicia says
Living in Upstate NY, it is weird to think that some dogs don’t need to get the lymes vacc! My dog gets tested and the shot every year! Glad that Sadie is doing well 🙂
Nanci says
Sadie is such a pretty girl, I love her expressions! Our dogs, Blue and Ozzie, are very well known at our local Starbucks drive-thru and always get cookies. Sometimes if I go without them (shhh, don’t tell them I do this), they send cookies home for them. SPOILED!!
peanutbutterfingers says
aw, i love that! we had a starbucks give sadie a cup of whipped cream once when she spit out their biscuits. she really is ridiculous. 🙂
Carol @ Lucky Zucca says
Hahaha this just made me laugh out loud! What a cutie.
Nicole says
The bank we go to bought treats to have on hand just for our dogs!
Emily @ I'd Rather Walk says
Sadie is such a cutieface! I can’t pass a vizsla on the street now without thinking of her.
Megan@ The Running Doc says
Whenever my boyfriend and I decide to move, I so want to move to a city that is dog-friendly! San Antonio is completely dog-unfriendly, there are only 2 dog parks in the entire city and San Antonio is huge. I would love to live somewhere that I can take my dog everywhere with me.
Christa says
There’s a frozen custard place in town that will give your pup a “poochy cone” as long as you actually come with a dog… this makes me wonder if there was a high incidence of people coming without their dogs and requesting these itty bitty puppy treats… p.s- how is is almost August!!!
Katie G says
My dog is the same way with Milk Bones! The doormen at my apartment building give him a treat when we come in, and if they give him one of those, he spits it out and looks up at them like “Where’s the good stuff?” SO embarassing.
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Yay, so glad Wild ‘won’! There are a few dog-friendly shops near me as well, and I think it’s great that water and treats are offered because in a way, it encourages people to get outside and walk with their dogs, rather than drive around for all of their errands. (They could even “sprint errands” A.J. Jacobs-style!) Sadie sounds like she knows what she likes! 🙂
Laurie @ Love, Laugh, Laurie says
I love places that are dog friendly because even if I don’t happen to have my dog with me, I love seeing the other dogs!
Annette@FitnessPerks says
I don’t have a dog, but I bet that’s nice to have places around that are so dog friendly!
I can’t wait to dive into that book-fingers crossed my library carries it 🙂
Melissa @ runscootsrun.blogspot.com says
I love Pacific’s soups…so yummy and I like your idea of adding things into it as well…I’ll have to try that sometime. Sadie is precious!
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
Haha my mom’s dog is a total princess, too. My mom still eat 3/4 of her ice cream cone, and then give Sophie the rest. So spoiled!
Brie @ Coxswain Dilemma says
Oh, DQ blizzards. Damn my recent development of lactose intolerance.
Beks says
We stop at a local ice cream store in town to get our dog ice cream if we go in that direction. They always put a milkbone in it, which our dog won’t eat, unless it hasn’t TOUCHED the ice cream. He’s like me with ice cream and cake, I guess. I like them to not touch. LOL.
Lisa says
Yay for Wild; I bought it yesterday. My lab looks forward to my kids toys out of their fastfood bags. She chews them up like it’s something special.
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance says
I’ve never heard of pup cups at DQ! I’m definitely going to take my dog there and check it out. I started Wild this weekend and I’m liking it so far.
Alysia @ Slim Sanity says
I never thought about giving dogs ice cream….if my pup is anything like his momma, he’ll love it, haha!
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
That is so cute that they have a pup cup for dogs! My family dog would probably go crazy over that! 🙂
Khushboo says
Hahah love that Sadie enjoys ice cream- the pup has good taste!
Becka @ simplybecka says
Ah, my dog loves Dairy Queen pup cups! It’s super fun for everyone to load into the Jeep for a trip to DQ and get some frozen treats for us all. Including the dog, even the cup holders in back of car hold hers all nice for her to eat. Best wishes Sadie on your vet visit sweetie, vet’s are never fun but I am sure it will be a breeze this time. ^_^ Have a great day.
Karen says
How perfect my mother-in-law just bought WILD for me!
I am half way through.. can’t wait to chat with everyone about it!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles says
I had no idea DQ made pup cups! Makes me want to borrow a dog so I have an excuse to go there more often 🙂
lindsay says
Its funny – my dog does that too. She is usually too distracted to eat the biscuit outdoors in a public place. she also turns her nose up at any doggy water bowl in public places. she will only drink from a fresh cup/bowl of water that other dogs have not drank from…yet, she will drink from puddles or a gutter. go figure.
Caitlin @ This Bride's Joyride says
OK the eating paper sadie pic and caption is probably the funniest one I have seen on your blog! I burst out laughing at that face!
Yay, I am so excited to read Wild. I actually read Defending Jacob a few months ago and it’s worth a read even if you don’t use it for book club!
Amanda says
That’s funny Sadie doesn’t like the dog biscuits! I take my black lab Cruise to a local ice cream shop and they always give him a free scoop of vanilla with a dog biscuit on top. He immediately takes the biscuit out and throws it in the floor, and dives straight into the ice cream! The dogs know what’s up!
erica says
my dog is the same! he doesn’t seem to like hard/dry biscuit type treats, but he loves soft jerky type treats or dehydrated treats…
Katie@perfectlypoppedkernel.com says
What a great idea. The sweet potato soup would make a great base for a stew. Looks great!
Nilda says
Sadie is so cute! Our Bruster’s Ice Cream will give dogs a doggy sundae (a small scoop of vanilla ice cream with a dog bone). My dog has had one since he was a puppy. We got him one the very first day we brought him home!
Erika says
saw this and got way too excited…

I usually dont frequent DQ but I just might take the pups through their now for a treat! That is so cool!
Carol @ Lucky Zucca says
Today has flown by for me too! I am grateful though since Mondays tend to drag sometimes. 🙂 I had no idea that Dairy Queen did “pup cups” ! My Sadie loves ice cream and frozen yogurt so I always leave a little bit of mine for her to lick up from the bottom (as long as there is no chocolate). We have a neighborhood that is similar to the one you mentioned in Orlando that leaves out water for dogs and a few restaurants that give out treats. I always make sure to run through that area when it is hot so Sadie can have water too! The park near my house also has a few specially built water fountains that have little doggie water fountains at the bottom of the human ones. It’s awesome!
Lisa says
That is adorable that she gets a pup cup. Love that. She makes me want to get a dog so bad. Sadie has great taste buds, I’m impressed by her eats.
Laurie @ Love, Laugh, Laurie says
Speaking of Sadie, I already posted this on your FB wall, but Sadie is famous!

Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
That soup looks delicious!!! And my brother’s golden retriever, Molly, will eat almost anything although she’ll play with it for a while and then when you try and take it away she’ll gobble it up. Like the piece of jello I gave her yesterday… Great video of it.
Margaret says
I have jsut started reading Wild! Great choice for your July book
Zoe says
Well I was inspired by your previous posts to have a tuna salad sandwich for lunch today. It was great, and chopped carrots were fantastic! However it was a tad leaky in my bag… no bueno!!
Has Sadie ever had doggie ice cream? It’s usually bacon or meat flavored!
Georgia says
Woohoo! I think this time I’ll jump on the book club bandwagon! This book looks great and I’m going to need some quality writing once I’m done with 50 Shades of Grey (NOT a fan).
Brooke says
Thought of you this am, my local diners special pancake was banana peanut butter pancakes with a homemade peanut butter syrup!! Talk about mouth watering!! Side note: where did you and your sis find your cute suits you wore at the jazzercise weekend? It’s so hard to find cute, comfy suits!! Thanks 🙂
Lea says
I used to work as a cashier at PetSmart and you would not believe how many dogs that would spit their Milk Bones back out at me. Though with some dogs I worried about the safety of my fingers.
Jaclyn @ Just Jac! says
THat’s so funny, my dog is the same way, a total princess about doggie treats. she hardly ever wants milkbones or other bones, she only likes soft foods… she LOVES smoked salmon and LOVE LOVE LOVESSSSS almond butter – ha! I guess she learned well lol!
TJ says
Sadie cracks me up!
Sarah @ Will Run for Pasta says
I adore your Sadie pics and don’t blame her for spitting out those bland biscuit treats! I’ve read that rose geranium oil is a great tick repellant. You can mix it with almond oil and put some on her collar or even make a hydrosol with water and spray her down before you go out.
I kept checking the poll results and am so glad Wild won! I’ve been wanting to read it and now PBF has given me good excuse!
Jess @ Blonde Ponytail says
I have failed as a dog owner. pup cups?!! Omigosh! I have been denying Cooper! He is quite content with milkbones though! 🙂
We have to use Frontline on Cooper for Nebraska summers–ticks galore! eek!
Sam Schlaikowski says
great choice. LOVE that book. makes me want tto prepare myself to do the trail! 🙂
Bek @ Crave says
I love how your dog is basically like a human child! We feed our dogs leftovers and meat occasionally, on top of their dog food but never sweet stuff (partly because I don’t want to share it maybe? haha)- does it ever make Sadie sick?
