Puppy Cuddles

April 19, 2012 by Julie 128 Comments

Every morning should begin with puppy cuddles.

cuddling dog

cuddling with dog

One of Sadie’s favorite ways to cuddle is to put her back against my chest and drape her neck over my neck, looking out over the other side of my body, creating a kind of Sadie-scarf over my neck.

Of course it is nearly impossible to photograph this cuddling style because the minute the camera comes out, Sadie becomes instantly alert and gets that deer-in-the-headlights look. I’m sure my fellow dog owners can relate! It’s ridiculously hard to get adorable sleepy puppy pictures.

Breakfast

Waffles!

healthy breakfast

This morning, breakfast included two waffles topped with a mixture of ricotta and cottage cheese, freshly sliced strawberries and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

waffles with cottage cheese

I am trying my best to work through a box of Eggo Nutri-Grain waffles that I have in my freezer before I crack into one of the six boxes of my beloved Van’s waffles that I bought earlier this week when they were buy one, get one free at Publix.

The Eggo waffles taste fine but the ingredient list isn’t fantastic and there’s just something about the Van’s waffles that I like a bazillion times better than other frozen waffles out there. All in good time, my friends. All in good time.

waffles cottage cheese strawberries

Today will be a full day. I have a project due and a few other tasks that need attention. I’m also hoping to cram in a lunchtime yoga class.

Hope your day is good one and full of puppy or kitty cuddles (if you like animals, don’t have severe allergies and have a pet, that is)!

Question of the Morning

  • If you’re a pet owner or previously owned a pet, does your furry friend have a favorite way to cuddle? Please describe so I can be filled with that warm, fuzzy feeling that I get when people talk about their adorable animals.

Sadie loves the pseudo-scarf cuddle that I described above, but she also loves basically any cuddling that involves her face on my face. Face-to-face cuddling is her favorite.

She also seems to enjoy laying her chest on top of my chest when I’m reading and sticking her face up under my book. Neediest dog in the world, I’m tellin’ ya.

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

My dog (he’s an 8 month old, 55 lb, yellow lab) definitely does the his body against mine snuggle…

but one of his favorite things to do is to lay on his back, spread eagle of course, and lay his head on my shoulder.

Like Sadie, he hears my camera turn on and instantly gives me the “stank eye”.

My white lab thinks he’s a lap dog. He’s 85lbs! He likes to curl up in my lap when I’m reading. Yes, he literally flies through the air and settles into my lap. It doesn’t last long since I start to lose circulation in my legs. If I let him sleep in bed with me he does the “lab lean” and gets as close as possible. Some mornings I wake up and he has his head and paws on my chest. Adorable!

My dog Clifford loves to lay on my chest and stare up at me until I rub his ears. Our other dog Tanner needs rub his nose into the side of your neck and emit little growling noises, its almost like he gives you a hug. Both are pretty darn cute.

My twin girl kitties must always be cuddling with my husband and I if we are sitting. It’s like the minute you’re on the couch, they’re on your lap, and always entwined with each other. They also have a very unique nightly routine. I’m a side/stomach sleeper, but I have to sprawl a little because the larger of the twins likes to curl up between my legs. Not exactly the most comfortable position for me, but she is happy. She does the whole “walk in a circle then flop” routine that dogs usually do. The other twin will jump up by my head and nudge me until I lift up the covers and then she curls up next to my stomach. I’m always afraid she will suffocate, but she loves to be under the covers!

My cat Kirby loves to sit on my lap whenever I’m doing anything that makes snuggling difficult, like trying to type on the computer or eat. If I move in any way that displeases him, he bites me. On a more pleasant note, my other cat, Stella, LOVES being carried. She’ll cry to be picked up, and then I hold her and walk around the room, bouncing her like a baby. She’ll put her head on my shoulder and go to sleep. She’ll stay there for as long as five minutes. It’s beyond adorable 🙂

My dog is not a huge cuddler, but she does love to lay her head on my leg while I sit. She isn’t allowed on the furniture, but she will just lay her head there looking at me with her puppy eyes. When I get home from work, she runs around like crazy and if I sit on the floor, she will run over, spin around so her butt is facing me and plop down as CLOSE as possible. And then I hug and pet her 🙂

Rufus, my goldendoodle, will wake me up by licking my hand that’s draped over the bed, then once I’m awake he’ll jump into bed with me and my husband and plop down between us. He likes to be as close to both of us as possible, and laying on his back to increase his chances of a belly rub. 🙂

I have a yellow lab that is just too busy to cuddle. She’s definitely a morning dog so if she hears you move or sees you open your eyes she is immediately over by the bed staring you down until you give in and get up. The only “cuddling” she does is lean against your legs to get some scratching

Cute! One of my kitties likes you to lay with her and give her bear hugs. The other one prefers to sit on your lap (or climb all over you) and give you kisses. Luckily I think I’ve finally gotten her to quit all that licking, but it’s still kinda cute when she lets one slip.

Roo drapes herself across my lap for snuggles. The cuter thing she does is that when we’re in the car, she has to be touching me. So she’ll drape her paws over my right forearm like she’s helping to shift or something. It’s my favorite thing ever.

Sadie our poodle cross will nudge at me if I am sitting on the couch with a blanket on until I lift it so she can snuggle beside me under the blanket. Then we hold “hands”, I hold her little paw while she is laying there. It’s sooo sweet.
Penny our minpin sleeps by my knees, but in the morning I like to bring her up and we lay with her little back to my chest and I kiss the top of her head while she uses my arm as a pillow for that snooze time.

And don’t you love coming home to Puppy Love! It’s seriously the best part of the day to have them so excited, almost at “pee your pants” level (if they wore pants). heehee….

My 8 month old dachshund, Piper, love cuddling at night. When she was a baby I would put her right on my chest because I was afraid of rolling on her at night. Now she curls up right between my legs and lays her head on my leg, or if I’m on my side she lays behind the bend of my knees. If she gets too hot, she will crawl away from me and lay in the empty space under my covers.

She’s so cute though. If she needs to go out, but she’s really tired, she will lick my legs until I wake up. Otherwise she crawls out from under the covers and gets right up on my chest and licks me until I wake up and take her out… and then we come inside, I hold the covers up and tell her come on, and she leaps under the blankets haha.

Farnsworth just lays across your face because she’s usually hungry. It’s a great way to start the day….face full-o-cat.

My 7lb chorkie is tiny enough that she knowsss she can convince us to cuddle her anytime and anywhere! If I’m sitting at the table doing homework, she’ll cry until I pick her up, then do everything in her power to take over my left arm so she can curl her body around it! It’s hilarious when I won’t put my arm down because she’ll still try to get comfy half standing up to rest her head on my arm! Cutie

This is one thing I never get to do………I know it sounds horrible right?! We don’t allow either of our dogs in our bedroom or on the couches- we have trained them that way since day 1. This means no cuddling, BUT it also means no dog hair on couches, sheets, etc!

Occasionally I will get clean blanket out, pay it on the floor and cuddle for a few minutes with them, but that is pretty rare!

I can so relate! My sweet pug(Meatball) is very afraid of my iPhone… I got a cute pic of him while he watched me make dinner last night that I just posted… as for favorite snuggling positions, he likes to be burrowed tightly against my leg(he also prefers that while in the car) or he curls up behind my legs while I am laying down. He is not a fan of being held up close to my chest/face – though I force him to do it sometimes in the morning and he suffers through it. Dogs + Cuddles = Perfect morning!

Newnan LOVES to cuddle in the mornings. We don’t allow him to sleep in our bed (wiggles too much–and takes up more room than we do!), so his bed is on the floor next to ours. When our alarm goes off or we wake up, we call him and he does a running leap into the bed, right in the middle of us. His tail just goes “thump thump thump thump!” the whole time. He’s so happy, haha.

Speaking of cuddly, loving dogs have you seen the news about the the police officers responding to a call at the wrong house and shooting and killing the barking dog in his own yard? This has happened twice in the past two weeks!

    http://ovnblog.com/?p=6015

    http://abcnews.go.com/m/story?id=16163996

Both owners have pages on Facebook to raise awareness of the unnecessary use of lethal force by our law enforcement.

Check out ‘Moco’s last wish’ and ‘justice for cisco’ on Facebook for more info and both owners have started a petition that you can sign if you would like!

Personally, as a HUGE animal lover I’m disgusted by the unnecessary force used. It’s bad enough both officers responded to the wrong house but to feel that killing the dog is your only option is so wrong. Thankfully, no one else was hurt.

Anyway, I know you’re a big dog (animal) lover and wasn’t sure if you were aware of these tragic events. 🙁

our husky Mila, on the other hand, isn’t much for cuddling unless i’m upset about something. she invites herself onto my bed, licks my tears away and then curls up as close as possible. so cute. she does love when i put her in a soft headlock (that’s really the only way i can think to describe what it looks like) and give her lots of kisses on the snout and the head. she actually smiles!

I have this stupid valentines day fleece blanket that I got from (gasp!) Wal-Mart on clearance a few years back and my girl cat has to cuddle on my lap on that blanket every time I use it! It’s her fave!!! She stretches her paws on it (my boyfriend calls it “making bread”) and makes the perfect spot to sit so I can rub her face. 🙂

This may be a strange one… When I’m laying stretched out on my back on the couch, Zeke will often sit and whine in order to lay where my legs are. I’ll lift my legs up into my chest and let him jump up. Then he will lay down in between my legs with his head on my stomach, so I can put my legs around/on top of him. Essentially, he’s laying on my crotch!

Every time I do a good butt workout at the gym I worry that Stevie Moo won’t have as comfy of a pillow though… :-/ as if I need any reason not to firm up that booty of mine! My puppy isn’t even 4 months old yet, and she has two modes, crazy play time or sleepy cuddle times. Every morning after my husband let’s her out she comes back in and races over to the bed where she cuddles up against me and I give her a chew (we have so many in our bed now, I am finding them in my sleep). She just LOVES to be a cuddle bug when she is chewing. The other day I was standing in the living room and she was chewing on her rawhide on my feet. To test her, I took a step to the left so she wasn’t touching me, and she did her little army crawl over to me. Adorabe.

When she is scared or unhappy (like post vet) she likes me to hold her like a baby, with her head looking over my shoulder and an arm on each side of my neck. it’s ridiculous.

Luna is a truly wacko cat … She drapes herself across my upper chest (above the boobs) and stick her cold nose in my ear. Then, once her nose is warm she suffles a bit and licks half the skin off my face. My face ends up smelling like tuna on toast.

My puppy Laney is only 9 months old, and is way too full of energy to cuddle. Sometimes when she is REALLY sleepy, she’ll let me spoon with her for a whole 2 minutes before she either a) starts licking my face, or b) wiggles away and moves to a different part of the bed. She definitely has way too much energy to stay still for more than a few minutes, let alone cuddle! But I love my little wiggle worm anyway!
