This weekend was a pregnant woman’s dream weekend: Fun daytime activities followed by relaxing nights on the couch. Who am I kidding? That’s also my ideal weekend even when I’m not pregnant.
Our Friday night in included pizza from our beloved Brooklyn South and an embarrassing number of episodes of House of Cards. Fellow HoC fans, what do you think about season 3? Ryan likes it way more than I do right now, though it is definitely still holding my interest.
Pure Barre: Pure Madness Challenge
Saturday morning my day began with a Pure Barre class. During the month of March, all Pure Barre studios are encouraging Pure Barre fanatics to go all-in and take the Pure Maddness challenge: 20 classes in 31 days.
I signed up and hope to do my best, but I’m already behind and know it will be hard to catch up! Since I don’t like to double up workouts and teach + take Pure Barre on the same day, it makes Pure Madness a little challenging… But I guess that’s the point of a challenge. I made it to a morning class Saturday, Sunday and today though, so I’ll consider that a victory, especially since my Pure Barre attendance during my first trimester was a little lackluster. I’m definitely going to listen to my body and not beat myself up if the challenge isn’t in the cards, but I figured I should sign up anyway to at least give myself a shot.
After Pure Barre and breakfast, Ryan and I took Sadie on a 40-minute walk around our neighborhood before cleaning up around the house for a few hours. It was much needed! I swear our kitchen was giving me the side-eye for neglecting it for so long. I need to get back into the habit of a quick 10-minute cleaning session each night. (<—A tip I picked up from The Happiness Project!) It makes such a difference.
Bowling + Baby Bump Update
Once we were done cleaning and eating lunch, we had plans to meet up with our friends Chandra and Kevin for some afternoon bowling!
Before we left, I had Ryan snap a quick baby bump picture that I shared on Instagram last night. I am starting to see some bump development/rounding!
Hi, baby!!
I threw a vest on over my shirt before we left the house because I feel like I am officially in the awkward stage of pregnancy where people wouldn’t really know I’m pregnant, but I also don’t look like myself anymore either. Is there a baby in there or just last night’s pizza dinner? (Probably both.)
Our bowling double date with Kevin and Chandra was great!
These two are so much fun and we had an awesome time hanging at the bowling alley for over three hours.
The four of us had to wait about an hour for a lane due to a billion birthday parties, so while the boys went into the arcade to play a bunch of games, Chandra and I chatted over fries, a chicken quesadilla and pretzel bites.
When Kevin and Ryan came back to join us, they gave us their cards with all their arcade points to redeem at the prize counter and Chandra and I returned with candy because candy = The best prize!
I picked up a White Mystery Air Head for Ryan and I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen him that excited in several days. Love that flavor!
We bowled two games and Chandra and I were both a little too pumped when we managed to break 100 during game two. Victory!!
(Side note: I cannot remember the last time I went bowling and we entered in our real names on the score board. We are five years old.)
Sunday
After a morning out and about (Pure Barre + brunch with Ryan in Davidson + a trip to Lowe’s), Ryan and I spent most of our Sunday outside walking with Sadie and inside working on projects around the house.
The nursery is coming along slowly which is just fine with me since my only real goal is to have it mostly done before my tentative baby shower date in June. I have no idea what kind of crib to get or what glider chairs are the most comfortable/practical, so if you have any suggestions, please let me know! I haven’t done any research yet, so I’m an open book.
Now it’s time for me to shower and meet Ryan at the doctor’s office for our 18-week anatomy scan ultrasound!!! Even though we already know the sex of our little one, I’m looking forward to seeing our baby again and hearing the sex confirmed since we found out rather early. I’ll be sure to share the news with you guys this week!
Have a great Monday!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
YAY for baby bump! Precious! And that night of bowling sounds like a blast – we went bowling with a good couple friends of ours a few weekends ago and it was so much fun, I felt like we were back in high school for a second!
Marielle says
What a fun weekend! I was able to do pure barre for the majority of my pregnancy (just stopped a couple weeks ago) and it always felt wonderful! It’s funny, I always hated doctors appointments but since being pregnant, I look forward to them, so fun!
Brittany @ Lemon Lime Life says
White mystery air heads are the best! But mine always taste like watermelon for some reason…kinda takes away from the mystery! Can’t wait to hear if you are having a little boy or little girl! Eeeekkk!
Ashley @ sweet carolina belle says
That’s my perfect weekend as well. I’m participating in the current pure barre challenge as well. Good luck girl!
Amy says
Oh my gosh, HoC…this season is way more ominous in my opinion! I’m so conflicted because one moment I may totally detest a character, and the next I am rooting for them. How far along are you?
Love the pregnancy updates! Take care!
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves says
Ahh still so stoked for y’all! I love how you put “preggers” as your bowling name. And I totally believe in you for the Pure Madness challenge!
Can’t wait to hear the whether baby is a boy or a girl 😀
Julie says
haha! my friend Chandra did that 🙂
em@simplypresent says
How cute are baby bumps?!
Looks like a great weekend with the perfect amount of fitness, friends, and yummy food.
Have you decided on a “theme” for the nursery?
Julie says
not really! i just really love a very neutral look — we’re planning to do lots of whites, creams and beiges w/ pops of pastel colors. 🙂
gretch | gretchruns says
You look so adorable Julie! Can’t wait to keep seeing your bump-dates 🙂
My fiance loves bowling and is really good at it..his high score is over 240! I’m also happy when I can bowl over 100, so it’s a bit embarrassing to bowl with him! He’s always trying to give me tips about where to stand and how to aim, but I still manage gutter balls when I try my best.
Hope you have a great week!
Julie says
that’s amazing! I’ve never even come CLOSE to 200!
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Your little bump is so cute!!
Jen says
We don’t enter our real names when we go bowling either. I am almost always Jenguin, and my boyfriend is usually Happy Cow (don’t ask). I don’t know anyone who uses their real names…
Julie says
ha! love it! and now I want to know the happy cow story… 🙂
Jada Bennington says
Bowling is always so much fun! I always get excited when I break 100 as well!
As for House of Cards, I just finished it this weekend with my boyfriend and in true Netflix series fashion, all I have to say is Holy Smokes!! I had the same thoughts about the season being slow and not as intense as the other seasons during the first half of season 3. I don’t want to spoil anything so I will say keep watching, it gets better! We ended up staying up way to late to finish season 3 last night because we wanted, and needed, to know what happened!
Have a happy Monday 🙂
Courtney says
You’re totally making me want to go bowling and eat airheads right now…!
kristin | W [H] A T C H says
sounds like a great weekend! i haven’t made up my mind on HoC season 3 yet. can’t wait to find out the baby’s sex!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
looks like a great weekend! i totally know what you mean about that awkward stage of pregnancy…. like you, i didn’t “pop” til late… and then when i did i LOVED wearing tight shirts to show off my bump!!
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
Whoaaa throwback with that air head! The white mystery WAS TOTALLY the best flavor! Thanks for giving me a craving for those again, haha!
Lindsay says
Congrats again on your little peanut!! Your bump is adorable! Wish I could help you out on nursery items, but I’m useless in that department 🙁
Natalie Clark says
So so excited for you!! I cannot recommend a gliding recliner enough for the baby’s room. My sister told me I “HAD” to get one and I am so glad that we did. I could sit in that dang chair all day long and have spent a few nights sleeping in it with our precious baby. We got ours at BuyBuyBaby. It is amazing!
Erin B says
I would definitely recommend a glider that also reclines! Mine doesn’t and there have been many nights that my son didn’t want to sleep anywhere but in my arms and a recliner would have been AWESOME!
Courtney! @ Redefining Athlete says
Man, I haven’t seen an Airhead in a loong time. But white is absolutely the best.
The Barre Challenge sounds fun! I’m a sucker for challenges like this. I’m still desperate for the day when a studio opens close enough for me to be a regular at.
Kate says
Long time reader, here, and mom to an 18 month old little lady. The glider for my daughter’s bedroom was one of our last purchases. At the time, we were so caught up with how expensive preparing for a baby is, that we went with a “more reasonable” chair. WRONG! Make the investment into a good quality glider. I prefer the ones that look like arm chairs. When registering, I stalked old registries from my friends on various websites. Learn from others! Oh! And I highly recommend the book “Happiest Baby On The Block”. Life Saver!! Best of luck to you and your family.
Julie says
I would say definitely register for a crib that converts to a toddler bed and then to a big kid bed. It will save you a lot of money down the road! Something like this: http://www.target.com/p/delta-bentley-s-series-4-in-1-convertible-sleigh-crib/-/A-14371974#prodSlot=_1_6
🙂 Can’t wait to find out what it is! I’m guessing boy!
Emily @ Sweet Summer Smiles says
Love your bowling name! 🙂 You look so cute with your little baby bump! I can’t wait to hear what the sex is! Have fun today!
Rachel @ Blonde with a Chanse says
What a fun weekend!!! I LOVE your bump!!! 🙂
Chelsea Cappelle says
So, so cute baby bump! Looks like a great, fun weekend! 🙂 Can’t wait to hear the sex of the baby!
jan klein says
Funny, I was just thinking of getting some friends together for bowling this coming weekend. Guess it’s a sign! Love the bump pic!
Sam @ Grapefruit & Granola says
Your post reminded me that it has been forever since I’ve been bowling. I am horrible at it… don’t know the last time I’ve been able to break 100! Have fun at your anatomy scan! Can’t wait to see what you do with your nursery.
April says
What a fun weekend! Bowling is such a fun group activity. I’ve never watched House of Cards, but your enthusiasm for this show definitely has me intrigued!
Your little bump is just the cutest! I’m excited for the upcoming gender reveal. 🙂
Stacy @ SweatingTulipz says
What a cute lil’ baby bump! I don’t think I have been bowling for over 10 years. What a fun date night! You definitely had the definition of a perfect weekend! (Aside from the cleaning, but when the cleaning was over it makes you so happy!)
Carol T. says
love your bump. You are so cute!!!!
Jaime Hahn says
I completely understand that awkward stage of pregnancy. I am in it now at 19 weeks. I have one shirt that you can see a bump forming but the rest of my shirts you cant see anything and if you did, it looks like I ate a thanksgiving dinner or something. My coworkers in my immediate office know, but many people I work with still have no clue. Have you felt any kicking yet? That is the weirdest and most amazing feeling! I cannot wait to hear the sex of the baby!
Julie says
I haven’t yet! And the dr. today said it will probably be harder for me to feel anything because of the position of my placenta, but I am crossing my fingers I feel something sooner rather than later!
Erin says
Make sure and take a trip to Baby and Kids furniture plus in CLT. They have a great selection of cribs and rocking chairs that are adorable and great quality.
rachel says
I am more of a “hippie” mom. I co sleep and make my own baby food… etc.
I would recommend a recliner instead of a glider, if you have the space. That way you can bring up your legs to rest the baby on and recline while feeding so you can sleep a little.
This is a hot subject just because of suffocation, but I believe that God gave mommies a 6th sense about where the baby is and what is going on.
Angela @ HonestlyAngela says
Your little bump is so cute!
I love my stork craft glider. It is seriously one of my favorite baby things that I bought. I have a matching stork craft crib too which I like- but the glider is seriously the best! Such a great price and it’s so comfortable and really good quality!
Brittany says
Your weekend sounds similar to mine. Pure Barre both days and a trip to Lowe’s on Sunday morning. 🙂
Love the bump picture! <3
lisa valinsky says
Julie! First, congratulations on your pregnancy. I’ve been loving reading through the posts to hear how everything is going.
And second, was it hard to go bowling while pregnant? Did you go for a lighter ball or do anything differently?
Julie says
thanks lisa!! I actually didn’t think too much about it and felt normal when I was bowling, but I did end up using a ball that was 2 lbs. less than the balls I usually bowl with (8 lbs. as opposed to 10)
Natalie @ Never Serious Blog says
I love your Friday night pizza tradition! Except that it always makes me crave pizza….even first thing in the morning. Man I forgot about airheads! Those are the best!
Kelsie says
Congrats! My son (first child) is 8 weeks old today- time flies, and I actually somewhat miss being pregnant!! But I will take him being here over being pregnant any day!! I debated for a while on gliders- we ended up inheriting a rocker/recliner from our neighbors, and I love it! It is very comfy, and there have been a couple nights that little buddy will only sleep when being held. On these nights, I have been so thankful for the reclining aspect of the chair- there is no way I could sleep upright!
Sarah F says
Sounds like a great weekend! Bowling is so much fun as an adult- I also went this weekend, and none of my friends put our real names in either- and we’re all almost 30. My boyfriend was put in as Mr. Ford (since that’s my last name), and I was put in as “The Canadian” (since I live in the UK). Our other friends were Pumpkin Head, and Learner’s Driver (as my one friend just totalled his car). There’s something about bowling that makes you remember being 13 and act in that same adolescent way.
Ashley says
What an adorable little baby bump! Best wishes to you and Ryan 🙂
ashley says
We don’t have kids yet but one of my good friends got a La-Z-Boy rocker/recliner for their nursery and that thing is sooooo comfy! We’re totally planning on getting one when we have a baby.
Julie says
thanks for the tip!!
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
The last time I went bowling I was pretty excited to break 100 too!
Tonya says
You look great! I love looking back at my baby bump pictures. It is funny, one day I could hardly tell I was pregnant and then it seemed almost like magic that the next I had a baby bump! It happened about 23 weeks!
As for a crib, I would say spend as little as possible because they are all going to look run down (teething, playing, coloring) before you know it. We spent $300 on a Delta convertible crib and I think it has held up really well. But, I am glad we spent $300 as opposed to $700-800 on the speedy ones. I have also heard great things about the Ikea crib and it supposed to be very reasonably priced. Anyway, newer cribs are all going to be safe because of the federal guidelines.
Julie says
good advice!! thank you!
Kelly says
I’m having so much fun watching you experience your first pregnancy! Although the subsequent ones are awesome as welll, there’s nothing like that first time round!
As for Season 3 of Netflix…..not sure what to think yet. I’m probably like you…not loving it, but it is still holding my interest.
McKenzie says
Your weekend sounds great! And I swear somewhere between 21-22 weeks for me, the bump came to look like an actual baby bump. I never really understood how you could not be showing much one day & so much the next, but it really is true!
We are in the process of decorating our nursery, and our glider is actually getting delivered today. We ended up ordering the Lane Kids Regal Grande Upholstered Swivel Glider in gray from Amazon b/c we wanted something that looked more like a recliner/chair than a glider so that could potentially be used in our basement at a later date. I can’t review it yet, since I won’t get the chance to sit in it for a few more hours-but I’m really looking forward to checking it out.
It can be overwhelming to look at all the choices. I’m glad my husband is more decisive than I am. And getting advice from the parents who have been there is a great help! I know my registry list will be easier to make thanks to the advice I’ve gotten from others!
Chelsea@TableForOne says
What a cute little baby bump! That is always so exciting to see. I am not loving HOC as much as the first 2 seasons and it is taking me a little longer to get through it, but my husband loved it and finished all of them in about a week and a half!
Daisy @ Fit Wanderlust Runner says
We finished House of Cards in a week! My husband also liked it more than I did. It did really get my attention towards the end so hang in there. Your belly pic is really adorable. I am bloated all the time and feel like I am four months pregnant all the time lol. Hope your appointment goes well! Can’t wait to find out what the sex is. 🙂
allison says
Hi Julie! I’m not sure if anyone recommended this yet, but there is a book called “Baby Bargains” which reviews all baby gear – kind of like consumer reports for baby things (each product/brand gets a letter grade A-F). It’s such a great resource and has saved me a bunch of time/money.
Julie says
Awesome!! I’ve never heard of it before!
Michelle says
I 2nd the recommendation on that book!!!
Kate says
Cometely agree that the Baby Bargains book is a lifesaver! My friend who has a 5 month old gave it to me when I told her I was pregnant (I’m 19 weeks now). My husband and I went to look at furniture this weekend. So many choices! We are going with a convertible crib. More money upfront but if it is well-built it will be a good investment.
Amanda B @ Cupcakes & Miles says
It looks like you guys had a really great weekend! And kudos to you for even signing up for the challenge- pregnant or not it sounds like it would be a big commitment.
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
We’re only two episodes in of HoC season 3, and I’m on the fence right now! Stay tuned …
Jessi Perg says
What a perfect weekend! And YUM pretzel bites, I haven’t had those in for too long. Are you going to write anymore posts about your house and how you decorated it? I loved the post you did about your home office. It came out so nice!
Julie says
thanks!! and yes, i’d love to share more! I’ve been the worst about keeping up with blogging about house updates, so thanks for the reminder!!
