Guess who fell asleep halfway through The Bachelor last night? Yes, the episode had me that interested. I DVRed the rest of the show and watched it this morning while eating breakfast. I mean who doesn’t like beginning their day watching the world’s most awkward pseudo lap dance? (Poor, poor Jamie.)
I feel like my bed time is getting earlier and earlier. I can’t even make it to 10 p.m.!
Workout
This morning’s workout came bright and early as always.
Ryan and I headed to the gym where we began our workouts with 20 minutes on the elliptical before I did the same arm workout I did on Saturday.
I ended up changing one thing in the above workout. For shoulders, I swapped the side shoulder raises for overhead presses.
I was so pumped to incorporate overhead presses back into my upper body workout because my left rotator cuff has felt sore since December’s bike accident and I’ve been playing it super safe and avoiding any exercises that tweak it in the wrong way. Finally I’m feeling much better and completed three sets of overhead presses without pain. Hooray!
Breakfast
Today’s breakfast was a new adventure for me.
I made myself a quinoa yogurt bowl!
Last night I cooked up a batch of quinoa to have on hand throughout the week and used about half of a cup of it in a yogurt bowl made with strawberry banana Chobani Greek yogurt and approximately two tablespoons of chia seeds.
I also added a splash of milk to get everything moving which, in retrospect, I wouldn’t do again. It made the mixture a little too liquidy for my liking, but it was still quite tasty!
Off to finish up a back-end blog project that sucked away nearly my entire day yesterday. I have some new blog pages that will be popping up soon, so be on the look out!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
That’s great that you’re able to do your shoulder presses again Julie! They’re my favourite move for working shoulders and I incorporate them into all my shoulder training days. Good luck with finishing up your blog project – I know how time consuming that can be! 🙂
Carissa says
I love quinoa for breakfast! I like knowing it has more protein than oatmeal but I always feel hungry so soon after I eat it. Even if I add PB! Let me know if it keeps you full!
Kelsey says
seriously, how awkward was that instructional lapdance/makeout session?? the worst part was when she ran her fingers through his hair and said ‘you have nice hair’
o m g i threw up in my hand right there, his hair has GOT to go.
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
I’ve yet to try quinoa for breakfast – I think I’d want it to be thicker, too.
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I love quinoa for breakfast, I don’t eat it nearly enough though! It’s a fun change up from the “regulars” 🙂
Stellina @ My Yogurt Addiction says
The bachelor was so awkward! I swear some girls will do anything just to be noticed (trashy much)! Can’t wait to see what pages you will be adding to the site 🙂
Ali @SeeAliEatSeeAliRun says
Haha Julie-I fell asleep last night just after 7. SEVEN! In my defense, I have a little cold and grad school has been kicking my butt lately. But jeeze!
Heather (Heather's dish) says
Oh, I bet I you toasted the quinoa in a little butter it would add a really cool texture to your bowl! Yum 🙂
Khushboo says
I love batch cooking greens- makes weekday meals all the more easier!
Mallory @ Have your cake says
agree with you- the bachelor is such a BORE this season. ben is just too nice to be on that show.
Meg @RunRideLove says
I love going to bed before 10! I should get there more often actually…
My mom always says that she thinks the ultimate luxury in life is going to bed while it is still light out (applies more in the summer…).
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I love quinoa! So I bet it tastes great at breakfast. I’ve never tried it before but I definitely think I will 🙂
Lindsey says
I love layering quinoa with Greek yogurt, peanut butter and fruit – such a yummy and filling breakfast!
Jessie says
I could not BELIEVE Jamie’s lab dance/ kissing instruction. Poor girl- that was painful t watch!
Question: Can anyone tell me where to find quinoa in the grocery store? Do normal grocery stores have it or just Whole Foods type places? Thanks!!
Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed says
I’ve gotten quinoa in my regular grocery store (Giant). It was in the healthy/organic section… but if your grocery store doesn’t have that I’d try the area with the rice and pasta… good luck!
Jessie says
Thanks! I usually go to the store in a huge hurry so I hate having to search for things.. But I’ll try! I’ve been wanting it forever!
Jenn says
I am definitely guilty of being in bed before 10 p.m. but I am up at 5 a.m. so I suppose this is okay : )
I need to take the time to cook some quinoa, it looks delish!
Joelle (On a Pink Typewriter) says
I am pooped by 9pm haha so don’t feel bad.
I like really thick yogurt bowls- I never add liquid!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
How cool! I need to try quinoa for breakfast 🙂
Kate says
When you do that arm workout, how long do you rest between each rep of one exercise and between each set of exercises? Looks like a great set of arm exercises and I’m excited to try it!
Jana @ Newly Wife Healthy Life says
I am actually making quinoa for the first time tonight! I am excited to see how it goes and I love the thought of incorporating it into breakfast too! Ahh last night watching Jamie and Ben was so awkward, it was like a train wreck. I wanted to look away, but I just couldn’t! Lol
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I LOVE quinoa at breakfast–so delicious! It’s good for almost any meal.
That arm workout looks stellar!
Roz @ Fit Blogging for Fun, Family & Profit says
Never had quinoa for breakfast, looks yum! I would rather have it thicker too. Your tricep workout made mine seem so much more sore…body pump yesterday had kickbacks, those always get me sore!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
There’s a place here in Chicago called the Protein Bar that makes quinoa bowls for breakfast! IT’s about a cup of quinoa with some agave syrup, a teeny bit of milk I think, and then topped with nuts and fruit of your choice. It’s so delicious!
Hilliary @Happily Ever Healthy says
I have been meaning to try quinoa for breakfast! Sounds delicious!
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
try oven toasting it and slow cooking it overnight in your crock pot and adding your flavorings in the morning. it “should” be fluffier and less liquidy.
Carol @ Lucky Zucca says
I’m excited to see the new blog pages! You are so creative with incorporating grain into your breakfasts. I always default to either oatmeal, bagel or granola.
Alysha @shesontherun.com says
I’ve never made quinoa before (actually, I’ve only tried it once). I’ve gotta see why everyone is so crazy about this grain.
Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed says
If I got up at the crack of dawn like you, I would go to bed at 10 or earlier as well! If I get in bed before 11, it’s early… sad but true.
I haven’t tried quinoa for bfast yet, but I do have some laying around waiting to be used!
Briana says
How did you cook the quinoa? Water, broth?
Sasha says
Morning, I LOVE quinoa, but only recently started eating it for breakfast. Last week, I took an egg, milk and peanut butter and mixed it all together, added some cooked quinoa and cinnamon and divided between little ramekins and baked for about 30 minutes!
So good!
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
Awkward pseudo lapdance?! I think I need to start watching The Bachelor! lol
Jordan@almondjay says
I can’t wait to try that arm workout tomorrow!
Heather @ Get Healthy with Heather says
Hooray for overhead shoulder presses! It’s great to be able to do things you couldn’t before!
Stefanie-Anne says
I’m very curious… how did those wedding photos turn out?
The one that you were the “sub” model for?
We would all love to see them 🙂
Sarah says
do you and ryan go to the gym together super easy bc of his work? I go to bed early too…love a good morning!
Kerry @ Totes My Oats says
I’ve never had quinoa as part of a breakfast but it looks yummy!
K says
When do you work your back?
Lauren @ Vaguely Vegan says
Watching The Bachelor last night before bed was bad enough, but you woke up and had to witness all of that awkward-ness. That’s bad. It was so painful to watch!
natalie @ southern fit foodie says
On Sunday night, I went to bed at 9:30! I love staying up late, but since my alarm goes off before 5 a.m. each day, I force myself to get to bed early. 🙂
I’m so glad your shoulder is feeling better!
Katie says
I have done this type of breakfast before & wasn’t too thrilled with the texture, BUT if you let the chia seeds sit for about 30 minutes, I think it helps a lot 🙂
Jen @ Whittle My Middle says
That yogurt quinoa bowl looks like a great idea!
Lindsey @ Cardio Pizza says
I’m curious – you don’t seem to include any back exercises in your strength routines. Any reason for that?
peanutbutterfingers says
i try to do it on upper body days when i remember, but i seem to forget a lot. i need to make it more of a priority! i miss bodypump & the way that class always included back! also the machines at my gym are a lot more popular than free weights, so the ones i use for back exercises (such as lat pulldowns) are often busy, so i just move on to the next thing and forget to go back. i actually need to do more chest AND back exercises!
Lindsey @ Cardio Pizza says
You could always do bent over dumbbell or barbell rows, one arm rows, reverse flies or back extensions on a mat. Just a few ideas 🙂
Emily @ Glitz Glam Granola says
Omg I think that was the most awkward moment in Bachelor history- I was sitting on my house cringing! I feel bad for her that her awkward, awkward moment had to be shared with the nation… eek. And I love quinoa but haven’t had it for breakfast before! It sounds awesome though and so easy!
Heather says
I love quinoa! I actually did a post about it yesterday as well.
pluvk says
Thanks for the workout! I hurt my calves today, so this’ll be perfect!
Eileen says
Just made this quinoa bowl for breakfast tomorrow! Pina Colada style… pineapple chobani and shreadded coconut added to quinoa. Thanks for the recipe!
