Good morning! Despite a late morning annual appointment with the lady doctor, I’m hoping today will be a good and productive day.
With Christmas right around the corner, I’m trying to get a lot of my freelance projects that are due around the holidays completely done before Thursday of next week. So far I’m on course! Yesterday I was in the zone and my brain feels on target today, too.
Workout
Today’s workout began with 20 minutes on the elliptical before it was time to conquer a tough upper body workout.
I did three sets of 15 repetitions of the following (listed in random order):
- Chest press on exercise ball
- Mac raises
- Upright rows
- Tricep extensions
- Bicep curls (3 min. non-stop)
- Various shoulder exercises (3 min. non-stop)
- Bicep curls
- Tricep pulldowns
I rounded out my gym time with 100 various crunches on the ball plus two rounds of holding my body in the plank position for 60 seconds.
Burn baby, burn!
Breakfast
After a quick shower, it was time for a hot egg sandwich!
The usual = two eggs + muenster cheese + raspberry jelly
In honor of my annual visit to the women’s doctor (I tell you this to hopefully remind someone out there to make this important appointment!), I made today’s question about our favorite doctors…
Question of the Morning
Rank the following doctors in order of the one you would most like to see to the one you absolutely dread seeing the most:
- Dentist
- Gynecologist
- Physician
- Dermatologist
I would pick the dentist first because my dentist is awesome and I trust him 100 percent not to hurt me. Number two would be the dermatologist (I had an awesome experience with one doctor who called my butt my “fanny” and it still makes me laugh). Number three would be the gyno followed by a regular physician. I hate needles and am terrified of them and would worry that a regular physician would find some reason to stick me.
Lena @ Fit on the Rocks says
My order would be dentist, gyno, and regular. I’ve never gone to see a dermatologist, but I would hope that’s not too scary. I recently got my roommate to try the jam on the egg sandwich, and she loved it!
Lauren says
Number one is definitely the dentist, but maybe that’s because it’s my hubby and I know he’ll take care of me. 🙂 Plus I love how clean my teeth are after!
Number two would be dermatologist I guess, but I’ve only been there once and that was in college.
Number three would be lady doctor. Super nice and friend of the family but who really enjoys that visit?
Number four is physician. Needles and needing medication are never fun combos.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
1. Dentist – despite all my cavities, I LOVE the office!
2. Physician – they don’t do too much to me
3. Lady Doctor. HATE IT.
I’ve never been a dermatologist but I’m pretty sure it should rank higher than the lady doctor.
Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) says
Hmmm…. I’d say first dentist (he’s my best friend from hs’s dad!), derm, lady doc and then physician.. But overall, doc appointments are no bueno.
chelsea says
My gyno would be number 1! She’s awesome haha 🙂 She’s a doctor you can just sit and talk to for hours and she won’t make you feel rushed at all. I had a weird pap smear once that turned out false and she really helped me calm down when another doctor made me flip poop pretty much.
Dentist is next! Just because they’re so nice 🙂
Physician next just because I RARELY go.
Than last is dermatologist because I’ve never been haha.
Hannah says
Dentist is by far my favorite! Maybe it’s because I still go to the kiddie dentist&i get to watch all the new disney movies while I wait for him to come check my teeth! I’ve never been to the gyno or the derm but I’d rank both of those above my physician, absolutely hate her. This post made me start to wonder when it was the last time i saw my dentist, maybe I’ll do that over xmas break 😉
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
ha what a question! this is tough considering no doctor’s appointment ever makes me super thrilled… my list would go like this:
1) dentist – i’ve never really minded the dentist (unless i have a cavity, that is!)
2) dermatologist – i don’t go to one anymore, but when i used to, it never bothered me. i actually looked forward to it so he could help me with my acne back then.
3) physician – i rarely go to a regular physician…
4) gyno – just not a fan of the pap smears and all that other “fun” stuff!
Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon says
1) Dermatologist–she’s so sweet and nice!
2) Gyno- he’s very calm and reassuring and doesn’t make me feel uncomfortable
3) Dentist- I take good care of my teeth so nothing to worry about!
4) Physician- She makes me feel like I’m doing everything wrong!
Elisabeth says
1. Dentist – I’ve never minded going to the dentist, even when I’ve had to get a filling
2. Dermatologist
3. GP/Physician – Needles/blood/shots don’t bother me (actually, I draw blood myself as part of my job – MLS – so it shouldn’t!)
4. Gynecologist
Andrea @ Andrea Out Loud! says
My first choice would be: dentist
then: physician
then: derma (I have never been to a dermatologist so I dunno what to expect!)
then: gyno – not really a fan!
I dont mind the dentist at all, my bf hates them though and says he would rather have to get surgery than go to the dentist haha
Hillary says
I am not scared of the other three, but the dentist is by far the last. As I have gotten older, (I’m 25) my fear of him grows more and more. I haven’t had any major problems or horrible experiences, and my dentist is actually my dad’s best friend who I have known since birth. I just can’t explain it but I dread it every six months and will make any excuse to delay it another week! Total irrational fear, and I have actually looked into sedation dentistry. People think I am crazy haha!
Meg @RunRideLove says
I agree! I hate the density so much that I got our entire family kicked out of the best dentist in town (my dad was not happy). My mom would make me an appointment, I would get the reminder phone call, and I would just not show up. By the fourth or fifth time, he refused to see anyone in our immediate family. I wish I could say I was sorry.
Ruthie Hart says
I know it may be weird but I don’t mind my gyno! I actually see the nurse practitioner and I love her!! We always chat about celebs, vacations, marriage. I really hope that she can deliver my babies when we get pregnant! I HATE the dentist. It just makes me nervous!
April says
Physician, Dermatologist, Gynecologist, Dentist (for some reason I HATE going to the dentist – has always been a weird issue for me)
Rebecca says
Dentist, Gyno, Dermatologist, Physician. I hate going to the doctor. I know they’re meant to fix everyone’s most basic problems, but I only associate them with bearer’s of bad news and never had that awesome of experiences with them. They always want to take my blood and I just hate it!
Jodi @ Southern Flavored Life says
I would definitely put the gynecologist on the bottom of my list! 🙂
I really hate going to any kind of doctor, though.
Carley says
A. derm always. She makes everything look better!
B. Physician. I go to a rural doctor and she takes more of a wholistic approach making sure everything is working perfectly.
C. Dentist. Who can complain about sparklin’ teeth?!
D. Gyno- despise this place. OUCH.
Jordan says
Optometrist first and foremost! I LOVE the eye doctor. I used to want to study to become one.
Then physician – needles don’t bother me in the slightest!
The dermatologist isn’t so bad, though the last time I visited one I had to get a giant wart frozen off. Pretty painful.
The last ones on my list would be the gynecologist and dentist. I literally DREAD dentist appointments. The sound of that little drill makes me cringe and I swear I can feel the pain every time, even with the anesthetic. Then I start sweating like crazy and try not to have a meltdown.
Kelly says
1)Dentist (yes I’m another one of those crazy people that likes going)
2) Gyno
3) PCP
*Never been to Derm
I’m really good about going to my dentist every 6 months. Despite a few issues, I still find cleanings relaxing. As for the other appointments, I’m amazing at putting them off. I lost insurance for a while then it kept changing with new jobs, so finding a new doc that I’m comfortable with as been a struggle. I will make that gyno appt. this week!
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile says
Dentist is my #1 !!! MY mom is my hygientist and I always ask when the next time she can clean my teeth is. I love the feeling after a cleaning, haha I’m weird.
sherri says
Maybe I’m weird too but I LOVE going to the dentist! Totally agree on the clean teeth feeling (not that they’re not clean the rest of the year! haha). But honestly I dread the gynecologist. Even after having 2 kids you’d think it wouldn’t be such a big deal anymore but i just hate it.
Allison says
Ugh! I hate the gyno! I had my appt yesterday and hated every second of it. Metal things don’t belong down there. It makes me sick just thinking about it.
Paul Alexander says
That looks delicious! Love my dentist, I have a great time there. Hate the cavities though.
Life As Wife says
I thought after having my son and letting the whole world see my – um fanny that going to the Gyno would be easier.
Nope, still uncomfortable!
laurel says
Gyno- not bc I like the gyno, but bc I love my doctor
Dermatologist- love her too
Doctor- love him, but I could live without the wait
Dentist- my dental plan sucks and I hate my dentist bc it is a dental mill and they suck at dental work (can you tell I don’t like it there?) I used to have a cool dentist who tried setting me up with his son.
Amanda @FancyOatmeal says
I normally would have said I would prefer my dentist first, but I switched and the hygienist talks through the whole cleaning; it takes her an extra 40 minutes because she keeps talking with her hands! But here is my list:
1. Regular Dr/gyno – I love her! She calls me Angel
3. Dermatologist
4. Dentist
Amanda Z says
Just wondering how much weight you use on bicep curls. Thanks!
Mary says
fun question 🙂
1. dermatologist (the office has amazing windows views + the doc has perfect skin to admire)
2. physician (sometimes i can still score stickers from the kids section…)
3. dentist (my jaw gets so sore!)
4. gyno (i had such a bad experienc last time!)
Mary says
(by the way, i love the little black smiley face on the top right corner of your blog! so subtle, but whenever i notice it, it makes me smile)
peanutbutterfingers says
i love that you notice it!
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
I hate going to the dentist! I would much rather go to the lady doctor. Weird?
Amy says
hmmm definitely dermatologist first (never been to one so they sound okay), physician (assuming nothing crazy is wrong), dentist, gyno. how can gyno not be last? its just awkward and uncomfortable no matter how nice the dr is!
Charlie- The Runner Beans says
I would say
1.Physician
2. Dermatologist
3.Dentist -awesome dentist, terrible teeth
4.Gyno- lovely lady but I get embarrassed easily. I had a bad early experience with a bad doctor!
Does your gym have power plates? And if so do you ever use them for your exercises, like the plank?
Hillary says
I hate, hate, HATE the dentist and gynecologist equally. Gah. But I love my physician, so she’d probably be my #1. And–I’m sorry to admit this–I haven’t seen a dermatologist since I was nine years old. Whoops. I should probably get on that, eh?
Mary @ food and fun on the run says
1. Dentist
2. Dermatologist
3. Physician
4. Gyno – I hate going! I always have to wait forever, and not to mention all the other obvious reasons!!
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
haha fun question!
1. physician (even though I’m starting to not care about needles. kind of.) He’s an awesome dr.! Cares sooo much about the individual.
2. dentist
3. don’t have dermatologist but I wouldn’t mind
4. gyno (never been b/c I never needed to! But I prob. should soon~) 0_0 I’m so scared!!!
Amber K says
Physician – I go in every month to get my thyroid checked and it’s always quick and painless.
Dentist – Mine is actually gentle and awesome. Still not my favorite thing, but I kick back and pretend I’m at the spa getting a beauty treatment that isn’t pleasant but will make me look and feel better. (even though I’ve never actually been to a spa or had a beauty treatment before, lol)
Gynecologist – I’ve only been once (for the first time this year) and it was awful. But necessary.
I’m not going to include the dermatologist because I’ve never seen one.
Dani says
I actually LOVE going to see doctors. I’ve pretty much had good or neutral experiences, and it’s a reassurance that nothing is terribly wrong.
And, I kind of think it’s a little silly to sit here and complain about doctors… many people don’t have health coverage, or don’t even have access to it… think about it… they would kill to be in our shoes.
Emily says
Regular physician- My doctor is awesome! She is from Croatia and is a HOOT! Not only is she very talented in what she does but she is SO caring. She’s always running like 30 minutes behind schedule because she likes to talk to her patients about other things than what they are there for that day. Example: one of my best friends passed away and she sat there and cried with me after my exam was over. Some people may think that’s too personal, but she’s great.
Dermatologist- I sometimes have a tiny eczema flare up on my face, nothing serious, but I love getting free samples of face wash and moisturizer!
OB/GYN- It’s once a year, so I don’t think it’s that bad. The stirrups with funny socks always make me laugh.
Dentist- NAILS ON A CHALBOARD. It gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it.
Emily says
chalkboard* 🙂
Linda says
How do you time yourself when you an exercise at the gym for 2 minutes? Do you use a stop watch, watch the clock? I’ve never been a good judge of time and always struggle with that.
Laura says
I have a fear of doctors…a strong fear of anything medical. So physician rarely happens…if ever, I have to be in a lot (a lot!) of pain. Gyno has never happened, no undressing for me.
Of the last two, the dermatolist is the only I willing go to. I have a skin disorder and sadly have only found medication to help in any way. So I have to for prescriptions. Then the dentist, I dread going to mainly because they always find cavities no matter how much I floss and brush. Everyone at the dentist’s is nice and all but they just have it out for my teeth.
Carol @ Lucky Zucca says
Good luck finishing up your freelance projects!!! I’m with you on the needles… but the lady dr is pretty uncomfortable for me, so I’d have to rank her last even though I love mine! She’s totally awesome and since I have to go, I’m glad it is to her!
Erin @ GoBananasBlog says
I love my dermatologist! I’m very particular about not getting a lot of sun so she loves me! She also will get me in for appts when she has the day off. Next would probably be physician, dentist then gyno.
Serena says
I love going to my Optometrist!!
heather says
oh, julie, you come up with the craziest stuff. i’m still laughing about the sadie and gender post.
the dermatologist is least intrusive, so i’ll say that.
don’t mind the physician either.
i do not mind the dentist. i love going to get my teeth cleaned. i have a few sensitive spots behind my lower front teeth, so sometimes that gets me a bit.
i do not like the gyno. i DO go every year, but it is very uncomfortable and um, exposing. this last summer, after a normal pap, i was told that it would be ‘good’ for 3 years. new recommendations, i guess? maybe it depends on age. i’m a good 10-15 years older than you. some things get better when you get old 🙂
and it’s totally not fun and almost yet more uncomfortable when you go the ob for those checkups every week toward the end of pregnancy.
Kayla says
I think that you should always find a doctor you love- if you don’t like the way they work, that’s not good for you OR for your body. Its like buying a wedding dress- a commitment to your wedding, a commitment to your health. You only get one body!
Anyways, I loooove my primary care physician. She always makes me laugh so hard, but knows when to be serious. I aspire to be a doctor just like her one day! Dentists are scary!
Anna says
Haha wow! I’m surprised that so many ladies are saying they love the gynaecologist :O
I’ve never been, but Im dreading it already and would probably haateeee it *shy*
1. Dentist (even though I’d be scared of bad news)
2. General physician
I’m not even sure of that order haha. I’ve never been to a derm either
jennyv says
I only see two doctors —
1. Chiropractor — as long as my nervous system is functioning 100%, I’m going to stay healthy!! 🙂
2. Dentist — I don’t mind going for the cleaning, but if there’s any follow-up appointments, I do not want to go!
Colleen says
The eye doctor is my favorite. I get to keep my clothes on and he never causes me any pain!
adrianna says
what about the eye doctor?! 🙂
Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats says
My rankings go dentist, physician, gynecologist, and dermatologist. I am scarred for life from the dermatologist because in kindergarten I had to have 16 warts burned off/shots poked into my hands and under my fingernails. I remember laying in the backseat of my grandma’s car crying all the way home.
Allison says
Numero uno: dentist! Everything about it gives me the chills: the drilling, the filling, the scraping, the poking and proding… No thanks, I’ll pass!
