Good morning! Despite a late morning annual appointment with the lady doctor, I’m hoping today will be a good and productive day.
With Christmas right around the corner, I’m trying to get a lot of my freelance projects that are due around the holidays completely done before Thursday of next week. So far I’m on course! Yesterday I was in the zone and my brain feels on target today, too.
Workout
Today’s workout began with 20 minutes on the elliptical before it was time to conquer a tough upper body workout.
I did three sets of 15 repetitions of the following (listed in random order):
- Chest press on exercise ball
- Mac raises
- Upright rows
- Tricep extensions
- Bicep curls (3 min. non-stop)
- Various shoulder exercises (3 min. non-stop)
- Bicep curls
- Tricep pulldowns
I rounded out my gym time with 100 various crunches on the ball plus two rounds of holding my body in the plank position for 60 seconds.
Burn baby, burn!
Breakfast
After a quick shower, it was time for a hot egg sandwich!
The usual = two eggs + muenster cheese + raspberry jelly
In honor of my annual visit to the women’s doctor (I tell you this to hopefully remind someone out there to make this important appointment!), I made today’s question about our favorite doctors…
Question of the Morning
Rank the following doctors in order of the one you would most like to see to the one you absolutely dread seeing the most:
- Dentist
- Gynecologist
- Physician
- Dermatologist
I would pick the dentist first because my dentist is awesome and I trust him 100 percent not to hurt me. Number two would be the dermatologist (I had an awesome experience with one doctor who called my butt my “fanny” and it still makes me laugh). Number three would be the gyno followed by a regular physician. I hate needles and am terrified of them and would worry that a regular physician would find some reason to stick me.
Tiffany says
i learned the sandwich combo from you and am eating right this second 🙂 but..how do you always make your eggs so nice looking?! I should win an award for the ugliest egg..it’s basically scrambled..
peanutbutterfingers says
i spray the pan w/ cooking spray and let the eggs cook over a medium high heat until the sides start to become solid, then i flip them all at once! sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t! 🙂 i also used a very small pan so the eggs can’t spread very far.
Margaret @ Have A Good Run says
I had this EXACT same question — thanks for answering! 🙂
Lindsay @ In Sweetness and In Health says
Hmm…I actually don’t mind my physicians! My regular doctor is also my lady doctor and she is fabulous…so I guess she would be number one, and then my dentist. And I don’t have a dermatologist but I think I need to go to one because my back has been breaking out really bad :(. So not attractive! Good luck with all of your work!
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
I’m a freak with hypochondriac tendencies, so I actually love going to all doctors- haha. I just like to hear that every little bump or spot I’ve found on me is normal. What a weirdo, I know 🙂
Glenneth says
1. Physician – i love my regular doctor – he rocks
2. Gynocologist – he is pretty cool, we talk about traveling
3. Dermatologist – don’t see one regularly
4. Dentist – absolutely DREAD the dentist, i usually leave with a massive headache and i take medicine before i go to try and help
Molly says
I talk about traveling with my gyno too! One time I saw him at a ski resort and couldn’t remember who he was. I told my whole family, “I can’t remember where I know that guy from, I’m gonna ask him, it’s bugging me” So I asked him in front of both our families… he said that he delivered babies for a living… then I remembered!
Amanda says
LOL! That’s awesome!!
Katie says
That’s a great story!! =D
Brandi @ The Vitamin Bee says
Physician, Dentist, Dermatologist, Lady Doctor.
My number one would actually be the allergist (I see them once a week for shots) bc they help me a lot. I also like my podiatrist since I spent so much time in there with an achilles injury. He even started recommending books to me 🙂
Lady Doctor is always on the bottom for me because they play these scary pregnancy videos in the lobby which give me waaaaayyy too much information.
Jill @ A Cook's Nook says
I have to agree with your order & I hate needles too. I used to be such a wimp that the smell of rubbing alcohol alone would make me pass out. Lame, I know.
I’m better at it now, but still need to watch…which still makes me pass out! God help me when I have kids!
Andrea says
Hello! Thank you for being the ONLY other person I’ve heard that likes the dentist.
Nothing feels better than having clean teeth, if I could go every morning I would.
Jenny says
I haaaaate the dentist. why do their tools need to be so friggin sharp!! On the other hand, I happen purposely try to become best friends with my dermatologist. You can pop in whenever, and they will hit you up with emergency cortisone shots or free lotion samples. It rocks.
Bethany @ More Fruit Please says
I really don’t mind most doctors. I’ve usually had all positive experiences at my appointments. And maybe it helps that my mom works at a doctor’s office. With that said though, I usually put off dentist appointments as long as possible. My dentist is great, I just really hate going through those appointments! Oh, and you left another sometimes-dreaded doctor off the list – the eye doctor!
Stacey says
We have a common task to conquer today!!! Gynie appts on the schedule!!! Too funny! Have a great day!
peanutbutterfingers says
yeehaw! 😀
khushboo says
Dentist is the only one I see regularly and I love mine..although I can’t understand why she wants to make convo when I am in no position to respond hehe
Kristin says
Obviously dentist first, since my dentist and my boyfriend are the same person :p makes for fun teeth cleanings! Then physician, dermatologist, and last of course is the gyno! (And I don’t even have a dermatologist…shows how much I don’t like going to the gyno haha! 🙂
Molly says
That’s so cool that your dentist is your boyfriend! I’m jealous
Maribeth @ LOVEmyHANDLES says
A good dentist is definitely the key to a pleasant visit. I’m trying to work hard in school so that people won’t hate me and will want to come back for a visit, lol.
The gyno to me is the worst!! I love my doctor, but hate that uncomfortable experience. And the waiting room with all the diagrams and pictures make me gag slightly. A great form of birth control is showing kids how your cervix expands. Gives me the shivers thinking about it
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
i don’t mind the doctor! i love love love my ob/gyn — she is the best, and the other 3… eh, i can suck it up once a year!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
I like all my doctors actually! Hahah my mom has a crush on our dentist…its hilarious 🙂
Bess @ Bess Be Fit says
My lady doc appointment is next week! Always around Christmas time, I think from when I came home from college to get it done?? Oh well, my gyno is awesome and she’s hysterical. I’m making sure to go see her in NC while I’m there for Christmas because I don’t want to find another in NJ! Also, male gynos kind of freak me out, can I just say that? I don’t really get it. Anyways, I would say dentist is my least favorite of those appointments, I’m not scared of needles or anything like that so other doctors don’t bother me!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
I love my dentist too! My list would go:
1. Dentist
2. Dermatologist
3. Gynaecologist
4. Physician -> Like you, I just get a feeling that they’d find some reason to put me in pain!!
Hope says
Ugh, I hate going to doctors! Good luck with your appointment today! 🙂 Here is my rank:
1.) Physician
2.) Dermatologist
3.) Dentist
4.) Gynocologist
Sabrina says
Ek, I get the creepies when I go to any dr’s office, but my personal order would be:
1. Dentist
2. Dermatologist
3. Physician
4. Gynecologist
Cheryl says
Gynocologist
Dermatologist
Physician
Dentist
For my the Gyno is the easiest to see since its a quick appointment and nothing usually happens… the dentist is the worst since its usually bad news and pain
Hilliary @Happily Ever Healthy says
I would say dentist, dermatologist, physician and then gyno. I just feel so uncomfortable at the gyno and always work myself up before!
Sara says
First, what is a mac raise? I’ve checked on youtube and can’t find a demo of one. You use it in a lot of strength routines, and I love trying out your stuff, I just don’t know how to do one!
As far as dr’s, I don’t have a derm, but the others…
Physician
Dentist
Gyn (worst ever!!)
Geneva says
I don’t really mind going to any doctors. I actually love going to the dentist (I just love the way my teeth feel afterwards), so definately my number one pick. Next I would say my gynocologist, he’s really cool and really knows what he’s talking about (I used to think that male lady doctors couldn’t possibly understand lady stuff). Last is my regular physician but only because every time I go I have to wait at least 20 minutes in the lobby and then another 20 minutes in one of the rooms. I don’t see a dermatologist so I can’t comment on that on.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
LOVE that sandwich combo!! SO good. ANd that workout looks awesome 🙂
I’d say 1. Dentist 2. Derm 3. Physician 4. Gyno
Sarah says
I love my gyno, so she is by far my favorite person to see. She is hilarious and we have quite a history (aka she delivered me, scary right?!?!). Everyone else I could care less to see. I don’t mind my dentist because she is so efficient, but everyone else I don’t love (aka don’t have a relationship with) and therefore don’t like seeing them.
Amanda says
I would say my dentist is first… he’s awesome! Then my gyno (surprise I know, but I go to her for everything). and Physician then dermatologist because it’s like a days worth of waiting to see her! ARGH!
Faith @ For the Health of It says
I’m fine with all of my doctors. I just started seeing a new totally awesome “woman doctor,” and she’s the first one I’ve actually loved. She was talking to me about vegetarian nutrition and was the first health professional I’ve been to that seemed not to look down on my meatless choices. LOVE that!
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers says
I’d pick the dermatologist first because I like my guy. He gets me in and out really fast, which I really respect. Any of the other three are all awful and slow.
Meg says
I may be totally wierd but I LOVE the dentist…I get excited for dentist appointments. Don’t know why, always have. Maybe it’s because when I was little they let me pick something out of the “treasure box” when my appointment was over. All kinds of cool stuff- spider rings, lollipops (yes, at the dentist!) and shenaniganss 😛
HRCK says
Good question!
Worst to Best:
Dentist (I don’t HATE it, but it just takes a long time)
Girl parts doctor (not AWFUL, just not pleasant)
Physician (don’t mind shots, but same with dentist, just takes a while)
Dermatologist (quick and painless!)
Anna says
Oh I do not mind seeing the dermatologist, but hate the dentist … I am always afraid I’ll have cavities! I used to hate the gyno but kind of got over it when I realized it usually doesn’t take long at all.
Lindsey says
Dentist, Gynecologist, Dermatologist, Physician.
Kaella Carr/Neithercut says
Physician (I see mine once a week and he and his assistant have become like my family!) Even though I’m there to be poked with needles (for my Crohn’s disease) I don’t mind it b/c we always have such great conversations and I love catching up with them
Dentist: I love the clean teeth feeling!!
Gyno: I feel better after I go; esp b/c I had an abnormal pap and for the last three years have had to have a few biopsy’s and laser procedures to get rid of pre-cancerous cells. Get your paps ladies!!!
Dermatologist: Never been to one…
Cool Question!!
dana says
Dermatologist
Physician
Gynocologist
Dentist
I loathe the Dentist!
Janine @ThePurpleGiraffe says
Physician
Gyno
Dermatologist
Dentist…
I need a new dentist, the one I go to is pure evil.
Angela @ Health, Happiness & Harmony says
Dermatologist
Gynocologist
Physician
Dentist
After the whole near death experience with my wisdom teeth surgery, I literally tear up the moment I see the chair!
Erin says
You must have only been to the derm for very minor things because they use way more needles (and other scary things) way more than an average physician, I think! I had such a bad experience that I started crying as soon as I got to the parking lot. Waited forever, had 6 people come into my tiny room (and not to observe, it’s the way they do it) then the older doctor yelled at me, told me I probably had skin cancer, and then pinched me!
Erin says
I didn’t mean to reply to this comment! Sorry!
Michelle @ Blogitness says
I don’t like needles or blood, but I really don’t mind any of the doctors I see. My favorites are probably the doctors I see every time I injure myself (which is way too often).
cheryl says
i see WAY too many docs. it matters SO much how they talk to you…rambled on such musings here: http://clg1213.blogspot.com/2010/03/doctor-talk.html
i’ve never been to a derm. for a routine visit, i guess dentist (umm…no scale!!!), gyn, physician….
Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled says
I’d totally have to go with:
Regular doctor
Dentist
Gyno
Dermatologist
I once had to go to a hematologist and that was the worst because they had to take a bunch of blood over and over in a six week period. Not pleasant.
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
1. Dentist (b/c I’ve never had a cavity!)
2. Gyno
3. Physician
4. Derm (every single one I’ve ever been to dismisses me in about 5 minutes, charges an INSANE amount of $ and just writes a prescription for some sort of steroid. Rip offs!
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
having 2 kids I could pretty much eat a meal while the professional vag toucher goes to work.
The derm is always REALLY looking at me and I don’t like it.
The PMD is going to give me a flu shot
the dentist is the devil.
Rachel @ On The Bright Side says
Ha! People’s synonyms for butt crack me up. Top 3 favs: Derriere, buns, rump. Now I have the song “…don’t want none unless you got buns, hon! You can do side bends or sittups, but please don’t lose that butt!” Ohhhh old school rap.
Holly says
Dermatologist because I’m ALWAYS terrified that they are going to find skin cancer. I’m a HUGE chicken when I go. I get all nervous & my heart starts beating like crazy- I actually have to warn the nurse when she takes my blood pressure that it is going to be high because my heart is racing. Ha! Thankfully I have a really good Dermatologist..so that helps ease my nervousness.
Mellissa says
1. Physician – I only go about once a year, so no big deal
2. Gynocologist – He is ok. No real positive or negative feelings
3. Dermatologist – I don’t have one
4. Dentist – No. I hate the dentist and have to get the gas just to get in the chair without having a panic attack.
Sarah M. says
1. Gynecologist
2. Physician
3. Dentist
4. Dermatologist
I love my gynecologist! She is the BEST! She listens, she’s informative, and proactive. I have to rank the dermo last only because after 8 years of seeing one for acne issues, I don’t miss it. Chemical face peels every 2 months in high school is NOT my cup of tea. Thank god that’s over!
lauren says
i hate to be nitpicky, but as a medical student, i always have to make these kinds of comments: both gynecologists and dermatologists ARE physicians. i just don’t want people to get confused about this! what you mean by “physician” is actually referred to as primary care or family practice. “physician” is simply a term meant to distinguish people who have doctorates in the study of medicine (MDs or DOs) from people who have their doctorates in other fields such as dentistry etc.
as for the question, i LOVE going to the dentist even though i’ve had quite a few cavities lately. well, i guess what i really love is going to the dental hygienist haha- i just love that clean feeling!
Kayla says
Thank you for differentiating! That always bugs me as well.
Lindsay C says
I have my annual appt. with the lady doctor this week too! And yesterday had my 6 month check up at the dentist – trying to get them all taken care of!
I would say….
Best is dentist (usually pretty painless)
Next is lady doctor (not painful just awkward)
Last is regular doctor (usually means I am sick)
Never been to dermatolgist!
Good luck today, Julie!
Gabby @ Gabby's Gluten-Free says
I would say my doctor rankings are….
1. My sports med doctor: I see her (too) often, but I love the entire team there. They are so sweet and funny.
2. Dentist: My dentist is a hilarious family friend – he even came to my wedding and gave me a very, very nice bottle of champagne when I graduated college
3. Lady doc: she is super nice but well, it’s never fun
4. Regular doc: Nice guy, it usually means I’m sick though.
Rebecca @ Naturally Healthy and Gorgeous says
As a med student, I would hope that going to see any doctor wouldn’t be scary!
Jenny says
Definitely:
Dentist (Love mine and he is hot too – makes the appt all the more bearable 😉 )
Lady Dr – I’m probably jinxing it but my appts there usually go quickly so I don’t mind them – I go on Thursday so we will see if I did jinx it!
Regular Dr – I don’t mind those appointments because they are few and far between
Dermatologist – mine is a little weird and it just makes the whole experience awkward. Not to mention the huge scar I have on my back from him removing a mole!
