Today Ryan had plans to golf with some coworkers after work.
So what did I do to entertain myself since I have no friends in Ocala yet and didn’t feel like bumming around in the hotel room?
Well, first I ate dinner at the hotel buffet. Kind of. I picked at the dinner before throwing in the towel and making myself a peanut butter and jelly bagelwich back in the room. And then the fun began!
I took my boo-tay to Barnes & Nobel to pick out a new book! (I finished The Glass Castle yesterday. Review to come!)
I selected this book based on your recommendations and reviews I read. Hopefully it’s a winner.
Two things before we move on to my next solo activity of the night:
- I need an Ocala address so I can get a library card. I’ve spent $45 on books since we’ve been here! $15 a book x 3 adds up!
- Would you guys have any interest in a PBF book club? I could pick a book (using your recommendations) and announce it on the blog. Then, a month or so later, I would review it and ask questions that we could all discuss in the comments section of the post? Yay? Nay?
Moving right along to my next activity…
I took myself on a fro yo date!
Mochi was crowded, but not unbearable this evening, so I waited patiently and got myself a cup of chocolate, cake batter and carrot cake frozen yogurt, topped with Heath bar and Butterfinger bits, Oreos and Cap’n Crunch cereal.
Someone please tell me why so many fro yo places don’t have whipped cream as a topping option? Why? I just don’t understand.
Random fun fact: My dad calls whipped cream out of the can “vitamins.” Whenever we have ice cream sundaes at home he always asks us if we’d like them topped with some “vitamins.”
Speaking of vitamins, I am seriously addicted to Adora chocolate calcium disks. Yesterday I ate eight over the course of the day. Eight. That can’t be good.
Off to look up the dangers of consuming too much calcium…

Yes! Bookclub all the way! Except for I’ve read the last 4 books you’ve read a while ago, I’m just afraid it will be one I’ve already read. I have a lot of time to read when my little one is sleeping;)
peanutbutterfingers says
you could still definitely weigh in on the discussion even if you read it a long time ago!
Courtney @ The Granola Chronicles says
You’re going to love The Kite Runner. I read it back in college – it’s great. I must say, that there are some sections in the book that are very hard to read. I’m super sensitive to graphic images – and the descriptions in the book are very, very intense.
It’s a very powerful book though with a strong message – I think you’ll enjoy it!
Katie says
Hey, Julie! I have never left you a comment until now, but I’ve been religiously following your blog for a few months. I absolutely love your positive outlook on life and you have inspired me to start my own blog (I’m sure you here that often, though).
Anyway, I would love to participate in a PBF book club! I’m a Language Arts teacher and love to read, so I think that would be a lot of fun!
peanutbutterfingers says
thank you for commenting, katie! 🙂 i’m glad you’re interested in a book club and started a blog!
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
I’m jealous of your fro yo date. I want some 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
my fro yo date with… no one? yeah, i’m cool like that. 🙂
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
That just means more for you 😉
Danielle @ Dish'n'dash says
I was just thinking yesterday that a blog book club would be fun! Sign me up!
The Kite Runner is a fantastic book. I hate giving away my books but that one I was more than willing to pass along so others can experience it as well.
Bri says
The Kite Runner is an amazing book!! You should read A Thousand Splendid Suns next — it’s by the same author. I think it’s the better of the two books!
Kaitlyn (College Girl Runs) says
I agree with Bri…after the Kite Runner read A Thousand Splendid Suns! So good and thought provoking! The Kite Runner is also a movie, so you could watch that after reading the book 🙂
J @ ... semplicemente j ... says
I am in for the book club!!!!
Michelle says
I would absolutely love a PBF book club! I’ve always wanted to join one but there’s not one in my area with members under 50!
peanutbutterfingers says

Oh my goodness, haha! My dad calls chocolate milk “medicine”. In the evening, after dinner, he’ll grab the Hershey’s chocolate syrup and a glass of milk and make chocolate milk and all the little ones are like “Dad, dad! Can I have some?” and he says no, because it’s his “medicine”.
🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
I think our dads are long lost BFFs.
Alexa says
This sounds silly, but I definitely just blogged the other night about how chocolate milk is my “feel good medicine” and it always makes my day better!
Maria@La_Piattini says
I vote yes for the book club! Plus, The Kite Runner is an amazing book- very intense with a lot of twists.
Sasha says
This the first time I have ever left a comment on anyone’s blog. I love reading your blog and smile every time you post pics of Sadie! The Kite Runner is such a great read. It covers some pretty serious subjects but is written so well. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Jordan says
just an fyi — i was recently telling my mom how much i loved vitafusion calcium gummies and how sometimes i eat them like candy and she told me that too much calcium CAN be bad for you! apparently she knew someone in college who was bulimic and ate tums constantly because of the acid reflux and she ended up getting kidney stones from the excess calcium! not to scare you or anything, just wanted to let you know 😉
peanutbutterfingers says
yikes! it’s crazy b/c i think we always worry about getting ENOUGH calcium and never really think about the side effects of TOO much. thank you for this comment!
Jordan says
no problem! i was surprised to hear it too, especially since i definitely worry about getting enough calcium.
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
haha I looove vitamins on ice cream!
And I say yes to a book club! I’m about 2/3 of the way done with The Glass Castle!
Kate says
Yes! It might make me read something worthwhile! After pursuing a masters in English I’ve kinda jumped on the chick lit bandwagon and have had little motivation to get off 🙂
Tracy @ Tracy's Treats says
I think the idea of a book club is great! Since my close friends and I all live scattered throughout the country, we used to have one and would discuss our books via email. The Kite Runner is one of those books that tugs on your heartstrings and if you like it I’m sure you will also like A Thousand Splendid Suns. I also used to overdose on my vitamins – the gummy bear kind! I still think they are really tasty!
Lindsey @ Happy or Hungry says
HUGE yes to book club!!!
Ohh, the Kite Runner. That is such a good book, but made me cry so so hard, and many parts were difficult to read. But I loved it 🙂
Hillary says
Kite Runner is a fantastic book—I’m sure you’ll love it!
I’d totally be interested in a PBF book club. All the ones I’ve found in my area is made up of women MUCH older than me. This isn’t a huge deal, but I’d love to read and discuss a book with people my own age!
Anne @strawberryjampackedlife says
You haven’t read Kite Runner? I read it once when it first came out, and then a second time when the movie came out. It’s an amazing story. Sad, but beautiful.
Julie @ Sugarfoot Eats says
PBF Book Club? Heck yeah!!!!!!!!!

I drove through Ocala today on my way to visit my parents (I’m at FSU in Tallahassee going through Nurse Practitioner school) and thought about you.

Muna says

I enjoyed Kite Runner a lot, it’s such a great book!
Stephanie @ A Hungry Bookworm says
I have been asking the same question about the lack of whipped cream at fro yo shops! That is the only topping I can’t live without, I can eat whipped cream by itself.
Katie says
A book club would be fun!
I read ‘The Kite Runner’ several years ago. Its a very sad but good story. You should follow it with the authors second book ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’, I own both!
Sandy says
The Kite Runner is one of my most favorite books! You will fly through it. It’s one of those books you can’t put down. Another book by the same author, A Thousand Splendid Suns, is also very very good. Good choice! Can’t wait to read what you think of it!
Erin at theswankysouthernyankee says
The yogurt spot in Texas always has cans of whipped cream (vitamins) !!! I always need vitamins!!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Woah. your fro-yo bowl sounds amazing! I need to try some of those flavours 🙂
Lisa @ Sunny Seed Stories says
No whipped cream?! What a tragedy!! My fro yo bowls are always filled to the brim with that stuff. I’m jealous of your carrot cake flavor, though. I’ve never seen it before!
Emily says
I love the book club idea!
ashley says
Yeah, you can get kidney stones from too much calcium. It is possible to get too much of a good thing. I’m always really careful about vitamin consumption. Probably because when I was a kid my mom relentlessly repeated that you should only take ONE flintstone vitamin a day and NO more! otherwise I would have eaten them like candy.
peanutbutterfingers says
true story: when i was little, i apparently climbed up onto the counter and ate half a jar of flinstone’s gummies. thankfully my mom is a nurse and knew ti give me a medicine to induce vomiting. she then told me it was all the vitamins that made me throw up, not the medicine so i wouldn’t do it again!
gabriella @ embracement says
Definitely YAY to the book club. I have been reading like its my job all summer long, I think I’m up to 25 books (and libraries are the best thing ever for this reason) but I know Im gonna fall off the wagon once school and internships begin…would love a book club!
Marcy says
I’m one of those older ladies (almost 50) that doesn’t want to discuss books with a bunch of old ladies!! HAHA I’m totally IN for the book club with you youngsters!! 8)

You are going to LOVE the kite runner – it’s so riveting! The movie is good too, but not as good as the book (naturally)
elizabeth says
yes, yes, yes! i’ve been lacking so much in the reading department this summer and a PBF book club would totally keep me accountable and give me some good book ideas! yay all the way 😉
Jenn from Much to My Delight says
I hit the thrift stores for super cheap books. Just picked up four today, and they usually have a pretty great selection. Check and see if your new town has a Goodwill to save some moolah till you can get a library card:)
