Today Ryan had plans to golf with some coworkers after work.
So what did I do to entertain myself since I have no friends in Ocala yet and didn’t feel like bumming around in the hotel room?
Well, first I ate dinner at the hotel buffet. Kind of. I picked at the dinner before throwing in the towel and making myself a peanut butter and jelly bagelwich back in the room. And then the fun began!
I took my boo-tay to Barnes & Nobel to pick out a new book! (I finished The Glass Castle yesterday. Review to come!)
I selected this book based on your recommendations and reviews I read. Hopefully it’s a winner.
Two things before we move on to my next solo activity of the night:
- I need an Ocala address so I can get a library card. I’ve spent $45 on books since we’ve been here! $15 a book x 3 adds up!
- Would you guys have any interest in a PBF book club? I could pick a book (using your recommendations) and announce it on the blog. Then, a month or so later, I would review it and ask questions that we could all discuss in the comments section of the post? Yay? Nay?
Moving right along to my next activity…
I took myself on a fro yo date!
Mochi was crowded, but not unbearable this evening, so I waited patiently and got myself a cup of chocolate, cake batter and carrot cake frozen yogurt, topped with Heath bar and Butterfinger bits, Oreos and Cap’n Crunch cereal.
Someone please tell me why so many fro yo places don’t have whipped cream as a topping option? Why? I just don’t understand.
Random fun fact: My dad calls whipped cream out of the can “vitamins.” Whenever we have ice cream sundaes at home he always asks us if we’d like them topped with some “vitamins.”
Speaking of vitamins, I am seriously addicted to Adora chocolate calcium disks. Yesterday I ate eight over the course of the day. Eight. That can’t be good.
Off to look up the dangers of consuming too much calcium…
A. says
There is research being done now which suggests that excessive calcium can cause heart attacks. Easy on the adora disks!

Shayla @ The Good Life says
Even though you were alone I love nights like that by myself – especially when it involves fro yo 😉
Colleen says
Julie-
I love your blog!! I also have spent way too much time at Borders (it’s going out of business so I wanted to help it out…or that’s what I’m telling myself) and I have a library card!! I would love love love a book club. Please and sign me up!
Alaina says
Book club sounds great!! I’ve been trying to read more. There’s nothing like curling up in bed at night with a good book.
Lindsay says
The book club is a fab idea! I am in one at work with all of the older women. We have read girl with the dragon tattoo and the help lately.
Amanda @Fashionably Plate says
I’m from Ocala and was just at Mochi yesterday! They do offer whipped cream, you just have to ask them for it 🙂
A book club sounds great!
peanutbutterfingers says
really!?!?! do they keep it behind the counter or something?
peanutbutterfingers says
and do you currently live in ocala? can we be friends? 🙂
Amanda @Fashionably Plate says
Yep, they keep it hidden behind the counter! I also heard that they keep cheesecake bites back there too!
I currently live just outside of Ocala. I just graduated college and am just job searching until grad school next year. I had forgotten how boring it can be here, so yes we can be friends 🙂
Rachelle says
I buy all my books from Amazon. Barnes and Nobles is wayyy to expensive.
Heather says
Haha I am TEMPTED to eat ten Adora a day but 1)they are too expensive and 2) the website says limit them to no more than three a day!! I’m sure one day of eating that many won’t harm you but I’d buy a Hershey bar the next time! It’s actually less calories than ten Adoras!! 😉
Also can I participate in the book club as just a reader? I don’t have a blog. I love the idea though!!
peanutbutterfingers says
oh yeah, definitely!! no need to have a blog to participate!
kirstin says
i love the idea of a book club!
Lauren says
I was going to go on a fro-yo date by myself today but i spent an hour in a grocery store by accident. I shouldnt be allowed to grocery shop. Haha.
I’m eexxxxtrrremely slow at reading but I think a PBF book club sounds like a pretty good idea 🙂
Jessica G says
great idea for a book club.
you should get your books from amazon (once you get an address). so much cheaper than a bookstore!
Mindy says
LOVE the book club idea!
Alex says
Yes to the book club!
Side note – I just made your chocolate covered strawberry smoothie and it’s literally the best smoothie of my life – so so delicious! The xanthan gum is an incredible addition to smoothies too, great tip 🙂
Alexa says
YES to the book club! I belonged to one this past spring that was a total bust and tried to join another but it’s not very motivating.
Side note – I highly suggest reading the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. I’m halfway through the second and it’s amazing!
caroline says
i’d love to be part of the book club, great idea! keep us posted!!
Kristin says
MUST.READ.A.THOUSAND.SPLENDID.SUNS. best book ever and I want to name my first daughter Laila after one of the main characters.
Christina says
The Kite Runner is incredible! I immediately read his second novel after reading that – A Thousand Splendid Suns, which focuses on two girls instead of two guys. So good!
Michelle @ Crazy*Running*Legs says
I’ve tried the whole “book club” on my blog and it’s kinda difficult. I had a lot of people that said “YAY lets do this” and then just a handful respond. I am supposed to pick a book for August and I haven’t yet.
That said, I LOVED Kite Runner (break out the tissues, seriously) my friends and I discussed it at a real life book club. His other book A Thousand Splendid Suns is also amazing (again — more tissues).
Lauren says
buy your books on amazon! super cheap 🙂
Anne says
Yay for bookclubs, especially when Kite Runner is the book! P.S. Perhaps a Kindle would be a good investment? Books are much cheaper, they are downloaded to your Kindle in 10 seconds, and it’s super light!
chelsea says
You have such great book recommendations and books I’ve already heard from others are amazing! I’d go for a book club 🙂
The above comment is suggesting a kindle and I COMPLETLY agree! I have a 3G and anytime I want a book I can just find it wherever I’m at and download it right there with no hassle. Plus it’s so fun to read outside and it LOOKS like a real book! It’s way worth the price and books are typically only $10/each. I don’t blame you for hitting up the local library though. I used to do that as well prior to getting the kindle as a gift.
Sarah says
Check your local library some have e books you can’t rent out online for your kindle.
Sarah says
Can rent out. Sorry for the typo
Megan says
Whoa, get ready KITE RUNNER is amazing. But you will cry.
Like little girl in love with Justin Bieber cry. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTCm8tdHkfI
Seriously, when I finished that book I had the exhausted cry of a child. But I couldn’t recommend it enough. Enjoy.
Sarah says
have you ever tried half.com for books? .75 cents for a book plus the two dollars for shipping is still better than retail of at least $15. Just a thought. Would love a book club though!
Bethany @ More Fruit Please says
That’s funny about your dad calling whipped cream “vitamins”. My dad used to call chocolate ice “medicine”. It must be awesome being a dad and getting to make up stuff like that!
Ciera @ Rose & Thistle says
The book club sounds awesome, as is the Kite Runner. One of the best books I’ve ever read, enjoy!
Erica @ suBOURBON Tales says
I’d love a PBF Book Club!! I’m assuming most of your readers are already under the age of 80, so it’ll be better than all the other book clubs I’ve looked into.
I think it’d be cool if we mixed it up a bit too. One month read “modern” (something written recently) literature, then maybe a (good, not boring!) classic, then a light, fun chick-lit book. Just an idea!
This will make me feel way more intellectual than just watching Bachelor Pad!
peanutbutterfingers says
hahahha ain’t so shame in watching the bachelor pad. 🙂 i feel ya!
Khushboo says
Kite Runner is an excellent pick, loved reading although super sad!
Christina says
I loved the Kite Runner and like some others have said, read A Thousand Splendid Suns next! Everyone said it was better than Kite Runner, which I couldn’t believe because I loved the book, but it really is!
Also, my dad calls ice cream mashed potatoes!
Lindsay says
I love reading and this summer alone I have read 45 books. After buying so many books, my parents got me a Kindle for my birthday. Now, I can load books on my kindle and I can also share books with friends through amazon, I think you might want to consider getting a kindle as you will be able to share books with others! 😀
Joe @ The Frolicking Fells says
The Kite Runner is an amazing, powerful book…however, don’t get your hopes up for the movie, because the movie pales in comparison to the book. It was VERY disappointing!
Jessie says
yes book club! i’m beginning graduate school soon and will think i have no time to read “fun” books, but if i have something to be accountable to then maybe i can force myself to read what i want (and relax a little!)
Jessica Corbin says
Oh yes!! I want to go by The Help soon! Have you ever read Beth Harbison’s books? I have all 4 and completely addicting! I would love a book club, just wish more of us could interact with you and such…I would love it though, I love to read and can do it on the mornings and during weekends, oh and for sure make time in the evenings!!
Sophie says
Ooh I love the book club idea!
I still haven’t read The Help and this could be the ideal motivation :-). The Kite Runner is a brilliant book although quite difficult emotionally. Read A Thousand Splendid Suns next! It’s possibly even better in my opinion. It’s one of the books that made me cry the most!
Liz says
I’m a huge reader and would love a PBF book club! 🙂
Giulia says
Yay for the PBF book club! I love to read, but somehow i never have the time to actually choose what to read, this could be perfect for me!
I haven’t read The Kite Runner, but I read A Thousand Spendid Suns and absolutely loved it!
Lily says
Love the idea of a PBF book club! 😀
Dani @ Dani Delicatessen says
Ahhh I’ve had the Kite Runner in my closet for so long now, I definitely need to get on that….and as for Calcium your body can only absorb 500mg at a time so you should be somewhat safe ; )
Diana Amy says
Haha they really need to stop making those calcium supplements taste so much like candy!!
Would I be interested in a PBF book club…is this some sort of trick question?!?! DUH! 😉
Kelley says
I would love a book club 🙂
Amanda @ Running On Waffles says
Kite Runner is SUUUUCH a good book!!!! I hope you enjoy it!!! There’s a second book by the same author that I’ve been meaning to read. And I think a book club would be an awesome idea!! Every time you review a book, I think to myself that I’ve been meaning to read that one, so this would definitely help me stay on top of my reading list!
Maura says
YAY to the PBF book club. Great idea!
Amanda says
I totally agree about the whipped cream at the fro yo place! I think I complain about it (to my fro yo companions, not the employees) every time I go there!
Gen says
That froyo looks delicious!!!!!!!! Can’t wait till we finally have a shop here!
Lindsay says
I think you’ll love The Kite Runner, though at times it’s a painful book to get through. My mom, sister, and I all read it.
I’d love a PBF book club!
Jennifer - Somewhere In Between says
I love the idea of a book club! My friends & I recently started one this summer and it has been great, and a blog book club sounds fantastic! If you’re not already on there, you should join Goodreads for great reviews, book ideas, and a book swap (that way you are saving all that $ you are spending unt you get a library card!).
Brittany says
I absolutely love my Kindle and love that it saves me on buying $15 books. Granted they still tend to be between $7-$10 but that’s a pretty decent discount still!
Book club would be awesome. I am always trying to make people read the books I read so we can “discuss”. My boyfriend still refuses to pick up the Hunger Games even though I know he wants to because he’s stubborn.
Oh, and funny story, my local froyo place was robbed last week by an 18 year old with a machine gun around noon. Stupid kid didn’t realize that they didn’t have a safe–its a froyo place, seriously? and that when they opened was not the best time to go if you really wanted the day’s profit. He got away with a measly $300 and got arrested shortly after. Ha!
Merri says
An enthusiastic YES from me on the book club front!!! I was just thinking of joining one here, but I would much prefer the PBfingers book club to any old shabby NYC book club!!! xoxoxoxoxo
Tara @ Chip Chip Hooray says
To echo the 30 million people above me…yes!! A PBF book club would be so fun! I love excuses to discuss books at any time (English major forever and always? Yup), and taking it into the blogosphere would be even more fun. 🙂
Katherine says
I would love to do a book club!!! I have been wanting to join one for ever now, but non of my friends are interested haha!
