I allowed myself to sleep in this morning and catch up on some much-needed rest after my trip to New York City. Iām hoping to sneak in a lunchtime workout after I drive back to Ocala, but even though I skipped my morning workout, I made sure to return to my healthy habits when it came to selecting breakfast.
Last night I prepared a batch of blueberry overnight oats and baked some of my favorite homemade almond butter granola.
Sometimes a little forethought makes breakfast a breeze!
I am also nearly three quarters of the way through a pint of fresh blueberries that I started snacking on as I sat down at my computer. Apparently today is blueberry breakfast day!
Run-In with The Bachelorās Emily
Those of you who follow me on Twitter and Facebook know about something a little crazy that happened to me yesterday.
This Bachelor-lovinā girl just happened to be seated directly in front of Emily from this seasonās Bachelor on my first flight from New York City to Charlotte, North Carolina where I had a layover!
I was reading my new book and just happened to glance up as she was walking by and recognized her, but couldnāt place where I knew her from until after a minute or two when it hit me!
I turned around and said, āExcuse me, do you happen to be on The Bachelor this season?ā
She smiled and laughed, saying that she was Emily.
Emily was extremely friendly, especially after I told her that I totally agreed with her about her feelings toward nut-job Courtney. She said that it was painful to watch last weekās episode when all the Courtney drama went down and I felt for her, especially since she was so laid back, smiley and normal in person.
Then the flight attendants went through their whole safety spiel and I didnāt bother her for the entire flightā¦ but I couldnāt let my fellow Bachelor fans down and not talk to her a bit more after we landed. Puh-lease.
We actually ended up talking about her future plans (she isnāt after Hollywood fame and hopes to work in her field after she graduates with her PhD in epidemiology in April) and other random non-Bachelor related things and I left the plane telling her āgood luckā with The Bachelor, if she really wants it since Ben is losing his luster for me this season.
Kind of crazy, huh?
My random run-in with Emily made it even more fun to watch last nightās episode, though I was so sad to see who went home. (I wonāt write her name out here just in case any of you DVRed it and are waiting to watch.)
Time to hit the road. I canāt wait to be reunited with Ryan and Sadie!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
She sounds so nice and normal-hah š What a crazy fun run-in!
Have a great day with your mom!
Hannah says
I live in Charlotte! so cool…
Faith @ For the Health of It says
It’s gotta be so awkward to be on a show but not able to talk about it too much while it airs. I feel like I’d be tempted to spill the beans!
Hope says
That is so cool! When I saw Emily, I thought it was Emily from Brad’s season at first. I haven’t been watching this season. I couldn’t even make it through the first episode.
Meg says
Dude! That’s awesome that she was so friendly and open about everything, too. I wish I could keep up with the Bachelor, dang work! I miss it!
HRCK the Herald says
I really like Emily! She lives in my hometown so I’m partial because of that, I think š But I was glad that she put the smack-down on Courtney a bit too, and I’m so glad that you got up the guts to talk to her!!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
What a funny coincidence! In terms of timing, is it still being filmed? I was under the impression that it took place a few months ago.
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
I just watched the second half of the episode now. I know how much you enjoy the Bachelor.. must have been an awesome run in for you!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Hehe I saw your tweet about seeing Emily and was so excited for you! I don’t watch the Bachelor so I wouldn’t have had a clue, but it still would have been fun to meet her!
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers says
I guess it’s kind of odd yet cool when the stranger on the airplane doesn’t feel so much like a stranger. š
Sana says
Hahah, I feel like I would totally miss her on a plane, I thought you tweeted about the other Emily!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
How crazy is that?! So funny that happened to you considering your obsession (I say that in a good way ;)) with The Bachelor!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
How cool! Haha š
Jana @ Newly Wife Healthy Life says
Ahh! So fun! I really like Emily from the show, she seems so kind and smart. She’s definitely one of my top favorites! Last night’s show made me like her even more, like Ben a little less, and it confirmed my feeling about Courtbey: she needs to go!
Sarah says
Agree! And, Emily was the only one that could translate the Spanish!
Staci says
Is it just me, or does Courtney seem to have the characteristics of a pyscho serial killer…if you notice she always looks to Ben to key in on his emotions before she shows any emotion herself….it’s quite creepy. Extremely manipulative….
Mallory @ Have your cake says
i def thought you meant the other emily! but this is cool, i like this emily…sounds smart and ambitious, and probably too cute for ben anyway.
Lindsey says
I really like Emily too (I’m also sad about who went home). Courtney is in it to win and that annoys me to no end! But, I agree that Ben is losing his luster at this point.
Laurie says
How cool is that!!! I started watching The Bachelor, but I’m just not feeling Ben, so I didn’t watch it last night. But I do remember Courtney being a nut job!! I read somewhere that is who Ben picks!!! ugh!! (just a rumor, I’m sure š )
Joelle (on a pink typewriter) says
That’s so funny! I love when people from TV are nice in person – you never know!
That granola looks delish!
Sara Salinas says
That’s so crazy! Did you tell her about your blog?! She could become a follower and give us the inside scoop!
peanutbutterfingers says
she just commented! i’m kind of pumped. š
Holly says
I am eating your granola as I type this! I made a batch of the PB granola- subbed in almond extract for the vanilla & added in chia seeds & flax seeds- SO good! I love how easy it was to make. Can’t wait to ‘borrow’ some of your other granola recipes š
That is so awesome about Emily- she is my favorite on the season so far. I loved her outing with Ben- I give her props I could NEVER walk on that bridge that high up- I would probably pass out..and then they would have to send me off to the hospital- haha!
Welcome back to FL- so glad you had a great time in NYC! I’m going up there in May & I can’t wait!! š
Khushboo says
Even on holiday I try to eat a healthy brekkie- if all other meals go to pot, at least I have breakfast under my belt!
Emily says
Question about making granola:
Does it matter what type of oats I use? I have quick oats at home, and I want to make peanut buttter granola š
peanutbutterfingers says
i would probably stick to old fashioned, but i think instant would work in a pinch!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I’m waiting to watch it on Hulu after class today! That’s so cool that you talked to her and she was so nice! I wonder what that’s like to be recognized in random public places!?
Catherine says
Oh my goodness, I am watching this episode right now! I can’t believe who got sent home… I liked her so much! I thought Emily was definitely gone after this episode, even though she’s been a favorite of mine since the beginning. The Bachelor is so ridiculous, but I love talking about it haha
Danielle says
Emily is my favorite! The last few weeks I’ve been saying that she’s someone who I’d want to be friends with… she just seems so normal & awesome š
Jodi @ Southern Flavored Life says
It seems like you are always talking to famous/semi-famous people!
Michelle says
I don’t watch the show – but I love that you had the balls to just ask if she was from the show! I would have sat there there whole time freaking out in my head — too shy to say anything š
Awesome that she’s normal and apparently smart!
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
I love your blog, but do you ever feel like “The Bachelor” is really degrading to women? I mean it’s however many women fighting on national television, in the most horrible light, competing for one man’s affection of which they will probably not get, and even if they do, the show has proven to be just a conduit for exposure (mostly unflattering) and not a way to lasting love. I really don’t want my daughter to ever want to aspire to that.
Again, I love your blog- a lot. I just don’t love the bachelor or shows similar (real housewives of any city, bad girls club, etc.) Especially when it’s a male driven show, men fighting one another is viewed as “boys being boys” and when we fight, not only does it set us back so far from where we’ve come, caving to stereotypes that women can’t be friends-but we are viewed as “nuts” or “bitches”.
That’s a big reason why I love our healthy living blog community-so many women lifting each other up!
*Andrea* says
i agree…the show is reinforcing culture’s gender stereotypes and overall cultural expectations of women. i HIGHLY recommend the book “Body Shots” – which encourages us all to watch the media and tv/movies with a more critical eye š
Maura @ Running to Saks says
Wow! If there was anyone to run into before last night’s episode, she’d be it. I’m so glad she was so friendly and normal. She seems like a genuine person on the show. Ben is definitely a bozo if he falls for Courtney’s tricks. She’s so manipulative…”I bet he’d love to go skinny dipping with a model…” gag.
Carolyn says
That “skinny dipping model” quote made me laugh. REALLY? No respectable model would ever say that.
And this is only the second episode I’ve watched all year. But I think Emily is definitely gorgeous! Especially since Courtney only looks uglier and uglier every episode.
Well, off to make some of that delicious granola! Yummy!
Kimberly says
Thanks for not spoiling it! I am waiting until after work to watch it!
I love “celeb” sightings! I sat down next to Micheal Simon from the Food Network and The Chew on Saturday night at a coffee shop in Brooklyn, I didnt have the nerve to say anything but I was geeking out a bit!
Gina @ Will Run For Cupcakes says
Last nights episode made smoke come out of my ears.
I’m team Kaci B. !!!! (Sorry Emily) I was also really surprised about who he sent home. Didn’t see that coming AT ALL!!!!
P.S. I continue to have run ins with Erica from Jason’s season. She lives right near me and we frequent the same places. I didn’t say anything for a while, but one night I had one too many and opened a can of worms. Needless to say, she’s engaged with a rock like no other…
…guess she (Jason) made the right choice!
Happy Tuesday!
StoriesAndSweetPotatoes says
That’s so awesome! Last night’s episode was crazy. I’m assuming that Ben was pretty drunk and that’s why he agreed to strip on national TV.
peanutbutterfingers says
i sure hope so! not the classiest move…
Mollie says
Wow! how crazy you got to talk to her!! I really like her in this season.
Julie says
That’s so crazy! She seemed like such a sweet girl on the show, and you’re right, not feeling Ben here either. But in other Bachelor run in news, about 2 months ago i was at a bar in Milwaukee (where I go to college) and ran into Kirk from Ali’s season and from the Bachelor pad!!! My friends and I paled around with him and his friends for awhile and he seemed like such a nice guy. We are both from the MidWest so we had a lot in common and our high schools are really close! Even though he’s a lot older than me, I was star-struck, but knew nothing would happen between us hahahaha. It was so fun to see someone from the show out in the “real world” just living their life…although, I pride myself on being the first person there to know it was him, but once other girls caught on it got crazy! I’m glad you got to meet someone from the show too. š
peanutbutterfingers says
aw, i loved him!!! he was such a nice guy on the show!
Heather says
ah that is so cool! I would have been the obnoxious freaking out girl to meet someone from tv. HA!
Amy says
thats so funny! i feel like im so oblivious to people id walk right by most famous peolple. thats awesome though!
Heather H. @ Run Eat Play says
That’s so cool! It’s funny that you always talk about the Bachelor and then you meet Emily. Maybe should start talking about Brad Pitt or Channing Tatum…
peanutbutterfingers says
ha! for real!
SweatyGirl says
Courtney freaks me the eff out.
Imagine if it were HER you ran into? *shudder*
peanutbutterfingers says
i thought about that! not sure what i would say to that one…
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
That’s so awesome that you met her!!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
that is so neat that you met her and got to chat with her a bit! i plan to watch last night’s episode today… š
SkinnyRunner says
oh you know i love some celebrity sitings! that is sweet. i would have sat in her seat with her.
peanutbutterfingers says
i wanted to. believe me. the kid next to her didn’t even know what kind of an opportunity they were missing.
Brooke says
LOL!!!!!!! š
Ellie@Fit for the Soul says
how cool is that?! You ran into one of the protagonists of your fave show š Man, watching episodes about yourself would be awkward and painful! (by yourself I mean “ourselves”)
Lindsay says
That’s so cool!!! I love that you ran into her, she seems so nice on the show – her, Lindzi and Kacie B are my favorites. I agree that Ben is losing a lot of his appeal – especially after last night’s episode. If I was one of the girls on the show, I don’t even know if I would accept a rose at this point! One of my friends met Jake at the airport – she said she kept staring at him and finally said “Are you Jake, the bachelor?”
peanutbutterfingers says
jake the snake!! š
Denise says
Loved Emily!!! Courtney not so much.
alex says
she seems so nice though didn’t seem to learn from her previous mistakes. ben is the worsssttt and a hypocrite. i am PISSED about who left last night (she should be the next bachelorette!!). it’s obvious he is only into dramatic girls who would keep him relevant after the show. UGH
natalie @ southern fit foodie says
Sweet! Isn’t it awesome when “celebrities” are so normal and nice?!
Kim says
Ah cool!!! She seems nice! I like when they go back to their normal lives after and aren’t all about the fame. I’m so glad she is saying something about Courtney – that girl is NUTS!!
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs says
Travelling is always fun, but there’s no place like home!
And it’s pretty cool that you had a Bachelor contestant run-in!
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
I love this story!!! Thank you so much for sharing! I really liked her from the beginning- I was totally pulling for her on the first episode, but last night especially she kind of shot herself in the foot. I really thought she was going home. I’m glad that she was so nice- that makes me like her more. And I can not stand Courtney (can anyone?) but also- I was a much bigger fan of Ben when he was on the Bachelor. I think he is SO BORING this season.
