On Saturday, Ryan and my dad went spear fishing. It was Ryan’s first time trying the sport and he successfully nabbed a hogfish!
Check out the teeth on this bad boy!
Ryan said he had to shoot it in self defense. 😉
When they returned from their big adventure, my dad showed Ryan how to filet a fish, and we were left with two filets to enjoy for dinner tonight.
I was left with the task of making the fish taste good and wanted to be sure to highlight the flavors of Ryan’s big catch with some yummy seasonings.
Since I love Old Bay on basically any seafood, I figured using that seasoning was a good way to go.
After sprinkling the hogfish with Old Bay, I broiled it for about eight minutes, until the fish flaked with a fork.
On the side we enjoyed roasted broccoli and fresh blueberries.
That is so cool! My dad and brothers have always fished and it’s really fun to eat it afterwards. 🙂
I agree on watermelon, but have to go with any kind of seafood!
Wow, that’s what ya call FRESH fish!
When peaches are juicy ‘n’ sweet, then it’s summer… and cherries too : )
Haha, I’m a wuss when it comes to fishing! I don’t know if I have the guts to clean and cook something that I caught myself! Rainier cherries are my absolute favorite summer staple!
So cool! Congrats to Ryan. I love the teeth- yikes- but it sure looks like it tastes amazing
I love that he caught that spearfishing…it’s such a funny looking fish!! Lobster and berries are my favorite summery foods. And Natty Light always reminds me of the summer I graduated from high school!
Mmm watermelon is one of my favorite summer foods!
fresh strawberry pie from this restaurant: anna millers screams summer to me 🙂
Definitely peaches! Especially in cobbler form 🙂
I would have to agree, watermelon totally screams summer. But also corn on the cob!
Aww, that’s so exciting for him! 🙂
Summer foods – ahhh, watermelon is definitely one. Nectarines, potato salad, and corn on the cob all make me think of summer. Bud light lime is also a summer favorite – nice and refreshing on a hot summer day!
Oh – and ice cream also screams out to me in any food category, so yeah, that too. 😀
Hubba Hubba! The fish of course, not Ryan! 😉 LoL, no Just kidding, you’ve got yourself quite the catch. A real man can catch is food and cook it too! 🙂
i wish i liked watermelon more! i’m going to say a grilled burger and tons of grilled veggies are summer-y to me 🙂 wash it all down with a big glass of lemonade 🙂
Cherries! I make a killer cherry pie!!!
Pineapple and salads…. love them both in the summer!
Corn on the cob!!! 🙂
That fish looks so tasty!
Guacamole and a lime flavored beer. I have both year-round, but they taste best in the summer!
That picture up close of the fish will haunt my dreams for the rest of my life … Mehehahe
That is a SCARY looking fish! To me, watermelon and corn = summer!
Awww…poor fish!
Watermelon definitely equals summer to me. It isn’t summer without the melon!
It’s so crazy for me to think of people fishing and they eating what they caught! We dont’ have that type of stuff in AZ. Watermelon and strawberries equal summertime to me. 🙂
Those teeth are scary! 😮
Ice cream screams summer!
Jenn
Watermelon definitely screams summer for me!
And tomatoes, I don’t know why, but the combo of tomatoes + sandwiches, or tomato+baked fish always reminds me of summer dinners.
I bet the fish tasted that much better, having just been caught that weekend by your fella. 😀
I think watermelon and ice cream scream summer to me. Yum.
Definately watermelon! Fresh Strawberries scream summer to me too 🙂
Fresh ripe mangoes plucked straight from the tree 😀
Definitelyyyy watermelon! And cantaloupe, peaches, and plums! Any kind of fruit really 🙂
I’ve never heard of hogfish. Does it taste similar to haddock?
Great job Ryan!
it actually reminds me a bit of a less-flavorful grouper.
How cool! I’ve never eaten fish THAT fresh! For me, watermelon screams summer. Oh and strawberries that are sweeter than the year-round grocery kind.
my BFs dad has a deep sea fishing boat and LIVES on it! (not literally) but he goes every weekend and loves it, as does Jason! its so fun to eat fresh caught fish!! I think that right there screams summer to me!
I am way better off just seeing the fish on my plate, ick. But yeaaa fishing:) “great catch” – talking about the fish, ha.
BBQ for some reason screams summer, and of course watermelon.
Man, those teeth are crazy!
Watermelon screams summer, and peaches and corn on the cob!
Food always tastes better when you catch it, pick it, cook it yourself… don’t you think?
PS- that fish sure has scary teeth though 😉
The fish looks great, I’ve never tasted that kind.
To me, summer foods are salad and berries, bbq’d meat. Anything that can be cooked outdoors.
I wish I wasn’t allergic to watermelon!! My dad and brother go out on the lake and occasionally bring home a mess of fish. Sometimes they taste good, sometimes they taste nasty! And they’re so tiny you have to eat like 4 of them, heh.
