I don’t know about you guys, but I just wasn’t feelin’ the whole work thang today. I went, I worked and I left, but I felt like I was watching the clock the entire afternoon.
When it was finally quittin’ time, and I hopped in my car and sped home, anxious to see my overly energetic dog!
Sadie greeted me with one of my socks in her mouth, wiggling all over the place to express her enthusiasm.
With that kind of a greeting, Ryan and I knew we had to do something fun with her, so we leashed her up for a walk in the late afternoon sun.
Can you see Sadie is slowing getting a white muzzle? I’m in denial about any signs of aging in our little girl and call her white hairs her “highlights.” They came just in time for summer!
Dinner
Once we arrived home from our 30-minute walk, dinner was ready!
Before we walked, I sliced up four Aidells Cajun Style Andouille pork sausages and a large onion and put them in a casserole dish lined with olive oil. I then placed the dish in a 350-degree oven for about 35 minutes. until the onions were tender and the pork sausage was thoroughly cooked.
The pork had a little bit of a kick to it due to the Creole spices, but wasn’t too spicy for a spice-wimp like me.
We enjoyed our sausage and onions with garlic toast that I made by smearing butter on a toasted whole wheat sandwich thin before sprinkling it with garlic salt.
As I was just getting ready to type up a description about how tasty my super-simple version of garlic toast was, a commercial for Pepperidge Farm’s Texas Toast came on television during a break from House Hunters and put my garlic toast to shame. I thought my toast was tasty until I saw their thick doughy bread topped with cheese, loads of butter and garlic. I feel shamed.
Are any of you guys out there fans of House Hunters? Ryan and I discovered it about a month ago and love it! I bet we’d enjoy it 5,000 times more if we were actually in the market to buy a house. All in good time.
Question of the Evening
- What is your ideal house? Beach house? Cabin in the woods? Luxurious townhouse in the city? Tent? Igloo?
After currently living in an apartment with the world’s ugliest cabinets, all I want in a future home is a beautiful kitchen.
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
ohh the highlights make Sadie look distinguished 🙂
I love househunters I miss it soo since we gave up cable! I can’t wait till we cant get a house of our own also and do all sorts of projects
Have a great night! 🙂
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Ahh.. highlights. Honestly.. it really isn’t a sign of aging if you ask me. My parents have a German Shepard.. who started graying around his mouth when he was like 2 years old.. no joke!
Allison @ Happy Tales says
I completely agree with you! I’m not sure about vislas… but my dog Happy (who is just now 10 months) has had her coat change quite a bit since we got her at 3 months. She has the coloring of a border collie.. and when we first got her she was predominantly black with spurts of white on her legs/face/tail… now she has more white areas behind her ears, on her butt, and on her shoulders. It definitely looks like she’s “graying”…but I think it’s just how she is!
julie @ peanut butter fingers says
I love you guys! This makes me feel so much better!
Lindsay says
I love sausages like that. They are so easy especially since they are already fully cooked.. all you have to do is heat and eat! Yummy!!!
Brittany (healthy slice) says
I love simple garlic toast!
Before we bought our house I was I Seward with house hunters, but now it only peaks my interest if it’s in a cook location or they have an extremely high budget. I loved today’s Hawaii episode!
Tessa @ Amazing Asset says
Aww Sadie has a bit more pazazz now!
When I am home from school I live with my mom right near the beach. I love the location and couldn’t imagine it any other way 🙂
Courtney @ The Granola Chronicles says
I love House Hunters – actually I love all home shows! My husband and I really like bungalow-style houses…they definitely fit our personality. Enjoy your night! 🙂
julie @ peanut butter fingers says
I like bungalows too!
Emily says
Not that I was home with nothing to do, but rumor has it there was a House Hunters marathon on alllllll of New Years Eve…..
julie @ peanut butter fingers says
This made me laugh out loud. Love it!
Alyssa says
My rowhome was on House Hunters! it wasnt picked though 🙁 love that show!!
Lauren says
hahaha wow we have the same cabinets! I’m getting married this summer and currently moving into the boy’s house…and wouldn’t you know he has the same weird beige/wood cabinets! We’re not in the market for a full kitchen renovation right now…but you can bet its at the top of my list!
julie @ peanut butter fingers says
Aren’t they awful? At least we are in the same boat!
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
I’ve been watching House hungers for years – I love it!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I like her highlights!!
I want a nice home near a city but not in a city. And if life allows it, a nice cabin on a lake 🙂 All in good time!!
p.s. garlic toast is like my husband’s FAV!!
Parita @ myinnershakti says
I am obessed with HGTV! I love House Hunters! Every time I watch that show, I end up daydreaming about my perfect home. My vision isn’t quite complete yet, but the kitchen will be huge with really nice appliances. 🙂
Shanna, like Banana says
Well an igloo *does* rate high, but I’d say a sprawling open style house right on the edges of a bustling city so I could come and go.
Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun says
Our fugly kitchen tile beats your cabinets any day! :p
The Red Velvet Wife says
House Hunters International is our fave. 🙂
As for my perfect home…hard to say. I can’t choose just one, so how ’bout a luxurious townhouse in the city AND a ranch with lots of land. Oh, and why not throw in a beach house in Maui, too. I like this game. 😉
julie @ peanut butter fingers says
I’m there!
gabriella @ embracement says
My Ryan and I watch House Hunters ALL the time. We’ve both dreamed up our perfect house this way: gorgeous kitchen, cherry cabinets, top of the line appliances, heated bathroom floors, wood throughout, huge finished bedroom, double vanities in the bathroom…HGTV in general just has me reaching completely out of any realistic price range
janey says
My MIL has the Worst. Kitchen. Cabinets. Ever.
Fake dark oak stain.
Green glass inserts that are curvy and baroque.
Glass lined with black velvet wallpaper that looks like it came from a whorehouse…
it shows through the glass.
Tacky. Disgusting.
Annie says
OMG i totally made garlic toast JUST LIKE THAT tonight for dinner! Except we had ravioli and broccoli with it… crazy! And i commented that it tasted just like texas toast when I tok that first bite 🙂
Lauren says
Your dog is so beautiful! And her highlights are very stylish. I LOVE House Hunters, and House Hunters International! I live vicariously through each and every family, because it will be a while until I’m house hunting for myself!
Abby says
Your garlic toast is probably much yummier! Not as many funky ingredients! lol 😉
My dream house needs to have a gorgeous kitchen and big windows! I would really like it to be brick also!
fittingbackin says
That sausage looks wonderful! Awww Love baby girl’s highlights – so sweet. 🙂
I want a huge, colorful yard with lots of privacy, a home with tons of windows, natural lighting and an open floor plan!
Audrey says
Haha, I just finished watching three episodes of House Hounters (I’m now into My First Place). Normally, that would be sad, but I am on vacation and am butt sore from all the walking we did today. 🙂
Stephanie @ LiveCookLove says
I LOVE house hunters!!! My boyfriend and I watch it all the time 🙂 I even pretended he was on “job hunters” and asked him which job he will choose. He got a good laugh.
P.S. Tomorrow morning I start my AM workout routine so I’m going to think of you and make myself get up at the butt crack of dawn. 😀
julie @ peanut butter fingers says
Woooo! Good luck!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I love House Hunters — and usually Jason and I agree on which house/apartment is best, so hopefully that means when we look for a new house we will be able to agree on what to buy!
My dream house — a big house in the suburbs near parks and close to shopping centers. But I also want a beach house somewhere. I just want to be near water!
Mel (Mmm Stories) says
I was not feeling work today either!
One day I would love a house that is modern meets cozy with modern appliances and a big background and pool! Even better if it could have “green” touches here and there. I’m the same though, give me a great kitchen — and some decent closet space – and I’m happy!
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
My husband and I are obsessed with House Hunters (and HGTV in general). It is such a fun show! I love being nosy and looking at the inside of people’s homes. My dream house would definitely be right on the beach.
Victoria (District Chocoholic) says
I don’t get cable, so I haven’t seen House Hunters, but y’all are super smart to wait until you are totally financially prepared to buy property. 20% down, an emergency fund with 3-18 months of living expenses, and comfortable cash flow is the word. Read up on Michelle Singletary from The Washington Post as you inch towards the market.
I totally love my 1 bedroom condo in the middle of Washington DC. Set back in Rock Creek Park. A few minutes to walk to everything, but complete silence and nothing but trees from my balcony. Win.
Lisa says
Glad to hear someone else is a House Hunters fan. That show is a favorite in my house. As for the cabinets I don’t think yours are as bad as my brothers (before he gutted the kitchen). Metal and teal….need I say more.
Lauren says
I’ve never seen House Hunters, but I’ve heard it’s awesome!
My favorite house is my family’s summer house on a lake in the country. It’s surrounded by dirt roads & trails perfect for running and right on the water.
Holley @ Smart Snacking says
I LOVE house hunters!! It is such a dangerous show for me to watch- i get sucked in and have to watch the whole thing. I won’t let myself start watching an episode unless I know I have enough time for it 🙂
Cori Higgins says
Seriously obsessed with House Hunters! I get mad when the people don’t pick the obvious best choice, hehe!
Brittany says
Absolutely OBSESSED with House Hunters! I just wanna buy a house soooo bad. (I’m 21 and a junior in college so I’ve got some time still) I also wanted to be an interior designer for a long time… Far cry from what i’m actually getting a degree in–Chemical Engineering.
You and Ryan would be awesome on House Hunters. That’s not the first time I’ve mentioned it, if you recall.
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
oOOoOo my ideal house is kind of cottagey I think! 😀
Rachel @ The Perseverance Diaries says
I always watch House Hunters with my mom. We always get so mad at the people when they choose the worst house (at least in our opinion) haha. We start talking to the T.V “omg why did they choose that one?!”
My dream house would be near the ocean or even just a bigger apartment in nyc would be great 🙂
Katie @ running4cupcakes says
Abby always meets me at the door with my socks. . . she also brings them to me on the couch when she wants attention or to play! Hy husband and I love House Hunters – so fun to see all the different options and prices out there! I especially like House Hunters International!
My dream home is one on a lake with huge windows!
Amanda says
Highlights– that’s a good way to look at it. My dog is going white around his mouth and it makes me sad to think of him growing older!!
Sammi says
I loved House Hunters until I read the truth behind it.. now it is just ruined for me 🙁 But I love “My First Place” and “Property Virgins.” If you love House Hunters, don’t look up how its filmed.. trust me!
Anna says
I’m OBSESSED with house hunters its my favoritest show ever! U should try Property Virgins too its awsome.
Clare @ Fitting It All In says
Watching House Hunters right now! I watch it almost every night while I’m blogging.
I think I’d love a southern style house with a big wrap around porch.
Vanessa @ Swift as Shadows says
Ideally, my husband and I would live in a little cottage tucked away in the woods (but close enough to civilization). A “gingerbread” type house with cobblestone and cute shingles. And a tower. There has to be a tower. =)
Jennifer (The Gourmetour) says
I’ve been watching HH for a long time now, but recently my best friend has been obsessed! I love all the HGTV shows!
I don’t have a “dream” house but I know I want something with a gorgeous kitchen and a large plot of land, more land than house probably. Although, I currently live in Chicago so my dream house right now is more like a town house here!
Angela @ pinchingandpacking says
I am watching House Hunters as I read this! The BF and I are a little obsessed. It is amazing how much people will pay for the tiniest condo in some places!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
I like living in a city, but I think a beach house is really what I need to ease the work stress! 🙂
Nicole says
I am obsessed with having a house on a lake with a big wrap-around porch (just like the one in the Notebook) *sigh
whitney says
Aww Sadie! This made me LOL cause my cat (who thinks she’s a dog…) carries our socks around in her mouth too and cries! What a baby. 🙂

I have two golden retrievers who are my babies. One just turned 4 and finally starting to mellow a bit but is nowhere near gettiong gray hair. But my other dog is 11 and is sooo grey. It’s hard seeing your babies get older. But the vet says he’s aging beautifully 🙂
Don’t feel bad about your garlic bread, the premade kind is probably full of preservatives and not nearly as healthy as the kind you made 🙂
Holly says
Loveee garlic toast/bread so yummy. My doggies are getting “highlights” too and they aren’t even very old poor guys.
peanutbutterfingers says
I know! Sadie is only 3!
Lauren says
Awww 🙂 Our dog, Sammy, is getting “highlights” too. I just started noticing them this year. He’s almost 7.
Leslie says
I <3 House Hunters! My husband and I started watching when we started townhouse hunting and after we bought one (about a month ago) we noticed we loved it soooo much more when we were hunting for a home. But it's so fun to see the beautiful homes and get inspired for your own!
Sara @ Fun Simple Sweet says
I’m a ways off from getting my own home, but my ideal house would be at the beach. I’d love to have a house that sits right on the ocean that has a nice view of the water from my bed! If that doesn’t happen, I’d like to have a home that’s not far from the beach at least! 😛
