I learned this valuable lesson as I assembled my lunch in the breakroom today and I heard several people proclaim, “Ew, what is that smell?”
I heated up my ‘kraut and headed on my merry way, making a mental note not to enjoy lunches that include sauerkraut during peak lunchtimes.
I served the stinky sauerkraut on top of an aidells Italian Style chicken sausage which I enjoyed in a super-soft Nature’s Own Whitewheat hot dog bun.
The sauerkraut/chicken sausage combo was delish!
I know sauerkraut isn’t for everyone, but for a German girl like me, it’s the jam!
Alongside my protein-packed sausage I enjoyed fresh grape tomatoes and cucumber slices for some color.
Pre- lunch I also enjoyed an iced green tea from Starbucks that I picked up after stopping by my orthodontist’s office to get my permanent bottom retainer in. (How cool am I? 😉 )
(Wow. Can’t believe I just posted that pic. We’re all officially best friends now.)
Sad news though… the green tea quickly went from this:
To this:
I seriously inhale any cold beverage other than water. Water is the only thing I seem to struggle chug-a-chuggin’.

Question of the Afternoon
What nationality are you? Do you like foods that are typically associated with your nationality?
I am German and Swedish (right, Mama?). I adore foods associated with my nationality, including brats, cabbage, apple strudel and pretzels.

I absolutely love your blog and look forward to reading it every day! This is my first comment too!
I’m English and associate most traditional English food with cold weather (I wonder why?!) I love winter comfort food, such as hot pot (just love the root veggies!), stew with dumplings, cottage pie and yummy roast dinners!
Unfortunately, traditional English meals aren’t too great for the waistline – cornish pasty anyone?!
Of course, I do eat healthier meals as well!

I am Ukrainian and Polish and I am not too crazy about the foods from my nationality. Perogies, Borscht, Kielbasa: I’ll eat them at my grandma’s or on special holidays, but I wouldn’t want them everyday.

I have a permanent retainer just like yours! You’ll hate it soon, especially if you eat popcorn or fruits with skin.

Yumbles! I looooove kraut! My grandpa has a great recipe that seasons the kraut up with sauteed onion and green bell peppers and LOADS of paprika! Super delicious and takes some of the sourness out of it!! (He always made it with pork, of course, but that can be left out or substituted!)

I’m studying abroad in Germany for the summer, so eating sauerkraut is just about a necessity! I had never actually had it before leaving the states, so I’m pretty sure I’m getting spoiled over here!

I have a permanent retainer on both top and bottom! Like Julia said though, popcorn is a killer…and so are the pips from strawberries and raspberries. I bring toothpicks everywhere with me 😉
I’m English/French/Vietnamese, so mum always made loads of asian food when we were growing up. Egg fried rice is my go-to comfort food when I’m feeling homesick! My grandmother makes the BEST spring rolls as well 🙂

Stinky, but sooo good! I actually have some in the fridge just waiting for me on Sunday. Love it on hot dogs!
I’m half a Italian, Cuban and Polish.
