As I’m sure you can imagine, things are a little stressful over here right now. Moving is never a simple process and there have been some issues popping up with our temporary housing situation. We’ll be in a hotel for a few days until our temporary apartment is ready for us to move into later this week. It will be a lot of picking up and moving from place to place until we find somewhere to live in Charlotte, but I suppose that’s all part of the adventure.
Ryan’s first day at his new job is today and I am going to be driving to Charlotte with Sadie as soon as I pack up some things and publish this post. I’m hoping we’ll be there when he gets off work!
I am currently blogging from my parents’ place in Jacksonville. I spent all day Saturday in Ocala packing and tying up some loose ends (we aren’t moved out of our house there just yet – that will likely come when we find a place to live in Charlotte since our lease runs through August) and then I had a lovely Father’s Day with my family in Jax yesterday. Now I’m in Charlotte-mode and ready to get settled in our new hometown!
Workout
This morning I went on a run with Sadie. I wanted to tackle five miles on the beach since I’ll be sitting for more than six hours in the car today. During our run, we stumbled upon something very special.
Sea turtle tracks!
I took them as a wonderful reminder that the simple things in life are the best things. They made me smile and I needed a smile this morning. I am thrilled to be moving to Charlotte but sad to be moving farther away family. I will miss them terribly.
While I was running, the volunteer sea turtle patrol roped off the nest where a mama sea turtle laid her eggs last night.
Sadie and I made sure to give them lots of space and sat down to stretch and watch the process.
(She decided my lap was more comfortable than hard-packed sand.)
To continue on with the 10 Day You Challenge that I’ve totally neglected, I’ll share two songs I loved on today’s run…
- Shai – If I Ever Fall In Love (Acapella): This song came on during my post-run stretch and I absolutely adore it! It takes everything I have not to belt out every single word. “Aaand if I ever (EVER!) fall in love again, I will be sure sure that the lady is a friend!”
- Bell Biv DeVoe – Poison: Not the classiest of all songs, but it’s so darn catchy! It helped me pick up the pace a bit today.
Breakfast
Once our run was done, we headed inside and I grabbed a quick shower and assembled an easy breakfast.
I polished off the last of a large container of cottage cheese and topped it with fresh blueberries, cinnamon, sliced almonds and cashews.
Plus a LUNA bar and lots of water on the side.
I’ll be back later today with part two of my San Francisco Stitch Fix recap that I typed up over the weekend, but the next time I blog in “real time” I’ll be comin’ at you from Charlotte!!!
Have a great Monday!
Lightened Up Summer Fare Giveaway Winners
Congratulations to…
- Laura W.: “My favorite dish to enjoy at a summer cookout is definitely turkey burgers from the grill! And I like to bring fruit trays as a healthy dish (helps me avoid eating a thousand cookies!)”
- Andi Z.: “I am ALL about the corn on the cob as a side dish to everything in the summer! I also love to bring along big bowls of fruit salad or fresh veggies with interesting salsas and dips to bring a little health to the otherwise potato salad/cole-slaw/fried dishes that are in abundance.”
- Britt: “I recently fell in love with deviled egg past salad. If you haven’t tried it, you MUST! My favorite item at a BBQ has to be grilled corn on the cob, with lime chili powder butter. MMM!”
All of the giveaway winners were emailed first thing this morning. Thanks to everyone who entered!

You guys have so much going on lately! How does Sadie do with long car rides? My dog looooooves the car but anything over 3 hours makes her crazy (well, crazier). Hope things go well today!
Julie says
She’s usually a trooper! Hoping she does well today!!
Paige @ Your Trainer Paige says
I somehow missed that you’re moving to Charlotte!! I’ve heard it’s such an amazing city, but I can definitely relate to missing my family. Colorado is the BEST…but it’d be so much better if my family lived here, too <3
Mary says
Looking forward to hearing about Charlotte as you settle in and discover the city and new jobs. Good luck with your move . Excited for you.
Kelsie says
Have a safe drive!!
Liz L. says
That’s so cool that you and Sadie saw turtle tracks this morning! We were in Sarasota a couple of weeks ago and we were hoping to see some turtle tracks on the beach some morning (my 5 year old is a huge turtle fan!). We weren’t so lucky but we did see many nests that volunteers had roped off. I’ll have to show him your pictures! BTW, I had commented on your Sarasota post about the Ringling museum…we all loved it! My kids had a fun time – the circus museum was definitely kid-friendly as you described.
Good luck with your move up to Charlotte!
Julie says
So glad you loved the museum!!! It’s so fun!
Alicia says
Welcome to Charlotte! I’m an avid reader and happen to live in Charlotte. I’m happy to help you with your transition process if you need anything, even if you just want to know what to do, where to run, or where to eat!
Julie says
Thank you so much Alicia!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
I am so excited to hear more about your Charlotte adventure! I actually might email you and ask you a few questions about moving and making that big of a life decision! 🙂
Leah @ goodnight cheese says
Moving really is the worst, you have my sympathies. But when you’re all settled, it will be wonderful! This seemed to have happened so quickly – from interviewing to getting the job to starting the job and moving. How did your work go when you told them you were leaving?
Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne says
That is so cool you got to see sea turtle tracks!! I’ve always wanted to see one in person (without a piece of glass in between us haha). And your cup, reminds me, I need to get a Venti cup to use for water!! And I’m just finding out your moving! Omg, that has to be scary but exciting at the same time. Next summer there is a big chance I may be moving across the country, and it scares me because I’ll be leaving family, but excites me all the same 🙂
Greta @ fueledbyfresh says
Safe travels!! Moving can be very stressful but everything eventually falls into place and settles down!
Lauren @ Will Run for Boston says
That is so cool that you saw sea turtle tracks! What a cool thing to just stumble on during your run. Have a great drive with Sadie! 🙂
Natalie @ Twenty-Something Talk says
Mmmm your cottage cheese breakfasts have been making me crave it lately!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
Oh man, I can totally relate to all of the craziness that goes with moving – especially to another state. I had to remind myself numerous times to take a deep breath and just take it day by day. My Type A self wanted everything to immediately just be settled, but as my husband reminded me, then there’d be no journey and that’s no fun. 😉 Good luck with the move and safe travels! xo
Megan (The Lyons' Share) says
Beautiful post, Julie. I saw your picture on Instagram and thought it was cute, but it’s so much more meaningful with the lesson you attached to it here. Moving sucks – plain and simple – but you WILL get through it, and I know there are great things waiting for you ahead!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
SO exciting! Good luck with the move!
Katie says
My mom is a volunteer sea turtle patrol lady (living in South Carolina outside of Beaufort), and when I went to visit my parents a few weeks ago, I took the early morning walk up the coast with her looking for turtle tracks. It was so neat! We saw a few “false tracks” (meaning the mother attempted to nest, but for whatever reason decided against it and went back to sea). It’s so beautiful when you see the baby sea turtles waddling towards the ocean. 🙂
Lyndsey says
This is random, but a girl on another blog I read is moving to Charlotte and she is a runner/fitness girl. Yall seem like you would be fast friends. You should check out her blog, if you are not already familiar, Simply Taralynn. 🙂
Nichole says
What a beautiful sight!! Good luck with everything. I can’t wait to hear more about the move and the new city. Moving away from family definitely isn’t easy, but cherishing every moment you have to together makes it a little better. xox
Heather @ No Bologna Blog says
I had NO idea that there was such a thing as “Volunteer Sea Turtle Patrol”!!!!! So interesting! I do love that reminder though – the small things that warm a heart and bring joy! 🙂 Safe travels to you today!

Travel safely! Can’t wait to hear about the adventures in Charlotte!

Poison is just one of those songs you just can’t NOT jam to haha. I was much older before I realized what they were talking about in that song. Lol

When I was younger all I wanted to do was work with sea turtles! Oh….I ordered my NASM kit today!!!!!!!!! Wish me luck!!!

Moving is stressful! I wish you the best with your move and getting settled in. It’s always hard being away from family, but it’s still a manageable drive and seeing them will only make it better!
Lauren @ Focused To Be Fit says
When I was in Florida last week, we saw so many of the sea turtle areas blocked off. So cool that you got to see the footprints – and I certainly think it’s a reminder simple things are the best!

Love that Sadie girl!!!!!

Hi Julie! I’ve been a reader for awhile! I just moved to Charlotte last July with my hubby and our three dogs. I live near the University area and am also a personal trainer (just recently) and a group exercise instructor here. Let me know if you have any questions, and I’ll try to answer them! =) Good luck with the move!

My other favorite health/fitness blogger is also moving to Charlotte. I would just die and go to heaven if you two became friends! Her name is Taralynn McNitt from http://www.simplytaralynn.com previously Undressed Skeleton.

Went on my first Florida beach run while on vacation this weekend. It was even more beautiful than your awesome pictures make it look! I’m jealous of your sea turtle tracks! We were on the lookout. 🙂
Alexa says
Good luck with your move! I’m sure it will all be worth it in the end, and this way visiting with family will be even more special 🙂
Also, I just had a quick question about running on the beach: so is the hard-packed sand that you run on the sand right near the water? And do you run on the beach in running shoes still? I just started running(C25K on the treadmill only) but I’m going to be on the beach for a week at the beginning of July and I want to take advantage of it, but I don’t want to start to hate running!
Kerry @ Half Healthy, Half Nuts says
I am super excited for you guys and your big move to Charlotte! Can’t wait to come along for the ride! Charlotte is beautiful!! Much different than flat ol’ Florida! Safe travels!

Good luck today! I know first hand just how stressful moving is and can only wish you the best – and plenty of patience!
kate says
I am sure it’s probably a bit less stressful knowing you have so much time between moving to Charlotte and moving out of your Ocala home! But the commute sure doesn’t sound like fun!!
Livi says
So many people are down on cottage cheese, but I love it!! That looks yummy!
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
Good luck!! We just moved to VA a week ago and I can remember how stressful it is. Just remember it is so worth it once you are there and settled in!
Sheri says
I LOVE that your second favorite song is Poison. I am much older then you and Bell Biv Devoe was my favorite group when I was in college. Poison brings back all those fond memories for me.

Beautiful run! Good luck on this next week or 2!
Florence says
I LOVE when my workout has extra rewards! The sea turtle tracks must’ve been a sight!
Amy says
Sounds like a very stressful time! But you’re absolutely right, stopping to notice and appreciate the little things, like turtle tracks, makes all the difference in your outlook and how you respond to that stress. One day at a time, right?! I’ll be visiting Charlotte in October for the first time and can’t wait to see how you and Ryan like the city once you get all settled! Best of luck to you both!
Anna says
Sending some prayers your way! Moving is never easy. My parents moved last summer and being away from them is super hard, so I know the feeling! But it’s also fun to visit them, makes it super special! I hope you have a safe trip!
Polly @ Tasty Food Project says
Best of luck with your move! I know moving is stressful but it will be all worth it when you’re all settled in.
That’s awesome that you saw sea turtle tracks! I’ll be in Maui next week and I’m so excited to see sea turtles!

I need to find some gorgeous running views like this. Seeing those turtle tracks is just so beautiful. I wish you safe travels and good luck with your move!
Heather @ PrettyHealthyMostoftheTime says
Sadie is so stinkin’ adorable! My dogs are so furry they would die if I tried to run them on the beach. The worst part about summer is that they don’t want to cuddle me anymore 🙁
Good luck with everything!

Oh Julie I can relate to the stresses of moving. I just got out of mylease early to move into a safer and nicer building and theres been countless headaches with my previous landlord. And then the physical moving over weekend has left me exhausted. Good luck 🙂
Amelia says
How cool to see sea turtle tracks on your run! When I first read the title of the post, my immediate thought was, ‘is that a new ice cream flavor?’ Haha, pregnancy brain.
Don’t worry, it will all work out with the move. Trust me, I know after moving over 10x in 1 1/2 years and back and forth across the country. Can’t wait to hear more about the adventures in CLT.
Lauren says
Congratulations to Ryan on day 1! New job, new city – very happy for you both! ~ Sadie too 🙂
