Have you guys heard of the Shazam app?
My sister added it to my phone when she was in town last weekend and it is so freakin’ cool (and free!).
If you hear a song on the radio and want to know who sings it or simply the name of the song, you tap a button (that swirly button in the middle of my phone’s screen) and the app listens and identifies the song and even brings up lyrics!
It’s ridiculous.
Shazam came in particularly handy on our road trip from Ocala to St. Pete this afternoon. I could’ve sworn I heard a random song on the radio singing the words “camel toe” and just to make sure I wasn’t crazy, I Shazamed the song and found out I wasn’t losing my mind.
Oh, camel toes.
Lunch
Ryan and I drove to St. Pete this afternoon to beat some traffic, though we both have work to do before we can relax for the weekend.
We’re in town for the Women’s Half Marathon in St. Pete on Sunday and I’m still waiting for the excitement of the upcoming race to set it like it did when we arrived in Savannah for the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon two weeks ago. I’m thinking that the race weekend excitement will hit me when we head to the race expo tomorrow!
(Side note: I used Thesaurus.com to try to find another variation of the word “excitement” for the above sentence because I can’t stand repeating words and could not think of an alternative word for excitement for the life of me. Thesaurus.com’s suggestions were basically amazing and I was quite tempted to used “titillation” and “hullabaloo” but inevitably decided to just do a word repeat. <—Stuff you never needed to know.)
When we walked into my parents’ house this afternoon, I immediately fixed myself a lunch that included tuna salad, raspberries and ginormous pretzels.
I love hard pretzels. They remind me of the pretzels I eat when I visit my grandmothers in Pennsylvania!
Time to work!
My mom also requested that I go through some of my old books and clothes in the closet in my bedroom, so that’s also on the agenda for today. Last time we went through a box of my things from childhood we had a good laugh, so I wonder what will turn up this time!
Shazam is awesome!! Hope you have a great race!!
My boyfriend has Shazam. He’s always using it and loves it!
Have so much fun at the race! Thinking good time thoughts for you!
I love Shazam, but always forget about it. I need to use it more 🙂
I use the app Sound Hound. It’s does the exact same thing! I absolutely love it!
Never heard of Shazam, but I would definitely put it to use! I’m always saying the wrong lyrics when singing, and I never know who sings songs. Ha!
Have fun sorting through boxes! I have done that almost every time I visit my parents’ house this past year. I have SO much stuff from when I was younger, it’s crazy. You’re right though, it’s fun to go through it all and think of all the memories!
It takes me forever to go through boxes of childhood crap. I have to pick up every individual piece and think about it for a while before trashing it (or putting it in another box to go through 10 years from now)
Sounds like a cool app! I love going through boxes of stuff, but hate getting rid of things – even if I don’t need them. I have to repeatedly remind myself, they are just things – keep the memories toss the stuff…it’s easier said than done 🙂
I’m obsessed with shazaam and have had it forever! I always love going through old pictures from my memory box when I go home. I laugh at all the different hair colors I’ve had and all the bad fashion.
Those apps come in so handy! Sound Hound is similar to Shazam and it works well, too!
I love Shazam! And going through old things… it’s always entertaining! It takes me forever because I usually end up looking through every photo album etc, but it all brings back good memories. Have fun!
That is like my favorite app! Well I have “Sound hound” instead of shazam but its the same concept. I love it to because i can go back in the history an download the songs directly from itunes out of there if i want! 🙂
i love shazam! i’m totally amazed how it works! i tried to trick it with a duet song that was sung by the same guy but 2 different females, and shazam got it right!
amazing!
I love Shazam! I use it probably once or twice a week. It’s such a great idea and so handy. 🙂
Try sound hound! I’m not sure if shazam also does buy sound hound gives you scrolling lyrics too!
That app is what I need! I always know the words to songs and never know who sings them. Love thesaurus.com, you can make yourself sound oh so intelligent…or should I say astute/enlightened/discerning/clever…I could keep going! 🙂
you are good at keeping people in suspense for your next posts. You should be a tv show editor!
ha! i honestly didn’t even mean to on this post at all!
I figured, but I can’t wait to see what interesting things you find in your closet! lol
Excitement is a tough one! Maybe elation? That’s going to bug me all day. Ha! Have a great weekend.
I remember shazam from years ago. I thought I remembered my brother telling me they put a limit on how often you can use it, but I hope not because it’s so great!!
My boyfriend has shazam on his phone. I remember when he first got it, I would try to imitate vocal-heavy songs and see if it would be able to recognize them from my voice. It never did, but he had a good time laughing at me as I tried. 🙂
i tried the same thing!
Shazam is great…for long car rides, it may be the most useful app on my phone!
LOVE shazam. use it almost daily and that way when i make new playlists on itunes, i just look at my “tags”!! You can never remember what songs you like when you want to!!! hahah
All the best on the race! Have a great weekend 😀
One word that I always notice you using is “enjoyed” when referring to what you’ve eaten 😀 it’s like a trademark pbfingers word!
i’ll have to thesaurus.com that word!
I’m excited to head home next week so that I can dig up some old photos. Throwback pictures are so fun to look at!
please use hullabaloo in your everyday speech.
Hahhahahaaaa hullabaloo is one of my favorite words ever. When I was a kid, I was playing scrabble against my dad, and I swore up and down that the word was actually HUBOO (since that’s all I had letters to make). I even told him it meant “excitement or really exciting” before he realized the word I should have spelled (but didn’t have the letters for) was hullabaloo!
Cleaning out closets can definitely bring some laughs. I always like to do it with my sister, and we usually end up in tears from laughing so hard! Let us know what you find!
Gah– I LOVE Shazam! Will actually downloaded it to my phone the other month and I’m constantly doing my own karaoke session wherever we go 8)
I somehow tried the SoundHound app before Shazam and I’ve heard that with SoundHound you can speak lyrics or even hum a tune and it will identify the song! I haven’t used those functions yet, but I love the app!
I was craving tuna salad this week, so this post just sealed the deal, I must make tuna salad asap!
Please, please start using the word “hullaballoo” in your posts. Please.
One of my coworkers was talking about Shazam at lunch today! We also discussed the Key Ring app that allows you to register all of your rewards cards, etc into one location and it gives you special offers when available. My lunch break was consumed by this app and I’m very excited about it!!
I agree with the above statement, “hullaballoo” is a MUST on your posts!! 😉
My husband has Shazam on his phone and I’ve used it for tons of songs to use for fitness classes I teach! It rocks.
I just downloaded Shazam!! Thank you for the recommendation 🙂
Synonym for excitement…”thrill” to set in? race weekend “energy”? That is a toughy…but if you didn’t point it out, I wouldn’t have noticed the word repetition! 🙂 Have a great weekend and good luck during your race!
I was sooo awful at remembering songs or even recognizing who sang them until I got Shazam. Love it!
Be careful, your Mom might be wanting that room back. Maybe a wine room? Or a meditation room?
The Kidless Kronicles
I have had Shazam for years now. It has been a great tool for me to collect song that I hear on the radio that I want to use for my spin classes! Hope you find it useful.
I LOVE those big crunchy sourdough pretzels! yumm 🙂
That app sounds awesome! I’m going to have to download it. I love crunchy pretzels like that! They are my favorite. 🙂
Have fun!
That sounds like such a cool app but ever since I got Sirius in my car, I never have to wonder because the name and artist always appears. Love that!
Finally!! Someone else who hates repeating words in the same sentence (or paragraph). My husband and sister think I’m weird because I always try to find a different word to use.
I haven’t tried Thesaurus.com yet, but I will definitely keep it in mind for the next time I need some “hullaballoo” or
‘titillation” when writing 🙂
Repeating words absolutely drives me crazy! I don’t mind when other people do it, but I really get annoyed at myself. Must be that English degree in me. (Reading your blog, though, I would say you have a fantastic variety in your vocabulary!) 🙂
I like those big pretzels too! Are you running another half again already? Good luck!!
Shazam was the first app I downloaded when I got my first iphone 2.5 years ago and I use it ALL the time in the car. I’m horrible at knowing artists so it’s perfect and the best part is it links right to itunes and with the press of a button I can download the song! Technology these days… 😉
Ahahaha wait. I AM GETTING SHAZAM. Meowmeow pretzels and rasps for the win, meow meow
I seriously use shazaam wayyy too much! It’s so awesome. Yay for another half. Good luck! 😀
Hahah hullabulloo is such a fun word to say…titillation just sounds dirty!
I’ve never used Shazam but I couldn’t live without thesaurus.com – I’m always guilty of repeating the same words so I wind up using it at work all the time.
Also, those raspberries look AMAZING.
I use Shazam too! Also – I have to know – what lyrics did you mishear as “camel toe?”
Totally downloading that app!!
I tried to sing into Shazam once as a joke to see if it knew the song I was singing, and I managed to break my iPhone. Yep. People like me should NEVER sing. Even as a joke!
