Lunch today had to be quick because I was way too unproductive this morning and needed to kick it into gear this afternoon, beginning with a fast lunch!
A smoothie bowl!
Looks gross, tastes great.
In the mix:
- 1 c. milk
- 1 c. honey Greek yogurt
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 c. frozen strawberries
- 2 tbsp. cocoa powder
- 1 handful fresh spinach
Plus an unphotographed nectarine and some string cheese on the side.
Now for some fun!
Shower Sequence
About a week ago, Ryan and I were discussing our shower sequence. You know, what you wash first, second, third, etc. when you’re in the shower.
(We talk about really deep things. For the record, Ryan brought up this particular topic of conversation.)
We realized that we both have completely different shower sequences and it got me wondering what most people do first… shampoo/condition their hair or soap down the bod?
(Not sure why I decided to bring that picture out of the archives… The towel wrap screamed “shower!” to me and seemed like the closest thing I’d find for a blog appropriate picture for this topic. PBF = Nudie free zone. Oh and don’t you wear a towel wrap with black tights and slippers?)
Anyway, my shower sequence looks like this:
- Shampoo
- Wash body (while the shampoo is “setting,” so my hair gets extra clean)
- Shave legs (sometimes)
- Rinse out shampoo
- Conditioner
- Wash face (while conditioner is “setting,” so my hair gets extra silky)
- Rinse out conditioner
Ryan washes his face first, then his body and finishes with shampoo. Apparently he doesn’t bother with letting his shampoo “set” to get his hair extra clean. Does any one else do this? I can’t be the only one!
Question of the Afternoon
- What is your shower sequence?
Alexa @ Simple Eats says
I love this, haha! I do things a little differently. I was my face, then shampoo, then scrub scrub my scalp, then rinse, then put conditioner in and shave while it sets, then I wash my body to get all the extra shampoo/conditioner off!
Lisa@HealthyDiaries says
This is exactly what I do too! 🙂
Jaapna says
Me too!!!
AceRunn says
Me three. but I usually shave my underarms while shampooing, and legs while conditioning.
Jenn says
Exactly the same! It just makes the most sense! If I don’t get the conditioner off my body I feel like it’s going to clog my pores and cause bacne or something haha
Amanda @FancyOatmeal says
Amazing! That’s my sequence, and the exact same reason why I put conditioner on before washin’ the bod. I also shave 2nd to last because I feel my pits have been properly warmed up by then.
Susan says
Your smoothies look so delicious!!! How do you get them so thick? Every time I make mine, they end up a little watery. Do you add ice to yours?
Hilary says
Me too!! I always wash my face first bc I feel like the steam will set the makeup in my pores causing more breakouts. Who knows if this is true haha
Carly says
I do this too! hahah 🙂
Lindsey @ Happy or Hungry says
haha. my lovah and I have had this convo as well. I am the same order as you, except I don’t let my shampoo set, only conditioner!
So it is shampoo – rinse – conditioner – wash bod – wash face – rinse conditioner. Fun times.
Dani says
Same! Only the conditioner “sets,” not the shampoo!
Joely says
I’m usually just a lurker, but I had to respond to this one (fun topic). I wash hair first, then the bod, then shave, then exfoliate the feet. LOL! I prefer quick showers, so this works for me, takes me maybe 6 minutes when I shave 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
confession: i don’t think i’ve ever washed my feet in the shower. 🙂
Jessica says
Haha! It’s ok me either. Unless I get done playing sand volleyball or something like that.
Kim says
My husband doesn’t wash his feet either!! It is SOOO gross!! They get stinky and sweaty too guys!! ; )
Hope says
This is so funny! I never thought to ask my fiance what he does in what order. I think I will tonight!
My order is wash face, wash body, shampoo, shave, rinse hair, conditioner, then rinse conditioner. I don’t use too much conditioner because it makes my hair feel greasy.
Olivia @ PeanutButterNerd says
I shampoo and immediately wash it out so my hair doesn’t get too dried out (its curly), then I put in conditioner and let it soak while I shave, or just let it soak in while I absorb some hot water on my skin to wake up, then I have to comb it while there is still conditioner in it (the only time I comb/brush my hair is when it’s wet or it looks poufy and weird) and then rinse out the conditioner! Then wash all the shampoo/conditioner excess off my body, because I hate the slippery feeling it leaves.
Also I only ever fully wash my hair like once or twice a week cause of my curly hair – it air dries and takes a long time so it’s quite a pain to do!
Hannah says
I have curly hair too and this is exactly what I do as well! I HATE combing my hair if I forget to do it while I have conditioner in it! And I also hate to wash my hair because I never know whether it’s going to decide to curl well or funky when I dry it.
Glenneth says
My shower sequence is EXACTLY the same as you! You make the most fabulous looking smoothies!
Khushboo says
Haha I love this! I rinse, shampoo to set, shower gel, face wash, shower gel again and then rinse! I stopped using conditioner because I found it made my hair appear flat- apparently there is such a thing as hair being ‘too conditioned’
Amanda says
yeah i can say the same as Lindsey… I don’t let the shampoo set but I do with the conditioner while I wash the bod and face. Then I shave the legs before the showers over! 🙂 What a cute picture haha love it.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I always let my Conditioner “set” but not really my shampoo, b/c I scrub pretty hard with the shampoo.
I also always rinse the conditioner out with colder water because it makes the hair silkier, shinier, and much better looking (TRUST me, because I have thin, blonde hair that never looks that amazing or full!)
I want a smoothie now!!
Krystina (Organically Me) says
I shampoo, condition (leave in the conditioner so my hair is super soft and shiny), wash my face, wash my bod, wash out conditioner, and then give one final rinse through everything.
Emily says
I wet my hair, shampoo my hair, rinse, then put my condition in and let it set while washing my body and shaving and stuff! Then rinse of course 😉 I’ve never heard of letting shampoo set! 🙂
Whitney L. says
First, shampoo and condition hair, then wash body, then shave legs and under arms, then wash face last:)
Gia says
OMG that is so funny. I just had a post – shower sequence conversation with my husband. Lotion, q tips, face lotion, leave in conditioner. he uses 2 q tips, I use 3.
Its hilarious the topics of conversation that randomly come up in marriage!!!
BTW I am such a shampoo setter.
Hilliary @ Happily Ever Healthy says
I was my hair and then put the conditioner in and let it set, rinse my conditioner out, wash my body and then my face. I don’t know why but I have to wash my face last!
Your smoothie sounds delicious! I think I will need to make a smoothie for a snack!
Marina says
Fun topic 🙂 I first wash my body, then my hair, and if I use the conditioner, I let it on a bit while washing my face/shaving. Never tried the other order of showering 😀
kath says
Haha – I love shower sequences.
Mine is determined by the order of importance should my shower get interrupted by an earthquake, fire, running out of hot water.
Most important = shampoo
[Don’t let it set in case I have to jump out quickly!]
Second = Conditioner
[Do let this set]
Soap
Shave [sometimes 🙂 ]
Face = least important
Maria says
This is the exact order shower in! I feel like you do it this way in case you need to immediately escape from the shower, though haha. I don’t think I’ve ever been in the shower during an earthquake or fire. I can guarantee, the next time I’m in the shower, I will ONLY be thinking about earthquakes and fires 🙂
Julie says
I let my shampoo set too! Except for sometimes in the winter, I get nervous that it will dry my hair out too much.
Krista says
I do the exact same sequence, except I don’t wash my face in the shower, I use my clarisonic by the sink. I exfoliate (most days) while I wait for my conditioner to “set” instead!
Shannon says
Me= Shampoo-Wash Face-Rinse Shampoo-Conditioner-Shave (everyday..I’m complusive about it)-Rinse Conditioner- Wash Body-Done!
Future Hubs= Shampoo-Rinse-Conditioner-Rinse-Wash Face-Wash Body-Done! He shaves at the sink.
He doesn’t see the point of letting it “set”..oh men…
Rachel says
wet my body, hair, face > wash body > rinse > wash hair > rinse > wash face
i usually shave at a totally different time- i’m horrible at standing and shaving my legs 🙂
Brittany *Sparkles* says
Yes! I start with shampoo too bc it’s important to get to the conditioner which I like to leave in a few minutes 🙂 Guys don’t have that issue… they don’t really need conditioner as most of them have short short hair.
And same on the shaving legs being occasional lol I’m so lucky I’m not a hairy person – bc I get to be pretty lax when it comes to this 🙂
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
Me: shampoo and then conditioner on top of it (I let it all soak in at once) — then wash body/shave if needed — then rinse out hair and then wash face.
Jason: wash face, body wash then shampoo
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I let my conditioner set but not my shampoo… So i do shampoo, conditioner, everything else, then wash out conditioner.
Kathleen says
I shampoo first, rinse it out, condition, wash body/face while conditioner “sets” and then rinse BUT if I have to shave I do that after I wash my body (they say to shave later on in your shower so the heat opens up the hair follicles and makes it easier – who knows who “they” is but I listen!).
And I’m digging the pic – it actually reminded me that I want to buy a shower wrap soon – so thanks!! 🙂
Mary says
I’ve never thought about letting my shampoo set. My sequence is: shampoo, rinse, conditioner, wash face, rinse conditioner, wash body. And, it has to be in that order or it just doesn’t feel right.
Katie says
so funny! i do the same as you except switch up face wash and body wash/shaving so: shampoo, wash face while shampoo is ‘setting’, conditioner, shave/wash body while conditioner sets.
sometimes i don’t use shampoo so my hair doesn’t dry out too much and then my sequence gets all out of whack haha
laurel anderson says
1. Shampoo (I immediately rinse and don’t repeat)
2. Condition (I have to leave this stuff in forever bc my hair is destroyed after 12 years of coloring)
3.Take off my eye makeup and wash my face
4. Shave
5. Wash my bod
6. Rinse conditioner
Katherine says
Haha i have definitely had this convo too.
My routine is similar to yours except I don’t let the shampoo set, only the conditioner. Also, I rinse out my conditioner before washing my face because I’m afraid to get conditioner on my face and cause breakouts.
eliza says
My shower sequence is very similar.
right away I shampoo, then wash my body, while the shampoo is in my hair. Rinse. Then add conditioner (I was always told by my mom to let your conditioner sit for 3 mins–but sometimes I get antsy!) while conditioner is in my hair I wash my face + maybe shave. basically waste time while conditioner is in my hair. Then rinse out and stand under shower head wishing I could stay there forever!
I love showering and sometimes if I am stressed taking a shower is the ONLY thing to help me calm down–weird right?!
Margo says
If you are shaving, you should do it last! It prevents irritation. If you shave first and then soap from your hair/body gets into the pores that’s an easy way to get razor burn! But otherwise the routine looks like mine 🙂
Joanna says
My shower sequence is almost identical to yours! I like shampooing before going to the body wash because I have long hair so the lather of the shampoo helps keep it twisted into an oh so fancy mound on my head & out of the way of the body washing action. So there’s definitely a reasonable thought process behind it.
Molly says
1. Shampoo and rinse
2. Conditioner and leave in
3. Wash body with body wash and poofy poof
4. Wash face
5. Shave ONLY if needed
6. Rinse out conditioner
7. Towel off still in the shower cause it’s still warm from the hot shower, no way my cold wet body is going into the rest of the bathroom before it’s dried off!
Cait's Plate says
We’re pretty similar – I usually do: shampoo, shave one leg, conditioner, shave the other, wash body, wash face, done!
Taryn @ TheFitFlosser says
This post made me laugh with its randomness.
First I shampoo, then I condition. I let the conditioner set while I scrub my face with Pro-active, then I scrub my bod with Dove soap and an exfoliating glove. While all that sets I shave (sometimes). Then I rinse and emerge so fresh and so clean.
Mary says
What a fun topic! Here’s my order:
Shampoo, Rinse, Conditioner – let it set while I wash my face, brush my teeth (yes, I brush my teeth in the shower lol!), wash the body, (maybe shave) and then rinse off hair & body.
ashley says
1)shampoo
2)conditioner
3)shave if necessary
4)wash body
5)wash face
6)rinse out conditioner
7)rinse of face wash
Alison says
Oh my god, Julie, this right here is why I love your blog! just light hearted fun, this really made me laugh!
shampoo, wash, condition, shave, wash face, rinse conditioner…dry, lotion, dressed 🙂
Anne @strawberryjampackedlife.com says
Shampoo, Rinse
Shave Legs
Wash (begin with legs if haven’t done it with shaving, then go up)
Wash Face
Takes about 5-10 minutes.
I used to have a shampoo that required 3 minutes of setting.
Also, I know that you have fine hair, have you thought about NOT using conditioner? I don’t use it any more. If I’m going to be drying or curling my hair, I might use a spray leave-in. Anyway, my hair is still plenty soft and silky.
Claire says
Hi Julie!
I have a blog post request….
Have you ever considered doing a pros/cons list of full time blogging? I would be interested to hear what your thoughts are on the topic and how your life has changed for the better (or worse) because of it. Also I’d be curious to know how you’ve been feeling about your move out of Orlando. I’m sure it’s been a big change and it would be cool to hear your thoughts on how it’s affected you.
Anyway, I’ve been interested in these topics for a while, but I thought the best way to find out the answers would be to ask you directly!
Kaelin says
I dont let my shampoo set in, but I do wash up and shave while my conditioner sets. It is interesting that everyone does it a little differently!!
Rachel says
This is the best topic ever! I’ve always wondered about this. I usually wash hair and rinse, shave (if needed), condition, wash body while conditioner sets, rinse out, wash face!
Nicole says
Hahaha this is incredible. Face wash – Shampoo – Shave legs (sometimes)- Conditioner – Wash body while it’s setting… 🙂
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
Haha this makes me smile because my husband and I have had the same exact conversation before! My routine:
1. Shampoo hair and rinse
2. Condition hair and let sit
3. Wash face while condtioner is sitting
4. Rinse off face and rinse out conditioner
5. Wash body
It’s kind of a funny thing to think about because it’s so routine, most people don’t even think about doing it differently.
Linda says
My shower sequence goes like this:
Wash face, shampoo hair, wash body, rinse shampoo out, conditioner, shave, rinse conditioner out. I too leave my shampoo in to work on getting my extra clean.
Sue says
Fun topic. Here goes:
1) wash hair (I use a shampoo/conditioner 2 in 1)
2) wash face
3) rinse hair and face
3) wash rest of body
3) rinse body
4) shave (if I need to)
5) rinse once more before I get out of the shower
Have a great weekend.
Shayla @ The Good Life says
I feel like leaving the shampoo in my hair would make me itchy??!!
I do though leave my conditioner in (for extra silkiness) while shaving my legs or washing my body…anyway, here’s my sequence!
1. wash my face
2. shampoo hair, rinse
3. conditioner
4. wash body
5. shave (when needed)
6. rinse out conditioner
Trainer Kjirsten @ Balanced Healthy Life says
I shampoo, rise, condition, shave while the conditioner is setting my hair, rise hair, wash face and then soap off right before getting out of the shower!
It is funny how people have their own routine!
Jessy (squeezetheday) says
Haha, my shower sequence is pretty much the same as mine!
Jessy (squeezetheday) says
Whoa, that makes sense, haha. What I meant to say is that my shower sequence is pretty much the same as yours (or vica versa).
Ashley says
This so funny. I’m currently curious as to what my hubby would say. I *think* I know what he would do, unless he changes it up when I’m um, not in the shower with him…
1. shampoo and rinse
2. put in conditioner
3. brush teeth (hope I’m not the only one that does that in the shower…)
4. wash body
5. shave my legs
6. wash my face
7. rinse out the conditioner
chelsea says
1. Shampoo
2. Wash Face
3. Condition
4. Wash Body
5. Shave
6. Rinse :)!
That’s really funny! I never thought about how people wash things differently in the shower, but there are so many orders you could do it in!
