Late this afternoon, I loaded Sadie and a stuffed duffel bag into the car and hit the road for my parents’ house in St. Pete.
Ryan will be arriving tomorrow and my dad is out of town on business through tomorrow, so today was a girl’s only day! I wanted to get in town early to spend extra time with my grandma who is visiting our family for Thanksgiving from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
I absolutely love that photo of her from our wedding.
When I arrived, I caught up with my mom, sister and grandma for about an hour until Leslie and I headed to her friend’s house to play with her two dogs that Leslie is dog sitting.
Meet Macy and Tucker!
Macy wasn’t so sure about me at first, but we became fast friends…
After playing with the dogs, we headed to Target to pick up some food and spices that we’re planning to use in several dishes that we’re contributing to my mother-in-law’s amazing Thanksgiving feast.
By the time we arrived home, we were hungry! Leslie and I made my favorite BBQ meatloaf for everyone with roasted green beans, potatoes and corn on the cob.
Robes and pajamas are 100 percent acceptable at our dinner table.
After dinner, Leslie and I ate a million Oreos that we bought to use in a special recipe tomorrow. Eventually we had to portion out the amount of cookies we need for the recipe in a Ziploc baggie so we didn’t eat into our stash.
Apparently we’re cookie monsters.
Our post-dinner activities included dying knee socks orange.
Care for some sock stew?
They’re part of our Turkey Trot costumes and we’re assembling the rest tomorrow. Gobble, gobble!
Off to check on the socks one more time before hopefully getting in bed a little early. Goodnight!

I dont really like oreos plain – but i made oreo truffles tonight and they are amazing, however in my opinion ANYTHING that is dipped into chocolate is good 🙂

I love seeing your mom always so involved in all of your family’s important activities even though you and your sister are out of college. She seems like such a thoughtful and involved mother. So nice to see!

I can’t believe Leslie is wearing shorts and a tank top in November! We’re so cold in Cali right now!
BBQ meatloaf sounds so much more interesting than a regular one made with ketchup. I’ve never thought to try that.
Khushboo says
How do you eat your Oreo? I always split it in half- seems to make it last longer 😀
Nicole P says
You have the cutest grandmother ever- she looks like a very sweet person!
sarah says
That meatloaf looks so good! I don’t know why meatloaf has such a bad rep and no one in my family is even willing to try the ‘gourmet’ remixes. I will have to pitch this as an idea. Your grandma looks so sweet, I remember watching the wedding video and she was adorable.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
Whoa–FUN. I totally love socks for dinner!
Jenn @ Lotus and Pie says
Looks very tasty!! Julie, how does Sadie travel in your car with you? Does she have a little seatbelt? As a wanna-be dog owner (one day I will have one!) I don’t know what’s safe for them or where they should be etc. How does Sadie usually roll with you? 🙂
Heather H. @ Run Eat Play says
I hope your making that oreo mint ice cream thing. I made it once after seeing it on your blog and everyone loved it!
Can’t wait to see your costumes!

Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I love getting to hang out with my mom and grandmother, I hope you had a great time! And I LOVE Oreos! I ate them like crazy growing up! I need to find out if there’s a gluten free equivalent!
Jena says
I’m interested to see what your turkey trot costume is going to be? Are you doing the 10k or the 5k? I’ll also be at the SPT T-Trot, I’m doing the 10k.. … i should register .
Meatloaf is one of my Husbands absolute favorite meals – I make them into over sized meatballs so we each have our own little “loaf.” We don’t use BBQ sauce, but we do use brown sugar/ketchup/mustard.. a less than healthy concoction but very tasty.
Hillary says
Haha I love how hardcore you guys are getting about these costumes! I can’t wait to see the finished product!
