Good morning!
I hope your day is off to a good start!
My Wednesday began with an early morning workout. I kicked off my time at the gym with 20 minutes on the elliptical before completing Workout C from Tina’s Best Body Boot Camp.
Since I’m on week two of phase two of the boot camp, I have already completed Workout C once before and I think I can safely say it’s my favorite boot camp workout to date. It incorporates bursts of cardio with a total body strength training routine that includes five second holds that make my muscles burn. I love it!
Breakfast
Breakfast came together in a flash thanks to a little bit of prep work last night.
I made a batch of overnight oats and topped them with a sprinkling of walnuts this morning.
I also added a splash of eggnog to give the oats a little holiday flare before digging in.
‘Tis the season!
Question of the Morning
- What is your favorite holiday beverage? Eggnog? Hot chocolate? Spiced cider?
I am a sucker for peppermint hot chocolate with extra whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Yes!
Carrie @ Fitness and Frozen Grapes says
I had overnight oats (in a jar) for breakfast this morning, too! Great minds … 🙂 I love hot chocolate and spiced cider, but I don’t care for eggnog; I can’t get past the thicker texture. I also love chocolate too much to pass it up. 😉
Nancy says
Wow! I put eggnog in my smoothie this morning. 🙂 My favorite holiday beverage might be cider. or peppermint hot chocolate………
Heather @ Run Eat Play says
Looks yummy! I am not a big eggnog fan, but I love spiced cider and I love all the seasonal coffee flavors. Right now I’m drinking a gingerbread k-cup! yum!
Khushboo says
I love hot choc, even more so in the winter!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
I LOVE eggnog! My parents picked up some dairy-free egg nog so that I can enjoy it too. I always love using a bit as coffee creamer. yum!
Daybelis says
Julie, your eats always look so good OMG lol. Ever since I made your baked oatmeal, my mom won’t shut up, she keeps asking for more and more -_-. Your overnight oats look delicious and definitely scream Fall. My favorite holiday beverage has to be hot chocolate. I always make it with almond milk, cinnamon and a bit of nutmeg. I wish I could chug down eggnog, but I simply can not… it just freaks me out a bit lol. Hope you have a great day!:)
peanutbutterfingers says
haha! i <3 your mom!
Rachel Boller - Busy Mama says
Baked oatmeal? I need to know about this. 🙂
Elaine says
Oooh that sounds so good! I’m going to add some to my oatmeal as soon as my grocery store starts selling it! My favorite holiday beverage is definitely hot cocoa…with or without a splash of Baileys. 🙂
Julie @ sweetly balanced says
I’ve never really been a fan of eggnog, but I love hot chocolate and all the fun flavored coffees that come out around the holidays!!
Taryn says
I love hot chocolate with peppermint – from a candy cane, peppermint schnapps, or even just Dunkin Donuts mint hot chocolate. Yum!
Karey @ Nutty About Health says
Ooh, those overnight oats look good!!
My favorite holiday beverage is egg nog, although I rarely have it since it’s addicting & not exactly guilt free. It’s a nice holiday treat though! I also love my flavored seasonal coffees… I enjoy those all season long. 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
seasonal coffees are the best! i looove peppermint creme and peppermint mocha. mmm!
Alexa @ Southern Living, Our Way says
I love spiced {and spiked! :)} apple cider for the holidays. It just screams Holiday Season to me. But my mom does make a mean spiked eggnog, so I enjoy some of that every year, too!
{Eh, this comment may or may not make me sound like the Christmas drunky! Haha}
dana a. says
oh great idea with the eggnog! i made overnight oats in a peanut butter jar and cannot wait to eat them for lunch lol.
happy wednesday!
Laura @ My Pink Thumb says
Definitely a sucker for peppermint hot chocolate!!! mmmmmmmm
Taryn says
Eggnog all the way. It is so delicious but I can’t drink it without feeling guilty. My solution? I like to add a few splashes of eggnog to my almond milk. Still get that noggy flavor without all the guilt!
Abby says
Silk makes a delicious soy egg nog which tastes just like the real deal without all of the calories or cholesterol!
Amber K says
And So Delicious makes a coconut milk-based nog. Sooo good!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
I don’t mind eggnog, but it’s never been a favorite. Creamy hot chocolate is always a winner in my book! Homemade hot apple cider is also amazing!
{Haley @ The Saucy Apple} says
Hands down, hot chocolate! My favorite hot chocolate is the kind you make from hot chocolate shavings… that way when you get to the buttom of your cup, the “dregs” are extra-thick (extra-medium, some might say) and fudgy. 🙂
{Haley @ The Saucy Apple} says
ha! look at all the typos in that comment… sorry, Julie! It is a Wednesday, after all.
Translation:
hot chocolate shavings = chocolate shavings
buttom = bottom
But now that I think about it, “buttom” could totally be a replacement for bottom.
Krista @ Blonde Aesthetic says
eggnog is my favorite, but I think that comes from the fact you can only get it a couple months out of the year.I can get hot chocolate and cider pretty much all winter, leaving me more excited over eggnog. I definitely bought my first (of several) cartons on Monday and was so excited!! Plus, eggnog from scratch is harder to make than cider or peppermint hot cocoa!
Natalie @ Free Range Human says
I’ve actually never had eggnog. My favorite holiday drink is wassail. Oh my gosh, it’s so good!
Sabrina says
Mocha Mint Coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts is the best– I usually don’t like DnD coffee, but this one (sold at Target) takes the cake!!
Shauna says
eggnog! can’t drink much of it though as it has crazy calories, but it’s amazing
Kaitlin @4loveofcarrots says
I am a peppermint hot chocolate girl, Starbucks knows how to make it right! Not a fan of eggnog whoever I did find an eggnog scented candle that smelt glorious!
Yajaira says
Eggnog candle?! Please do tell the brand. I am in need of a new holiday scented candle.
Jana @ Newly Wife Healthy Life says
I actually only like eggnog mixed into things.. Like coffee or my oatmeal. I’ve never tried it in overnight oats.. Yum! My fav holiday drink is pumpkin spice lattes at Thanksgiving and peppermint mochas at Christmas! I am also a fan of classic hot chocolate with marshmallows and whip cream!
Stellina @ My Yogurt Addiction says
I LOVE hot chocolate, actually anything chocolate for that matter! There’s nothing like sitting by a fire on a cold night with some hot chocolate and whipped cream, mmm!
Liz @ IHeartVegetables says
Haha I’ve never actually had eggnog!! I’ll have to try it this season 🙂
Molly @ Just Your Average Athlete says
I haven’t either! I feel like we’re missing something important haha
Lindsey says
Breakfast looks yummy but have to admit I can’t stand egg nog.
Looks like you are rockin’ your bootcamp training..great job:)
Happy hump day
Tara says
I am doing Tina’s boot camp too, and I LOVE the workout that we did today. Those cardio bursts are the perfect way to break up the weight training and keep the body burnin!! Love it 🙂 My favorite holiday drink?? I would have to say egg nog, but honestly I am a total sucker for peppermint hot cocoa, spiced cider, and all of the flavored coffees at Starbucks…:)
Corey @ When We Wander says
I’m so boring when it comes to beverages – I can’t stand any of them! No eggnog, hot chocolate or cider for me! I’m more of a coffee and water only kind of girl!
Laura@HappySugarHabits says
Spiced apple cider or mulled wine is by far my favourite!
Rachel Boller - Busy Mama says
oh gosh, I looooove mulled wine. That’s our traditional drink during Christmas cookie assembly while my husband plays video games (EVERY YEAR).
Bethany @ Accidental Intentions says
I’m all about hot chocolate for sure! I haven’t had any in so long, so it sounds like an extra special treat right now.
Molly @ Just Your Average Athlete says
Favorite holiday beverage would be hot chocolate with mini-marshmallows (the more the better!) Frankly, I’d probably drink this year round, but I usually get weird looks if I try to order hot beverages during the summer. So now I shame-drink my hot chocolate in the privacy of my own home.
Lara says
I am definitely a hot chocolate girl! To be honest, I’m not sure if I’ve ever tried egg nog.
xox Lara at http://alittlebitelectric.wordpress.com
mj says
definitely egg nog for the cold drink and hot chocolate for the cold days (i make a batch of tyler florence’s recipe) and top with whipped cream and mini chocolate chips. yum!
Katie says
Hot chocolate is my favorite holiday drink. We used to have it all the time when we came inside from sledding, so it’s my idea of getting cozy when it’s cold out. Marshmallows or bust!
Alex A says
I love eggnog!!! I wish it wasn’t so bad for you. I need to try to find a healthier version of it!! I also love hot chocolate!! I want to make some homemade hot chocolate this year.
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I’ve actually never tried eggnog! We never had it growing up and at this point I’d have to buy a whole container just to try it… Not sure I’m ready for that commitment. I do love apple cider though, just a teeeeny bit more than hot chocolate.
Rachel Boller - Busy Mama says
You could go to a Starbucks and get a small egg nog latte? It goes with coffee soooo well.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I didn’t know they had those! Good idea!
Rachel says
I never had eggnog, it always smelt gross to me and I think the egg in the name threw me off haha I do like hot chocolate– only sometimes though, it gives me the WORST hiccups ever… like painful hiccups LOL so I’m more of a tea person lol
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
That’s so weird that it give you hiccups!
Mica says
I am a peppermint mocha girl all the way. I flip for it this time of year. However, my husband is an avid hot chocolate drinker, and this time last year, I found a NUTELLA HOT CHOCOLATE recipe! Perhaps that’s why he proposed around this time last year! 🙂
Haley Southey says
Hot chocolate is my favorite! And…anything Starbucks. (:
Sonja says
There is no way I can pick just one! During the Thanksgiving holidays, I like the hot apple cider. But when Christmas rolls around it is all about the peppermint! A peppermint mocha coffee would probably be my favorite.
I did just get some holiday flavored coffee for my Keurig…spicy eggnog, pumpkin spice, and gingerbread. They are all fantastic!
Claire @ Keeping Up With Claire says
I actually LOVE gingerbread lattes! If you go to smaller, specialty coffee shops they are SOO good. Starbucks makes a pretty good one too, but what DON’T they make good?
Rachel Boller - Busy Mama says
Seriously – Starbucks holiday drinks are always my undoing! They’re soooo good! As soon as those red cups come out, I’m doomed! 🙂
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
I have actually never tried eggnog…is that weird?? 😉 My go-to hot beverages during the holidays are hot chocolate and apple cider. So comforting and cozy!
Kerry @ Totes My Oats says
I love hot chocolate, especially with almond milk mmmmm!!!
Rachel Boller - Busy Mama says
Definitely egg nog lattes from Starbucks! As long as I make sure I run enough/lift enough to earn it first! Yum!
Anne says
Julie you are brilliant, oats were practiclly MADE for eggnog!
Em @ Yep. I Ate That. says
I am not a fan of eggnog….spiced apple cider is where it’s at for me!
Eryn says
I’m not much of an eggnog person, but love love love Pumpkin Spice creamer in my coffee. I look forward to it every year. Also can’t do without spiced apple cider. So warm and comforting!
Jolynn says
Spiced cider for sure!!! Has anyone had the caramel apple cider from Starbucks? Heaven.
Dr. Mark says
I have to say that my favorite holiday beverage is still my morning coffee. I just seem to enjoy it more on a cold day than other times during the year, especially when I have a morning with nothig to do.
Annette@FitnessPerks says
A splash of eggnog is great for me too–too much is yucky to me.
Ali @ WHOLEistically Fit says
I’ve never been much of an eggnog fan, but give me a peppermint mocha and I swoon! 😀 Dark chocolate hot chocolate is also another favorite. Even better if topped with a little whip cream and some marshmallows.
