On the menu for today:
- Curried cauliflower
- Roasted carrots
- Morningstar Farms Asian veggie patty
And a cup o’ Greek yogurt with a handful of mixed nuts went unpictured because I eat too fast for photos (and got distracted chatting away with a coworker).
This hot lunch really hit the spot. For some reason the weather in Central Florida decided to get a lil’ chilly again and I was in the mood for a warm meal. I’m still cravin’ some warmth and am planning on making myself an afternoon cup of tea momentarily. Warm mah belly!
On to some fun…
Spring Break
My sister left on a cruise for spring break yesterday and I’m feeling a little envious. I miss spring break! Knowing that she’s in the middle of the ocean partying it up with her friends sure does make sitting in an office seem a little dull this afternoon.
At least I have the memories of several super-fun spring breaks to get me through the day!
For my first college spring break, I decided to forgo the tropics in favor of visiting my friends in Chicago. Since I moved to Florida from Illinois right before I started college, I was anxious to see my high school gang.
Fast forward a couple of years and cruisin’ was the way to go! As a Florida resident, hopping on a cruise is a really cheap way to experience several tropical destinations in one short trip.
I went on my first spring break cruise with a bunch of my sorority sisters. We had a blast taking over the ship, drinking yards at Señor Frogs and snorkeling in Cozumel.
The following year, Ryan actually surprised me with a spring break cruise for two for Christmas. We had a great time and planned it perfectly because our ship stopped in Mexico on the same day that two cruise ships holding two of my best friends from Indiana University also docked in Mexico! It was fate and we all had a blast!
We seriously need to implement adult spring break! Who’s in?
(P.S. The Fashion page was updated today!)
Questions of the Afternoon
- Did you ever go anywhere fun for spring break? (Or if you’re a lucky duck and in college right now, are you going somewhere fun?)
- If you could go on spring break right now, where would you go?
Amanda says
I created my own adult spring breaks. Winter is too long not to! My mom, aunts and cousins go to our condo in Clearwater for a girls week in March/April. 23 days and counting!!
Shanna, like Banana says
Ahhh Spring Break =)
I went to Spain my Fresh year of College and on a Cruise my Sr year…lovely!
I just got back from Kauai for my adult spring break. Loved it!
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
I’m IN, 110%!! I need to get away from this SNOW…
Never went away for spring break during college, but if I could go anywhere now, I’d be back in St. Lucia, no doubt. 😎
Lauren says
Hm, I wish I was going somewhere this week for break instead of being trapped in by 2 feet of snow!
Danica says
I’m in college and decided to save my money instead of take a trip. So now I’m in Minnesota, where it’s 33 degrees and snowy, dreaming of a hot, sunny beach!!
Kat says
I’ve been reading your blog for a while, but have never commented. I’ve gotta brag to someone though! I’m a senior in college right now, and my spring break is next week. I’m leaving in two days to visit my fiance in Holland, and we’re taking a “vacation-within-a-vacation” to Paris while I’m over there. Sooo excited! 😀
Dana says
I’ve always been kind of phobic of typical “spring break” type vacations and locations (I don’t know… I picture an MTV-like scenario). For one break, I went to stay in Paris with my friend who was studying there. For another, said friend and I went to Israel for a week and a half. (She and I also did Vegas together and have gone back to our old stomping grounds in Boston together, as well… that’s what you call a travel buddy!).
Actually as soon as the weather starts to get warmer I start itching to get back to Boston and was JUST thinking about it. It’s not a beach but Spring in New England is pretty beautiful….
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
oh, I’m so with you!! I went to Key West freshmen year, along with my entire college… it was awesome!
Then one year we went on a cruise, and the other year was Destin… a little chilly, but the drinks were flowing, so we didn’t care!
Let’s start a petition for adult spring break!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I am SO in for an adult spring break….actually, my family is coming out to ski so we’re taking a “week off from life” and skiing and spending a week at a mountain cabin. SO excited! But a beachy/cruise sounds fab too 🙂
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
oh gosh, Julie, you TOTALLY read my mind.
this is my first year out of college with no Spring Break, and I’ve definitely got some SB fever in me… waaah!
who’s down for a quick cruise to Cozumel? Mexio? Bahamas? I’ll even drive to the Keys. gimme that sunshine!
..and maybe some tequila? 😉
Jamie @ getalivingsense says
I am currently on spring break, and am spending it in Austin, TX visiting with friends. I would LOVE to do a cruise though – they’re the best. Maybe next year!
Mimi says
My freshman year I drove down to Austin with my friend for the week! It was a blast.
This year, my fiance and I are going over-and-down to Arkansas to go camping.
One week is too short and too expensive for us midwesterners to go far!
Carrie says
I LOVE SPRING BREAKS!! this year im staying in london but my all time fav was south africa- amazing!!
right now.. I would go to AMERICA!!!!!!!!
Rachelle says
I’ve been to Cancun (twice) and Acapulco for Spring Break when I was in college at Boston University.
And I currently find myself going to back to Cancun next week which coincidentally falls on BU’s Spring Break 🙂
This time though, I’ll be going on a ‘relaxing’ vacation with my parents.
Amy says
I’m a teacher, so I still get spring breaks!!!
This year I’m heading up to Philadelphia with a few teacher friends for the first half of break to visit my sister, and then my mom is flying down to me (in NC) from Michigan (my old home) to visit for the 2nd half of spring break! It won’t be tropical, but I’ll see almost all of my family!
Hope says
I never used to go on Spring Break in college. I couldn’t afford it. My senior year of college, I did go to Disney World for spring break and that was a blast!
I would love to go to Disney World or Hawaii right now. I definitely need to go somewhere warm. 🙂
Samantha Shelton says
I’m going to Key West for Spring Break this year! Flying out on Thursday from Syracuse, NY and I can’t wait — I need to get away from this snow!
Sophomore year I road tripped it with my best friend to North Carolina and last year I flew with my roommate down to Nashville!
Megan @ Loving the little things says
Now you’ve got me all excited for Spring Break!!! I could REALLY go for some spring like weather!
Also, you share so many aspects of your life, I think it would be fun if you did this too!

Lauren says
I didn’t do much for Springbreak while in college. I didn’t have a lot of money. But now we do adult spring breaks. Last year we did car trip with our son up the Gulf Coast of Florida – all the way to AL and back. This year my husband and I are doing the adult only vacation in Cancun. We leave this Saturday !!
Alexis says
After looking out the window at the five inches of snow we got last night, I would go anywhere sunny right now. I wouldn’t even need to leave the country, really!
Nat says
My “springbreak” will consist of revising and drafting thesis chapters. I’m pretty sure that’s worse than a desk job.
Jenny @ loveeatrun says
Sophomore year of college I went to Florida, Junior year I opted out of Florida with my friends for a very cold camping trip with my then boyfriend (bad choice) and Senior year I went to Jamaica with a bunch of my sorority sisters…sooo much fun!
As for adult spring break…yes please!
Shelby says
My spring break will be spent in Louisiana doing spring training for rowing. Not really my idea of fun. I would much rather go on a cruise. My best spring break was spent skiing in Colorado. It was not really warm and sunny, but it was such a Blast.
Kelly says
Couldn’t have said it better myself! Just like some others commenting ahead of me, this is also my first year out of college — meaning first year without a Spring Break! What was I thinking trying to be studious and finish in four years?! 😉
Stacy says
I did a cruise two years ago while I was finishing my degree. :):) Now I’m working on my masters & working, so spring break means more time to work on projects & no classes!
brooke says
my husband went back to school to get his mba which means that we get spring break again! i am currently blogging from costa rica!! spring break 4 years after graduating undergrad = amazing!!
Lee @ Fit Foodie Finds says
I love love love love Spring Break. Whether I am going somewhere or not, it is just nice to have a mental break! Last year I went to Cape Town, South Africa. It was bomb dig. My sister was studying abroad there and I went for her 21st, which just so happened to fall on SB! This year I am going to Texas for the SXSW Music Conference. I am ready to be warm! Yeeeehaw.
Jenny says
so far I’ve spent my spring break rained in and at the gym. I want your life.
p.s. at first I thought your lunch was stuffing (ya know, like – from thanksgiving?) It looks awesome 🙂
Katie says
Ah, the perks of grad school = 5 more spring breaks!
[The bleh of grad school = 5 more years of school in cold, snowy, upstate New York.]
While I’ll continue studying/researching the first half of the week, I’m flocking south to TAMPA on Thursday to see my old college roommate!
(And for a split-second, thought about offering our painting services to Meghann of Meals and Miles!)
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
AGREED! I think adult spring break is mandatory. In February last year I was in Punta Cana for my grad trip with about 200 other people from my university and it was amazing!! Right now, I’d love to go anywhere with no snow (seriously, this is getting old!! I’d had enough snow in November!!) Maybe to the Bahamas… ahhh that would be lovely!
Robyn says
That’s the beauty of working in Higher Education— we still get Spring Break! YUP, that’s right… next week, I get my break! We only get 1/2 the week off when the students are gone, but still, I’ll take it! It makes for a FABULOUS 4 day weekend!
Alyssa says
I don’t have a spring break anymore but I am headed to Key West on Friday for a week 🙂 I need a break from this crazy weather up North!!
Lisa @ I'm an Okie says
Love these flashback posts! I just might have to implement this since I am going on a Spring break trip next week! 🙂
Lindz @ Happy or Hungry? says
I have been to fun places on spring break, but never somewhere warm and tropical, sadly…
However, I DO get adult spring break! I work for an education organization so we get the same week off as high school students…hurrah! Ontario’s break is next week though.
Your pictures are making me want to book a trip immediately.
Clare @ Fitting It All In says
Ugh, totally with you on the adult spring break. I’m so jealous of my friends that are still in school!
I think I’d go to…hawaii! I’ve neve rbeen!
Amanda says
I’m going to ORLANDO for spring break in two weeks with my fam 🙂
Not too exciting for you, I’m sure.
We are only going to be in that area for about a day. We are mostly going to be in Ft. Lauderdale and maybe Key Largo. Orlando is just to see the Harry Potter World, or whatever it is.
Clarissa @ soberandthecity says
Anywhere warm please! The bf and I took a couples vacation to Emerald Sands, Bahamas last summer which was awesomesauce. I’d love a spring vacation other than a long weekend please!
Katie says
My spring breaks in college were mostly spent working and celebrating my birthday with my friends from home. But in high school my family went to Hawaii and ended up taking an extra week off school so we could get the most for our money. 😉 It was awesome.
Chicago Cuisine Critique says
I’m in! How do we make this adult spring break happen!
Kelly says
Being in Texas the popular spring break destination was South Padre Island and then crossing the border and going to Mexico. (It was TONS safer 10 years ago). Wow…I now feel really old! haha!
Caitie @ The Caitie Experiment says
I was *just* thinking the same exact thing over the weekend! I keep seeing my younger sorority sisters’ status updates about their plans and it’s causing some serious “I wish I were still in college!”-itis.
Best spring break was my senior year (07) — 17 KDs in a beachfront villa in Negril, Jamaica. We had an all-inclusive party and meal package and spent our days soaking up sun and playing in the surf and the nights meeting new friends from other schools and dancing until dawn. SO. MUCH. FUN!
Cassie says
I would love to have adult Spring Break…and fall break…and Christmas Break…and summer…I’m sure I could think of more!
Annie says
I’m stuck working while my little brother is visiting family in Puerto Rico, and my hubby is on spring break from school!
I would love to hop on a plane and fly to Greece. I’ve had an itch to go back ever since my parents went last August. Adult Spring Break should be mandatory!
Jess@atasteofconfidence says
I’m lucky and am in college! I’m going to Florida with my fam and boyfriend:)
Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries says
I’d go anywhere warm! How about a blogger spring break?! 😉
Steph says
Fortunately for me, med students get spring break too! After my exams next week, my roommate and I are off to napa to drink wine for a week 🙂 certainly different than my spring breaks in college, but I can’t wait to learn all about wine!
Jenna...lifeinjenneral says
OH the memories of Spring Break! I work on a college campus, so I get ubber jealous seeing campus empty!
I second that, a blogger spring break!! let’s do it 🙂
britt will be fit says
I only went local
Jennifer says
I’m a PhD candidate and teaching fellow at a university so I do get spring break next week. No big plans, though. I was just joking this morning that I am going to be vacationing on Long Island with my family–which is less of a big deal when you know that I spend almost every weekend with them! But, still, nice not to have to get dressed up to teach for an entire week!
I’d love to be going someplace warm. It’s still a bit cold in NY!
Caree @ Fit-Mama says
I went to cancun for spring break my senior year of college and had a BLAST! ahhh, to be in school again!!
I seriously would go anywhere with a beautiful beach, clear water and a cocktail in hand with lots and lots of R&R!!! I can daydream, right? 😉
