Spring Break

March 7, 2011 by Julie 90 Comments

Spring break talk in un momento. First, lunchtime!

Monday Lunch

On the menu for today:

  • Curried cauliflower
  • Roasted carrots
  • Morningstar Farms Asian veggie patty

And a cup o’ Greek yogurt with a handful of mixed nuts went unpictured because I eat too fast for photos (and got distracted chatting away with a coworker).

The Goods

This hot lunch really hit the spot. For some reason the weather in Central Florida decided to get a lil’ chilly again and I was in the mood for a warm meal. I’m still cravin’ some warmth and am planning on making myself an afternoon cup of tea momentarily. Warm mah belly!

On to some fun…

Spring Break

My sister left on a cruise for spring break yesterday and I’m feeling a little envious. I miss spring break! Knowing that she’s in the middle of the ocean partying it up with her friends sure does make sitting in an office seem a little dull this afternoon.

At least I have the memories of several super-fun spring breaks to get me through the day!

For my first college spring break, I decided to forgo the tropics in favor of visiting my friends in Chicago. Since I moved to Florida from Illinois right before I started college, I was anxious to see my high school gang.

Fast forward a couple of years and cruisin’ was the way to go! As a Florida resident, hopping on a cruise is a really cheap way to experience several tropical destinations in one short trip.

I went on my first spring break cruise with a bunch of my sorority sisters. We had a blast taking over the ship, drinking yards at Señor Frogs and snorkeling in Cozumel.

Sorority Spring Break Cruise

Fishy Face!

The following year, Ryan actually surprised me with a spring break cruise for two for Christmas. We had a great time and planned it perfectly because our ship stopped in Mexico on the same day that two cruise ships holding two of my best friends from Indiana University also docked in Mexico! It was fate and we all had a blast!

Leaving Miami

We seriously need to implement adult spring break! Who’s in?

(P.S. The Fashion page was updated today!)

Questions of the Afternoon

  • Did you ever go anywhere fun for spring break? (Or if you’re a lucky duck and in college right now, are you going somewhere fun?)
  • If you could go on spring break right now, where would you go?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I created my own adult spring breaks. Winter is too long not to! My mom, aunts and cousins go to our condo in Clearwater for a girls week in March/April. 23 days and counting!!

Never went away for spring break during college, but if I could go anywhere now, I’d be back in St. Lucia, no doubt. 😎

I’ve been reading your blog for a while, but have never commented. I’ve gotta brag to someone though! I’m a senior in college right now, and my spring break is next week. I’m leaving in two days to visit my fiance in Holland, and we’re taking a “vacation-within-a-vacation” to Paris while I’m over there. Sooo excited! 😀

I’ve always been kind of phobic of typical “spring break” type vacations and locations (I don’t know… I picture an MTV-like scenario). For one break, I went to stay in Paris with my friend who was studying there. For another, said friend and I went to Israel for a week and a half. (She and I also did Vegas together and have gone back to our old stomping grounds in Boston together, as well… that’s what you call a travel buddy!).

Actually as soon as the weather starts to get warmer I start itching to get back to Boston and was JUST thinking about it. It’s not a beach but Spring in New England is pretty beautiful….

oh, I’m so with you!! I went to Key West freshmen year, along with my entire college… it was awesome!
Then one year we went on a cruise, and the other year was Destin… a little chilly, but the drinks were flowing, so we didn’t care!

Let’s start a petition for adult spring break!

I am SO in for an adult spring break….actually, my family is coming out to ski so we’re taking a “week off from life” and skiing and spending a week at a mountain cabin. SO excited! But a beachy/cruise sounds fab too 🙂

My freshman year I drove down to Austin with my friend for the week! It was a blast.

This year, my fiance and I are going over-and-down to Arkansas to go camping.

One week is too short and too expensive for us midwesterners to go far!

I’ve been to Cancun (twice) and Acapulco for Spring Break when I was in college at Boston University.

And I currently find myself going to back to Cancun next week which coincidentally falls on BU’s Spring Break 🙂

This time though, I’ll be going on a ‘relaxing’ vacation with my parents.

This year I’m heading up to Philadelphia with a few teacher friends for the first half of break to visit my sister, and then my mom is flying down to me (in NC) from Michigan (my old home) to visit for the 2nd half of spring break! It won’t be tropical, but I’ll see almost all of my family!

Last year we did car trip with our son up the Gulf Coast of Florida – all the way to AL and back. This year my husband and I are doing the adult only vacation in Cancun. We leave this Saturday !!

My sister was studying abroad there and I went for her 21st, which just so happened to fall on SB! This year I am going to Texas for the SXSW Music Conference. I am ready to be warm! Yeeeehaw.

[The bleh of grad school = 5 more years of school in cold, snowy, upstate New York.]

While I’ll continue studying/researching the first half of the week, I’m flocking south to TAMPA on Thursday to see my old college roommate!

AGREED! I think adult spring break is mandatory. In February last year I was in Punta Cana for my grad trip with about 200 other people from my university and it was amazing!! Right now, I’d love to go anywhere with no snow (seriously, this is getting old!! I’d had enough snow in November!!) Maybe to the Bahamas… ahhh that would be lovely!

I was *just* thinking the same exact thing over the weekend! I keep seeing my younger sorority sisters’ status updates about their plans and it’s causing some serious “I wish I were still in college!”-itis.

Best spring break was my senior year (07) — 17 KDs in a beachfront villa in Negril, Jamaica. We had an all-inclusive party and meal package and spent our days soaking up sun and playing in the surf and the nights meeting new friends from other schools and dancing until dawn. SO. MUCH. FUN!

I’m a PhD candidate and teaching fellow at a university so I do get spring break next week. No big plans, though. I was just joking this morning that I am going to be vacationing on Long Island with my family–which is less of a big deal when you know that I spend almost every weekend with them! But, still, nice not to have to get dressed up to teach for an entire week!
