Lunch today snuck up on me!
Before I knew it, my stomach was grumbling and I needed food!
Fact: This meal looks horrendous.
But lots of shredded cheese has a way of making me overlook an unattractive dish!
I began by sautéing a chopped chicken sausage in a skillet while I steamed some cauliflower in the microwave. I then added leftover roasted Brussels sprouts to the skillet, followed by the mashed steamed cauliflower and a boatload of shredded cheese.
Easy, satisfying, ugly and delicious!
March Book Club
With the majority of the votes, the winning book for the PBF March Book Club is…
The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. We’ll be discussing this book on the blog on Friday, April 5. I can’t wait to start reading!
Now let’s talk about St. Patrick’s Day running gear…
St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear
Are any of you out there planning to run in a St. Patrick’s Day race?
Ryan, my sister, my sister’s boyfriend and I will be running in a 10K on St. Patrick’s Day and ever since we signed up to participate, we’ve been sending each other costume ideas. You know we like to dress up for races together!
Here are some winners:

These girls look so cute in their green tutus!
More St. Patrick’s Day gear that caught my eye…
I saw a bunch of women wearing fun sparkly skirts over their leggings or compression shorts at the Women’s Half Marathon a few years ago and thought they looked awesome! (Bachelor fans, I think we know Tierra would be all about this one. Sparkle.)
You guys know how obsessed I am with these headbands by now. When I saw the shamrock headband on their website, I just had to have it. A headband that doesn’t slip that’s also peppered with lots of little shamrocks!? Oh yes! (Get psyched because YOU have a chance to win a $40 BICBands gift card that you can use toward one at the end of this post!)
- Target $1 Bin Finds
Surely I’m not the only one out there who gets suckered into the Target $1 bins? I found a bunch of goodies in the $1 bins last weekend that I picked up for our upcoming race, including blinking bracelets, wigs, light-up rings and more. I was especially pumped about the neck ties!
Just in case your running shorts are a little too big.
I’m not gonna lie, these PRO Compression shamrock socks shamROCK my socks off. (Sorry, I just can’t help myself.) I saw Monica and SkinnyRunner blog about them last week and was so excited when they sent me a pair to try! (You can use the promo code MARCH for 40% off any of their marathon socks or calf sleeves right now!) I can’t wait to wear them during next Sunday’s 10K!
- More Fun Knee-High St. Patrick’s Day Socks
Target comes through in the clutch again with a bunch of knee-high St. Patrick’s Day socks for only $5!
I found this little gem in the Race Junkie’s Etsy shop and thought it was adorable!

I’m prepping for a fun run with friends on St. Patty’s day. We’re decking ourselves out with green paint and outfits- Tutu’s are obviously necessary!!! We are hoping to finish like last time and enjoy green beer! Our tongues turned green and we won best outfits prizes afterwards at a local pub 🙂
Alayna says
My mom used to hide shamrock glitter in the pockets of all my pants the night before st. patrick’s day! I always got so excited there had been leprechauns in my room during the night :P. And my favourite St. patrick’s day food is definitely Irish soda bread.
Shannon in Tustin says
I looooooooooove Bicbands!
On St. Patrick’s Day I always make corned beef sandwiches for my family. I cook the corned beef then slice it gently and make grilled sandwiches on marble-rye bread with melted Swiss cheese. It’s a party for sure!
I’ve got those cool compression socks–can’t wait to wear them. I’m not running a 3/17 race but I’m half-Irish so I don’t need a holiday to wear shamrocks! 😉
Erin says
My running race cycle always seems to start with a St. Patrick’s day event. I am an 8k here in Portland at the Shamrock Run.
Beth says
My favorite St. Paddy’s Memory is being in England with my college roommate and finding an Irish Bar in London.. spent the evening getting “spirited” with the locals!

Angela @ Health's Angel says
To be honest with you, I’m not big on St. Patrick’s Day. Buuuut it’s one of my best friend’s birthdays so I love to celebrate with her for that reason. 🙂

Hey!!! I was super excited to see ur title! I have actually just recently signed up to run a Shamrock-n-Run 8k in New Orleans with my sister in law. She is my usual running partner so it may not seem that special, however, we begged the boys to do it with us….. And….. they agreed!!! I still can’t believe I got Dustin, my husband, to sign up! I have always wanted him to get into jogging/ running so that we could do various races together!!! So, anyways, I want this one to be extremely special!! I want him to get that excitement and anticipation that makes ur heart pound before u even begin the race! I have been looking for cute green accessories to add to our running gear to spice things up. I’ll def have to go visit target after looking at ur great finds!!
Lauren says
Every year we always eat “blarney stones” which are amaaaazing but so not good for you! Pound cake, frosting, and peanuts!! It all started with my grandma and we continue the tradition!
Melinda says
Who doesn’t like a little Irish cream with their coffee on St. Pats Day?
Alexis says
I would love to win! My favorite saint patty’s day memory is when I saw The Strokes in concert on st. Patrick’s day in 2011. The atmosphere of the concert was super fun and mostly everyone was dressed up in spirited st. Patrick’s day clothes.

Vicki says
We’re Scottish by heritage, not Irish, but every year my mom makes corned beef and cabbage for dinner on St. Patrick’s Day.
This year, my small group leader is making corned beef and cabbage, and doing a craft night. Also, her and a bunch of my friends from church are running in Chicago’s Shamrock Shuffle 8k, which ironically is no time near St. Patrick’s Day. Very weird….
Kathleen Alfano says
Oh my goodness I want this giveaway bad!!! I love BICbands!!!! My favorite st patricks day memory is eating green spaghetti that my aunt used to make for my cousin’s birthday, which is on st. Patrick’s day!

I should look into a St. Patrick’s Day race – sounds like some fun! My most recent favorite St. P’s memory was rallying up my best friend and meeting my little bro and all his friends at a bar nearby – crazy cover and all! And Julie, thanks for recommending Bic Bands – I LOVE them!!
Sarah Whitney says
They used to dye our little cartons of milk and orange juice green in elementary school. I used to think that was one of the coolest things on the planet! My favorite adult memory is from last year, when a friend rented a limo on a whim for all of us, and we spent the whole night in the city. It was so fun!

Jodi says
Green beer is my favorite tradition! But obviously I need to work off all those calories so I always participate in the Irish Jig, a 5k in my hometown. The BicBands would be perfect for this as I am transitioning from winter headbands to cuter ones for spring and summer!
Leia says
Love the green beer for St. Patty’s Day!
Jessie says
$40 giftcard towards BICbands.com is AMAZING! That would be a favorite Christmas present. My favorite thing to do on St. Patty’s Day is to leave huge green leprechaun prints or destroy the classroom while students are at recess or overnight (I have experienced both). It is so much fun to blame the mess on the leprechaun and to watch the kids reactions. So much fun!
Jess says
Had a blast last year celebrating St. Patty’s Day with awesome girlfriends!

My boyfriend and I have a tradition of making green chocolate chip pancakes!

Last year, I ran my first marathon on St. Patrick’s Day! It was the Rock N’ Roll DC marathon and it was AMAZING.
This year I can’t run because I have a stress fracture but my twin sister is taking my bib and keeping the tradition alive! I’m so proud of her and can’t wait to go cheer her on!
Kim says
I live in Canada so St. Pattys is often too cold for my liking, but my fav memory is a few years ago when it was a scorcher! We were walking in tshirts and shorts to the bar with all our dollar store gear on. After sweating too much (yes that hot!) our necks turned green from our necklaces. We were definitely all out in spirit after that.
Jess says
Corned beef and cabbage!
Annika says
I LOVE margaritas on St Patrick’s Day. They are great any other day, but I mean they are green! So who wouldn’t want them on St Patty’s day too!!

Shannon says
Although I am very Irish, I hated that my parents made the whole: cornedbeef, cabbage, potatoes, and Irish soda bread. But now that I’m older, I am keeping the tradition alive…even though I only like the potatoes.
Beth says
St. Patrick’s Day on my 21st birthday – an awesome 3 days of green beer which helped to cheer on my alma mater to some March Madness basketball wins!
Megan S. says
St.Patrick’s Day is my dad’s birthday so it’s always fun to celebrate. But — I went to Miami University (OH) and we have a long standing tradition called Green Beer Day. All the bars open around 5:45am and students basically dress in green, drink green beer, eat green foods all day long. This always happens on the Thursday before our Spring Break because most likely our Spring Break fell over St.Patrick’s Day. It’s not the best tradition to have, but it certainly is a ton of fun! (Except if you have a professor who does not think it’s fun to participate in and makes you come to class anyways)
Lynn says
I’m running a 5k called The Irish Jig for St. Patty’s this year! Would love to win this!!
Zoe says
Wow I’ve been dying to try BIC bands for a while! but money’s been tight.
Well i’m in college right now so GREEN BEER is the way to go!! I always try and wear green of course and always get away with saying “my eyes” if I forget.
