Changing up my workout routine or taking time to plan out a quality workout is one of my surefire ways to motivate myself to get to the gym and reignite my exercise-lovin’ fire.
After I published my evening blog post yesterday, I popped into my Google Reader to catch up on weekend posts by my favorite bloggers. (For those of you unaware of what exactly Google Reader is, check out this old post: For the Non-Blog Savvy Folks.)
My friend Tina’s personal training blog is a great resource for workout inspiration and her post yesterday reminded me to do something I’ve been meaning to do for weeks.
Sign up for Best Body Fitness’ Boot Camp!
Yesterday was the last day to sign up for Tina’s low-cost ($25!) boot camp which promises to be a “fun and flexible way to train” and includes regular emails from Tina with new workouts to follow six days a week. The boot camp lasts through the end of April.
(EDITED TO ADD: Tina is extending the deadline to register for her bootcamp through today only so if you want to sign up, pop on over to her blog to register!)
Today’s workout began with a 20-minute cardio warm-up followed by a total-body strength workout that focused on a lot of stabilization moves. I cannot post the workouts on the blog because that would completely compromise Tina’s program and I want to respect her hard work and the other participants who paid for the program.
What I am able to do is highlight some of the moves on the blog and today I wanted to highlight the Bosu lunges.
(Source)
Holy crap, these were hard!
I used two 20-pound dumbbells to do the lunges and my legs were shaking and I was breathing heavy. Ryan looked over at me when I was about halfway through and I practically barked, “This is SO FREAKIN’ TOUGH!” at him.
Needless to say, boot camp is off to a great start!
Breakfast
After spending time at the gym completing a quality workout, I wanted to fuel my body with a quality breakfast.
I made scrambled eggs with three eggs, a splash of milk, a handful of shredded cheese and a bunch of chopped vegetables.
Plus half of a toasted whole wheat bagel spread with a bit of Smart Balance! (Ryan had the other half.)
I love cramming vegetables into my breakfast. Getting a jumpstart on my veggie consumption for the day rocks!
Though the Best Body Boot Camp program doesn’t include a nutrition plan, it does encourage participants to make two individualized goals. They can relate to food, positive thinking… anything!
The two goals I’ve selected for the boot camp include:
- Eat 5 servings of fruits/vegetables daily
- Drink at least 9 cups of water daily
They’re goals I feel like I already should be doing but all too often seem to fall to the wayside. I’m hoping that participating in the boot camp program and having the support of other participants will encourage me to eat those fruits and veggies and guzzle water like it’s my job.
P.S. The Fashion page was updated this morning!
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
Good luck with the Boot Camp! It sounds like a great idea! 🙂
Love the scrambled eggs. They look yummy.

I am doing Tina’s bootcamp also! I am quite excited. My workout will come this evening!
peanutbutterfingers says
awesome!! i love the community she’s creating!
Sarah says
Cool! So this is a virtual bootcamp?
peanutbutterfingers says
yes! she emails participants the workouts and we just write them down and follow them on our own time.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I love the Bosu trainer–because it really rocks the core and makes you stabilize by working harder! hah.
Have fun with bootcamp and your goals! P.s. I love sneaking veggies in at b-fast too–great kick off to the day!
Katrina @ 'Sota is Sexy says
Love this! I used to lead a Boot Camp class and now teach a total strength workout called Group Power. I’m always looking for new moves to incorporate into our workouts and will definitely be adding in those BOSU lunges!
peanutbutterfingers says
oh my gosh, i didn’t think they’d be THAT hard, but they were! especially if you go slooow.
samHOTmess says
Breakfast looks amazing!
And it seems like your food photo shoots are really getting better!?!? Is it in my head? Have you made any changes recently?
peanutbutterfingers says
thank you!! i haven’t been doing anything differently, but i appreciate your kind words. 🙂
Brittany (Healthy Slice of Life) says
Wahoo for boot camp! I’m excited to get started today, too. It’s the kick in the butt I need to add in strength, but I’m nervous for how sore I’m going to be. Here goes nothing… 🙂
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
how fun! i’d do the bootcamp if i wasn’t starting half marathon training in a week or so. i’m sure the support of others and the awesome workouts by tina will be a fun change up!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
Oh gosh those lunges had me shaking too!! And I was only using 12lbs because that was the highest I could find! Loving bootcamp already!
Blog is the New BLack says
You go, girl!
Khushboo says
Yuck at those lunges- they sound scary!
Jana @ Newly Wife Healthy Life says
That’s awesome! I love Tina’s blog and her idea for boot camp! It looks like it is going to be such a great program. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it along the way!
Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon says
I’ve just recently discovered the bosu ball and have so far incorporated bosu pushups and bosu blanks with leg lifts into my workout routine. The added challenge of balancing on the ball REALLY engages your abs! Those lunges look like quite a challenge….a challenge I’m ready to TACKLE!!
Good luck with the rest of boot camp!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Ooh BOSU lunges are one of my faves! It’s amazing how much a little instability from the BOSU can work the muscles so much more than regular lunges. Sounds like a fun workout!
Hilliary @Happily Ever Healthy says
Good luck with boot camp! You will rock it, and those are some great goals!
Amy says
oo awesome!! i love bootcamps they’re so fun. i might have to sign up today! anything with a bosu ball is always killer..i love/hate that thing
Lena @ Fit on the Rocks says
I love moves on the BOSU. I really want to buy one, but at over $100, I’ll stick to the sweaty, used ones at the gym…sad.
Theresa says
your veggie scrambles always make me drool a little bit..I need to get on the whole eating more fruits/vegetables every day wagaon…i’m good sometimes and then not so good at other times. id love to be more consistent.
Kelly Strobel says
Hi Julie, I’m new to your blog! Thanks for the Google Reader tip, believe it or not, there are still non-blog savvy people out there, like myself! 😀 Consider me subscribed. I love the idea of a virtual bootcamp to kick-start spring. I’ll have to check that out!
peanutbutterfingers says
so glad you found it helpful! i actually created that post when my friend laurel told me she had no idea how to comment on my blog!
Michelle says
I am right there with you on the 9 cups of water! Especially when it’s cold out, I forget how important it is to drink water.
misszippy says
Love the bosu ball! I use it for balance training and I think it really pays off.
I want that breakfast!
Courtney says
I am doing boot camp too! Ah man, can’t wait to try those! LOL
lisa@thedailyrundown says
I want a bosu ball!
I loved your posts on Sanibel Island so much, I rented a condo there in June.
We’ll be going for a week and I will make sure to reference your posts for places to eat!
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance says
I’m doing the bootcamp too! It’s such a neat idea. I’m focusing on water and stretching for my goals (I think!)
Kerry @ Totes My Oats says
Those lunges look really tough! I think I may incorporate them into my workout today! Breakfast looks yummy 🙂
Candice says
I had pretty much the same breakfast! I always feel if I have veggies in the morning I’m more likely to eat them throughout the day to. LOVE egg scrambles!
Krista says
Good luck with your boot camp! It looks like a fun way to shake things up a bit. As soon as my back injury gets better I think I’ll try out something similar!
Cat @ Breakfast to Bed says
fruits and veg I get, I am TERRIBLE about water consumption.

Your goals are exactly what I’m trying to accomplish too! I definitely need to improve on my water & veggie in-take!
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
Girl, TOTALLY agree with you on those Bosu lunges! I was shakin’ like crazy!!
I’m so excited to be doing the program and feel like I finally have some goals to work towards.
Here’s to fellow Bootcamp buddies! 🙂
Michelle (Better with Berries) says
Lunges and squats on the BOSU are so tough! I don’t blame you for barking at Ryan 🙂 I used to do them in classes at my gym a lot in college – I miss them!
P.S. Thanks for the link about reading blogs for newbies! It took me so long to figure out “readers” and I used to go to each blog individually. Even with only 5 blogs or so, it took a while! Now I use Bloglovin’ and, well, I’m loving it 🙂
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
That boot camp sounds like a great idea! Definitely a good way to stay motivated.
Rachel @ The Peach and The Pit says
boot camp sounds fantastic! I also want you to know that you inspired me to order Bethenny’s workout DVD! I love her and it’s about time I tried her workout 🙂
Stacy says
Holy crap, I actually laughed out loud at “I practically barked, “This is SO FREAKIN’ TOUGH!” I completely understand being in that state!! Still tickled about it. Bosu balls are no joke!
Bethany @ Accidental Intentions says
Good luck with boot camp! I’m excited to hear about how it goes for you. I’m not doing it (whaddup super poor penny pinching college senior over here…haha), but I’ve done some of Tina’s workouts before, and man, she knows how to kick your butt! If she does one again when I actually have income, I definitely think I’ll give it a shot.
Molly says
Question about the bootcamp, does it require a lot of gym equipment?? I just saw the bosu ball and wouldn’t want to sign up if I needed a ton of stuff… I have a good amount in our building gym, but I don’t have access to a full-fledged gym…
Meredith @ DareYouTo says
I’m also trying to get at least 5-6 servings of fruits/veggies in daily, but it’s not always easy. Agreed that stuffing them into a breakfast omelet is great way to kick-start the day!
Emily N says
Sounds like you had a good first day of bootcamp. Nice job!
GatorJ says
I love your blog! It inspired me to start my own little fitness/health/lifestyle blog… keep up the great work 🙂
Carol @ Lucky Zucca says
I’m signed up for bootcamp too and I can’t wait for all the new moves! I haven’t done my workout for today yet, but am going to the gym straight after work! 😀
Lindsay @ In Sweetness and In Health says
I’m doing Tina’s bootcamp too!! I just have to wait til Friday to actually start her workouts since I can’t really workout my lower body til I get a suture taken out where I had a mole removed…booo. Guess this weekend I’ll be pushing myself hard :). I think one of my goals is definitely going to be about upping my water intake! For some reason drinking a lot of water has always been a challenge for me. Hope you have a great day Julie!
Raquel @ Toned, Tan, Fit & Techie says
I think you and I both have an egg, veggie and cheese obsession. I love savory breakfasts! Can’t wait to hear how the bootcamp goes for you!
Antonia @ healthinspirations says
So glad you mentioned that the registration deadline was extended. Gave me a chance to register as well. I’m so excited to take part.
Emily @ Glitz Glam Granola says
How cool that she is hosting a virtual bootcamp! Can’t wait to hear more about it as the days/weeks progress! I need to up my water/veggie intake as well and this is a good reminder to do so! And I also had half a whole wheat bagel this morning! (Though mine was topped with peanut butter!)
Ellie@Fit for the Soul says
OoOOO bosu lunges sound fun and heart pumping! Definitely will give it a try…oh man, I’d love to join Tina in her bootcamp! But with wedding coming up, that’s a def. no-go. Hehe, I’m sure there will be more opportunities though?! Tina’s so awesome. 🙂 And I’d love to meet you someday Julie!~
Tara says
I’m doing the bootcamp too!! Now I’m nervous about the Bosu lunges!
Valerie @ FreshMutz says
I’m not doing the bootcamp but cheers to everyone who is. It sounds fab. I notice that I am good with water consumption during the week and work but never on the weekends. I have to remedy that!!!!
Whitney @ Whit Likes Fit says
Love the 5 servings of fruits and veggies. I’ve definitely made that a goal of mine. Have you ever visited the 100 days of real food site? Her whole goal is to get people off processed foods so she created 13 weeks of “mini” pledges you can do. The idea is at the end of 13 weeks you’ll be off processed foods all together. Week 1 is to eat 2 different fruits/veggies per meal. I tried it and it’s tough! http://www.100daysofrealfood.com/100-days-of-mini-pledges/ Instead of trying to do 5 in a day I’ve been trying to make sure I get some each meal which seems to make things a little easier.
Roz @ Fit Blogging for Fun, Family & Profit says
You are inspiring me girl! I just started training with the toughest personal trainer at my gym and he yelled at me for my less than stellar eating this weekend lol! Your recipes keep me excited with eating more veggies, those eggs look so yum!
Sara says
bThanks so much for posting about this Bootcamp! I’m in! Sounds like a great way to re-commit to my health and fitness goals – and lines up nicely with the new rotation that I’m starting today. 😀
