Starting the Day the Iced Coffee Way

May 28, 2012 by Julie 67 Comments

Good morning and Happy Memorial Day!

Ryan and I started our day with a workout at 7:30 a.m.

I chatted with another woman at the gym as I was doing various chest and tricep exercises and we both said that the lack of people at the gym today coupled with the fact that it is a holiday made it hard to feel super motivated. Still, I’m glad I went! It wasn’t a killer workout, but it felt good to start my day on an active note.

Iced Coffee

On our way home from the gym, Ryan got a serious craving for McDonald’s hot cakes and sausage. (He claims no one makes better pancakes than McDonald’s. I think he’s crazy. I’ve even tried to duplicate McDonald’s hotcakes before with no luck. Apparently Ronald McD knows what’s up.)

I wanted to wait to make myself breakfast at home since we were just going through the drive through, so I ordered a small vanilla iced coffee to sip on with my breakfast.

This was my first time trying their iced coffee and I am a fan. My expectations were rather low since I think their hot chocolate is disgusting, but I was pleasantly surprised!

Breakfast

Breakfast was a simple bowl of hot oatmeal with egg whites added in at the last minute for an extra punch of protein.

I topped the oats with cinnamon before eating every last bite.

The weather here is rather dreary today which put a kink in our original plans for the day. (No more horseback riding.)

Since it’s rainy outside, a trip to the movie theatre might be in order.

Have you guys seen any good movies lately? I think that The Five Year Engagement looks really cute and am pulling for that one at the moment.

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Oooh I vote for Five Year Engagement too! Let us know how it is if you go. And I agree – McDonalds hot chocolate is way sub-par. Homemade breakfasts any day for me! 🙂

Happy Memorial Day to you and Ryan!

Ran my first 10k today in 55:14 (could have broke 55 min but people were coming to complete standstills at water stations without moving to the sides 🙁 ).

The boyfriend and I say Men in Black 3 on Sat and it was awesome. Granted I don’t really remember the second one since it’s been so long, but I think this was the best one yet!

    Have a great holiday!

I fully cook my oatmeal in the microwave (banana, 1/3 cup of oatmeal, almond milk for two mins) then I stir them well, add egg whites and micro for one more minute or until the egg whites are cooked. Don’t cook them too long or they will scramble though. Then I add a scoop of PB!

I’ve been hesitant to try McD’s iced coffee, so I’m glad to hear a good review.

My bootcamp was fairly full this morning, but I found the workout subpar, I went to 9am since its a holiday, normally I go to 7pm…the 9am seems more like a social event than a butt kicking workout!
McD’s iced coffee is my favorite, so much better that Starbucks and CHEAPER!

My husband loves McDonald’s hotcakes! And I just love watching him enjoy them (the couple times a year he has them). However, he also likes any kind of pancake I make (even green ones) and would die for Walker Brothers’ Original Pancake House 49ers (he grew up in Wilmette, IL, near the actual “original”) and the cakes are very skinny and fill the plate.
We saw MIB3 last night and the whole theater seemed to enjoy it.

Hey Julie! So do you always do your morning gym workouts before you eat breakfast? Do you eat anything at all before you workout? I am just wondering because my experiences are that I feel like I am weaker without any fuel during morning workouts, but I don’t know if it’s something you just have to get your body used to. Also, this is totally random, but do you know what style your bathing suit is from VS that you wore on your cruise? It’s too cute! Thanks
