During the summer months when it’s hot outside, it’s easier for me to remember to stay hydrated because warmer weather makes me thirstier and serves almost as a daily reminder to sip on a cold, refreshing beverage throughout the day. As the temperatures begin to drop, my desire to drink a lot of cold water decreases significantly, but there are a few key things we can all do to help remind ourselves to drink and stay hydrated all year long.
Below you will find a few tips that can be easily implemented to help keep yourself hydrated every day! (And stay tuned for a hydration-themed giveaway at the end of this post, thanks to Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water!)
- Opt For A Larger Water Bottle
If I have a large water bottle sitting in front of me as I work on the computer, I will often look down to find the water bottle completely drained without realizing I’ve been guzzling it down. Mindless drinking for the win! By opting for a larger water bottle – one that holds 20+ ounces – I find myself drinking more since a larger amount of water is simply sitting in front of me, making staying hydrated a bit easier!
- Refill Your Water Bottle Every Time You Go To The Bathroom
This is a tip I started to follow when I was working at my previous desk job, but now that I work from home, it’s one I still try to remind myself to follow since it’s a great way to remind yourself to always have a full water bottle with you! If you fill up your water bottle every time you use the bathroom, you’ll always have a full water bottle on hand, making staying hydrated that much easier!
- Vary Your Beverage To Prevent Boredom
If you’re anything like me, sipping on water all day long can start to get a bit boring. When I was pregnant, and now that I’m nursing, I cannot seem to drink enough but drinking tons and tons of plain water can feel a little dull. When I feel water boredom setting in, I opt for sparkling water or extract water to spice things up a bit! It’s an easy and delicious way to sneak in extra fluids.
I was recently sent a few bottles of Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water to try and it’s a great option to turn to when you want to hydrate your body with something that tastes great, too! The PACt® cranberry extract water contains PACs (proanthocyanidins), unique, powerful elements found deep inside cranberries that help cleanse and purify your body. The cranberry extract water is made with clean ingredients (the bright red color comes from cranberries alone and it’s sweetened naturally) and the water has only 10 calories per 16 ounce bottle.
My favorite flavor is the Cranberry Mango-Passionfruit and I love all of them mixed with a little bit of sparkling water for a refreshing mocktail any time of the day!
- Use A Straw
Is it just me, or is it a billion times easier to drink water when you do it from a straw (especially if you’re multi-tasking while pushing a baby in a stroller and walking your dog)? It makes sipping on water more fun and I try to drink most of my water from a water bottle or tumbler that has a straw. For some reason I just seem to drink more when I do it from a straw!
- Add Your Own Fun Flavors
According to Ocean Spray’s hydration survey (which you may find and take here), more than 60 percent of Americans are drinking less than eight glasses of water a day and more than half of all Americans don’t feel the need to hydrate when temperatures cool down. Make your water or water-based beverage more fun by adding your own flavors! Throw some fresh orange, grapefruit or cucumber slices into a cold cup of water. Crush mint leaves and stir them into sparkling water. Add frozen grapes to cranberry extract water for a tasty alternative to ice cubes!
Anything to make staying hydrated a little more fun!

I freeze water in Nalgene bottle every night and then fill the rest up every morning before school. I continue to re-fill the bottle throughout the day. The ice usually lasts all day. I am a teacher, and my students always comment on how big the ice is in my bottle and how did it get in there? I do like to keep them guessing, but I am always hydrated:)
I agree with you about the straw! It makes drinking water sooo much easier for me. I also keep track of how much water I drink in my Passion Planner. 🙂
I stay hydrated by drinking a huge glass of water before bed and before evry meal.
I just got a cup with a straw to keep at my desk, I definitely drink more with the straw!
I stay hydrated by drinking so much tea!
I love to have herbal teas over the winter. And ALWAYS seltzer and lemon water!
I LOVE using fresh citrus fruit like lemons and limes. It’s not only easier to drink my water, but the bottle is prettier!
I use cute cups & reusable bottles, and will occasionally flavor the water.
Just always having a water bottle nearby helps to remind me to drink water even when I’m not thirsty. I also recently found that the straw trick works for me. I don’t know what it is about them, but I’ve nearly tripled my (not-so-sufficient) intake!
I love finding cute water bottles that are easy to bring around with me. I also keep track of how many bottles of water I have each day using my fitbit dashboard. I think that having a visual of my water consumption can really be eye opening as to whether or not I’m really dehydrated and need to drink more water. Finding new fun ways to naturally flavor my water is also one way I drink more water. This giveaway is AWESOME!!!!!
I carry my water bottle with me everywhere. I finally found the perfect one for me. It fits snuggly in my car cup holder, snaps shut so it doesn’t spill, has a loop for easy handling/hooking, and I actually prefer an open spout (vs. a straw) so I can drink a lot of water without having to work so hard (vs. sucking through the straw).
I have several tumblers and make sure I always have one with me. I also make my own ice cubes filled with different types of fruit.
I love adding slices of lemons and limes to my water. Also, having a cute water bottle is a plus in my book!
I always drink out of my everyday water bottle. It has a flexible fat straw, which makes it soooo easy to drink plenty of water!
I love Pact water! You’re the first blog I’ve read to do a feature for it.. it’s the best!
I like the idea of refilling your bottle after bathroom breaks! I am going to try to start doing that 🙂
Thanks for the tips! I make sure to add a little flavor and use a big water bottle to drink lots of water all year!
I’m definitely a fan of the straw water bottle. For some reason, it makes me drink water WAY more often. (I guess unscrewing a water bottle lid takes to much time and effort…? haha!)
I stay hydrated by drinking at least 64 oz of water each day.
I keep a large mason jar mug both at work and home to make sure I get my water in every day!
I always put lemon or other flavorings (mint, berries, etc) in my water to make it more flavorful and easier to drink! I always have to remind myself to stay hydrated so I would love to win this giveaway 🙂
True Lime and Stevia make me look forward to staying hydrated. Also cold herbal tea is really great with lots of ice. Big fan of infusing water with other herbs/fruits but I never seem to get around to it…
I have a 32 oz CamelBak Chute right by my computer at work. I also add Nuun All Day to water to make it taste better 🙂
I bring my water bottle with me everywhere and I always add some lemon slices for extra flavor!
I drink a glass of water immediately when I wake up every morning. It sets me off on the right foot everyday.
I do best when I sit a gallon of water on my counter and drink from it all day long. I love the challenge and it also is motivating to see how much I’ve taken in-sure keeps me aware!
Drinking from a straw is exactly what I do as well! 🙂
I always have a water bottle with me no matter what!
I definitely have found that using a straw increases my daily water consumption! I’ve ditched my water bottle and nalgenes for cold cups with straws. I fill it constantly throughout the day and adding crushed ice also gets me to drink more!
I like to add lemon to my water in the warmer months and drink lots of tea in the colder months!
I always drink a glass of water first thing in the morning and before every meal — it helps me stay hydrated AND keeps me feeling a little fuller. Double win!
I put a water bottle with cucumber slices in the fridge at night to take to work in the morning. It always tastes to refreshing!
I take my 20 oz water bottle everywhere I go. I drink at least one while getting ready in the morning . I always fill it up before getting in the car. I find I drink a lot that way!
I follow the straw trick. I swear that I drink significantly more water through a straw than by sipping. I agree with “mindless drinking for the win”! Thanks, Julie!!
I definitely agree that having a larger amount of water in front of you helps you to consume more!
If it is cooler out and having a cold glass of water does not appeal to me, I sometimes opt for a cup or two of hot tea. That way I’m at least getting some extra water, but it’s also flavorful and cozy!
I’m terrible at remembering to drink water, but one thing I try to do when I’m on top of it is pace myself. I figure out how much water I need to drink by my next meal if I want to get enough water for the whole day. It helps me stay on track and remind me to drink throughout the day and not just when I’m thirsty.

I male sure to drink 8oincrs of water before I kesbe the house for work, then through out the day I make sure I drink 2 (32oz) bottles of water before I head home. A glass of two of water with dinner and before bed and I’ve alread hit over 80 ounces for the day
I have my Camelbak filled up with cold water before heading to the gym. Also i always have a tumber of cold green tea to sip on in the afternoons. i probably down 3Litres or water or more each day!
I carry a bottle of water around with me most everywhere I go–and besides the water, I drink juice and tea quite a bit also.
I too am nursing and struggle to drink enough throughout the day. I find that the colder my drink is, the better. As soon as my ice melts I notice that my cup sits there not being drunk. So key for me is to keep the ice coming!
I like to make my own sparkling water using a soda stream – it makes the water more fun to drink!
Add lemon to my water!
I ALWAYS have a bottle or glass of water with me, whether I’m at home, work or in the car, it’s there. Then I can never have an excuse to not be drinking water or be dehydrated.
I bring my refillable water bottle everywhere I go so it serves as a reminder to drink more water! The worst feeling is going to workout when you haven’t had enough water throughout the day so this motivates me to drink more water too!
It’s hard for me to get to a water fountain during the day to refill my tumbler (teacher problems!), so I keep a gallon of water under my desk. I use that to refill my tumbler quickly and easily!
I always have a straw with my drink because it helps protect your teeth too, especially when having carbonated/flavoured acidic drinks, and curly straws seem to make drinking plain water a lot more fun!
I’m with you- drinking with a straw makes me drink so much more water!
I find that using a straw helps me drink more too! I also like flavor infused waters. Cucumber, mint, lemon, lime, etc! 🙂 I would love a Bubba mug though!
I like to add fruit to my water.
A fun bottle helps, as does a straw and switching it up with sparkling water!
