During the summer months when it’s hot outside, it’s easier for me to remember to stay hydrated because warmer weather makes me thirstier and serves almost as a daily reminder to sip on a cold, refreshing beverage throughout the day. As the temperatures begin to drop, my desire to drink a lot of cold water decreases significantly, but there are a few key things we can all do to help remind ourselves to drink and stay hydrated all year long.
Below you will find a few tips that can be easily implemented to help keep yourself hydrated every day! (And stay tuned for a hydration-themed giveaway at the end of this post, thanks to Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water!)
- Opt For A Larger Water Bottle
If I have a large water bottle sitting in front of me as I work on the computer, I will often look down to find the water bottle completely drained without realizing I’ve been guzzling it down. Mindless drinking for the win! By opting for a larger water bottle – one that holds 20+ ounces – I find myself drinking more since a larger amount of water is simply sitting in front of me, making staying hydrated a bit easier!
- Refill Your Water Bottle Every Time You Go To The Bathroom
This is a tip I started to follow when I was working at my previous desk job, but now that I work from home, it’s one I still try to remind myself to follow since it’s a great way to remind yourself to always have a full water bottle with you! If you fill up your water bottle every time you use the bathroom, you’ll always have a full water bottle on hand, making staying hydrated that much easier!
- Vary Your Beverage To Prevent Boredom
If you’re anything like me, sipping on water all day long can start to get a bit boring. When I was pregnant, and now that I’m nursing, I cannot seem to drink enough but drinking tons and tons of plain water can feel a little dull. When I feel water boredom setting in, I opt for sparkling water or extract water to spice things up a bit! It’s an easy and delicious way to sneak in extra fluids.
I was recently sent a few bottles of Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water to try and it’s a great option to turn to when you want to hydrate your body with something that tastes great, too! The PACt® cranberry extract water contains PACs (proanthocyanidins), unique, powerful elements found deep inside cranberries that help cleanse and purify your body. The cranberry extract water is made with clean ingredients (the bright red color comes from cranberries alone and it’s sweetened naturally) and the water has only 10 calories per 16 ounce bottle.
My favorite flavor is the Cranberry Mango-Passionfruit and I love all of them mixed with a little bit of sparkling water for a refreshing mocktail any time of the day!
- Use A Straw
Is it just me, or is it a billion times easier to drink water when you do it from a straw (especially if you’re multi-tasking while pushing a baby in a stroller and walking your dog)? It makes sipping on water more fun and I try to drink most of my water from a water bottle or tumbler that has a straw. For some reason I just seem to drink more when I do it from a straw!
- Add Your Own Fun Flavors
According to Ocean Spray’s hydration survey (which you may find and take here), more than 60 percent of Americans are drinking less than eight glasses of water a day and more than half of all Americans don’t feel the need to hydrate when temperatures cool down. Make your water or water-based beverage more fun by adding your own flavors! Throw some fresh orange, grapefruit or cucumber slices into a cold cup of water. Crush mint leaves and stir them into sparkling water. Add frozen grapes to cranberry extract water for a tasty alternative to ice cubes!
Anything to make staying hydrated a little more fun!

I try to fill my water bottle first thing in the morning at work, before I even sit down. I like to have ice in the water, even when it is very cold out, so having a blanket and a heater at my desk helps me drink too!
Also – i try to be sure to get my 64 oz in at work. Then any additional water I drink at home is like a bonus!
Elissa Vaughn says
La croix has become my go to for when I’m feeling dehydrated – especially in the Florida heat! Straws are also a major help!
Audra says
Great tips! I stay hydrated by taking my water bottle with me everywhere I go (and it has a straw which is a MUST). The bubba keg is something I have been wanting to buy!
Meghan says
I set time limits on when I have to have a certain amount of water finished by. I force myself to drink two full bottles (refillable) before lunch and 2 more before I leave work… even if I have to stand there and chug while my lunch is heating up! It really helps keep me accountable!
Della G. says
I have a cup of warm lemon water every morning & plain water throughout the day!
Morgan says
When it gets colder out, I literally stop wanting water! I have started having light hot chocolate with water after lunch to get in some extra water, and warm up! I am a teacher, and need to drink water from talking all day! I am thinking that a colorful water bottle or flavor would help a lot! 🙂
Melissa says
I try to keep water with me. In the colder months it gets harder to drink water but I let it get to room temperature to help.
Janelle says
I carry a water bottle with me everywhere, and even have a separate one permanently in the nursery so that I always have water on hand when I am breastfeeding.
Megan says
The straw “trick” is definitely what helps me drink a lot of water. Also, lots of ice!
Mallory S. says
I have a 32 oz water bottle with a straw that I keep filled all the time. I take it everywhere with me, even keep it on my nightstand overnight. I always make sure to load it with ice because I will be more likely to drink ice cold water than room temp.
Lauren @ Oh Hey, I Like That! says
I recently got a Soda Stream for my birthday, and even though the water is carbonated, it’s still keeping me hydrated! I looooove Camelbak bottles though, so I’d love to win one 😉
Yolanda McLean says
I always keep a water bottle with me. My favorite has a counter on top of the lid – the bottle hold over 34oz and I most always drink four bottles a day. I usually strive to have one bottle done on my morning commute – first stop, the bathroom! The weekends and being at home are definitely harder.
Jenn @ Mark My Miles! says
Great giveaway. With a toddler and an infant myself, I find it difficult to stay hydrated and know that carrying a water bottle with me is key to remembering to fill it up.
Erika @ Barbells & Bookends says
I keep a tumbler on my desk at work and I have several water bottles at home. I really love infused water so I try to add fruit whenever I drink water. I also use an app so that I can keep track of how many ounces I have consumed. Drinking a gallon a day is difficult for me since I’m not always thirstly.
Laura says
I try to eat a lot of water-rich foods (fruits and veggies!) so I don’t have to rely solely on drinking water. I also LIVE on LaCroix at my office 🙂
Megan V. says
I have a big tumbler that I keep with me at all times during the work day so I am constantly drinking water.
Chelsea says
I keep a water bottle right by me at my desk and make sure I drink a full one before and after lunch. And I keep a full glass of water on my nightstand so it’s ready for me first thing in the morning!
Erin says
I carry my water bottle everywhere! I’m nursing also and always thirsty.
Ashley S. says
I have a water bottle on me at all times. I am really looking forward to trying the Ocean Spray Pact drinks because I find myself getting bored with just plain old water all the time.
Rhonda H says
I have a 20oz cup with me that I try to refill twice during the day, or I fill it up once and drink a sparkling water to change it up. I’ve found that the sparkling water (either plain or flavored) really helps me get past the boringness of plain old water.
Anne says
Unlike a majority of the population I have the opposite problem of staying hydrated because I am thirsty.all.the.time. My husband thinks I drink too much water but I can never get enough! I love water packed fruits and veggies like cucumbers and watermelon and seltzer is my best friend.
Joni says
I like to switch it up by adding fruit to my water, so i don’t get bored with just the plain water! It really helps!
Kim says
Having a cute water bottle or cup to use and readily available for sipping motivates me to drink more water and stay hydrated.
Brianna says
I found that our Soda Stream a lot. I’m not a plain water fan, but being able to make sparkling water all the time and add in things like lemons or limes makes it a lot more appealing and I tend to drink more water over the course of the day.
Rachel @ Never Enough Novels says
I’ve recently started adding seltzer water throughout the day since it has a hint of flavor. Keeps things more exciting!
tricia says
i always start my day by drinking a full glass of water and keep a bottle in my bag so i have it throughout the day. my husband calls me a camel!
Michele at Everyday Snapshot says
I definitely like to add flavor to water to mix it up a bit, and I drink way more and when I do. As the chilly weather sets in, I love to drink hot green tea too. Sometimes a stick of cinnamon. What an awesome giveaway this is too.
Julie says
I’m the opposite about the straw- I like chugging water straight from the bottle or cup. I try to do the same thing with getting a refill every time I use the restroom or get up from my desk.
Fi says
I do the same thing – place a straw in my open bottle of water! It helps me drink a lot more than I usually would.
Lindsay says
I keep my water bottle on my desk at work and fill it at least five times throughout the day.
Jackie says
I ALWAYS have my camelbak near by!
kristin says
I carry my water bottle with me everywhere! And I also refill it every time I go to the bathroom.
Kristin says
I actually set reminders on my outlook at work. This way I know if reminder goes off and I’m not finished yet with that bottle that I need to drink up and refill again.
Laura Peynado says
I also refill my bottle with water every chance I get and try to drink at least 4 whole 16-ounce bottles each day! <3
Kaitlyn says
My friends poke fun at me for constantly carrying around my water bottle. I have a 24-oz glass mason jar, and I fill it up from anywhere to 4-8 times a day. Keeping it with me at all times helps me stay hydrated. I love ice water, but sometimes water bores me too. That’s when I add a squeeze of lemon or treat myself to some iced tea!
Laurie O says
I have a huge 32 oz water bottle at my desk (with a straw) and refill it often!
Kimberly @ Healthy Strides says
I use an app to track how much water I’m drinking. I also try to have a huge jar (32 ounces of water) before I leave the house for the day.
Annie says
I keep a “note” on my phone to remind myself of how much water I drink a day!
Courtney says
I’m a big fan of refilling my water bottle every time I get up to use the bathroom when I’m studying!
Kat says
I am a huge water drinker! We had a contest at work and that was a great way to make sure we are all hydrated. Knowing hydration is the best beauty tip for skin and hair health is super helpful to me since I’m way low maintenance when it comes to beauty (I also have a baby so mama got no time for beauty!).
Tiffany V says
I always carry my water bottle with me, wherever I go! I have a long commute to work, so having one with a straw really helps so that I can still hydrate on my way.
Megan Lindsay says
I try and always add lemons to my water! That way, even if the water isn’t the best quality it helps cover it up and make it taste better! Which in turn helps me drink more! I definitely struggle with drinking as much when the temperature drops!
Shelley P says
I always drink from 1.5 L water bottles. I find what you say about a larger container to be totally true! I drink between 1 and 2 of the big water bottles. If I had a smaller water bottle, I’m sure I wouldn’t refill it and drink as much.
Shawna says
Back when I worked a desk job, my co-worker and I would take turns filling up our water bottles. She usually would drink faster than me, so when she would hand me her empty cup and I still had half left it was a good reminder to guzzle it down and catch up!
Abbey says
I find that drinking tea in the morning prior to drinking water helps me stay hydrated. Especially in the colder months it warms me up and I usually drink it pretty quick.
Erin says
In addition to always keeping a water bottle around, I also make it a to-do to check off before I move on to something else. For example, I’ll say I’m going to go get a load of laundry started as soon as I finish a big glass of water.
Rachel says
It is hard for me to drink water right now because I am pregnant and water taste terrible. So what I do is keep a huge water bottle on my desk and I add a splash of lemonade every time I fill it up. It makes drinking water tolerable, but I am getting tired of lemonade so I am going to need to switch it up soon!
Allie says
I love putting lemons and limes with mint in my water. That little bit of flavor helps alot! A straw helps me too!
Liz says
I start everyday with a big glass of water right when I wake up, before coffee or anything, and I always have a bottle with me no matter what.
Savannah G says
I always try to down 10 oz of water before every meal. Not only does it help get (at minimum) 30 ounces in me, but it also helps prevent me from over-eating! Score!
