During the summer months when it’s hot outside, it’s easier for me to remember to stay hydrated because warmer weather makes me thirstier and serves almost as a daily reminder to sip on a cold, refreshing beverage throughout the day. As the temperatures begin to drop, my desire to drink a lot of cold water decreases significantly, but there are a few key things we can all do to help remind ourselves to drink and stay hydrated all year long.
Below you will find a few tips that can be easily implemented to help keep yourself hydrated every day! (And stay tuned for a hydration-themed giveaway at the end of this post, thanks to Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water!)
- Opt For A Larger Water Bottle
If I have a large water bottle sitting in front of me as I work on the computer, I will often look down to find the water bottle completely drained without realizing I’ve been guzzling it down. Mindless drinking for the win! By opting for a larger water bottle – one that holds 20+ ounces – I find myself drinking more since a larger amount of water is simply sitting in front of me, making staying hydrated a bit easier!
- Refill Your Water Bottle Every Time You Go To The Bathroom
This is a tip I started to follow when I was working at my previous desk job, but now that I work from home, it’s one I still try to remind myself to follow since it’s a great way to remind yourself to always have a full water bottle with you! If you fill up your water bottle every time you use the bathroom, you’ll always have a full water bottle on hand, making staying hydrated that much easier!
- Vary Your Beverage To Prevent Boredom
If you’re anything like me, sipping on water all day long can start to get a bit boring. When I was pregnant, and now that I’m nursing, I cannot seem to drink enough but drinking tons and tons of plain water can feel a little dull. When I feel water boredom setting in, I opt for sparkling water or extract water to spice things up a bit! It’s an easy and delicious way to sneak in extra fluids.
I was recently sent a few bottles of Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water to try and it’s a great option to turn to when you want to hydrate your body with something that tastes great, too! The PACt® cranberry extract water contains PACs (proanthocyanidins), unique, powerful elements found deep inside cranberries that help cleanse and purify your body. The cranberry extract water is made with clean ingredients (the bright red color comes from cranberries alone and it’s sweetened naturally) and the water has only 10 calories per 16 ounce bottle.
My favorite flavor is the Cranberry Mango-Passionfruit and I love all of them mixed with a little bit of sparkling water for a refreshing mocktail any time of the day!
- Use A Straw
Is it just me, or is it a billion times easier to drink water when you do it from a straw (especially if you’re multi-tasking while pushing a baby in a stroller and walking your dog)? It makes sipping on water more fun and I try to drink most of my water from a water bottle or tumbler that has a straw. For some reason I just seem to drink more when I do it from a straw!
- Add Your Own Fun Flavors
According to Ocean Spray’s hydration survey (which you may find and take here), more than 60 percent of Americans are drinking less than eight glasses of water a day and more than half of all Americans don’t feel the need to hydrate when temperatures cool down. Make your water or water-based beverage more fun by adding your own flavors! Throw some fresh orange, grapefruit or cucumber slices into a cold cup of water. Crush mint leaves and stir them into sparkling water. Add frozen grapes to cranberry extract water for a tasty alternative to ice cubes!
Anything to make staying hydrated a little more fun!

I always have my water bottle with me!

Oh what a great giveaway! I always keep my fridge packed with bottles of plain sparkling water from Trader Joes. It’s an easy way to trick myself into drinking more water when its carbonated like a soda! For a treat, I’ll buy the lemon sparkling water occasionally. If I stock up on it, I will reach for it instead of a soda.
Claire Locke says
I love infusing my water with lemon, mint, and cucumber! I carry my 40oz Hydroflask with me all the time to stay hydrated. I love it because it keeps ice all day long!
Kelly says
It sounds silly (or at least wasteful) but I keep bottled water in the house. For some reason I’ll drink water out of a bottle, but hate it in a cup or glass. My husband keeps sparkling water for the same reason – to prevent boredom of water 🙂
Silvia Fugate says
I try to keep a bottle of water near me at all times because if I do not I tend to go for things other then water.
Kerri Keefe says
I eat lots of watermelon! I can’t get enough. When I can’t eat it on the go, I whip up a watermelon peach smoothie and take it with me!

I have water bottles pretty everywhere I go! In the car, in my room, at my desk.

I have a fantastic water bottle that holds a 1/2 gallon of water and keeps it cold for a long time. I take it with me everywhere I go too. Lately I have been using cucumbers and mint or lemons to add flavor.
Alissa says
I bring my tervis tumbler every where I go. Even if it’s a short trip. I find myself drinking more throughout the day if I always have water with me.

It’s easy at work with a water cooler. I drink tea all day long and carry my travel mug with me everywhere. But my problem is staying hydrated on the weekends when I’m running around doing a million things at once.
Tierney says
I tend to drink my water more if there is ice in it. I use a Hydro Flask which keeps ice frozen for 24 hours so I just keep refilling when the water is gone!

Sarah says
I stay hydrated by having a cup/bottle/thermos with me all the time.

I make sure to take my water bottle everywhere with me!
Danielle H says
Marking my water bottle with time limits so that way I have a goal of drinking a certain amount is always helpful!
Elizabeth R. says
I love this giveaway and all the tips in the post! I used to be a diet coke addict. It was bad! I still drink 1-2 (not good, but a vast improvement) and I cut back by simply switching what I stocked in my office fridge to La Croix lemon soda water. When I’m thirsty, I have no choice but to grab for a soda water now 🙂
Lindsay says
I also do the bathroom trick at work! It’s a good cycle because the more you drink, the more you have to pee and the more often you pee, the more often you fill up your water.
Stacie says
I definitely carry my water bottle to the bathroom with me at work, and stop by the kitchen to refill. It perpetuates a cycle of pee-hydrate-pee!! :-p
Jessica says
I slice lemons for lemon water pretty much every day in the summer. Other than that, I keep a glass on my night stand so as soon as I wake up I have a glass of water. I challenge myself on the Waterlogged app to get between 80-100oz of water everyday.
Haley says
There is basically ALWAYS water with me. A big 32oz bottle on my desk at work & when I’m out and about I always have a tervis or something with me.

I make it a goal to drink about 1 glass of water/hour of work! That way I already have my 8 glasses in before I get home, and am super hydrated before my post-work workouts!

I make myself drink at least one glass of water with every meal before I can drink anything else (soda/tea/beer/wine/ect). Plus I always have a reusable water bottle with me no matter what.

I carry a water bottle with me every where. I also love to add lemon or lime to jazz up the water!

I’m really good about drinking water all day, but to do this I always bring a refillable water bottle to work and I fill it as soon as it’s empty. I end up refilling about 4-5 times throughout my work day.

I keep a large water bottle at my desk at work so I consume tons there and when I’m at home, I add flavor with lemon or cucumbers. Yuuum!

I work at a desk job but make it a point to get up every hour to do a lap around the office and fill my water bottle at the bubbler furthest from my desk. That way I can get some extra steps in too.
Amanda@Numbered Pages says
I always keep water with me wherever I go. When I get thirsty, I have no excuse. It’s a refillable aladdin bottle that doesn’t allow for water to spill out in my bag, so it’s super reliable!
Krista says
I take my water bottle (aka security blanket) with me everywhere! I actually feel lost without it. I also prefer to sip herbal tea or hot water with lemon in the cooler months to both warm up and stay hydrated!

This has been on the top of my mind while I trained for & while I’m recovering from the Chicago Marathon! I LOVE adding flavor to water, and will often sip “fizzy water” or carbonated water to help vary things a bit as well.
