During the summer months when it’s hot outside, it’s easier for me to remember to stay hydrated because warmer weather makes me thirstier and serves almost as a daily reminder to sip on a cold, refreshing beverage throughout the day. As the temperatures begin to drop, my desire to drink a lot of cold water decreases significantly, but there are a few key things we can all do to help remind ourselves to drink and stay hydrated all year long.
Below you will find a few tips that can be easily implemented to help keep yourself hydrated every day! (And stay tuned for a hydration-themed giveaway at the end of this post, thanks to Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water!)
- Opt For A Larger Water Bottle
If I have a large water bottle sitting in front of me as I work on the computer, I will often look down to find the water bottle completely drained without realizing I’ve been guzzling it down. Mindless drinking for the win! By opting for a larger water bottle – one that holds 20+ ounces – I find myself drinking more since a larger amount of water is simply sitting in front of me, making staying hydrated a bit easier!
- Refill Your Water Bottle Every Time You Go To The Bathroom
This is a tip I started to follow when I was working at my previous desk job, but now that I work from home, it’s one I still try to remind myself to follow since it’s a great way to remind yourself to always have a full water bottle with you! If you fill up your water bottle every time you use the bathroom, you’ll always have a full water bottle on hand, making staying hydrated that much easier!
- Vary Your Beverage To Prevent Boredom
If you’re anything like me, sipping on water all day long can start to get a bit boring. When I was pregnant, and now that I’m nursing, I cannot seem to drink enough but drinking tons and tons of plain water can feel a little dull. When I feel water boredom setting in, I opt for sparkling water or extract water to spice things up a bit! It’s an easy and delicious way to sneak in extra fluids.
I was recently sent a few bottles of Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water to try and it’s a great option to turn to when you want to hydrate your body with something that tastes great, too! The PACt® cranberry extract water contains PACs (proanthocyanidins), unique, powerful elements found deep inside cranberries that help cleanse and purify your body. The cranberry extract water is made with clean ingredients (the bright red color comes from cranberries alone and it’s sweetened naturally) and the water has only 10 calories per 16 ounce bottle.
My favorite flavor is the Cranberry Mango-Passionfruit and I love all of them mixed with a little bit of sparkling water for a refreshing mocktail any time of the day!
- Use A Straw
Is it just me, or is it a billion times easier to drink water when you do it from a straw (especially if you’re multi-tasking while pushing a baby in a stroller and walking your dog)? It makes sipping on water more fun and I try to drink most of my water from a water bottle or tumbler that has a straw. For some reason I just seem to drink more when I do it from a straw!
- Add Your Own Fun Flavors
According to Ocean Spray’s hydration survey (which you may find and take here), more than 60 percent of Americans are drinking less than eight glasses of water a day and more than half of all Americans don’t feel the need to hydrate when temperatures cool down. Make your water or water-based beverage more fun by adding your own flavors! Throw some fresh orange, grapefruit or cucumber slices into a cold cup of water. Crush mint leaves and stir them into sparkling water. Add frozen grapes to cranberry extract water for a tasty alternative to ice cubes!
Anything to make staying hydrated a little more fun!

I have a few tricks. I love planning and I’m motivated by writing down, checking off to do’s and feeling good that I accomplished something.
So here are my tricks:
-Draw an empty water drop in your planner and color it in for every glass of water you drink
-Set a goal for how much you want to drink, and set an alert on your phone every hour to make sure you’re drinking up.
-Get cute water bottles and se what makes you want to drink more (i.e.: built in straw, larger bottle, bottle that you can see intake, and writing on the bottle with a timeline)
-For those going to a desk job (or anything really) Filling up in the morning with the amount of water you’re supposed to drink through the whole day rather than refilling one bottle over and over. This really provides a visual on how much you’re drinking.
Hope this helps anyone who chooses to read it!

I’m a graduate student, and I always bring a big, 24 oz. cup (bonus points if it is pretty with a straw!) with mint leaves. I make it a goal to finish the cup before our break halfway through class, then refill it to finish again before the end class. After a day full of being in school, I end up being extremely hydrated!
Emily says
I always try to have a water bottle on me, especially when I’m working – the bigger the better. I take it as a challenge to fill it up as often as I can. I also carry a bottle when traveling, especially now that a lot of airports have filtered water stations 🙂
Courtney Cook says
I find that if I have more than 1 cup of coffee in the morning I hardly drink any water because I spend my morning sipping on the coffee. If I limit myself to one cup, I’ll drink much more water!

Anastasia says
I actually keep track of how much water I need to drink each day and that makes it easier. I know I have to drink 62 oz per day for my body type so it helps me to keep refilling my water bottle. Fruit infused water always helps too! I’ll cut up some lemons, strawberries, cucumbers, etc. the night before and put them in my water bottle with water so it’s ready for me to go in the morning.
Alli says
