During the summer months when it’s hot outside, it’s easier for me to remember to stay hydrated because warmer weather makes me thirstier and serves almost as a daily reminder to sip on a cold, refreshing beverage throughout the day. As the temperatures begin to drop, my desire to drink a lot of cold water decreases significantly, but there are a few key things we can all do to help remind ourselves to drink and stay hydrated all year long.
Below you will find a few tips that can be easily implemented to help keep yourself hydrated every day! (And stay tuned for a hydration-themed giveaway at the end of this post, thanks to Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water!)
- Opt For A Larger Water Bottle
If I have a large water bottle sitting in front of me as I work on the computer, I will often look down to find the water bottle completely drained without realizing I’ve been guzzling it down. Mindless drinking for the win! By opting for a larger water bottle – one that holds 20+ ounces – I find myself drinking more since a larger amount of water is simply sitting in front of me, making staying hydrated a bit easier!
- Refill Your Water Bottle Every Time You Go To The Bathroom
This is a tip I started to follow when I was working at my previous desk job, but now that I work from home, it’s one I still try to remind myself to follow since it’s a great way to remind yourself to always have a full water bottle with you! If you fill up your water bottle every time you use the bathroom, you’ll always have a full water bottle on hand, making staying hydrated that much easier!
- Vary Your Beverage To Prevent Boredom
If you’re anything like me, sipping on water all day long can start to get a bit boring. When I was pregnant, and now that I’m nursing, I cannot seem to drink enough but drinking tons and tons of plain water can feel a little dull. When I feel water boredom setting in, I opt for sparkling water or extract water to spice things up a bit! It’s an easy and delicious way to sneak in extra fluids.
I was recently sent a few bottles of Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water to try and it’s a great option to turn to when you want to hydrate your body with something that tastes great, too! The PACt® cranberry extract water contains PACs (proanthocyanidins), unique, powerful elements found deep inside cranberries that help cleanse and purify your body. The cranberry extract water is made with clean ingredients (the bright red color comes from cranberries alone and it’s sweetened naturally) and the water has only 10 calories per 16 ounce bottle.
My favorite flavor is the Cranberry Mango-Passionfruit and I love all of them mixed with a little bit of sparkling water for a refreshing mocktail any time of the day!
- Use A Straw
Is it just me, or is it a billion times easier to drink water when you do it from a straw (especially if you’re multi-tasking while pushing a baby in a stroller and walking your dog)? It makes sipping on water more fun and I try to drink most of my water from a water bottle or tumbler that has a straw. For some reason I just seem to drink more when I do it from a straw!
- Add Your Own Fun Flavors
According to Ocean Spray’s hydration survey (which you may find and take here), more than 60 percent of Americans are drinking less than eight glasses of water a day and more than half of all Americans don’t feel the need to hydrate when temperatures cool down. Make your water or water-based beverage more fun by adding your own flavors! Throw some fresh orange, grapefruit or cucumber slices into a cold cup of water. Crush mint leaves and stir them into sparkling water. Add frozen grapes to cranberry extract water for a tasty alternative to ice cubes!
Anything to make staying hydrated a little more fun!

In summer it is so much easier to drink plenty of water! Year-round I drink two cups right when I wake up to start the day off right. Once scarf weather hits I incorporate lots of herbal tea-both to stay warm and keep hydrated.
Hayley says
I always keep a water bottle with me no matter where I’m going, and I only buy purses big enough to hold my water bottle.
Melissa says
I have a big cup with a straw at work too!
Abigail says
I try to make sure I drink a large glass of water every hour. If I notice an hour has gone by and I haven’t managed, that means chugging what’s in front of me and going for a refill!
Kerry says
I have a big water bottle that I carry around with me everyday and when I’m home I aways have a straw in my glass. It really does make drinking water easier!
Abby says
In order for me to stay hydrated. I always keep my water right on my desk, staring me right in the face so I have to drink from it.
Karin says
It may sound crazy, but I drink room temperature water because I seem to be able to hydrate better that way. I’m always looking for more tips though, because I agree – drinking plain water can be hard!
Susan C says
I track my water intake on my iPhone via the app, Waterlogged. It makes it so easy to achieve my daily goal plus incremental goals throughout the day. It’s really a good “teaching tool” when you are tying to develop good habits.
Erin says
leaving a big water bottle on my desk!
Kelsey says
Fun water bottles always encourage me to drink more! Especially if they have a straw!
Loreen Gray says
I have a large cup that sits in the counter. I chug it and refill several times a day. If I just sip I never get as much as I should.
Kimberly @ Run with the Roushes says
I have to use a straw or I will not drink my water. If I catch myself slacking, I will literally write out the time in 5 minute increments for the entire (work) day and cross them off as I take drinks. It’s helps me drink throughout the day and stay hydrated.
Bailey says
I have water with me at all times!
Stephanie says
I carry my Klean Kanteen everywhere with me. Nursing thirst is REAL.
Kim@ FITsique says
I have to bring a water bottle and make the effort to get it out of my bag and in front of me. As long as I do that its a piece of cake. If I forget my water bottle or forget to get it out of my bag I literally drink no water all day.
Mandi H says
I think my problem with not drinking enough water is not keeping a big enough bottle/jug at my desk! I need a bubba keg for sure!
Neiddy says
We always carry bottled water with us and at home we drink lots of water, powerade and teas. Thanks for the chance to win!
Alex says
I am the worst about keeping hydrated, I tend to get caught up in work and forget to drink water. I like to use the buddy system at work – whenever my coworker needs water, she drags me along and helps me keep hydrated!
Alice says
I keep a water bottle by my bed and make it a rule that I have to finish the whole bottle before I get up in the morning. If I can finish a cup before I even get out of bed in the morning, I am already off to a good start for daily hydration!
German Lopez says
I dont really keep very hydrated buy my wife has so many lotions its crazy!! Bathroom, bedroom, purse, car, kitchen. Shes always putting on lotion haha

I carry a water bottle with me everywhere I go so I never have an excuse not to stay hydrated. I also add tea to my morning routine to mix it up a little.
Julie says
I keep water with me at all times.
Thea says
I keep water bottles everywhere, at LEAST 24oz ones. One at my desk, one in my car, one at home. And they MUST have a straw!
Shannon says
I have a Nalgene bottle that I drink from during the day, but I recently discovered that using a straw helps me to drink a lot more–and I spill a lot less on myself!
Danielle says
I add lemon or cucumber to make my water a little more flavorful!
Lucy says
Always carry water with you
Jess says
I put rubber bands on my water bottle and take them off as I finish each one. That way I can see how many more I need to get in to hit my goal each day. Helps keep me accountable.
Erin says
I always bring a large 24 ounce water bottle with me to work and bring it into every meeting, so I always have the opportunity to hydrate!
Laura K. says
I set a timer to remind me to refill my water bottle every hour.
Hannah says
I drink flavored sparkling water on ice.
Lesley says
I take a quick break every hour at work & fill up my water. It also makes me move around during the day instead of sitting for 8 hours straight!
Leah T says
I have a huge water bottle at my desk – it’s 83oz so as long as I get through it once I’ve hit my daily goal! I also need a straw, because I just can’t seem to drink enough without one
Caitlin Tarasi says
I love Tervis Tumblers! I always have one nearby with a straw:)
Candie Travels says
A big water container is key!! I definitely drink more with a big Tervis Tumbler or bottle and as an added bonus, have to refill it only a few times!
Lisa says
I have a water bottle at work, home and always pack water in the car. I find if I have a straw and ice in my water I drink more!
Melissa says
I carry around a water bottle and fill it with fruit infused water!
Kristin says
I have a rule that I fill my Nalgene water bottle up before I leave my house in the morning and finish it on my commute (I have a 20 minute drive) and then I do the same thing before I leave my office and head home. Just drinking two bottles’ worth of water gets me to over half of what I should be drinking every day. And I have a super cute Tervis tumbler I keep on my desk to drink throughout my work day.
Jamie Mo. says
I make sure to always carry a water bottle with me!
Julie says
I always have lemons stocked so I can slice them up to add to my water bottle!
Alayna says
I drink tons of herbal tea in the winter in an xxl tim hortons mug
Nikki says
I, too, struggle with staying hydrated once it gets cold. Might sound weird, but I heat my water a little before filling my tumbler. When there’s a chill in the air, I like to take the chill out of the water and, for me, it’s way easier to drink so I drink more!
jaquelyn says
I think breastfeeding makes you extra thirsty bc ever since I’ve always carried a water bottle of some sort. The camelback was my go-to favorite for a long time which is only comparable to tervis tumblers from what I’ve tried! I would love to try some infused water to mix things up – plain water all day can definitely get boring!!
Katie says
I take a glass of water to bed and drink before I get in and right when I get up.
Jeanna says
I try to make sure and fill up my Nalgene bottle at least twice a day and drink both.
Kristen says
I have an ENORMOUS thermal mug (56 oz.) that I fill with decaf unsweetened iced tea every morning and drink all day while I”m teaching classes. I try to refill it and drain it again after school/in the evening.
Randyll says
I use a big Starbucks cup with a straw all day!
Jessica says
I always keep a water bottle nearby whether I’m at work or home!
Cassie G. says
I do that tip above – fill your water bottle up everytime you go to the bathroom! I keep my water bottle right beside my keyboard at work and I make sure to have at least two full bottles before lunch – continuing throughout the day and then make sure that’s all I drink after lunch as well. I love adding a lemon to my water when I get bored with it.
Kristen says
Gotta throw in seltzer water when things get boring! Also, water down sugary drinks (think Gatorade) with half water, half drink to make them go further, stay hydrated, and knock out some of that sugar.
Kate F says
I have a water bottle with the ounces listed on the bottle. I make sure to drink 3 or 4 full bottles per day to ensure I’m staying hydrated.
