I surprised myself and actually went out to complete the three mile run I had on my half marathon training plan around 9 a.m.
I worked from 7:15 a.m. – 9 a.m. and then took a quick 30 minute break to run three miles with Sadie.
My 9 a.m. run made me very much appreciate my flexible work schedule (and the fact that I don’t have to “get pretty” to go to work). I don’t really take advantage of working from home too often. My butt is usually glued to my chair in front of my computer for most of the day as I churn out freelance projects and work on behind-the-scenes blog stuff so it felt good to exercise my freedom a bit today.
Sadie enjoyed getting out for a run this morning too, but when we arrived back home she was in crazy mode.
She was not a fan of me heading back into my office to work some more and brought me pretty much every toy out of her toy basket.
Eventually her persistence paid off and I got up to tackle a small project and simultaneously throw her toys around the house for her to fetch.
The project I had in mind for today was inspired by Pinterest. (Where else?)
A couple of weeks ago I “pinned” a picture of purses that were stored in a closet on shower curtain rings and finally got around to storing all of my bags in the guest room closet (the “blue room”).
Pretty nifty, huh?
For some reason this project made me feel crafty even though absolutely no crafts were involved. Probably because I managed to replicate something on Pinterest without totally butchering it. Score!
Lunch
Today’s lunch was a jelly, Swiss cheese and Granny Smith apple sandwich served on an English muffin.
The English muffin I used was a Nature’s Own English muffin and it was fantastic!
I bought a pack of ‘em at the grocery store this weekend figuring I should try a new brand of English muffins and they were so, so doughy and much fluffier than usual English muffins. More bang for my English muffin buck!
Sides for today included the other half of the apple that didn’t go on my sandwich and tomatoes dipped in hummus… lots and lots of hummus.

Thanks for posting about my raffle Julie!
By the way you are a genius to use the shower rings! My purses are in a giant pile in the corner of my closet. Totally going to do this!

I love that purse idea! Mine are all over my closet in any available space!
Kaella says
That’s such a GREAT idea!! ALL of my purses (I have an addiction problem seriously) are piled on top of my closet, in boxes, on our coat rack..it’s out of control! Thank you pinterest 😀
Hope says
That is such a great idea to store purses!! I am totally going to do that! It would definitely make my closet a lot more organized and considering that I just bought new shower curtain hooks, I have the old plastic ones to use. Thanks, Julie! 🙂
Sandwich looks great by the way!
Andrea @ Andrea out loud! says
Oh my gosh!! I have to do that. currently I have 20 purses on like 3 hangers all overlapped and piled and in a huge mess – they are hanging but not in a very organized manner. Im glad you shared this!
Becky @ Fit Chick on the Fly says
Jelly, apple, and cheese on an english muffin? ? Very interesting combo Julie!

What a great idea for storing purses – it would work well with scarves, too! Note to self – add shower curtain rings to shopping list!
peanutbutterfingers says
oh awesome idea about the scarves!
Nicole @ PancakesandPilates says
I think the blue background (and white shelving unit) creates an awesome canvas for all your colorful purses. I love the yellow one btw 🙂

I have the SAME issue with all my bags. I eventually just put them in a box and stored them that way because they ended up taking up far too much room everywhere else!
Casey @ Pocket Full of Sunshine says
Such a cute idea! I now have plans to do that immediately when we move into a house with more closet space next month. 🙂
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I LOVE gobs and gobs of hummus. Smart woman 🙂
I too love working from home, it is so flexible, and amazing to fit in everything on MY schedule! Wheeee
Erin says
GENIUS! I’m totally doing that with my purses =)

Love the Idea!!!! Another idea that has worked well for me (with both purses and scarves) is hat hangers that are meant for the back of closet doors—its a good solution for the top used purses/scarves that you want to be easy accessible.
Hillary says
I haven’t bought English muffins in so long because they’ve gotten really expensive—but this made me suddenly crave one!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I love that purse idea! I keep one stuffed inside the other inside the other inside the other inside a grocery bag. Probably not the best way, but it works for now!
Ashley says
I wish I had that many bags! I always just buy a bag and then use it till it gets all raggedy (is that word?). I do have a nice collection of scarves though (and shoes!).
Katie says
I use my purse until it gets raggedy also. Scarves are so fun! I have this storage hanger for the scarves that’s shaped like a butterfly with random holes to put the scarves through. It works beautifully!
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
I am lovin that sandwich idea! I am totally going to try it!
Amanda @thefunkybeagle says
I would totally use that for belts too! I have an abundance of them, and storing them is tricky. I have high shelves in my closet where all of my purses are stored. There was one time when I was in San Francisco for the Nike Women’s Marathon, and my entire neighborhood was evacuated due to fires. I called to make sure that my family took my purses and my dog (priority being on my little pup of course!!). Thankfully, our whole house was safe.
Brittany *Sparkles* says
great idea for purses!! too bad I have ZERO hanging room left in my closet.. grrr… I need a bigger one!
Shanna, Like Banana says
I use these to store my purses — works so well and doesn’t take as much horizontal space: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40210553

Wow I love that purse idea I am totally going to try and replicate that at home too! my purses are all in a giant box at the top of my closet now that is sooo hard to get to and I hate it!
Jamie @ Food in Real Life says
I love they way a 3 mile run can be done in about 30 minutes. It feels like a great accomplishment and it’s over and done so quickly! Man I miss running!
Have a good day Julie!
Heather says
I got home yesterday and thought our place look a mess but as I was cleaning I realized I was only picking up dog toys. haha Turns out it wasn’t the humans making the mess.
Cait @ Cait hates Cake says
I am SO doing that with my purses!!!!
Brianna says
That is an AWFUL way to store purses. No offense to you and just trying to help you out – but if you value your purses storing them by their handles is not a good idea. It will cause the them to stretch out and not last as long…especially the leather ones. My OCD loves the organization of the shower curtain rings but I would be nervous about ruining some of my bags!
peanutbutterfingers says
uh oh! well, my purses aren’t really that valuable, but i’ll take the ones that are pricier off the rings. thanks for the head’s up.
Sweet and Savvy says
That is SUCH a cute idea with the purses!
Tracy @ Tracy's Treats says
Ooh that is a great idea for hanging purses! Mine are all hanging on my closet door right now….I think it might be time for a change!
Annie says
i spy a white coach tote…. that i have in pink!! i recognize the handles (does that make me a creeper?).
great job today! sadie looks hilarious in that photo.
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
I like the idea, but changing shower curtains always annoys me. Maybe I just have annoying rings?! 🙂
Nicole says
That just got me thinking. I have seen some neat clips that might work like that as well. What a great idea!
I love hummus. I just never know what to add it to.
My bags aren’t worth much either so this could work fine. I usually pick up Nine West at Marshall’s or TJ Maxx.

Love the Sadie pic, and what a great way to store purses!
I’ll have to try that brand of english muffins, I always automatically pick up the Thomas’ brand but I love me some doughy bread so I’ll have to try those! 🙂

I love the purse idea! if only I had a free rack somewhere!

First, I love the shower curtain rings. Second, I LOVE the blue room! My room when I lived at my parents house was that color and I loved it! I’m debating painting just my closet that color now because it’s so bright and makes me feel creative too!
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
such a good purse idea!! i’m in love with that vera backpack. ive always wanted one! ;p
Lindsey @ SoundEats says
That looks like Publix hummus – I LOVE that stuff! It makes the best grilled hummus sandwiches…bread with hummus and tomato, outsides spread with a little earth balance or something similar, and grill…if I had Publix hummus in my house everyday, I could have that everyday. 🙂
Love the organization!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
That is SUCH a great idea to store purses! I’m totally copying it. 🙂 Purses are hard to store too because they’re bulky and all different sizes. Right now I have all of my dumped in a big bin just sitting in my closet. Having them hung up the way you did makes it easier to see them all! I love it.
Don’t you love Nature’s Own products? I’ve had their bread, hamburger buns, and english muffins, and they’re all SO doughy and yummy.
Ruthie Hart says
hot dang what a good idea! Mine are in a rubbermaid and I never change them!
Yolie @ Practising Wellness says
I LOVE pinterest! I love it most of the inspirational quotes, but when I get my own place with more space (rather than just having one room) I would love to ogle over all the interior design stiff. Your lunch looks absolutely delicious! 🙂 xyx

That’s such a great way to organize your purses. I have so many and usually just throw them in a box, but that means they’re not readily available. This way you can grab what you want when you want it. Nice!

That is such a great idea! Thanks for sharing, we all need simple fixes like that in our lives!

I definitely had a very similar version of your lunch today! I had a cheese and hummus sandwich on an english muffin with an apple and broccoli on the side! Great minds think alike 🙂
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I wish I had the room in my walk-in closet to do that. I’d use them much more often that way. Right now they’re all stuffed into an under the bed rubbermaid box so I forget about all the ones I have besides the one of using.
